A lot of people live the life that other’s have chosen for them. Their jobs, their interests, their “passions,” it’s just things that they think they are supposed to care about. Stop living your life for other people. Stop living up to everyone else’s expectations. It’s not about them. It has to start with you. You have to take charge of yourself if will ever accomplish anything meaningful or have an impact on your community. Doing good business is important, being a good person is essential. Good thing for us todays guest is a great example of both. Living a life of comfort doesn't come easy, it takes a lot of work, a lot of time, and actually giving a crap. I really think this is a good one.

Wanting what someone has, without wanting to be the kind of person that deserves it, is a sure fire way to failure. Looks past all the glitter and gold, focus on what they do, who they interact with, and ultimately who they ARE deep down. It might not be the quick fix secrete that you’re looking for, but it is real and true.

In this EP I really want you to think about What you need to take a “Rest” from, and What will Recharge You. We need you if there is any hope for a better tomorrow.
It sounds so easy and we would like to think we do it all the time, but telling someone what they need to hear, not what they want to hear, is one of the strongest muscles to develop. Without it your leadership bod will always be unstable. Take the time to think about a recent convo where you buckled under the pressure and told someone what they wanted to hear, even though you knew it wasn’t the truth. How could you have handled it, what should you have said? You’ve got this. Don’t Give Up. We Can Be Better. Love Y’all. Josh

In this EP we got to sit down with one of the most motivated people on planet earth, Ben Newman.
Ben Newman, besides making it very clear that he is first and foremost a Husband and Father, is the Mental Strength coach for many high achievers, the least of which is not the University of Alabama and Kansas State. Ben’s deep commitment to internal excellence shows forth in his speaking, coaching, and results. Like most epic stories, this drive did not come naturally or easy. It was learnd though pain, through suffering, through pushing past every excuse the world wanted to give him. Gosh dang I am pumped just thinking about this EP. Your not gonna wanna miss it. Be sure to Follow Ben @ContinuedFight on instagram and take full advantage of his book by direct messaging him. https://www.instagram.com/continuedfight/
In this EP we sit down with Emerson Hodes and Cody Isabel and ask some of the basic questions I have regarding crypto currency. I, like a lot of you, have gone from “This stuff if a joke," to “Am I missing out on the next gold rush." I think the truth is somewhere in the middle and I hope at the end of this podcast, you feel a little more in the know, and less in the dark.
Whats up podcast peeps in this episode we talk about the pressures of taking a stance on what we believe and the potential consequences that follow them. Learn more about Empowered Electric at:

Nope… Life is way to freaking short to not say the things you need to say.
Nope… I don’t mean telling that person off or cussing out your boss.
I mean telling those people you’re proud of them. That you’re thankful for them.
That You Love Them.
Don’t wait to give a great eulogy speech, tell them today.

Asking for something and not getting it is one of the hardest things you will face. It takes a lot fo courage to step out there and tell someone what you want, what you think you’re worth. To spill your guts and share your dreams… but just because your courageous or think you deserve or have worked and earned something doesn’t always mean you willl get it… we’ll at least at first. This was a very hard and painful lesson for me to learn. In my eyes I was crushing it financially. In my eyes I was crushing the stability and providing game. To my future father in law, well, I was a bloody joke. Listen to how I responded and my life was forever changed.
"Gosh dang it... I'm working so freaking hard but I'm not seeing the results that I know I want, what I deserve... why do I keep getting overlooked on this promotion, why can't I be a team lead, Am I dumb, Not good Enough, Whats Wrong with Me?" I would be lying if I didn't say that I have each and everyone of these thoughts at some time in my life, but lucky I ran into Russ. Russ was one of the first foreman that I got to work with and while he was a hard ass, he said something that would shape the way I walked to the port a potty every dang day.
In this EP we talk about one of the dopest guys I've meet in my life. Seth, this man is a living and breathing G.I. Joe. I learned so many lessons over the years from him and this is one of the most important. Thinking While Moving. Right now everyone wants to talk about their plan, having a plan, making a plan, plan plan plan. And look I'm all about the effectiveness of planning, but Seth is really onto something when he says "think while moving." So many of our plans are created in a static, problem free, everything looks good on paper, world. Remember what Mike Tyson said, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." Life will punch you in the mouth. The world is hard. Life has it's ups and downs... I only know one way to not get suck and that is to Keep On Moving.
To be completely honest, I still have no idea if I could have turned right on red, but I do know that the world needs a little more KINDNESS, SYMPATHY, Less SMART A$$(ery) and a lot more COMPASSION. This is one of those moments that I’m going to remember for the rest of my life. You don’t want to skip this EP.

Guys there have been so many questions in regards to EP 219 W.I.N. that I had to record a part 2 talking about how to deal with your past and your future. This might hit a cord, this might make you feel uncomfortable, but I’m gonna tell you right now that the only way to overcome your past, the only way to guarantee that your future is something you're proud of is to freaking grow and adjust. Not Heal, Not Process, Not all the things popular culture tells you to do. Focus and Clarity… gosh this is a drum imma keep beating on. I want you to win. I want you to grow. This is only possible by being present right now.
“You’ve made your bed now sleep in it...”, “ You reap what you sow...”, “What goes around, comes around...”. I’m sure you’ve heard one of these statements in your life. Probably after you did something stupid that you wished you could take back. While the hard reality of life is there are no take backs or do overs, there is an amazing truth that Joe hits on over and over again. Second Chances. Grace. Forgiveness and Transformation.
Joe is the proud owner of CrossFit Crescent, a CrossFit gym located in Jordan, that is focused on whole person healing. This is meaningful work that he will soon share with his wife and and three boys as they leave American to make Jordan their full time home. Working hard, building a team, never giving up, being bold, forgiving yourself and others. Just a handful of amazing things that will be talked about in this EP. This guys is freaking amazing. Ps. Me and Matt actually won the W.O.D. Derek and Joe cheated. #Facts
Maybe one of the most important questions you could ask yourself today is, "What's Important Now?" I would love to take credit for the power of this question but it was brought to my attention while reading "Essentialism" by Greg Mckeown. He said that it is this question that has lead to an outstanding culture of winning for the New Zealand All Blacks (the most dominate mens rugby team of all time). What's Important Now??? Such a basic question that I know will help you so profoundly like it has for me... BUT If you don't do the necessary work up front, no matter how often you ask it, you might miss the real answer. Let me know what you think of this Tuesday Tuneup. I know for me "What's Important Now" is getting some of y’all to rate us on iTunes. It means a ton and lets us know that your enjoying and benefiting from the work we are trying to do. As always hit me up if you have any question or need a little nudge to take the first step in building the life you are proud of!

Last week I had a pretty awesome phone conversation with a lady that is making a massive difference in a young mans life, but its hard, and its messy, and she was looking for a quick and easy fix to get through to this troubled young man… For some of you, you are wondering why in the world she would call me. Others already know. I got the privilege to speak at a juvi hall for about 4 years to some pretty amazing, but troubled, young men and women. I had a blast and it will always go down as a high light of my life mostly because I saw so much of myself in those kids. They were scrappy survivors that were most of the time doing what they had been taught. I was lucky enough to break the cycle of poverty, addition, and self defeat in my life and till the end I want to help others. In this EP I share just a couple lessons I learned from the juvi hall.
S^2, might as well call it S^6 cause that’s how many freaking stores these dudes have. Kyle and Jeff are the two franchise owners of Supplement Superstore here in Kansas City and man I have been lucky enough to sit down and talk with these guys on multiple occasions. I remember seeing a poll on instagram a while back that said, “are franchise owners, entrepreneurs?” Well the person asking that poll haven’t meet Jeff and Kyle. Their rise to ownership took some funny twists and turns and probably no one, themselves included, saw them having such amazing success with, culture and profitability, and just over all grit and drive. Guys if you like what you hear be sure to follow them on instagram @Jeff_Wasserman and @KComes316 and harass them until they start their own podcast. They would crush, so let jump in.
What up everyone, in this EP we talk about why it is important to provide a good service.
This episode of the podcast is brought to you by Swell Spark, what is Swell Spark you might ask. It is the mother ship of all things Fun and Cool in Kansas City. Matt Baysinger started Swell spark to make fun easy. They have locations all over the country that house breakout escapes rooms, axe throwing rooms, indoor mini golf. Seriously this guy is like the most successfully toys-r-us kid that just didn’t want to grow up. He wanted to work hard, have fun, and he wanted you to have fun too. This guy is such a freaking cool person and makes everyone he meets feel special so enough man crushing lets jump in and take with Matt right now:
Podcast Listeners, boy do we have a treat for you! Returning from Episode 091 we have Conner Hazelrigg. She is the founder and developer of product called the Sunshine Box….the sunshine box is a portable, suitcase sized, battery pack with solar panels that can bring power all over the world. Powering tools to build housed, phones and tablets to communicate on, computers to start e-commerce stores across the world. This thing is amazing. The actual name of the company is 1773 Innovation which is like the coordinates of somewhere in the world. I don’t now she is crazy smart and driven but apparently haven’t brought a simple DBA and called the company Sunshine, come on Conner. I really think you are gonna love this chat. We talk about what she is currently up to. Where she see’s the sunshine box going (spoiler alert) this is just a stepping stone. You’re not going to want to miss this EP… rather than blabbing on why don’t we just jump into the episode.
In this episode we talk all things Empowered People Business Cohort. Why Josh decided to start it, who it benefits from it and how the Cohort sets itself apart from other events.
Once again we come to you on Valentines Day with a special episode of the podcast with Bridget Levin. It is no surprise that running a Buisness, or trying to climb the ladder, can often times put a lot of strain on the relationships that are closest to you. In my case, my wife. We have sat down and talked about the good, the bad, and the ugly and this year we honestly get to come from a place of happiness. Our marriage is in a really good spot and we wanted to share some of that with you, not to brag, but to just encourage you all to not give up on the people that are closest to you, the people that matter. Results will come, stay focused and committed. Love you all.
Bo Nelson is one of my favorite people on the planet earth. In this convo he drops so many nuggets of wisdom. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, Bo knows what it takes to not lose focus no matter how rocky the road. Please show your love and support in 2 ways. Step One: help us spread the word by posting about this podcast on any social media platform. We love what we are doing and believe in it whole heartily and want to have more people nudged to dare courageously. Step Two: go to ThouMayest.com and grab a bag of coffee.... if you don’t drink coffee you might need do Step One twice ;)
Hey guys this is What You Talking About and in this episode we discuss How people only expect us to do what it is we say we're going to do.
I know you’ve heard the word triggered before… and probably felt some way about it. Well imma do my best to shed a little light on not only what I think the word Triggered truly means, but how you should treat the people around you when they are triggered. Let’s commit right now to be a little nicer, listen more than we talk, and do our absolute best to make the world a place we are proud to live.
Zik Nganga - The Fired Up King, is a Senior at UMKC pursing a business degree, host of a growing podcast “Fired Up KC”, and is just one of the most genuine and networked dudes and he’s just getting started. So thankful that we were able to meet up and record this EP. Putting yourself around people that want you to be better, that fill your passion tank, so gosh dang important!
In this EP we talk about changing your should(s) to must(s), defining success for yourself, and the pathway to all goals worth having… Hard Work. Thanks a ton for tuning in this week and if you like or love what we are trying to do here at the Empowered People please hit us up with that 5 Star rating, leave us a review, let us know how we can help you achieve whatever it is you want!
You will see what you’re looking at, so be careful with what you focus on.
You will see what you’re looking for, so be mindful of your biases. Life is going to come at you no matter what, Better not live life with your eyes half opened. Have a great week. - Josh
Guys we need more people like this. Positive, Encouraging, Hopefully, Uplifting, Good Friends, Better Husband and Wife. Steve and Kiffany are crushing it at life and business and its not because it comes easy… its because they focus in and get to work. Y’all are gonna love this EP. Be sure to follow them on instagram Cottontale_KC and Cookies_and_Creamery. Love these two!!!
In this podcast I’m going to take a little different of an approach to an extremely good lesson I’m learning about what you are requiring of yourself and others. This has been an extremely hard lesson for me to learn. I want to fall on the sword for just about everything in the world but is that right? Should you always pick up the slack, tie the loose ends, be stuck disappointed. Being a fair and honest person doesn’t exclude you. So I need you to ask yourself:
Are you Doing what you’re asked or what you're capable of??? Are you Doing what you're asked or what you know is right??? Once you answer these questions now for step two and probably a little harder, as a leader, Are you letting people know what you want and what you expect??? Accountability and Expectations are extremely difficult as a leader because it will require you to embrace conflict, it will require you to tell people that they are wrong and it will definitely require you to stand on what is true and right.
If you care about growing as a leader this episode is for you. We sit down with a dude that has literally wrote a paper for every question about leadership that I asked him. Such a fun conversation. Charles Smith is a VP for the fastest growing Seminary and Bible college in America and just received a PHD in Leadership. I’m lucky enough to call this man a friend and we are all lucky enough to listen to this EP. It is packed with leadership truth. If you like this ep be sure to write a review and hit that 5 Star rating on iTunes and check out his podcast “The Leadership Project” with Charles W. Smith Jr. Enjoy.
On this EP I call myself out for a lie I’ve told for too many years. This story has a really easy message. Don’t lie. Be honest. Accept the result. It also has a little deeper message. Every little decision leads to a bigger consequences and the longer you wait to start taking life serious the harder it is to succeed. Love y’all.
In this EP we sit down with Brandon Haggard of the EDC and talk through his desire, much like yours, to start a podcast. Like a lot of you that I have talked to, Brandon has a very unique point of view and wants to share that with the world. You don’t have to be the best, just be different. Enjoy.
In this EP 200… can you stop a second and read that again… EP 200!!! We are hitting on the idea that Perception is Reality. Your Perception, Others Perception. It matters. Like it matters a lot and you are in control.
Ps. Thanks so much for all the time and attention and application you have taken over the years. It’s my hope and desire that each podcast gives you a little boost of energy, of hope and excitement, some encouragement to jump out and give it a shot. You’ll never know if you don’t try.
In this Long EP I sit down with Shane Fowler of MindMade and talk all things 2020. We hit on the state of Small Businesses, mental health, whiskey, and about a million other things. He’s brilliants and I have questions so buckle up or get on a treadmill cause we are going for a while. I really enjoyed and loved this convo… I hope you do to.
Winners and Losers see the same thing, but they don’t start from the same place. Camaraderie isn’t it... Courage is. Ability isn’t it.... Attitude is. Other peoples perspective isn’t it... Your Perspective is.
"It’s hard to imagine what you have never seen”… this is the phrase that really got to me this Christmas season while I think about how I am doing as a dad. I know it seems weird but in my mind what made a dad great, isn’t exactly the same as what my kids think. Stepping outside your preferences for just a second and asking about other peoples priorities might bring a little light this Christmas season.
In this episode we sit down with Josh's brother-in-law Brennan Kelly to talk about the slippery slopes of chasing a dream and how Brennan regained his footing by shifting his focus. Reach out to him @brenpkelly !
Hey guys in this episode we talk about seeing things from others point of view and how driving stick translates to real life.
The things that are making you mad… the things that you're frustrated about… so many of them could be solved if you stoped letting your entire life be shaped by your experiences. I know that sounds crazy because how do you see the world not through your eyes??? The answer is simple but you might not like it… BOOKS. Reading might not come easy, I suck at it, do it anyways. Reading takes a lot of time, so what make it. You might not know what to read, literally anything. Guys I know this is a massive generalization but growing your perspective and knowledge leads to understanding and resolve. You owe it to yourself. Free Your Mind.
The most important thing to give this holiday season is Time. GiftingTime to your friends and family will go much further than any stocking stuffer ever will.
Hey Guys and Gals, forget peer pressure, forget FOMO, forget all the people telling you what you want to hear instead of what you need to hear. This Thanksgiving, refocus on who and what you could become… lets get there together!
Guys so much attention is given to “self” care right now. How to make sure you are ok, doing alright, grounded, in a good space…. but man I don’t know. I am thinking so hard right now about People needing People and it being better to give than receive. But JOSH what about Covid? What about stay in place what about blah blah blah??? Yeah, all those things are real, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything. Safe, Distanced, but still things can be done. There are things that you can do no matter what… please give a crap this holiday season.
What's up guys we cover a couple topics in todays EP.
Opportunity never leaves a voice mail & hardly ever calls back...
Minimum effort will always get you minimum wage.
You have 8 weeks to nail down your 2021 New Years Resolutions and guess what… the way you end 2020 will determine if you crush 2021. No way you are going to coast your way into a full sprint come the first of the year. Before you start just writing a list of your goals ask these two questions…
Also if you have means to buy some Christmas presents for some down and out little kids, it would mean a ton to me if you did. There were a lot of Christmases that the only gifts I got came from a local charities donations. Love y’all!
Note to Self: (1) It’s not what you do once, it’s what you do often. (2) It’s not who’s in charge, it’s about taking charge. (3) It’s not about checking a box, It’s about checking your heart.
Now more than ever I believe going from 10 to 25 is how you learn to go from 50 to 100...You can't leap frog step 1.
Just because you heard it - doesn’t mean it’s true.

Not only are there stupid Questions but there are stupid Answers and that is what I wanna focus on in this EP. Stupid Questions & Answers have a lot in common, they are lazy, they are quick to anger, and they earn no ones respect…. but let's focus on the positive…. Let me know what you think.
Hey guys as suicide prevention month comes to an end the pain from suicide doesn’t. Way to many people have taken their lives leaving behind painful amounts of weight to be carried by others. You’re not alone. You’re not too far gone. You’re not a finished story and You’re best days are not behind you. Please listen to this EP and let it force you to do two things. FIRST - Reach out for help. Stop trying to white knuckle through pain. We all need help sometimes but you have to ask for help. SECOND - Ask people how they are doing. Not while walking by, stop and ask. Not while you look at your phone, make eye contact. Not only on insta messenger, meet in person if you can. You don’t want to live wondering if you should have asked the hard real questions. I love you. I appreciate you. Josh 816.500.9452
Guys way to much thought goes into how you are perceived on social media instead of "Who you actually are" in real life. Do Good, Be Good, Spread Good. People will always take things the wrong way. That is part of life but don't let it stop you. In this EP I go a little deep as to why I am ok with sharing all out "secrets" of success. Let me know what you guys think. Josh 816.500.9452
In two weeks, we launch 2nd Company—our second Empowered People Business Class. Today we're looking at what the class is, who it's for, and why it's beneficial for any man or woman in business. In short, the class meets four weeks in a row for an hour-and-a-half each meeting. We go over a solidified business curriculum to help you start a business, or enhance the company you're a part of. In 1st Company, we had business leaders in real estate, trucking, photography, counseling, fitness, jewelry, and more. Rest assured, the community you'll join and the relationships you'll form are worth it in itself. Not to mention, you'll gain a cheerleader for life.
Most Words Are Used, To Make You Believe Something They Didn’t Say & Isn’t True.
Listen up, if you don’t understand.
It might not make business sense but it needs to make people sense. It might now make financial sense, but it needs to make people and happiness sense. Listen in.
Guys this week we are gonna learn some really valuable lessons about how to see the world right… and its not coming from you or me. It’s coming from some Masons. We need to learn how to see things different, do things different, and care about the people around us… This is a fun memory. I hope you like it. - Josh
The Rule of 5 or your personal “Starting 5” is one of the most impactful things you can sit down and do. Write it down. Think about it. Make any required changes necessary. If you are the average of the 5 people who are closest too... then the easiest way to level up is take this serious. Your Future Is Worth It.
Guys there are less than 20 weeks left in 2020. Are you going to limp and coast your way to the end and just settle for the results. Chalk it up to a bad year, bad economy, bad health and environment? Or are you going to take charge, put in the work, and make 2020 a year worth remembering…. Because you crushed it! I know where I’m heading.. I’ll see you at the finish line - Josh
Slowing Down is not the Problem. Being Silent is not the Problem. You and I are not the Problem, but just because you’re not part of the problem doesn’t mean you can’t be part of the solution. So what, what do you need to do???? Listen and find out more...
Hey guys it takes no skill or talent or hard work to chalk up 2020 as a L… let’s not do that. Instead dig down deep and work hard to allow 2020 to make you a harder, stronger, more focused and driven version of yourself… that takes work, that takes talent, that takes skill. All of which you have!
Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would get to sit down with Joel Goldberg, broadcast specialist for the Kansas City Royals. I mean he gets to talk to professional athletes for his job… why would he sit down and talk to a business owner for free??? Because that’s the kind of guy he is. A person with a ton of knowledge, wisdom and a caring heart. That doesn’t want to just see Kansas City entertained but inspired. This guy has become a great friend and I know you’re going to enjoy this convo! Be sure to check out his podcast Rounding the Bases… but only after you make sure to rate ours :)
Many of you have heard about having a business elevator speech… well I think you should have a personal one too. A couple sentences that you tell yourself, to remind yourself, to focus and motivate yourself when times look gray. Listen to this EP for a little more instructions.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Jeanette Thomas of Hope International. Hope invests in the dreams of families and entrepreneurs in our world's underserved communities. Learn how COVID has devastatingly impacted entrepreneurs around the world, but why Hope is coming alongside them to help weather the storm. ALSO, we talk about some tangible steps you can take in your city to empower others and bring them hope during uncertain times. JT is an exciting speaker and articulate when it comes to hard issues in our world – bringing the energy to round out your week!!!
Not all things that feel good are good. Be sure to pay attention to what you think is making your life better because when you turn around… you might be shocked or grossed out.
Guys in this EP we nail down the 10 biggest ways to kill at your next job interview. The new normal is gonna hit a lot of people like a ton of bricks. Jobs are not going to be as easy to find as they once were but I promise if you listen and do the 10 things below you will stand out among the competition.
Ive done 100’s of interviews. These are the 10 things that will make you stand out. I promise.

Before Starting Empowered I had never bid a job. I had never sold an electrical project. I knew how to do the work, I know how to manage the people but actually getting work lined up wasn't something I knew how to do. Flash forward 5 years and 20 Million dollars in revenue later... I would say I have a pretty good handle on it. I put in the work, I spent the time learning, but I also took advantage of RFP's. Request for Proposals. What most people call a waste of time... but not me. These were the most important learning opportunities for me to learn the markets value and grow to be competitive in my bids. Listen to the full EP and hear me out. You keep claiming they are a waste of time... I think you are wasting time. Get to work.
Guys… stop scrolling! There is a time and place to veg out on social media but most of us do it way too much. More Time must be spent on our own personal and professional development. The more we wait to magically become the kind of leader we will be needed to be more we are just setting ourselves up to fail in the spot light. Listen: Spark Notes: Read More Books, Listen to More People, If Something Seems Wrong… Reevaluate. - The Empowered People
On this episode of the Empowered People we sit down with Andy Frisella, The MFCEO himself, and hit some pretty Real AF topics.
We talk about his relationship with his best friend and partner of 21 years, we talk about the motivators in his life (hint its a bunch of people) but most importantly, he pushes into why he is so passionate about helping people achieve the full potential.
Guys this is probably my favorite podcast I have ever listened too… I can’t believe I got to be apart of it. Enjoy!!!
I learned in 6th grade that not all wins are pretty… but a win is a win. Winning isn’t easy. It takes hard work, it takes a team and it sometimes even luck but to get there we have got to stop tearing each other down, especially when we are trying something positive. If you are doing your best. If your motives are pure. I’m your fan and I’m cheering for you to win!
Running out of Gas sucks, but not learning from your mistakes sucks even more. If you take anything away from me running out of gas in the middle of nowhere Kansas, please LISTEN UP: You don’t have to agree, to listen. You don’t have to agree, to listen, But If you want to grow, If you want to learn, If you want to understand, If you want to help, If you want to love, If you want to change or help bring about the change that is needed, Then you have to listen.
When the gas tank is low, you are not as driven, as fast, as courageous as this world needs you to be... take time and fill up.
In this EP we talk about 3 easy ways to know if you are dangerously low on the passion tank. Please take the time after this episode to do a little self reflection and think through some ways that you need to put yourself first and fill up. It’s not selfish to make sure you are showing up the best version of yourself. That is what we need, you to be the best you.
I was strong but I was smart I was angry but I was in control I was hurt but I was working for something much bigger than revenge. Justice for Floyd and Revenge look very, very similar but have such different endings. Please listen to these stories about 2 fights I got into and let me know if you need to talk... 816.500.9452 (Josh)
All this talk about being Authentic really has to stop. I mean, I guess it is ok if you don’t care about being a leader, but if you know deep down that you were created to start a movement, you were meant to take charge, if you were meant to help others achieve more than they thought possible. Take these Leadership Lessons from Gordon Ramsay really serious.
Be who they Need you to Be.
Be Who they Want you to Be.
Be Better in Person.
Your Past Does Not Dictate Your Future… Right Now Does… Go!
Collaboration: Be Super Careful Are Both Sides Benefiting? Are The Results Clear? Are You Chasing Fame or Fortune? Listen to this EP to get my perspective….
Plan for the results that you want. Don't use covid as an excuse. and Things are not going to get worse before they get better. How? Listen now.
Sometimes the best way to plan for the future... is study the past.
You’ll never hear me say that our past defines us, but it sure does shape us.
Pay attention to who you’re becoming... take action.
There are things in this world that we are throwing out that will come back to us. What is it that you are throwing out there? Bet it's what you're getting back.
You have been exposed….
What should you have done with your friends?
What should you have done with your family?
What should you have done with your job?
What should you have done with your body and mind?
Now go do that….
Guys in this EP we tell you the 2 biggest ways to make sure your date night is a success.
Make it Special.
Make it Intentional.
There are so many things that can branch off from these 2 easy steps, but if you don’t included either of them… you will fail.

Today’s episode was actually taken from a podcast that I got to be on while at the INC 5000 gala last year. USA Booming with Sam and Ryan. They are a couple of cool guys that were a lot of fun to hang out with. So without further rambling EP 139 USA booming with Sam and Ryan.
Guys they say that you are the average of the 5 closet people around you… you’re gonna wanna make that three people because Will and Kaylee are taking up two seats! The current workplace is in the largest scale disruptions we have ever seen and we were so luck to sit down with these two people just weeks before the crap hit the fan in KC. Whether it is remote workplaces, internships, the talent pool or the future of technology and what is really needed to succeed… William and Kaylee have some great insight. Please give a follow to the work they are both doing on Instagram @Hire_KC and check out ways to get involved at HireKC.org
I realize that the best a lot of people can do is just finish.
Finish the Diet, Finish the Workout, Finish the Book, The Project, The Whatever… If thats the case, if finishing is all you are going for, good for you. For Real, Good Job. But, What if you could accomplish more. More than Finish, More than Endure, More than just barley get by…. What if you won? I think, I know you can. Stay Tuned
We wish we could tell you in person but 5 years with you dudes is amazing. I hope you’re excited about the future as much as we are!!! March 20th, 2020. Day 1 Chapter 2. The Story is Ours… get to writing.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Remember even thought the sky is gray outside… the sun is still shinning far above what we can see or experience. There could not be a better interview to drop than this one today. Ryan Farmer is part of The Dream Factory in KC and has help young terminally ill kids see the light and bright side of things for years now. An organization that pushes people to look beyond themselves and how they can impact others in a positive way is exatually what we need to hear right now. Wait till the very end to hear how you can learn more about this years Boulevard of Dreams gala and ways to get involved. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission so be sure to reach out to RFarmer@mzltg.com to stay up to date on all things Dream Factory Related. - Josh and the Empowered Team (wash your hands)
Everyone wants to have written… but no one wants to write. It’s Work, It’s Hard, It Takes Time and Most of the Time… what you write isn’t very good. We live in a “Storytellers” world right now. Long form social media post, LinkedIn Philosophers and even podcasting is desperately trying to throw their hats in the circle of book writers, journalists, and established media sources. Rather than talking about how “old media” is dead we had the amazing privilege of speaking with Tommy Felts from Startland News about what truly makes a great, worth your time, sharable, worthy story. Trained as a classic journalist and writer Tommy takes a very estiblished, solid, scalable approach to things like, Good Questions Word Length The Constant Creation of New Material And so Much More. Tommy and Startland News are trying to really be a “what’s happening” bridge or tried and true principles of reporting with new school means and methods. From first hand experience Tommy has done a great job of getting beside some of the biggest names and stories in KC without getting in front of them. Follow along with Tommy on instagram @StartlandNews. Be sure to Rate and Review the Podcast.
Hey Guys, This message while touchy is meant to help. Money Problems suck. There are no if, ands, or buts about it. They just suck.
But how do you solve them, what are the reasons for them, how do we break free and never ever return.
Well luckily, thanks to an awesome dude, Luke Owen, I learned a pretty invaluable lesson before I started Empowered.
It wasn’t sexy, it didn’t have any flash, literally everyone with effort and time and do what he told me…
If you have money problems I want you to do 2 things. First Listen to the whole dang podcast and then, two… call me. I can’t promise that I will solve your problems completely, but I would love to help any way that I can.

"Smooth Seas do not make skillful sailors.” This has become one of my favorite quotes of all time and I owe discovering it to our guest on todays empowered people podcast, Brendan O’Shaughnessy. The once bearded sailor’s apparel and design studio “Ocean and Sea” has always stood out to me in the vast ocean of T-Shirt companies not only because of his clever designs and comfortable fabrics, but because of his ability to think about Brand and Business.
We jump in deep, both feet at once into questions like, Does you logo really matter? When should you “rebrand”? Can you develop and business and personal brand at the same time? Honestly I’m going to have to listen to this 40 min EP multiple times to make sure as we continue to grow as a business, our brand stays strong. Follow along with Brendan on instagram and Ocean and Sea. Be sure to Rate and Review the Podcast. Fairness… It’s more than just a word… it’s a moral? A virtue? A higher motivator, calling, purpose?
It’s definitely something I’m trying to teach my kids and daily try to live out in business, heck I would say it is one of the pillars of the “American Dream.” BUT… It’s also a gross excuse why so many never try, give up so easy, take their ball and go home. If “no” or “mine” is the first words many kids say, I bet, “Thats not Fair” is their first sentence. Why would lack of fairness keep up from every trying to do or achieve the things we want? In sports, teams are not all the same, some players are much better than others but we root for the underdog, we see them set up on the biggest stages and punch much harder than their weight. I mean heck this week marks the 40th anniversary of team USA beating the undefeated, reigning, super hockey team from Russia. At a young age I was told some crazy lies about fairness and effort that I am so thankful I don’t still believe. I hope todays EP calls you to higher dreams and stronger efforts…. What do you think, Are Blogs Dead?
This is a very touchy question to ask someone you are paying to write words for you, good luck for us Will Severns has broad shoulders and a whole lot of knowledge to drop.
The use of Words is something that all of us will do whether it is written, spoke, or lip synched in some new TikTok video. So how do we use them well, to get what we want, what we need. Personally or in Business, this is a must listen to EP.
The Empowered People Podcast drops interviews on Thursday to get the answers to some of the Toughest Thoughts out there. If you like what you hear be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out on any weekly episodes.

``` Self-awareness and self reflection are not the same thing. What sucks is usually we have a distorted view of both and don’t even realize it. in this EP Josh talks about one of the funniest and humbling experiences he had realizing he wasn’t the man....
Your time is running out before Valentine's Day. Don’t make the same mistake I did and wait till the day of to buy something for that special person in your life. No matter how much money you spend, your gift will feel fake, disingenuous, cheap. Don’t do that. You have time… Make the Time… It’s Important.
What makes one place better than the other is it service? Is it quality? Is it a mixture of both? Is it a big brand? Is it a small shop? These are some of the questions we sit down and talk to Alex Hammerhand about. Josh holds no punches when talking about the level of service, speed, consistency, and price he has experienced in regards to his love of coffee. Rather than surrounding himself in an echo chamber with a bunch of people that will agree with him, we invited and Alex Hammerhand a local barista owner operator and honestly a coffee expert and a friend of Joshes to give another perspective of so many of these concerns in a way that all of us whether in coffee or construction can raise the bar, increase our standards, and make the overall experience of customers better citywide. Hope you enjoy this discussion. If so be sure to rate and review the podcast and share on any social media platforms you like.
The easy answer is of course the Kansas City, Chiefs But I would argue attitude and effort won the Super Bowl. Regardless of the score regardless of the time the Kansas City Chiefs had a great attitude and we’re willing to put in the effort to lead them to success. Not every path leads to success but every path that leads to success is paved with the right attitude in the right amount of effort. The Empowered people podcast Tuesday tuneup comes out every single week with one goal in mind to inspire you to believe that things could should and will be different if you’re willing to put in the work. Thanks a ton for tuning in this week and listening to founder Josh Levin share the stories and lessons he’s learned by growing in powered electric over the last five years.
Andy Mineo started his career as a teenager, running a hip-hop studio from inside his parents' home. Today, he raps for Atlanta-based Reach Records where he went RIAA ® certified gold, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide, for his record "You Can't Stop Me." We were lucky enough to host Andy on the Empowered People Podcast to discuss how humble beginnings propelled his work as an artist – producing lyrics that inspire and resonate with millions across the globe. From this podcast episode to his Spotify page, Andy drops bombs of wisdom. You really can't stop him.
Kobe was all about Winning… but does winning always mean the other person has to lose?
I don’t think so… actually I know so. Sometimes you win a conversation and lose a friend… and that’s not worth it… not in the long run.
Look You Might Need Money, I get it. You Might Have Had an Opportunity Fall in Your Lap, Take It. Not Everyone is the same…
BUT…
A lot of the times our “Side Hustles” really are a big distraction that can hold us back from seeing the bigger and better opportunities out there.
We want you to be you : To dream your own dreams : Go after what makes you come alive. This includes every single person in every single walk of life. There are only 8 years left until “experts” say the next recession is coming. This is the second best Christmas Present you will ever get.
In this EP Josh pulls back the curtain and tells you something you might not have realized… math is hard.
From Starting in the Trade to Starting a Company, it took… you guessed it 8 years. This is so far from a warning cry or a death sentence. You’ve Got this… if you are willing to focus, knuckle down, and go all out.
When’s the last time you cried…. Like Cried Cried. Ugly Cried. Not because the Hallmark Movie had such a painfully predictable ending but because you felt abandoned, alone, hopeless.
Sometime… honestly you need to cry, let it all out, express yourself the only way you can.
You’re not alone, work, life, is hard… BUT you can’t sit there forever. Eventually you have to get the heck up and do something about it.
In this EP I ask a very simple question that each of you need to answer, “Did it beat you?” If you are looking for the answer key, the answer is “NO”.
It didn’t beat you, it didn’t win, you got up, probably put your big boy or girl pants on and keep working.
Regardless of how 2019 is going please understand this is how you need to finish the year… like that bad son of a gun that you are!
Everyone seems to have an excuse but do you have a reason? Excuses come easy and they come often. They are usually pretty lame and basic and seem to come out of the mouths of the masses. Reasons are a less common, pretty unique, and have a bigger purpose behind them. Don’t understand what I’m talking about, “How’s the Weather?"
Another One Bites The Dust.
Life should tell you that everyone dies at some point and unfortunately a lot of business do as well. Empowered Electric has been in business for 5 short years now, but the list of companies that started when we did is growing smaller.
Rather than throwing shade, Criticizing the C Class, or telling you how we are better, still around. We are taking this EP to self reflect and think about what we can learn from 5 local businesses that this year shut their doors.
This is important, this applies to you, I am not smarter than any of these entrepreneurs and neither are you.
Be sure to learn from all your mistakes…. even better, learn from others mistakes.
Whenever it is in your power to do good, regardless of how big or how small, it is important.
This is important.
No one every thinks about risk until you lose, pain until it hurts, death… you might never get to think about that.
A fellow construction worker, a fellow entrepreneur, a fellow husband and father passed away very unexpectedly this weekend.
Chris Jaggars leaves behind an Amazing Wife, Amy, and 2 Sweet Daughters and I can only imagine what they are feeling, scared, lonely, sad beyond words.
You and I can’t solve those pains. We can’t take that away, undo it, fix it, it is done.
But
We can go right now to the Go Fund Me page set up so that Amy doesn't have to worry about money… at least not right now.
Unfortunately, like most construction workers, Life Insurance wasn’t thing that Chris thought about. Sometimes when you're weighing all thing things you deem priorities, you think some things can wait… until they can’t.
On todays Empowered People Podcast we sit down with one of the coolest dudes I’ve known for close to 20 years. A lot of people know Tommy Saunders as a 4 year starting wide receiver for the University of Missouri (M-I-Z-Z-O-U). They know him for taking second place on Sweet Inc, Hosted by Jillian Michaels. They know him from his Fitness Company FEWDM… The Dude is the definition of Grind, Hustle and determination because everyone of those things came to an end. Tommy talks about the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, all the while growing his family, his faith, and his personal character. By far one of my favorite people and a daily topic of conversation within my family. Proud to call him a friend.
In this Part 2 with Kilee and Soren of Nickel and Suede, we hear about how a tiny piece of leather, bought at an Eddie Bauer resale event would change their lives. So buckle up. Whether you find yourself dreaming about turning your hobby into a full time thing, moving products from your basement or garage, buying you very first store, or blowing every expectation you’ve had for yourself or you business away… This Nickel and Suede interview will fill you passion tank to chase your dreams!
Many of us say that we are always looking for a “bigger and better opportunity” but what does that mean? Have you ever stoped and actually thought about what it is that motivates you? That makes you happy? That would bring meaning of fulfillment to your life? In this Tuesday Tune Up we make that observation that unfourtenly what most people are really after isn’t a bigger and better opportunity, but a bigger and better paycheck. Money has to be “A” factor but if it is “THE” factor your setting yourself up for long term failure. No one wants to go and work at a place where they are treated like a number… well then stoping making all your decisions based on numbers.
The power couple behind the fashion trend that is sweeping across America. Kilee and Soren Nickels joins us on this weeks Empowered People Podcast and it is nothing like you would expect. In this Part 1 of 2 EP’s we refuse to go in-depth on the founding and scaling of their complete gold standard of lite weight, class up any outfit, tear drop Leather Earrings and instead focus on them… the people, the husband the wife, the mother and father, the trying to figure life as college students, the crash to reality of adulting and heart exploding joy of starting a family. What you thought you knew about this dream team might be wrong… but you have to listen to find out.
As Always Thanks a ton for Listening and if you liked this ep or any other the other shows, please show your support but giving us a rating and subscribing so you never fall behind.
Fame isn't a bad thing but trying to be famous is a dead end road with a ditch of regret on ones side and failed expectations on the other.
In this E⚡️P we talk about how learning to chase true and lasting impact was something that is often times learned the hard way. Lucky we learned it very early on, Unluckily we learned it while being filmed on HGTV's hit show, "Tiny House Nation."
Learn from our mistakes and strive to use all your "fame" to benefit others not just your self.
Are you spending time with people that benefit your health and your happiness? A lot of our well being is measured by the company you keep, and in this episode we get to sit down with Dom Green from the Positive People Posse who's positivity and attitude is unparalleled to any other. Check out this episode to learn how you can become the person that others want/need to be around just by changing the way you look at different situations.
When it comes to success, we all want it now. Like right this very second now. Especially when it comes to trying something new. Most of us sit around waiting for someone or something to come our way and make those changes in our lives that for whatever reason we can't make ourselves. Well, I have bad news.. The only person who can do it for you, is you! If you ever want to truly grow and learn what the value of accomplishment feels like, you have to get up and earn it for yourself.
Stop taking the easy way out because the obstacle in front of you seems to big. Obstacles are only small test of the strength behind your passion, and overcoming them is the only way to be successful. Stop being scared of the unknown, stop being scared that there is a cap to your limits and doubting that maybe you aren't the person you think you are. Let me tell you something. YOU ARE THAT PERSON but I promise you'll never know or feel that until you put in the work.
This EP we had the opportunity to sit down with Dave and Emily Mobley with Limitless Brewing and in the words of Tom Haverford, “This episode is a banger.” All relationships have a beginning and from the jump Empowered Electric knew that Limitless Brewing was a relationship not just worth pursing and believing in, but one of the very few businesses that truly understood the power of passion for people. It has been amazing to watch the Limitless team out grow serving samples in their garage, to having a full force brewery and taproom to share with the Kansas City Community. Starting a business takes heart and these brewers never skips a beat.
Do you stress out over due dates and dead lines? Do you like to procrastinate and put off tasks til the last minute? That's because everything you do, will take as long as you allow it! Great things happen when you start working with the time you have available and stop working against the time you have left.
One of the biggest pain points companies are facing today is hiring good employees. In this episode of the Empowered People, Josh talks about the difference between hiring help, and hiring skilled workers. So many times new entrepreneurs are looking for quick help and are willing to give anyone or any friend a job that is wiling to work for them. Listen in as Josh shares his stories about that idea and how it hurt him in the beginning days of Empowered Electric.
Last week we talked about how everyone has a dream customer they want to do work with, but to get the attention of those customers usually you have to start small. This weeks episode builds on that by discussing what to do when you do land a big customer, and how to establish yourself as an honest, credible person in the eyes of those customers by being transparent with them. I understand the idea of being open and vulnerable may make you nervous, but showing the customer you have nothing to hide will create a strong foundation of trust. When you earn trust in any relationship, cool things happen. Mentioned in the Episode Hufft - Hufft is a design shop that creates meaningful spaces and objects. Today's EP is a special episode dedicated to Girls on the Run of Greater Kansas City. Every year GOTRKC holds an "Every Girl Evening" event that helps produce funds for all the girls in Kansas City who want to participate in GOTRKC, no matter if they have the funds or not. They also raise funds at this event for new running shoes that they supply each girl with at the start of the season to ensure they have the right equipment for running long distances without having to spend the money/help create an instant boost of confidence in each one of their girls. I mean, how many times have you not been excited about getting a new pair of shoes?! I know anytime I ever get myself a new pair of freshies I am super stoked to show them off. Anyway, when Josh first heard about this he knew he wanted to help.
As a kid, Josh didn't grow up with a lot of the luxuries most of us did, and that included getting new shoes for anything, practically ever. In this story Josh talks about how he almost got kicked off the wresting team for not being able to afford the right shoes. He also reflects on a time where he was publicly embarrassed because of the shoes he was wearing. When I think about something as simple as a pair of shoes being the center focus of a kids problems, it makes my stomach churn. That's why we are stepping in and ask you to help aid GOTRKC to offset the cost of buying running shoes for all their girls.
We are asking that you help by donating $50 to Girls on the Run. By doing so you will be ensuring that a girl doesn't have to worry about not having the right equipment to join her friends in an activity she loves.
How to donate:
In this episode Josh talks about how he met Bret Springs, who is part of the Back Napkin Restaurant Group and owner of a couple amazing restaurants throughout Kansas City like The Rockhill Grille, County Road Ice House, Parkway on the Plaza, and many others. Through a series of small jobs, Empowered got the opportunity to take a big swing at all these restaurants. Even the office space on the Forth floor of the Rockhill where Empowered Electric was located for almost two years had only transpired by Josh saying yes to a small job that others overlooked. For those of you who are struggling to find the big customers you are wanting to work with, understand that you have to start small and say yes to opportunity. If you haven't realized by now, EVERYTHING IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Enjoy.
In this EP, Josh shares a story about one of the first jobs Empowered Electric landed with Oakwood Contractors. Many times in the service industry, people capitalize off of fear and desperation as a sales tactic to make the most money off a single job. However, right from the jump Josh knew that wasn’t the path Empowered was going to take. Instead, he began to build Empowered as a company that is not about making that quick buck, but more about building relationships through loyalty. Everybody wants loyalty from their customers right? That’s kind of a no brainer but loyalty goes both ways and in order to get what you want, first you must give it. Listen in how Josh’s loyalty approach turned a small job into not just a big customer of ours but, a loyal customer and a great friend. Enjoy.
In my personal experience anytime I've wanted to start something new, it meant putting an end to something else first. For instance, when I wanted to start losing weight, I stopped eating fast food. Another example is when I got a job. I stopped staying up late watching tv and playing video games because I had to get up early in the morning. Ladies and Gentleman, Happy Day of Love. I know, no better way, then to start this special day talking to the special gal of Empowered Electric. You have heard me say over and over again that Empowered Electric would not exist if it wasn’t for Bridget Levin. I think when you read that you might think I’m referring to a one time decision, a moment of heroism, a single event that gave me the courage to jump ship and start my own thing. HA! Please do not let yourself think that. That would be like thinking that the wedding day, saying, “I do” or kissing the bride was the same as developing and maintaining a healthy marriage. To Be Honest this interview is meant to drive deep into what it really takes, what it really costs, to be married and start a company. It’s hard, it’s painful, there are many ups and downs but if you are committed it can be the most amazing thing in the world. We are Happy, Our Marriage is Healthy, We Love each other Completely. In this E⚡️P Josh shares stories about learning co-exist with co-workers. Unfortunately you’re not going to get along with everyone you work with. That’s just a fact. There’s always that one guy who’s best skill is to step into a room and suck the fun out of it. Tune in to listen how Josh overcomes this obstacle very early on in his electrical career and how doing so set him up for the success he’s seeing today.
In previous episodes we’ve told you stories about who we are, how we started, struggles we’ve faced, and how we’ve grown up until this point. This episode focuses where we are now vs. where we want to be and how we’re going to bridge the gap between the two points. We also learn some of Josh’s personal interest outside of Empowered Electric. As you listen I encourage you to ask yourself those same questions. Who are you now? Who do you want to be? Most importantly, What can you start doing TODAY to get you there? Get up and get moving, but tune in first!
Most of our heroes are dead and sadly we killed most of them. We’re so quick to replace them. We're so quick to point out flaws and judge them so harshly we never give them a second chance. This is mostly because we look for them to be perfect to be the hero that rides in and save the day by fixing all our problems, kills all our enemies, and makes everything right. The problem is they are people with flaws. They are imperfect, much like us rather than looking for people to be everything you need in this world. That was when I was really down and out, when I was really lost, when I was really confused and not fix all my problems would be an example of what possibly could be an awesome dad, a loving husband, a great business owner, and a great friend. This EP we talk about my hero and the massive positive impact it had on my life. I hope you have people in your life to push you to be better, to push you to level up. Enjoy.
In the E⚡️P we are talking about who you are, where you are from, and where you are going. It’s crazy where the road of success can lead you, location wise, relationship wise, personality wise. We are all adapting, growing, and moving… but how do we know if we are going the right direction? What if you get somewhere and it’s not where you want to be or who you want to be? For me, it took thousands of miles, delivering the wrong car, becoming a used car sales man that never got to sell a car to realized where my heart truly was. Hope this puts a smile on your face and a dream in your mind… by far the funniest E⚡️P to date!
“I Work Smarter Not Harder” There is no saying in this world I hate more than this one. I think the only real and lasting way to work smarter is by working harder. By busting your knuckles, By pulling all nighters, By failing and trying and doing and failing and trying and doing over and over and over again. And I’ve believed this since I was 9 years old.
