Sarah Magazzo and Francine Marie are Co-Creators of Pheed Philly. Pheed Philly is a small grassroots movement that aims to improve quality of life for the homeless of Philadelphia one care package at a time. Yes, Pheed Philly provides basics like food, water, and clothing to the homeless population of Philadelphia, but their ultimate goal is so much bigger than that. They want to show up for those less fortunate so that they feel seen and know that they are loved and valued. Human connection is something many of us take for granted, but it’s something thousands of individuals go without every day. With your help, their mission to remove the negative stigmas around homelessness and to provide better resources and avenues for improved quality of life can be achieved

According to a report from the Pew Charitable Trust Organization "Poverty is one of Philadelphia’s most enduring problems. At 25.7 percent, the poverty rate is the highest among the nation’s 10 largest cities. About 400,000 residents—including roughly 37 percent of the city’s children under the age of 18—live below the federal poverty line, which is $19,337 in annual income for an adult living with two children. And nearly half of all poor residents are in deep poverty, defined as 50 percent below the federal poverty line."(https://www.pewtrusts.org/-/media/assets/2017/11/pri_philadelphias_poor.pdf) Episcopal Community Services has made it their mission to try to solve this problem. The We Love Philly Podcast explores Volunteerism that is happening all over the city of Philadelphia. A long with my high school students, we volunteer with different organizations to highlight all of the brotherly love and sisterly affection that is keeping William Penn's dream alive. In honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, this student co-created episode dives deep into what it means to be of service and how the message of Dr. King continues to impact us today. This episodes also gives an outline of what to look forward to on future episodes and how to stay up to date with how we are serving the city of Philadelphia.
