Y'all are in for a treat! In this podcast episode, we have a fun, encouraging conversation with our precious friend Chrissy Vandiver. Philippians 2:14 in The Message: Do everything readily and cheerfully - no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society.
In scripture, the Greek word "χάριτι" "phi-ti" refers to the quality of showing appreciation and returning kindness
Once you realize that God is working in your life, you'll show gratefulness in how you live.
The Bible mentions the word "gratitude" (χάριτι and other variations in Greek) 157 times. It does not appear as frequently as "fear not" (which is said 365 times), but it appears more than "thanks" or "thanksgiving" (mentioned 72 times).
Colossians 3:15-17 NIV: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. One thing everybody has in common is we all want to be seen. Jesus was so good at sitting one on one and asking the right questions to make people feel seen and heard and valued.
We can't lead others until we learn how to follow. If we want to lead others to Jesus, we have to first learn how to follow him.

It's Angela's birthday week and we have a new soundboard! We talk about all the celebratory things on her birthday agenda including Taylor Swift and the swans.
We also talk about serious things including our struggle with identity and confidence and who we are to the Lord. Your circle is supposed to be proud not jealous. Why is it so hard for females to address what needs to be addressed? Confidence and identity have to be taught over and over again from a very young age. If the enemy can keep us looking sideways at each other instead of focusing on his plan for our own lives, of course we will struggle with competition! We get so distracted so easily.
Angela makes a confession about her emotional mentos explosion, her new coping mechanism and what the Lord is teaching her in this season. We need our people, but we need the Lord's wisdom and guidance the most!
Bad leaders try to reframe the situation. Good leaders own up to their mistakes and weaknesses.
Soil is truly an antidepressant. The smell of mycobacterium vacii, a microorganism found in soil, compost and leaf mold, lights up neurotransmitters that release serotonin (a mood-lifting hormone).
We also talk about what we are learning in Fellowship University on "rejoicing in suffering" and not rushing the process. Don't be quick to escape the faith-testing valleys that produce the fertile soil we need to grow. One of the best things we can say to someone who is suffering is simply "I am so sorry."
We can't explain it away but we can be with our people in their pain and remember three simple takeaways: This life is temporary. There is accomplishing power in every trial. God is always with us.

This week, we take a deep dive into things we wish we had known at a much younger age, including the importance of being humble and teachable plus the importance of making time for rest and play. The two commandments the Lord repeats most often are warnings about idols & rest. Idolatry is seeking security or meaning in something other than God. Don't get too impressed with yourself!

Everyone can teach you something. We all need someone ahead of us, behind us, and beside us.
We have to let God lead and remember we are not in charge or in control. When we ask for daily bread, we are trading control for His trust and his peace.

We have to learn what it means to take a sabbath and it has to be nonnegotiable.

God gave us all different gifts within the body of Christ, and this episode is such a fun illustration of that. We have to say "Lord, here is fertile soil. Do with it as you please." And along the way, the Lord grew us in other areas where we didn't expect.
"Don't get caught up in comparison. Seek out the people who are doing it well and don't be afraid to ask or to pull people in that you trust to push you and also rein you back in. Don't be afraid of asking people to challenge you and have confidence in you when you don't have confidence in yourself."
"Call out what you see in the people around you. It may be the exact encouragement they need in that moment."
"The Lord puts those desires in your heart. I could tell we were so in his will. Looking back we can see his purpose. We had to be obedient to what he was calling us to at that time and not be afraid of the process. For us, it has been a ten year intense journey with the Lord as he grows and cultivates our gifts."
"I found myself in a season of being restless while also idle. The Lord just kept stirring in me this feeling of "you can still do more." That is how Robyn's Nest was born. It's a new season!"
"I just went at my own pace and kept pushing forward. The Lord is in the details. He cares about every single detail of our lives."

Did you know eating disorders have become the second deadliest mental illness? 95% of women struggle with body image yet it's the least talked about thing in the church. Mallory explains "intuitive eating," becoming "food neutral," and what to look for if you suspect a friend may have an eating disorder. This is such an insightful and necessary conversation. As we start to allow the gospel to transform our lives, we look like the biblical narrative. The gospel is the story of us - because of what Christ is doing in us as we surrender our lives.
We have to know who we are so we can live sent. Our point of origin is in heavenly places. We have to know who we are in Christ. That is our starting point.
I have to give full authority to Christ. He owns my life. What am I doing with my daily life?
4 questions to ask in our struggles:
How do we reach the lost? We encourage the disciples.
How are we mining our own hearts and the hearts of others with truth?
Righteousness is having a heart that looks like his. He asks questions to get to the root of the problems we are having. What is the root of my stress?
Good questions to ask other believers:
Where are you stuck? We can't make ourselves the central character in our stories. That is Christ's role. Do I want to be a healed from whatever is keeping me stuck? Do I want to be well or do I want to keep telling the same tired story?
Discipleship is not a gift we give to God, but one that God gives to us!

We heard from so many of y'all after last week's episode, so here is the logical follow up!
What is the definition of healthy? "someone not displaying clinical signs of disease or infection"
Am I healthy or broken? Is my cup full so that I can share from the overflow? Self-care is essential. Am I being kind to myself?
Indicators of being healthy:
"I keep wanting to ask the same elementary question in leadership abuse crises as one who is so flawed and has made countless mistakes. Do leaders quit having daily time alone with God? i'm just asking because he gets in your business. i'm just wondering how this goes unchecked." Beth Moore
"We want scripture to dwell in us. We want to abide in the Lord." Fran
"If you want to accelerate your prayer life, pray scripture back to God. Surely he loves it when we remind him of his promises, believing they are true." Angela
Fran teaches us how to turn scripture into prayer
Angela talks about the saying "don't birth an Ishmael." We have a choice. We can trust God's timing or we can start manipulating outcomes. We have to be comfortable waiting. That pause can be so healthy as we wait on the Lord.
In the darkness -because of the darkness - life is coming. Think about farming seasons and what takes place underground. The Lord is at work using it all for something good. There is health in whatever is broken. Trust God in it.
Colossians reminds us "He holds it all together"
It's easy to get consumed by all the darkness but let's become as healthy as we possibly can.
You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. And all means ALL!
"So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life -your sleeping, eating, going-to-work and walking-around life-and offer it to God as an offering." Romans 12:1 MSG
Healthy lives are lived as an offering to the Lord. That is humility.

What do we do when things are broken and we aren't sure how to respond?
Sometimes showing up is the hard thing. Even if you “failed” in the hard thing, you showed up for it. Hard things don’t equal immediate success. Brokenness doesn’t just become healed over night. The daily grind of showing up, acknowledging the broken, and THEN choosing health and healing is an awful lot to do.
So what do you do when you don't know how to fix it? We talk about all of this and so much more!

We loved our sweet time encouraging the ladies at Zion Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN for their Kollao event.
On this episode, we recap our favorite takeaways from Ephesians 4 which challenges us to put on a new humanity and become mature and wake up and do what Jesus did! We talk about how to do this and why it matters. We sure don't want a shallow faith!
Unity is not the same as uniformity. Run YOUR race. Remember who you are in Christ! He gave you unique gifts and talents to use them! And don't get caught up in comparison. Someone else shining brightly doesn't dull your sparkle! There is only one you and our world needs you!
It's time to grow up! The old way has to go. We have to daily renew our minds and get in our bibles. Make confession a habit. Sanctification is a lifelong process that requires effort and discipline. The effort is worth it! There is power in confessing our sins to one another.
We are new creations in Christ. What does that practically look like in our words, our temperament, our relationships, and our behavior? Say what helps! Kind words - no corrupting talk just building up!
We end with the beautiful reminders from Ephesians 6 - resist the devil and armor up! We need each other because if the devil can isolate us, he can influence us.

We have to mention Voxer. This crazy app has given us so much opportunity for growth in our friendship and our walk with the Lord. It's perfect for those of us who are busy wrangling jobs, family and all the other responsibilities.

Have that spontaneous fun with your family! It's ok to not be predictable and most definitely get out of your comfort zone!
Any bible reading plan. Pick one that works for you. Angela is working through a one year bible reading plan called the Bible Recap. Fran started that one but learned that plan isn't for her and is currently reading through Philippians at her own pace.
Ministry opportunities are all around! Don't get frustrated when an interruption by another person occurs during the day. Love them well by giving them the time they need.
Finally, hugs. Angela likes hugs and misses hugs since the pandemic began all those months ago. She is thankful for any hug she can get. Fran? Notsomuch. She is a words of affirmation girl. She'll grab those any chance she can get.
Remember, the little things are the big things. Take time to thank God for them.
If you are feeling selfish or been living selfishly in any way, give. Give of your time, your possessions, your money, your gifts and talents. Give above and beyond.

Hannah is 22 years old. She was a student athlete in college, served on SGA, tutored 2nd grade children, worked in the admissions office at Union University and one of the dearest, wisest souls I know.
Hannah has graduated college with an Economics degree and works for the National Immigration Forum advocating for the vulnerable.

Before we dive into the episode, we talk about Angela's fabulous top from Cabi. Isn't it just too cute? But aren't she and Lydia even cuter??
This is the 1st of 4 episodes in the series titled, "The Future Looks Bright." Today you will hear from our darling, brave friend Lydia who found herself pregnant at the age of 16. It was not the route she wanted to take at first, but ultimately Lydia chose life for her baby. Before she chose life Lydia was convinced she would be having an abortion.
After talking with her friend, Kaylee, and Kaylee's mom (our very own Angela), Lydia knew that "my baby can have a future and so can I."
Lydia was under the wonderful care of our local pregnancy center, Birth Choice while she was pregnant.
Young Lives
Ashley is a follower of Christ, wife to Eric, and mom to many. She also works alongside her husband who is a licensed counselor.

"Be kind to yourself" during hard seasons when you are doing hard work is something Ashely teaches both of us any time we are with her.
As we look at the pain in our lives, Ashley encourages us to read our story from the beginning. We were made for perfect love. That is God's original design. Do not be afraid to read the hard parts of your story.
Forgiveness--Jesus forgave from the depth of His pain and so can we! Restoration is on the other side of this pain!
We must learn to see things through the lens of the cross.
When you are in conversation with someone who is hurting, instead of asking "How are you?" let us reframe the question with "What do you need?"
Proverbs 16:24 says, "Gracious words are like a honeycomb sweetness to the soul and health to the body."
The definition of authentic is: sincere, no pretense, true to one's self and true to the one who I identify with.

We want to all be available to the Lord and one another right? 2020 is calling us to Christ and one another.
Kristie encourages us all to do just that in today's episode. We must surrender to Him, die to self day after day. Matthew 16:24 encourages us to deny ourselves and follow Jesus. We want to walk in your ways, Lord.

Be available to what the Lord has called you to today.
To listen to what someone has to say is one of the most loving things we can do.
We must fight for a spirit of gratitude!
Set alarms in your phone to remind you to be intentional: mid-morning alarm, remember to walk in the Spirit. In the afternoon, text someone and encourage them. An evening alarm can remind you to pray for your people.
Verbally check-in with all your people, family and friends, often and ask them how they are doing. "Fine" is not a good answer.
When you are anxious, what are you running toward?
Fight for the appropriate voices that will feed your soul and not add anxiety to your life. Proverbs 16:24
Galatians 5:16 says "So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."
