Welcome to Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick! A favorite part of doing this podcast is the chance to sit down with not only long time friends and colleagues, but longtime friends and colleagues who are the best at what they do. And this week, we have a great one. On this week’s episode, Beth and Producer Mike sit down with Kevin Rupnik, an Emmy-nominated Art Director who has been working in theater, television and film for 30 plus years, at the highest levels.

The Interview with Kevin begins at Time Code: 16:12

GUEST BIO: KEVIN RUPNIKWith formal training and experience in theater, opera, television and film, I bring an unusually holistic approach to brand communication and event marketing. As an Art Director I have designed for The Good Wife, Royal Pains, How to Make it in America, The Sound of Music Live and Masters of Sex, for which I was honored to be nominated for an Emmy in 2014.

Things to know about me: I am an experienced leader with a wicked sense of humor and the belief that work should be fun as well as productive. Being curious is the trait I’m the most proud of. I believe in the transformative power of design. I live in New York but love the tropics and the desert. My dad was a tool-and-die maker and my mother was a beautician. I believe that the key to successful working relationships is mutual respect.

I believe in the POWER of events to shape opinion, inform brand communication, and inspire devotion. As a creative director who can write, and a writer with formal training in design and the theater, I see the BIG PICTURE and am able to manage every step of the process from ideation to production.

Welcome to Season 5 of Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick! Beth and Caroline are back for a brand new season of pulling back the curtain on the magic of making television and film, and bringing the tips and tricks of the pros right into your home! This week, the ladies sit down with Noelle Giddings, an immensely talented artist whose tremendous career has taken her from being one of the first female comic book artists to Beth’s go-to artist for creating bespoke, set-specific ‘cleared’ art of the highest quality.

The Interview with Noelle begins at Time Code: 6:36.

GUEST BIO: NOELLE GIDDINGS

Noelle Giddings, creator, painter and illustrator, creates set-specific, original though highly evocative, ‘cleared’ art for television and film. She has enjoyed a long relationship with CBS, creating most of the art needed for standing sets as well as an episode-by-episode basis for shows such as The Good Wife, Braindead, Instinct, Main Justice, and The Good Fight. Other networks include FX and the upcoming Y The Last Man, and the film Danielle Isn’t Real.

Formally trained at The Parsons School of Design (holding an MFA), Noelle combines sophisticated technique and craft with a broad visual literacy and vocabulary. Additionally, Noelle, one of the early (and few) female comic book artists, has over twenty years experience working for Dark Horse, Marvel, and mostly DC Comics (pencils, inks, color, and covers) with hundreds of credits–among them: Batman, Superman, Aquaman, etc. A particularly proud part of her comic book history was helping to start Milestone Media, a lone company dedicated to producing multicultural comics, where as Color Editor she designed and colored the universe known as Dakota.

Noelle is also an accomplished animator having worked on the Nickelodeon series, Doug, as well as the Disney movie, Anna Karenina.

Noelle has taught art at The Cooper Hewitt International Design Museum as well as at The Children’s Museum of the East End.

Noelle’s actively works on projects ranging from Wake Board Design to Wine Labels, and has commissioned artwork in many private collections. She has had paintings shown in the juried art show, Woman Painting Woman (2014 and 2017) at the RJD Gallery in Bridgehamtpon NY, near where she currently, and happily, resides.

Welcome to Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick! Have you ever been watching your favorite TV show and thought, I would love to have that couch or, that bedroom paint color would look perfect in my room? Of course you have, we all have. More and more, our favorite TV shows and movies are influencing our design choices in the real world. This week, Beth and Mike sit down with Cian O’Driscoll, founder of the e-commerce website, Seen on Set, to discuss how TV & movies are influencing our real world décor!

The Interview with Cian begins at Time Code: 6:38.

GUEST BIO: CIAN O’DRISCOLL

Cian grew up with a deep appreciation and love for the immersive world of film. Later this was accompanied by a passion for art and design. Upon graduation with bachelors and masters degrees in Architecture, Cian set up a blog that focused on movie and TV show set design and decoration. This quickly grew into a business where visitors could find and buy the furniture and decor they see on the set of their favourite movie or TV show. The next five years were met with the trials and tribulations faced by many online startups. Raising funding rounds, acquiring talent, maintaining accelerated growth, the list goes on. Although Seen On Set did not turn out the way Cian had hoped, he now looks back at this tough journey with a sense of pride and accomplishment – hoping one day to rekindle his entrepreneurial spirit.Look back at Seen On Set’s work by following their Instagram Account: @seen.on.set

Welcome to Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick! Have you ever wondered how a film or TV show gets permission to shoot inside someone’s home or business? This is location scouting. This week, Beth and Caroline sit down with location manager and long time friend of Beth’s, Monte Farber!

GUEST BIO:

Monte Farber was born in Brooklyn, NY. He studied comparative religion and became interested in astrology in 1974 when he met his future wife and artistic collaborator, Amy Zerner. “Amy was studying astrology and I was studying Amy, so I learned astrology! It became our language of love.”

Farber’s desire to make astrology understood and accessible to a broad audience led him to devise books, book/card sets, and unique kits that also made other esoteric systems accessible, such as the tarot, alchemy, meditation, shamanism, psychic development, and relationships.

Farber is now the world’s foremost creator of interactive personal guidance systems. Monte has over two million copies of his 40 books, divination systems, DVDs and Meditation CDs published around the world in fourteen languages by Sterling, St.Martin’s Press, Simon & Schuster, Penguin Books, Chronicle Books, Harper Collins, Tuttle Publishing, U.S. Games, and other publishers.

He has licensed six of his interactive personal guidance systems to myLifetime.com, LifetimeTV’s popular website. Starting in 2008, Monte made uncannily accurate – more than 80% correct- psychic predictions about world events, the economy and specific stocks every few months on dated-for-verification video clips interviewed by Alix Steele for Jim Cramer’s popular financial website www.TheStreet.com.

Living in the exclusive Hamptons area of Long Island,New York, he has personally counseled many of the celebrities and business elite who know him as “The Best Astrologer in The Hamptons” (Dan’s Papers).
