Being run out of His hometown, people picking up stones to throw them at Him, disciples leaving en masse, and finally being crucified by the state and your religious leadership. “And I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven having the everlasting gospel to preach……. And saying with a loud voice…..”
Why a loud voice? There are lots of reasons. Receiving eternal life, proclaiming an urgent message, feeling deeply about the things you’re sharing, and being in a space with lots of other voices, all warrant speaking in a “loud voice". God’s people are to give a clear, and yes, a loud cry to a world in need, so that no one has to be left out. In this episode of All Things Evangelism a preacher friend of mine, with a loud voice I might add, spent some time breaking down what it means to speak with a loud voice at the end of time. The Spirit visited us in this discussion and I know you’ll be encouraged as you tune in.
The Bible is filled with examples of people who failed their way to success. Moses, Abraham, David, Peter, etc. This episode will encourage you to move forward in faith in your personal ministry knowing that God will accomplish His purposes through us because we are sincere in our attempts to worship and serve Him. After Jesus was resurrected from the dead He revealed Himself to two of His disciples (Luke 24) who were traveling on the road to Emmaus. He did this by giving them a Bible study. “I believe! But Lord help my unbelief!” This was said 2000 years ago by a man interceding for his son. As we intercede for people, Jesus came to save, we ask the same question because how can we succeed evangelistically if we don’t really believe what we believe? Revelation 12 and 13 combine to teach us what Satan does throughout Christian history leading up to the very end of time. They also teach us exactly how he intends to do it. Although the prophecies predict that he will succeed at brutalising the world and mischaracterising God there are dissenters who stand with God and who have His name in their foreheads. They, like the children of Israel, who transition from the wilderness to the promised land, do not just follow God when it means escaping difficulty, they follow Him wherever He goes.
Jonah refused to share the prophetic message God committed to him and he ended up in a dark and lonely place, the stomach of a sea beast. But God was gracious and as Jonah 3:1 says, "Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you” Jonah obeyed. He preached what God asked him to and an entire city of 120,000 people were converted. His success wasn’t based upon his skill or effort but rather that He preached what God told Him to.
God has committed a prophetic message to us and is asking us to share it with a loud voice. Are we trying to escape to Joppa, the Spanish coastal town? Or are we hearing God and valuing His message and sharing it faithfully? In “Sealing the Deal” former NNSW Conference Evangelist Peter Watts and I discuss the art of helping people make decisions for Christ. There are lots of people who hear God’s voice and who don’t know what to do about it. This is part 2 of my conversation with my Christ following Philosopher friend Jasper St. Bernard. In this episode you get to hear two good friends, one black, one white, who love and respect each other, discussing issues of race and culture and what Scripture has to say about seeing each other as equals. To succeed in Evangelism we must be empowered, led, and taught by the Holy Spirit. At the same time the Holy Spirit is convicting people around us of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Unless we understand the work of conviction and how to partner alongside of The Spirit our Evangelism will not produce many results. In this episode Boris and I consider and discuss several Biblical passages that show what conviction looks like and how we can help people who are under it.
Working with intent and focus is so important to the success of evangelistic outreach. If we love people we should be ready to assist them as they come to life in God. Sowing seeds is a good thing but that’s not all we’re up to.
If we want evangelism to work we have to understand how people are brought into the Kingdom of God. Episode 6 of Why Evangelism doesn’t work”, is about the cycle of evangelism or as I call it the cycle of salvation. Knowing the process people come through in being born again helps us to know how we should structure out outreach ministry efforts.
Jesus commanded that we should love one another as He loved us. And that if we did the world would know we were His disciples. When we allow race, culture, and other differences to get between us, we inhibit the power of God and evangelism doesn’t work.

Mercy and justice. Faith and works. Doctrine and Jesus. We sometimes separate what God does not and unintentionally cause confusion that leads to a loss of power in our witness. This episode explores the need to avoid two extremes. The first is proclaiming a Jesus that is based on fallen human assumptions and not God's word. The second is proclaiming a set of ideas, detached from God as if the faith of Jesus was a trivia game. This podcast is about how we need to not separate and put at odds what God does not but rather “preach the Word” in its fulness, as it is in Jesus.
The Messiah’s mission was to go to war with death and to defeat it on behalf of everyone who’s ever lived. Had Jesus forgotten who God’s Word said He was He would’ve never succeeded in His mission.
