Life is a Who-Done-It Mystery Over and Over Again Every circumstance is an opportunity to attend to the clues available always and everywhere. These clues have been placed there for your own discovery - so that you may stumble upon them and experience revelations and truths.
Where you initially may ignore them or deny their existence, inevitably you will begin to slow down and take stock of all the elements of the situation. Like Sherlock Holmes, as you train yourself to see and let go of what you are afraid to lose, intuitively you become more conscious of sensations that are caused by triggering thoughts. You can sleuth your way back to the source of the calamity and realize that you are the one!

Is My Life Experience the Chicken or the Egg? Over my lifetime, did my beliefs and perceptions cause my experience - which reinforced my beliefs, or did the experiences create my beliefs?
We have to cultivate greater degrees of awareness of the source of our thoughts and the source of our experiences.
Only through the practice of mindfully discovering and revealing the beliefs that are the catalyst for our experiences can we elevate ourselves, our vibrations, and the optimum realization of our potential.

Cultivating Awareness of How We Create Limits to Our Full Potential More and more often, I am aware of the times when I trigger anxiousness and worry. Do you see how I owned that I triggered it? I then become aware of the thought that is habitual, which is founded on the belief that something is wrong and needs to be fixed - and that that something that is wrong is caused by me - and I need to try and control what I broke or what I caused to break or be wrong.
In the middle of the night, when I have a triggering thought after hours of peaceful sleep, I have trained myself to be able to be aware of what just transpired, of what took me from peaceful presence to anxiousness, as well as to be more responsive to it in the moment. What happens is that I have a thought, and I follow that thought into my worst fears - more thoughts!
Because I’ve been training myself over and over again to be mindful and aware of what thoughts cause restless, irritable discontent, I’m able now to stop that trajectory of thought. I’m able to pivot, or to switch my thinking pattern to that which I now know to be my highest truth and knowing - that nowhere in my list of spiritual principles is there any mention of the value of anxiousness, worry, or fear. They don’t live within my spiritual truth. At this point of awareness, I can choose to remove myself from that old line of thinking, "disappearing" the anxiousness all together.
A few months ago I began a new hobby of keeping fish. As any new fish keeper will tell you, fish get stressed easily and can die. Sure enough, I experienced this, losing all of my tiny blue shrimp and a couple of my fish. I was in anguish and despair. I felt totally responsible for their demise, and totally helpless to do anything about it.
I continually study good fish keeping practices and have become somewhat more confident. And, yet, my fish are developing issues that, although normal for the hobby, still cause the fish and me a lot of stress.
But I’m no longer triggering myself into anguish and despair. Though I’m concerned and am being responsible as best I can, I now choose to take a different perspective of myself and this hobby.
I realized that I need to respond with confidence, respecting that I am being responsible and doing the best I can. I can drive myself crazy if I continue to pummel myself with thoughts of "pathetic, inept loser." Instead, I'm learning to see myself and my fish differently, so I can derive more joy from the experience.
This is also true with my dog Gracie, who is going through a few days of digestion problems. I can be responsible and calm without worry and guilt. I'm trusting that I'm doing the best I can with all the resources available to me.
These are practices that train me to continually come back to the spiritual principles that can guide me towards freedom and liberation from that mindset of limitations that was the only reality for most of my life. Hallelujah!

When Will I Arrive? Lao Tzu, the great Chinese philosopher said, "The Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
What I want you to know is, with each step, there is an arrival.
With each step you are somewhere you've never been before.
With each step you have the opportunity to experience life anew.
Something is different within you, that you can come to notice and recognize the you that has just arrived.
Over and over again, you will arrive!

What's Really Happening When Nothing Seems to Be Happening What else can be happening when nothing seems to be happening? Perhaps we are expanding our capacity for patience, tolerance, and our ability to surrender control and righteousness. Perhaps we are learning to be with "what is" with Patience - no waiting, just being. Perhaps we are building reliance. Perhaps we are discovering what it is like to live outside the paradigm of control, right and wrong, productivity and stress. Perhaps we've arrived at a level where nothing matters, and what if it did?

Dis-Identifying with My Past is Hard Work! I’m not what I do. I’m not what I accomplish. I’m not the outcome that results from my actions. I’m none of it!

Well, Sort Of: 101 Discoveries and Revelations Stumbled Upon While on the Sacred Path to Who Knows Where, truthfully, I am at a loss.

Looking to the Evidence of the Past - NOT!!! Looking at the evidence of my past history reinforces me to not trust anything -- not my intuition, not God, and certainly not people. At almost every crossroads I’ve come to, I’ve been required to choose to either follow the belief of my past (aka, not to trust), or to voluntarily suspend my beliefs in the past and experiment with Faith-Leaping.
Let me tell you, Faith-Leaping is getting to be so much more fun. Try it!! You'll like it!!

Revealing Yourself One Layer at a Time Throughout this spiritual immersion process, it often feels as though you are covering the same ground over and over again. It can feel as if you aren't make progress whatsoever! Yet if you were to really acknowledge how you have changed over the course of this lifetime, in relation to any particular situation, you will view yourself in a way that allows you to see how you have changed, and how you have grown wiser, more mature.
Taking the time to truly acknowledge the ways in which you've changed and matured will reward you with a strong sense of confidence, self-trust, and self-respect. These are valuable gifts that you can give to yourself with this simple practice.

The God Forsaken Crucible Called Grief The previous podcasts revealed those moments where we not only begin to question reality, but we also begin to choose to choose something other than pain and suffering.
With these choices, what inevitably arises is deep grief for the losses incurred. We begin to let go of what we were truly afraid to lose all along.
However, with courage and self-empowerment, we can learn to comfort and support ourselves through this deep grief release. And, it is also the time that we are ready to choose to receive support from recovery fellowships, spiritual groups, coaches or therapists. The journey, in earnest, has begun!

Now is the Time to Choose Something Other than Pain and Suffering - or Not! In the previous podcast I spoke about the moment when you begin to question reality. Death by Meditation I mentioned in previous podcasts that I’ve been meditating using Joe Dispenza’s 55-minute long guided meditation. And you know what I've discovered? There is a part of me that fears death through meditation. I remember that I experienced this fear of death through meditation with Gangaji too.
Anticipating the annihilation of self is part of the process of any spiritual path. It’s when you know that the suffering you’ve engaged in all along was manufactured through your own belief system. And, you realize that even though it may feel like a death, it really isn’t. It’s just growing one’s capacity to live in the truth of the sovereignty on one’s true essential nature.
I’m no longer attached the the stories I’ve believed to be the truth of me. So surrendering those stories sometimes feels like a death. Taking on or creating a new belief system feels insane. However, the more I do this practice, the more emancipated I feel. I experience greater strength, courage, and excitement. The fear and anxiousness have transmuted into excitement - mostly!
I also experience a willingness to step into the unknown, anticipating good things rather than bad things. I begin to experience a quickening - a gestation - like a fetus developing in the womb. I become more mindful of self-defeating thoughts and beliefs that previously seemed normal. Now they seem dumb!!! Why would I want to continue to oppress myself the way I have when this causes me suffering and angst? Why not instead go for the extraordinary?!

Expecting Failure Shifting the patterns of how we perceive ourselves is probably the most challenging practice there is. I anticipate problems. I anticipate failure. I anticipate things going wrong. So I procrastinate doing things I’ve never done before! Even the simplest things, like gluing a plant to a rock in my aquarium. I watch YouTube videos, and following the how-to’s could be easier. However I’m sure, in my mind, that I’ll blow it!
I’ve come far enough on my path to be conscious of these patterns and to train myself to ask the question: Do you really want to continue this way when you know you have a choice?
Coming to greater degrees of the awareness that I have choice and then to exercise choice takes courage and strength. It brings to me certain underlying truths that I’ve been living with and that keep me stuck in where I’m at, such as:
It’s better to do things wrong or half-assed and anticipate failure than to do things correctly and still anticipate failure! Humiliation for never being able to get it right - even when it’s right!
Where ever you are on your path, you will inevitably be required to do the heavy lifting of changing your beliefs -- especially those beliefs that you think are just 'who you are!'

What Causes Dis-ease? I was often told as a child that I was beautiful. It made me uncomfortable. With eight brothers and sisters who were also vying for the limited attention available from our parents, I felt bad, embarrassed and shame for being in the limelight in this way. Physical beauty was very important to my father, so winning the prize for this particular quality created some degree of separation between me and my siblings.
Ironically, I have been plagued with skin cancer for most of my adult life, especially on my face. Sure, I spent a lot of time in the sun - especially sailing for six years professionally. But what’s interesting is that none of my siblings have skin cancer the way I do. Why is that?
In my studies regarding dis-ease and the causes of disease, science and research confirm that is it our thoughts and our beliefs that are the source of our cancers, and every other major disease. Only 1% is considered genetic! Though we may carry the genetics of certain diseases, what triggers the actual disease is most often our thoughts and beliefs. Incredible, right?!
If you're skeptical, check out The Biology of Belief, by Bruce Lipton, and You are the Placebo, by Joe Dispenza.
Recently, during the meditation from Joe Dispenza's book, I’ve been more observant of the beliefs that no longer work for me. Most of them are so unconscious that I don’t even know that they are there, or in what ways they are operating. But when asked in the meditation, "what beliefs do you want to let go of," I’ve become more and more clear: I am not safe; I’m a victim to my life and the world; I can't be successful; I am alone.
Through this process of taking inventory of these negative beliefs, the belief that “I need to punish myself for the attention I’m getting,” surfaced. It made perfect sense that in essence, disfiguring myself as a punishment for my physical beauty would fix the injustice that I caused in the family.
The second question asked in this meditation is, "What new belief would you like to make true for yourself?" Answering this question is very challenging for me, especially to put it in positive wording. It’s not that I want or need to forgive myself for the fact that I happen to have had a certain amount of physical beauty. It’s that I want to totally and completely accept myself, no matter what!
This includes beauty, intelligence, creativity, and whatever other positive qualities I possess, as well as all the faults I’ve been shameful of. So eliminating the shame for being me allows space to enjoy all of me! That’s what I want!! To celebrate, embrace, and enjoy all of me! I like that!
I believe the skin cancer I’ve lived with is sourced within numerous beliefs that I’ve carried within me. And, I believe I contribute to the healing of my dis-ease by incrementally shifting each negative belief that surfaces into a positive and loving one.
I’m empowered by the very practice of unburdening my body, mind, and spirit of such negativity. And, I truly believe that I’m alleviating the need to suffer for any reason, whatsoever. It’s a very powerful practice!
I want this for you too! To empower yourself to unburden your body, mind, and spirit of all negativity, and to replace it with the belief - the knowing - of your perfection, in all ways!

Self-Doubt - a Weakness or a Strength? Uncertainty of who we are when life changes is normal. None of us - NONE OF US - know how to be in circumstances we’ve never encountered before. In these moments we question our capacities, our strengths, our weaknesses, our level of courage and conviction. We’ve been trained to capitulate into, “I can’t do this!!!” and this is the entry point to self-doubt.
Our spiritual evolution requires us to meet every challenge questioning our resolve to live in the fullest expression of our essential nature. Yes, self-doubt is part of this process. And, so is stretching ourselves towards our expansion point. If not, we will continually melt, dissolve, whither into hopeless, powerless despair. That's okay too! For that has it's own form of healing journey.

Give Credit Where Credit is Due - YOU! Giving Credit to Something or Someone other than You actually minimizes your input into your own healing and wholeness.
In essence you are the one choosing what you choose. You are the one following through with your commitments. You are the one staying in your body, meeting each challenge with enough strength and courage that inevitably you experience an uplifting of your spirits, your emotions, your body, and clarity of mind. You are the one responsible for enduring what arises and stewarding yourself through to who knows where. It's all You!
How have you participated in your own healing from natural disasters, uncertainty or physical illness? Whether it’s cancer or any other dis-ease, you play the leading role.
How much credit do you give yourself? In what ways do you acknowledge yourself for where you have brought yourself? Take a moment to do just that!

Discomforts of Cultivating Wholeness There’s a lot of discomfort in this spiritual immersion process-we are purging the cellular memory from trillions of cells. Energetically & emotionally we are detoxing the dense old belief systems we’ve been immersed in for lifetimes. And, it isn’t uncommon for aches, pains, and questionable “symptoms” to arise that cause us to fear for our health and our lives.
Of course, if you feel compelled to visit your healthcare practitioner, absolutely do that! And, I also invite you to begin to know yourself as the source of all healing of yourself.
A book I highly recommend is Radical Remission, by Kelly Turner. I found enormous amount of support through this book. It strengthened my capacity to stand in my strength, reach for support when most needed, and continually remember what I know to be true.

Unexpected Gifts of Spiritual Immersion My convictions for maintaining a deep relationship with my spiritual Self continually rewards me in so many unexpected gifts. Not only is my daily life filled with an increasing sprinkle of profound realizations about myself and the Divine unity of all Creation, but I also experience greater degrees of acceptance, compassion, and love for myself and all other beings on the planet.
These were totally unexpected-even though I’ve read about such things! But to directly experience them has opened my heart in capacities I didn’t know existed.
The more I stop the incessant nattering of my brain as it goes on and on with negative assessments and judgments of myself and others, the more I’m able to experience the beauty and the gifts present within myself AND every other being on the planet.
It’s a very simple concept to say yes to. However training myself to let go of my fears and my need to try and control everything, is another matter all together. It’s absolutely worth the commitment.

How Do I Make Sense Out of What Doesn't Make Sense? Did you know that when you get to the point where you ask the question, “What’s the Point?” you are on the verge of a major learning curve. Wa-Hooo!
This is the moment when nothing makes sense, so you begin to question Everything! Here's the thing: you have to be willing to ask, “Am I willing to look at things differently?”
Every aspect of our life experience is an opportunity to look at it from the vantage point of fear and lack, or, as an opportunity to see it as a gift.
When we declare: “This isn’t working for me,” this a great moment, because, in this moment, we begin to empower ourselves to know our own truth. We stop deferring our truth to others. This is a new beginning.

Celebrate Your Giftedness - Or Not! Too often in my childhood I heard the expression, "Don't be a smarty pants." or, "You are too big for your britches!" Both statements meant to keep me from thinking or believing that I'm smart, creative, and an extraordinary person - as we all are.
Through this spiritual immersion process, each of us has to choose to believe that we are each gifted and extraordinary, or not. I'm all for the idea that each of us is gifted. So I choose to celebrate, support, and empower each individual to embrace their 'wicked' greatness!

You Just May Not Be Ready Quite often people beat themselves up because they believe they should be further along the spiritual path than they actually are. They should have a better life. They shouldn't be struggling with their addictions. They shouldn't be making the same mistakes over and over again.
We believe there is a set time when we should have all the spiritual learning in place. Truth is, it doesn't happen magically that we experience enlightenment first hand. It takes practice, training, discipline and dedication. That takes commitment! And most of us aren't yet ready for the level of commitment required to experience steady progress and the rewards that come with that.

What to Do After You've Done Big Work? You’ve done some big work that has taken you into a deep process. Now, you are at a point where you are ready for what's next, but you don’t know what to do. The truth is, there is nothing to do, until you are told what to do.
An analogy would be that of digging a well - 3 ft, 10 ft, 20ft. You know the water is there because the ground is moist. You call it a day and rest, because you’ve done a lot of work.
The next day, you notice that there is a bit of water where there was only moist dirt. There is a tendency to want to dig deeper, or put in a pump - to do something more. This process is more about patience and witnessing what’s surfacing. What’s arising.
Every day that passes, your well will fill itself up - you don’t have to pour water in. You don’t have to dig deeper, you just have to notice what arises.

Ineptitude in the Face of WTF! No person is without experiences of ineptitude and powerlessness when faced with circumstances that are out of their control. Nobody! Facing the consequences of their actions - even when they only intended good things to happen, can bring about a shattering of being in control.
Forty plus years ago I made a choice that I knew was in the best interest of everyone involved in that particular circumstance. The outcome was devastating in so many ways. I had no idea that the unfolding of a decision made out of love could bring about hurt in so many people. And, forty plus years later, I too am experiencing what I hadn't been able to face then. You just never know how life is going to unfold - no matter what!
Although there seems to be so many negative consequences that came with my decision back then, there are also positive ramifications of that choice that will longingly unfold in the future.
A spiritual principle that isn't highly appreciated is the one that says every thing brings about love eventually. At times, it's really hard for me to practice living into this principle.
However, my attempts to ignore it just creates more opportunities to get that specific lesson. That too is a spiritual principle!

Gender, Race, Color, Religion Exists Within Spirit Social justice issues stir the residue of hate that we’ve experienced within our lives, our ancestors' lives, and within the collective unconscious.
That hate within each of us is sourced in fear. We hear that all the time. However, that fear may not be conscious, but it is there. That hate is sourced in vengeance for actions done against us or others to whom we have loyalties. That hate is sourced in righteousness - an eye for an eye. That hate is sourced in ignorance.
Here's a spiritual practice to take on: The social justice movement begins with me.
I have to take responsibility for all the ways I’ve ever hated, and, in truth, I’ve hated a lot of people over nearly 70 years. That is a lot of hate! I have to take responsibility for all the ways I’ve been unforgiving. For all the ways I’ve righteously judged and condemned another, convinced they were less than, or not enough. And, I have to take responsibility for the hate I feel towards myself, for my differences, for my lacks, for my failures.
This source of my hate lives within my powerlessness and experiences when I had no control over my life or reality. I hated that I was treated with disdain and ignorance. And, I learned to treat myself with disdain and ignorance. The cycle of hate goes 'round and 'round.
Here's another spiritual practice to take on: The source of love exists within me too.
As I take responsibility for my hate, something happens within me that shifts me to experience more compassion, more forgiveness, more acceptance of differences. Love becomes accessible.
When we march and protest, we are saying things have to change. We want people, politics, education, government, to change. By sitting with ourselves in the stillness of our room, we begin to take accountability for all the ways we hate - all the ways we put hate into the world, all the ways we experience within ourselves the hate we live with. All the ways we express negativity are generated by hate. We have to take inventory of all the ways we personally express negativity within our lives.
Each of us has experienced a personal annihilation of the innocent being within by the thoughts, words, and actions of others. That annihilation fuels either oppression, or hate, or both. When left unacknowledged, it generates more of the same.
Most of us are in denial of our own oppression, our own anger, our own despair at having been treated with ignorance, neglect, or contempt. We are also in denial of the degree to which we carry the wounds, the trauma, and the contempt of our ancestors. Each of us are required to come out of denial and own our own expression of hate, unforgiveness, as well as powerlessness.
Sooner or later, we will make the choice to go within and be with all that we wish to ignore.
Social Justice begins with me.

Always Looking for Validation or Vindication?
The pattern of proving ourselves as valid, worthy and deserving only works for so far. At some point we have to take a look at what that's about.
At some point we have to be with the fact that you will never prove your worth or value in the way that will once and for all answer the question, "Am I worthy?"
The point will come when you have to decide for yourself - to yourself - that you are done with that question! This is some of the most challenging conversations you will ever have with yourself. Trust me!

Out of Sight, Out of Mind
On the tails of the previous podcast, "Skirting the Perimeters of Spiritual Work," comes the conversation regarding the conflict between what we say we want from our spiritual practice and the underlying commitment or conflicting commitment that doesn't want to change anything!
This part quite often sabotages our commitment with things like forgetfulness, avoidance, and allowing a lot of distractions to arise that keep us from acting in alignment with what we say we are committed to.

Skirting the Perimeters of Spiritual Work
A lot of people I know who have spiritual practices share their frustrations with me that they aren't getting much out of their practice. In fact, especially now through the pandemic, they feel more anxious, uncertain, and alone than they ever imagined. They ask, "Shouldn't my spiritual practice help alleviate some of the panic and stress?"

Living Into One's Life Purpose
In the book The Alchemist, there is a great deal of focus on living into one's personal legend. Fact is, few are courageous enough to actually live into the adventure designed by us, for us to realize.
It is easier to settle for "good enough" than to stretch one's comfort zone to include the fullest expression of one's essential nature. But that's exactly what we came here to do!

Multidimensional Me, Multigenerational Me - Lots of Me's!!!
We are so much more than one person within one body. That may sound strange, however, not only are we here to integrate many lives of many lifetimes, but also to heal the traumas of our families and ancestors.
How we do that is just by taking it all in, incrementally. It requires that we feel into all the experiences that are occurring within us, realizing that all the suffering and heartache will come to an end soon, even for those who died generations ago. When we do our own healing work, we heal all of those who have gone before us. And we can heal all of those who come after that. Fascinating, right?

Integrating Spirituality Into My Everyday Reality
The easiest way I have found to integrate spirituality into my everyday life is to recognize when I'm unsure how to make a decision.
Most choices are between what scares me or what excites me. One is a choice I make from fear, from lack, and not-enoughness, and the other choice I make is from joy, abundance, and generosity.
One is a choice made by principles created by others, and one is a choice made from my very own highest principles.

FUN? Nope! OVERWHELMING? Yes!! Most of us thoroughly love when learning is easy - it's fun, right? But when the lessons really push us to our limits and capacity to stay in the process, it can be overwhelming to the max! Does that mean that something is wrong, that you aren't doing it right, or that maybe you're just insane? NO!!!
This spiritual immersion process includes all the above!

When we are extracting patterns and habits that no longer work for us or are in alignment with our highest truths and knowing, it can feel yucky, emotional, and physically uncomfortable or painful. This is normal and natural, really!
As you make progress letting go of what no longer works, you come to realize that life is somehow more gentle and generous for you like never before. This is when the fun begins & when you actually experience what all spiritual principles point to - that there is no need to suffer!

Accepting the Moment as All There Is Every spiritual teacher will tell you that this moment is all there is. Training yourself to live in this moment, however, requires a certain level of commitment to something that will encourage you to practice being in the present moment.
Every hobby, every sport, every musical instrument, everything - if you want to get good at it, requires the individual to stay in the moment. If you watch extreme athletes you will see that not even for a split second can they allow their focus to get distracted. We aren't at that extreme level, however, I think it's a great example to look at if we want to understand and begin to practice being present to the present moment.

The Both/And Every human being is dynamic and multidimensional. Like a computer, we often have various programs running at the same time. But we usually only track one program at a time, disregarding the "noise" or interruptions that are occurring simultaneously.
In any spiritual practice, especially when you are immersing yourselves into your own relationship with your spirit-self, it's a valuable practice to notice what is occurring that you are conscious of, as well as what's occurring that you may not currently be conscious of.
What's more, it's also important to allow both to exist without negating one or the other. Both/And allows us to say something like, "I'm glad my children are having fun playing outside, and I'm not looking forward to cleaning their clothes afterwards." Or, "I love making as much money as I do at my job, and I don't like all of the stress and frustrations I have to deal with."

How to Stir Up Discomfort While Getting Healthy Bringing yourself into alignment with your highest truth and highest knowing seems like it would only bring good things to light, right? Well, quite often bringing yourself into alignment can also stir up residue and residuals of unfinished emotional business.
Sometimes when you've done the very best you can do, you can feel down right horrible. It's because you've kicked up something lying dormant within. Though it may feel uncomfortable for a bit, this is a very good thing. Because as we stir up this residue we are healing what needed healing within us.
The courage we are demonstrating now was not available to us earlier in our lives, perhaps when we needed it most. So perhaps sadness, aloneness, hopelessness and powerlessness arises. Knowing that this is from the past liberates us from getting stuck in wishing it would all go away.
It is going to go away, only because of your courage to align yourself to yourself like you've never been able to do before.

Making Amends - Truly Owning Choices Made That Hurt Oneself of Others Part of every 12-Step program is the process by which one not only admits that they've harmed people and become willing to make amends, but that they actually make amends to those people whereever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
This is such an important practice not only in the recovery field but also in the spiritual field. To own our mistakes and how they've harmed others becomes a strength that grows integrity and accountability. It grows humility and vulnerability - in a good way.
To make amends directly to the individual who was harmed by your actions wherever possible, except when to do so would injure yourself or others, brings a greater sense of harmony and serenity to your human spirit. It heals both individuals in ways we don't quite understand but come to accept as part of the practice.

Discerning Where the Dissonance Lives Did you know? We are multidimensional and multilayered beings. Beings made up of energy that is translated into what appears to be physical matter - emotions - e-motions, mental thoughts - energy, or just energy itself. And each has it's own level of expression. So as we step into this self-discovery process, we become more aware of all the different ways energy expresses itself through us.
Discerning how the energy is expressing itself, where it resides, and that it has been triggered into expression, can all be challenging to be with. And, it is all natural and normal within a spiritual immersion process.
It is helpful to have support from a coach, spiritual guide or therapist, especially when you are unsure how to be with any one part of this process. I'm Ready and Open to Receive - Where the HELL is IT? The highest vibrational results are always forthcoming. If they aren’t forthcoming I’ve got more work to do.
The declaration of being open and ready to receiving is truly a high achievement. It requires letting go what what you are afraid to lose. It requires that you are standing at the threshold of your existence about to spread your wings for the very first time. It requires that you be open to all that comes your way, no matter what.
It feels vulnerable, raw, while realizing all that you’ve gone through to prepare yourself for this opening and receiving. You feel ready!
At the same time, what arises may be resistance, or events that appear to limit what you are open to receiving. In this moment, you might collapse into disappointment, grief or anger because what you wanted isn’t forthcoming. This is a beautiful indication that perhaps there is more work to be done.
Readying yourself in preparation and opening yourself to receive are huge accomplishments. This is a very good thing. And, witnessing what we do with what comes our way, or what doesn’t come our way, informs us of what may be the obstacles in the way to literally experiencing the receiving our heart’s desire.
Back to the drawing board, as they say. Back to noticing any limiting thoughts and beliefs - in essence, any data that influences your state of being.
This process continually reveals deeper and more subtle patterns of thoughts that influence our capacity to receive what is. Sometimes those thoughts and emotions are elusive. You have a sense of them but you can’t yet put your finger on what it actually is.
I go into my sleuthing mode, noticing what stimulates that elusive something to arise. Quite often I’ll write it down to track the consistency of my discoveries. I’ll ask “what is the source of this shy, elusive, and fleeting sensation?"
I’ve been working with such a process over the past month or so. Fleeting sensations of anger arise. I attend to them when they arise and what has them arise. I’m pretty clear that they arise when I’m about to do something that is related to putting myself and my work into the world. I’m getting clearer that it is related to a belief that I somehow am not enough, as in, “If I was enough, my work would be acknowledged with fame and fortune.”
I know that as long as this “not enough” belief resides within me, I won’t receive my heart’s desire. So I go back to the drawing board, writing down what I know to be true, I come back to love, I come back to the truth that I lack nothing, I come back to letting go of my attachments to my life looking a certain way because of what I am doing in the world.
“You are giving too much for nothing!” arises, as a deep sensation in my body, while sharing this with you. This sensation and the thought itself is just information. Some aspect of me is not at peace. It is grumbling and it arises as surges of anger when I’m about to share myself in the world. It says, “I’m angry that you aren’t getting anything tangible for this.”
My job is to be present to this aspect that is angry. It has been hurt, perhaps lifetimes ago, and it wants something to take away that hurt. That something, it believes, has something to do with getting acknowledged, getting famous, and getting wealth. I sit with this anger, as I would with a client. Gently encouraging more openness about the source of that hurt, and perhaps some catharsis of the pain and grief that arose at the time of the hurt. I know there is no point in attempting to push or rush this process. It takes the time it takes.
I share this example with you with the intention of sharing that coming to truly manifest one’s heart’s desire requires bringing every aspect on board and integrating all of them into a unified field of resonance with that which you wish to manifest. Patience and presence, self-compassion and self-honor are key practices.

I Feel So Alone! Even though millions of people are simultaneously experiencing themselves in a spiritual immersion process, we tend to feel so alone in our own little world.
Even though millions of books are available, millions of videos and podcasts, thousands of Spiritual Teachers and Spiritual Coaches are available for support, as we go through our own journey, we tend to feel like there is no one else doing what we are doing. Why?
Each of us, in solitude, has to discover for ourselves who it is that is within us. We can only know ourselves through our own direct experience with ourselves. Who is in me, how I be me, how I do me, is unlike anyone else on the planet.
My own personal work, and these podcasts, can only suggest ways that have been part of my experience. I can share what I've learned from other spiritual teachers, but you have to realize for yourself who you are, how to do you and be you, by yourself. It's pretty amazing I think!

We Like Rewards! Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts take on challenges to earn badges. They expand their breadth of experience to include activities that up until now have been perhaps outside of their comfort zone. But, for the sake of earning the badge, they assail the unassailable. So it is with life as a human-spirit.
A lot of people enjoy electronic games. There are all sorts of awards and rewards built into the process of advancement. There is acknowledgments of accomplishments - woo-hoo! There is also the training of one’s self to be responsible for the level of advancement attained and to be attained. These are very cool. Taking responsibility for your own life is key in gaming and in the real world.
So where are the awards and rewards of spiritual work?
Some religions and spiritual traditions say, "work hard now so you can get the rewards when you die." Racking up Karma Points - Yahoo!
Intrinsic rewards are built in to a lot of activities now that I think of it. Sports bring people to those sweet spots, those moments of flow, union, one-with-the... that brings then back for more. That’s been my experience of this spiritual immersion process as well.
Like any discipline - scouting, gaming, sports, surgery, with advancement comes fulfillment. Discovering the aspects of this spiritual work that will keep you coming back for more - well that's the real reward!

If You Are Exhausted Go Rest! Quite often people who are going through a spiritual immersion process find themselves very tired. Why? They are detoxing and purging old patterns and old energies which takes more out of us than we realize.
Instead of making time to rest it's easy to rationalize the fact that you don't have any reason to be tired, so you shouldn't be tired, so you ignore the signals that your body and energy field are sharing with you.
It is a normal part of this Spiritual Immersion Process to experience fatigue and exhaustion. And, it's really important to listen to those cues and take time to rest, meditate, listen to music, walk gently in nature, or just sit quietly, and of course drink plenty of water. Bringing your body to a state of equanimaty will allow the important detox process to occur. Rest brings your body to a state where it can heal itself in so many ways. Therefore, when we bring our bodies and our beings into stasis, our spiritual evolution can unfold so much more effortlessly. That is what I want for you, and I hope you will allow for yourself.

Learning Takes Place Only in This Moment Quite often I'm frustrated by the fact that I seem to return over and over again to a "problem" that I thought I had a handle on. Simple But Not Easy Many spiritual leaders emphasize the simple steps it takes to get to spiritual enlightenment. Many forget, however, what it was like to discipline themselves to study, train, and be present to all the multiple dimensions that need to be attended to as one who aspires to, if nothing more, emerge from suffering and the agony of humanness.

Like a rocket ship, initially it takes a lot of energy to get off the ground. But once it's out of reach of the gravitation pull of the Earth, it's easier to move closer and closer to your trajectory.

Three Steps Forward, Seven Steps Back As I mentioned in a previous podcast, we have assumptions and expectations about what will occur because we are choosing a spiritual path. One of those assumptions is that if I do the work I will make continual progress. This is true!
However.... Doing the work may require revisiting dark, dank, and gooey places over and over again. That's right, those places you thought you were already "done" with have more to teach you, and, oh, there is so much to learn and experience in those dark and dank places. They are so rich with possibility!
So, the moments of revelation, the moments when you experience rewards from the heavens, the moments when you feel you have finally arrived, those are the very moments that can plunge you into another round of goo! No kidding.
This process is kind of like being on a teeter-totter. Sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down. Neither is bad nor wrong - just different.
In this podcast I use the analogy of what it takes to climb a mountain such as Everest. There are a number of basecamps. It may take weeks or months at each basecamp to acclimate to that environment. Sometimes you have to revisit or retreat to basecamps at lower altitudes to assist you in adjusting to those at higher altitudes. Depending on the level of devotion or dedication to your vision of reaching your peak, you'll willingly revisit those areas over and over again, knowing that you will inevitably reach your highest knowing and your highest contribution to the world.

Outer Directed - Inner Directed Our consensus view of reality strongly encourages us to look outside ourselves for our values, principles, and the How-To's of life. Most spiritual traditions, on the other hand, which may be different than religious dogmas, encourage that we find the truth within ourselves. In fact, we are encouraged to know that truth, trust that truth, and to defer to no one else for the truth!
There is no right or wrong, good or bad in this process of discovering what's true for you. As for me, from the time I was a child, I had a knowing that was different than the religion within which I was raised. However I didn't have the courage to own that knowing until I was around 17 years old. Throughout the following 50 years, I've generated more courage and strength to own my truth - so much so that I'm sharing it here with you.
I share these podcasts not to convince you to follow me and believe what I believe. My intention is to empower and support you to listen to what your inner guru has always been sharing with you.
We need the outer world to reflect to us that which we can resonate and harmonize with. We also need the outer world to perhaps reflect a contrasting perspective so we can listen more deeply to what's true within us. This requires cultivating the ability to discern what's true for us. This takes time, patience, and much practice!

The Leap of Faith Cultivating the capacity to take leaps of faith could be seen as similar to learning how to master the art of flying through the air, leaping from one trapeze to another.
You may not be surprised by this episode to hear that the process of taking the plunge in this spiritual immersion process will require you to take leaps of faith. But don't worry, I'm not talking about huge leaps like from one trapeze to another. Actually, even the slightest shift in thinking or doing might feel as though you are crossing a great chasm with a giant leap.
The truth is that this process only requires you to experiment with shifting one thought at a time, one moment at a time. It only requires that you keep in mind your intention for the outcome you are desiring. Perhaps, like me, that outcome may be to get out of suffering and live more in peace. The point is that it takes courage and strength to choose to choose differently.
No trapeze required!

What Should I Expect to Get by Taking the Plunge? Part of every spiritual journey requires letting go of expectations and attachments to desired outcomes. Well, you might ask, "what's the point of such a process if I can't look forward to having what I want?"
This has been a challenging one to wrap my head around. I've been so addicted to doing in order "to have" that to perceive this any other way seemed crazy-making. However, over time, I let go of doing in order to have, and only "do" for the sake of living in my highest truth and highest knowing.
The inevitable reward of such a practice allowed me to focus and clarify my intention to live in my highest truth, and do what was solely in my highest good. And, the reward to that was a greater degree of serenity, peace, and fulfillment, in addition to an abundance of life experiences that continually reinforce the truths of how great it is to love and be loved by the Universe. I know that sounds woo-woo, but that's what has occurred for me. And, that is what I hope will occur for you, too!

Actively Being Present in the Moment Being present in the moment is one of the most challenging practices. Yet it is one of those preferred destinations that we are set out to reach. Isn’t that funny? That, to be present in the moment, which allows us to relinquish the past in all ways and to allow the future to unfold without our efforts, is what we are out to achieve. We are already here, now in this moment. We’ve gotten this far. Now what’s left to do is detach from everything that keeps us from being here now!
More and more I’m able to experience the truth of what I just said. There is a precious gift available in this moment that will not be experienced until I train myself to be here and let go of everything that interferes with me being here. That’s the work of this process - Spiritual Immersion!

Clearing Energies That Limit Our Potential There is so much of this life that is unseen to most of us. Angels, guides, fairies, orbs, dark forces, entities, and disturbances, just to name a few.
We are continually influenced by this unseen world. We love it when we are aware and sense the presence of those spirit-beings who delight our senses - they let us know in so many ways that we are loved, guided, and never alone. And, there are those spirit-beings who are not interested so much in our Whole Being Well-Being. They are more interested in interfering, messing about, and getting in the way of us being aligned with our highest truth or bringing our highest contribution to the world.
It is a good practice to shoo these negative energies out of our fields. Some of this “shooing” we can do ourselves, and some of it we will need the assistance of professionals. I find this practice of clearing my energy fields to be a really valuable daily process that makes a huge difference in how I feel and how I be in my life.
Have you tried to clear limiting energies? Listen in and then please share your perspective with me on my Facebook page!

Trauma is a Big Fat Be-With As you immerse yourself into this process of exploring who you are and how you be you in this human suit, you will inevitably come to experience patterns of being that are sourced in major incidences of life that were horrible, terrible, and traumatizing.
Our birth process is one example of an ordeal where you were at times without oxygen and blood supply. At times we were stuck or stopped by unforeseen forces. No doubt about it, that was traumatizing to you!
Each of us live with memories embedded in our cells of those traumas. You may not remember the specific incidence, as many of them were initiated in past lives and in your ancestral history. But nevertheless, your body remembers. It will experience anxiousness, irritability, or full blown panic attack. And, the you inside this body feels powerless and out of control. When we understand that the source of these responses to trauma are in the very distant past, we can begin to clear out the memories - detoxing our system of these reactions, so that we can live in serenity, tranquility and peace.
Are you up for it?
Some of this spiritual immersion work can be done on your own - it needs to be done on your own. And for some of this trauma work you will want someone to empower you and support you. Don’t hesitate to do some research to find the right person to be there for you!

Rewards that Come with a Practice of Spiritual Immersion There are plenty of rewards that you will experience through your spiritual immersion process. By sticking with it you'll have experiences that you may have heard of but never imagined would happen for you.
Everyone of us is unique. Every one of us is here to learn something for ourselves that others may not have to learn. How we go about learning and integrating the learning is highly personal. So, one reward is learning to value yourself on your journey.
The cultivating of freedom from fear, despair and belief that you are a victim, is a wonderful reward. It's an ever expanding process feeling more free, over and over again.
The reward of living in the knowing that you are safe and that you can trust that the Divine Universe / God is alway embracing you with love is beyond what I ever imagined I would experience.
You will have other rewards. These are just a few of mine that I'm sharing!

I Am Responsible for My Own Life There is a wonderful and empowering moment that occurs when we really get the degree to which we are empowered and responsible for creating the life we want.
So often we have to look at those beliefs that act as constraints, limiting our capacity to have the life we say we want to have. In this moment we have the ability to change those beliefs.
What's necessary is taking it seriously that each of us is responsible for the degree of happiness, love, and prosperity we experience in our lives. That's huge!
Many of you may choose to argue with me on this point. I'm good with that! However, will that argument get any of us closer to what we say we want? I'd rather consider all the ways that I am responsible for limiting my beliefs, my perceptions, my imagining, so that I can see where the limitations showing up in my life are mine and not due to certain conditions of my environment or culture.
I can at least take responsibility for what I can choose to change for myself, or not! Either way, I can rest assured that I'm taking responsibility for my life and accepting the ways I choose to limit possibility.

Self-Empowerment is Required for Spiritual Awakening Many of us hope that just by reading spiritual material, listening to spiritual teachers speak spiritual material, or just meditating itself will bring about spiritual evolution. Truth is, cognition and mentalizing the theories of spiritual development alone won't bring you into alignment with your highest truth and knowing.
So many of us want to be more spiritual, and we want to live in the truths that we preach to others. But most of us are afraid to directly engage with ourselves and our principles. I find that fascinating.
It is essential that each of us empower ourselves to choose and then to act upon the choices we make. Self-empowerment is essential for any incremental development to occur. You can think about it, read about it, and listen to others talk about it, but if you are not practicing in exercising and experimenting with the spiritual ideas you have, then you won't make the kind of progress you are hoping for.
That's right: you and I have to walk our talk!!!

True Forgiveness Comes with Compassion It's really challenging to let go of rightness and wrongness. It's so hard to stop seeing ourselves as something other than love and light. This process of spiritual immersion empowers us to really look deeply into ourselves, our core fears, and the choices we made because we were so full of fear.
As we realize that each of us are acting solely from our fears - most of the time, we begin to cultivate compassion for everyone. And slowly but surely we cultivate compassion for ourselves. We give up the practice of self-loathing and self-abuse and slowly but surely recognize the delightful beautiful being that is within us.
In effect, we begin to express that beingness in the world as the natural expression of who we are! Fear Be GONE!!!

What Are You Afraid People Will Find Out or Decide About You? This process of Self-Discovery takes the time it takes. We can't hurry it along and to some degree we really don't want to. You see, it's as if you are discovering who you are in your own epic adventure of your life. You are revealing how you came to be you in this moment. You uncover core fears and beliefs about yourself - ones that were so horrible that you did everything possible to keep them secret.
You trained yourself to be in a way that you believed would keep you safe. Now, as you unravel the story of you, you become free to choose differently. You are now free to experience who you are outside the constrained and limited beliefs you've carried for so long.
You are liberating yourself from patternings that you thought were necessary, or that you thought were you. You are now free to look at yourself - your essential and natural expression of who you are! Fun, right?

Cultivating Your Faith-Leaping Muscles Engaging in a practice of spiritual immersion requires developing your faith-leaping muscles. You aren't required to leap tall buildings in a single bound, or swim vast expanses of water.
Just to notice thoughts and willingly let go of those thoughts for others is all that's required. Sometimes it will take a lot of courage to do just that. It takes faith and focus on those spiritual principles that you know are foundational to who you are as you.
Willingly choosing to choose to live in that will take some leaps of faith. Incremental baby steps is all that's required!

In this process we are training ourselves to put down our swords and shields and experience being in what is, with what is, as it is. We are learning to stop the attacks on others and ourselves. We are training ourselves to notice when we are in fear. We stop living in fear of perpetual defeat, of abandonment, and of the fear of being forsaken by God and by ourselves.

Many people think that there is no purpose in devoting themselves to a spiritual path. This couldn't be further from the truth. A spiritual practice is highly pragmatic. It empowers every individual to look at what they believe to be their highest purpose and intention, and to then take the steps in that direction. In doing so they find greater fulfillment and prosperity. It's a paradigm shift, indeed.
Putting a stake in the ground for which paradigm, which line of thinking will bring you to your highest truth and your highest expression of your Self is what we are here to do. You get to decide which path empowers you and brings you to fulfillment, without fear.
We are trained to be motivated by fear. Fear of losing, fear of failing, fear of betrayal and abandonment, just to name a few. Our cellular memory has us on autopilot to be afraid of just about everything and everyone - to one degree or another. Cultivating awareness of our motives, the source of those motives is an essential practice in bringing about a life that is in alignment with our spiritual truths.
Motives arise from decisions we’ve made, usually when we are little children, or in past lives. Somehow we come to decide that it isn’t enough to just be me. I have to be more - to prove my worth, to earn my keep, to bring value to other people’s lives. Now is the time to look at the choices we've made in the past and perhaps choose differently.

Through a practice of Spiritual Immersion, we become aware of shifts - sometimes tiny, sometimes not so tiny. As we let go of negative thoughts, more positivity arises without efforting. We wonder if we are making it up.
The joy of living is inherent in our Souls. As we put down patterns of being, patterns of doing, patterns of thinking and perceiving, joy arises naturally. And drawn to us are people, places and things, that enhance our lives in ways never imagined.
Progress made in surrendering what no longer makes sense, what no longer works, and those relationships that cause us suffering to what ever degree, allows us profound realizations that we are 100% potentiality. Our inherent joy and all that brings us that joy is ours, if we just allow it to be so.

There are many ways to be in a spiritual immersion process in relation to time. You can speed it up, slow it down, or stop the whole process - for awhile anyway.

The majority of our thinking is automatic. The acceleration of our thoughts is constant. There are only rare moments of choosing to think what to think.
Through a spiritual immersion process you are being asked to question your reality. You are asked to notice interpretations & beliefs that are on autopilot, so much so you don’t even know that your intelligence has been on hold and that you are acting solely on impulses. Who knew?!

We will uncover where we get into trouble, where we get close to the edge of our comfort zone, where we get out of our comfort zone, where we get too scared, and when we automatically retreat back into our ego itself, or in our thoughts about how things should be.
