One of her Greatest achievement was Spearheading an 18-month physician education program sharing Cook Children's cancer research. Their team radically changed referral patterns, which impacted survival rates of high-risk pediatric patients.

The idea behind RetireEase came about years ago when Elizabeth helped her grandmother move from a two-story 2,600 Square Foot home in Austin into a retirement community apartment. Thanks to Elizabeth's experience, innate style and gift of organization, she was able to adeptly and compassionately help her grandmother downsize a lifetime of memories, furniture, books and belongings into a comfortable new home. Leihla was born and raised in the DFW area and has an extensive 30 year background in healthcare administration. In September 2000, her mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease which exposed her to a new culture in healthcare and ultimately paved the path for her passion today. As a child of Alzheimer’s, she has dedicated her life to being an advocate for people living with the disease, as well as their caregivers.
In addition to serving as the 2022 Event Chair for the Arlington Walk to End Alzheimer's, Leihla is currently the Community Resource Director for Carver Heights Assisted Living in Arlington. She is an active member of the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement, serves on the Scholarship Committee of the Tarrant County Area Gerontological Society, and is a member of Dementia Friendly America (Dallas & Fort Worth Chapters). She is also a member of Dallas Area Gerontological Society, VFW Post 7843 Auxiliary, a Board Member for Dementia Care Warriors, Pajamas for Seniors and resides on the National Advisory Board of Concorde Career College.

Mitzie has more than 30 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse. Early in her career she worked at hospitals and medical clinics in the Fort Worth and Houston areas, providing newborn and pediatric care. Several years ago, when she was working at Pediatric Specialists of Plano, she redirected her career to care for her mother who was diagnosed with Cognitive Impairment. Over time her mother digressed to Alzheimer’s, and Mitzie cared for her until she passed away at the end of 2020. There are so many different things that could come into the picture as we age, and by interviewing the experts, I help fill the knowledge gap. We don't know what we don't know until we have a need. And even then, we may not know exactly how to get the answers we are looking for.

Join in as I have the pleasure of speaking with David Slider who is a Patient Care Coordinator for TOPS, short for Texas Orthotic Prosthetic Services. He got involved in this industry after having his leg amputated after trying to save it for 2 and 1/2 years. He originally became a technician and he loved the fabrication and hands on. In our first episode for 2022 I get the pleasure of speaking with a power couple. Ingrid and John Sullivan have worked in the real estate industry for more than 30 years. Through their experiences helping their own parents move, they came to realize that there was a great void in the industry and began concentrating their efforts toward helping Boomers and Seniors with downsizing and rightsizing moves. The Sullivan's have invest much time and training in becoming experts in senior real estate. They have been certified Senior Real Estate Specialists (SRES) by the National Association of Realtors and have also achieved the prestigious Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP) designation from the Senior Real Estate Institute. Tips when hiring a estate sale company. Erica and I will discuss what is an estate sale company and what you need to consider when hiring one. This is the second time I get the opportunity to learn and talk with Erica and it was amazingly informative. Erica Williams, the founder of Count It All Joy Estate Sales, worked for a non-profit for several years but became burned out. Motivated by the presence of female entrepreneurs, she made the decision to complete her Master's degree and soon after decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship. After attending an estate sale, Mrs. Williams determined that she too could find success in the estate sales industry. As a result, January 2010, Count It All Joy Estate Sales was born.

Brent was hired by the Arlington Fire Department, at age 18, as a Firefighter/Advanced-Emergency Medical Technician where he’s spent the last 7 years at one of the busiest fire stations in the nation, running over 7,000 calls per year. Most of these calls were medical emergencies such as Cardiac Arrest, Respiratory Arrest, Trauma, Anaphylaxis, Strokes, and Seizures of all ages and demographics. Brent is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a related field to further his career and achieve other goals outside of the Fire Department, including the development of In Good Hands BLS. He has a passion to help others in need, and a strong sense of dedication to teach medical providers and the public the same skill sets he required throughout his career. By using real experience learned from the field, he plans to teach his students the correct way to use their acquired skill sets in real life scenarios, not just the classroom.

In this week's episode, Alma and I talk about the "caregiver daughter" perspective in caring for family members. In 2012, Alma’s mom began her journey with dementia requiring 24/7 care in her home. It has been a long, loving journey for Alma’s family … teaching them to stick together during tough times. Alma and her five siblings dedicated themselves to caring for their mom (physically and financially). And, while the journey wasn’t easy, they were honored to provide her with the love, comfort, peace and dignity she deserved. Alma lost her mom on July 28, 2019.
