The first voice of SIRI…and Susan Bennett had no idea! Not until a friend told her! How that happened is intriguing.
Susan was a favored IVR talent (interactive voice recording) who had recorded many virtual assistant and GPS voices. We talked about how HER voice was selected as the SIRI persona. You’ll hear the “behind the scenes” of what it takes to do these recordings. Who knew she would be doing what’s called CONCANTONATION—that’s fascinating in and of itself!

Susan is a multi-talented woman who began playing piano by ear at age 4. 3 – Fight the fear! We all have it. Sometimes it helps us not do something incredibly stupid or dangerous. More often fear can keep us from moving forward because we’re afraid to fail, or we’re afraid to look stupid. Face those fears and move ahead.
4 - You’re never too old to learn. You could learn early or in your late 60’s and beyond. Stay excited .22:03
5 – Be realistic. If you’re 5’2” you’re probably not going to be a model. There’s a place for all of us. We must know ourselves and find our way. Our pluses and minuses.

Was there ever life on Mars? When will we land a human on the Red Planet? What does it take to send a rover to Mars to explore these possibilities?
Bekah Sosland Siegfriedt is Nasa’s Systems Engineer and Missions Operation Engineer who worked five years to help land and now monitor the well-being of the Mars rover Perseverance—affectionately called Percy.
“Once a rover lands on Mars, she has her own life. There’s energy pulsing through her veins and she needs to be given love. She becomes a family member.”
As Bekah shares about Percy’s well-being—“we try to keep her as safe as possible. Her mission is to search for signs of ancient microbial life and pave the way for human exploration. But sometimes she has a mind of her own.”
Steve Sosland, Bekah’s dad & Vice Chancellor of Culture Development at TTHSC, joined our conversation sharing that early in her childhood, he and his wife Kelly recognized their daughter’s fascination with space. Together they encouraged her to pursue her ambition of becoming an aeronautical engineer. Now look where she is!
Not only is Bekah a successful aeronautical engineer, but she also successfully worked on the movie Goodnight Oppy—Perseverance’s predecessor named Opportunity. Oppy was expected to roam Mars’ dusty plains for 90 days. She obviously was an overachieving rover who kept working for 15 years.

One week before graduating from high school Jaffer Odeh was in a car accident leaving him with Quadriplegia. Determined to become a physician, Jaffer was released from the hospital into a wheelchair and out to class at University of Michigan. “Nothing would stop me,” he said.

4 - You’re never too old to learn. You could learn early or in your late 60’s and

5 – Be realistic. If you’re 5’2” you’re probably not going to be a model. There’s a
place for all of us. We must know ourselves and find our way. Our pluses and minuses.

When a woman tries to crack the male dominated medical industry – it’s never easy. Dr. Kathryn Waldrep and her partner Kim Vernon did what any determined, highly accomplished women would do. They started their own practice, went head to head and never looked back. Now they can boast as being the first female OB/GYN practice in Dallas.
As an aside – when Dr. Waldrep entered the studio as my guest, she had been up all night delivering a baby – one of over 6,000 to date. “I kinda fell into construction.” So says Nikki Morgan, Executive Vice President at
TDIndustries. Looking back 23 years she remembered the interview that landed her first
job at TD as an executive assistant. It didn’t take long for her to be recognized for

Cardiologist Dr. Fahmi Farah comes from a culture where women are not typically encouraged to be leaders. Yet, that’s the story here. Dr. Farah’s strong will to become a doctor began when she witnessed first-hand a lineage of heart disease that prematurely took the lives of many family members.

In summer 2004 Shake Anderson entered the hospital wondering if he would die. A year later he beat the odds and entered rehab. That’s when Shake started making soul music that hit the top charts.

William Arruda never thought of himself as an Entrepreneur. Yet he built a successful personal branding business and has been credited with turning the concept of personal branding into a global industry.
Being the Personal Branding guru that he is today began as he innately paid attention to what was around him. On a particular day nearly 23 years ago, he noticed the front cover of Fast Company magazine. The headline read The Brand Called You: You Can’t Move Up If You Don’t Stand Out. The article urged readers to start thinking of themselves AS A BRAND! It went on to discuss how to identify your personal brand and use it to create greater success by standing out from the crowd.
William was enthralled with the idea of teaching others to harness the power of authentic personal branding. As a marketing executive he had been branding companies. Why not do branding for individuals?
William knew that the world of work was changing. No longer was it the norm to stay with a company for life. Mergers and acquisitions were on the rise, companies were downsizing, people were being riffed. William saw an opportunity to help individuals take charge of their own career by identifying their unique value their authentic personal brand.
Leaving a well-paying job and an expat package that had him living in Paris, he focused on developing the Reach Personal Branding Company and is the co-founder of Career Blast TV. Today he’s an author, senior contributor at Forbes and motivational speaker on one topic— Personal Branding!

Willie Baronet- Stan Richards Professor in Creative Advertising at SMU, Founder WE ARE ALL HOMELESS Project
Artist and Professor Willie Baronet has purchased close to 2,000 homeless signs since 1993. He uses this collection to create exhibits that raise awareness about homelessness.
Willie’s passion for the homeless began over 20 years ago out of his own awkwardness and guilt he felt when ignoring people he encountered on the streets. He began his quest to understand it all. Why were these people homeless? Why did he feel this way? How could he change his feelings and views about homelessness?
In 2014 Willie and three filmmakers drove across the U.S. buying signs and talking to the people behind them. This trek became a Prime Video documentary called Signs of Humanity. The news coverage of the trip resulted in 138M media impressions, was on the front page of Reddit, and an article picked up by the Associated Press was featured in media across the United States.
One of Willie’s most memorable stories is from the streets of Philadelphia where he met Eddie Dunn, who was suffering from addiction, homeless, and disconnected from his children. In 2016, after a year and a half of sobriety, Eddie contacted Willie.

Can you imagine being an adult doing a 360-degree jump wearing Barney the Dinosaur’s 50-pound suit? That’s what Carey Stinson did for 22 years as the beloved Barney the Purple Dinosaur. At 23 years old, Carey was dubious of playing the role that had to include dancing—a talent he didn’t have. Wait ‘til you hear how he learned his craft and won the hearts of children around the globe.
And here’s something you may not know. Barney the Dinosaur started out in Texas. Before gaining national and international fame, Barney began making appearances at birthday parties. Carey was the guy who entertained the children and eventually became the main Dino on stage and screen.
In his long running character role, Stinson toured the world while appearing seven seasons on the TV show Barney and Friends. It was this experience that inspired Carey’s passion for spreading love and inspiration through photography and now a podcast—Purple Roads. The show features guests sharing moving stories from the world of children’s entertainment and pop culture.

Leigh Richardson’s personal experiences with brain injury led her to believe in using neurofeedback as an alternative to medication.
After an alarming event occurred when her twin boys were in second grade, Leigh’s world completely shifted. One of her 2-year-old twin boys was hit by a car resulting in a concussion that seemed to heal without effects…until 5th grade. He started experiencing issues concentrating and remembering things. Crying after school one day he anxiously told his mom, “I think I have ADHD!” His teacher suggested Leigh put him on Ritalin, which was NOT something she took as an answer. Being totally opposed to the suggestion, Leigh found a neurologist that used neurofeedback to help her son. Having suffered herself from two brain injuries she tried the same treatment.
If there is a lesson to be learned from the positive results, it’s getting involved with mental health and whole-brain training. In 2009, Leigh founded her successful counseling practice at The Brain Performance Center.
