How often do we make decisions based on what feels easiest or safest? Whether it’s avoiding a difficult conversation, staying in a familiar routine, or struggling to watch our children go through hardships, our natural tendency is to seek comfort. But what if our pursuit of comfort is keeping us from experiencing the fullness of God’s plan for our lives?

In this thought-provoking conversation, Dr. Elaina Barron and Angie Elkins dive into the dangers of prioritizing comfort over God’s calling. They discuss how comfort can subtly become an idol, preventing us from stepping into the areas where God wants to grow and stretch us. Through personal stories and biblical insights, they unpack how avoiding discomfort can impact our decision-making, prayer life, and even how we support our children through difficult seasons.

The conversation also encourages listeners to examine their prayers—are we asking for comfort, or are we seeking God’s will even when it’s uncomfortable? Elaina shares practical ways to loosen our grip on creature comforts, embrace challenges, and trust that true peace comes not from ease, but from obedience.

God often does His greatest work in the places that make us the most uncomfortable. If this episode speaks to you, we’d love for you to share it! Thanks for listening!

Whether you’re navigating busy mornings, a shifting season of life, or simply struggling to find time with the Lord, this episode offers practical encouragement to stay the course.

They share personal stories of loss and reveal how the process of lamenting has been essential for them in navigating pain. As ministry leaders we know the order of priorities are God, family, church, but we also know that’s not how it always works. Too often our priorities are distorted due to us living outside of our means with our energy, time, and gifts. Overworking ourselves inevitably leads to affecting the overall mental, emotional, and spiritual health of our family. On today's episode of Let It Shine, we're bringing you a conversation from The Glass House between Ben and Lynley Mandrell and Dr. Heidi Warner.

Dr. Heidi Warner graduated with her undergraduate degree in psychology and writing from Indiana Wesleyan University, Indiana in 2002 and her doctorate in clinical psychology in 2009 from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. She is passionate about seeing hurting people find healing, hope and freedom from the struggles that hold them back from living life fully. Her commitment to supporting people on their journey through hardships comes from a personal Christian faith and her own journeys through difficult times.

Dr. Heidi Warner challenges us to redefine success, grow in the knowledge of our boundaries, and to ask our family the hard questions. This episode is packed with wisdom and practical resources we hope you can use as you strive to honor God with your priorities.

Have you ever been listening to someone spew out their feelings and you immediately want to "fix" it? Have you felt the need to tell them everything is going to be okay and to look at the positives? Now imagine what it would feel like to simply sit with them in their feelings. To simply let them experience the depth of their emotions. On today's show we have an episode from The Glass House where Ben and Lynley are joined with Jennie Allen. The three of them discuss how to untangle the tension of sitting with others in their emotions, and also the tension in experiencing your own emotions.

Jennie Allen, Bible teacher, author, and the visionary behind IF:Gathering, leads a new chapter as the Founder & Visionary of Gather25, a 25-hour global prayer gathering. Driven by a deep love for God and an unyielding belief in the potential of this generation, Jennie's mission is to disciple a generation of Jesus followers to live what they believe. Jennie is a passionate leader following God's call on her life to catalyze a generation to live what they believe. Jennie is the New York Times' best-selling author of Untangle Your Emotions, Find Your People and Get Out of Your Head. Jennie has a masters in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary and lives in Dallas, Texas, with her husband, Zac, and their four children.

Today, Jennie discusses her new book, 'Untangle Your Emotions,' and shares her personal journey of learning to embrace her emotions and the impact it has had on her relationships. Jennie emphasizes the value of being present with others in their pain and the healing power of connection. She also explores the concept of numbness as both a gift and a hindrance, and encourages listeners to give themselves grace in navigating their emotions.

When a pastor or ministry leader falls, it impacts the entire family and community. Walking through a tragedy like this is difficult for everyone. Today’s show is from The Glass House, when Illuminator, Lisa Whittle, shared how she has walked this road firsthand as a daughter of a pastor who had a very public fall from their church ministry position. Lisa Whittle shares with us how her father’s actions and the reaction from the church community deeply impacted her faith and relationship with the local church.

Lisa is the best-selling author of 9 books and several Bible studies, including Jesus Over Everything and The Hard Good. She is a sought-out Bible teacher for her wit and bold, bottom-line approach. She is the founder of online communities: Ministry Strong for ministry leaders and Called Creatives for writers and speakers, and host of the popular Jesus Over Everything podcast. She’s a wife, mom, lover of laughter, good food, and The Bible.

As we broke down a few points from Lisa’s article, How to Lose a Pastor in 10 Years, our prayer is that through this conversation we grow in compassion and grace. Our prayer is that we think twice next time we forward an article or respond to a text. May we be people that surround and support those in need of grace because of the overwhelming amount of grace our Father has given to us.

The Gospel of John is unlike the other gospels in so many ways. When studying it, it's easy to notice the different experiences John included, and also note all the things he didn't include in comparison to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Why is this the case? What approach did John take in writing this fourth and last of the Gospels? On today's show you'll hear Melissa Spoelstra and the [MARKED] podcast team discuss the writing of John and the importance of diving deep into the study of the gospel. [MARKED] is a podcast for women who are marked by a hunger for God's Word, a longing to impact culture, and a desire to discover and live out God's calling in their lives.

Melissa discusses the unique aspect and provides behind-the-scenes look at the writing and filming process of her Bible Study, The Gospel of John. Reflecting on how the Gospel of John has personally marked her, she encourages us all to experience the peace and hope that Jesus offers.

Hey friends! It's the sweet summer and we are bringing you new amazing episodes from the Lifeway Podcast Network! These episodes have specifically been chosen for YOU and we know you're going to love today's show with Kristi McLelland and the ladies from His Glory Her Good.

Last September, a team from Lifeway went to Israel with Krisi to record video teachings for her new bible study Luke in the Land. On today's show, Kristi shares what God taught her through all of that and challenges us to put our "yes" on the table and walk in obedience when God calls. We hope this episode encourages you to walk in surrender to a good and trustworthy God.

His Glory, Her Good was designed specifically for women serving in student ministry. Through this podcast, you’ll find two new friends who want to partner with you in student ministry, equip you in your calling, and encourage you to press on. Have you ever asked your spouse a simple question, like, "whats for dinner?" and all of a sudden they're making a snarky comment back to you? Have you ever found yourself responding out of irritation and frustration when your spouse or kids simply ask you a question? On today's show we're highlighting an episode from The Glass House Podcast where Nicole Zasowski describes to us what happens when we are operating in our pain cycle, how we can regulate our emotions, and why the simplest of questions can push us over the edge.

Any ministry leader and their families live in a "glass house" - an environment where they are left vulnerable to the stress of ministry, the criticism of others, and feel the spotlight on their personal weaknesses. Lifeway's "The Glass House" is a space where ministry leaders will shed light on the challenges they often don't feel permission to talk about.

Nicole Zasowski is a marriage and family therapist outside of New York City. She is an author of Lost to Found and What If It's Wonderful, along with being a full time mom and wife. She also has a Bible Study resource coming soon through Lifeway!

Why does it seem so hard to get it all together? Running kids around to get to their schedule activities, spending time with friends or your spouse, investing in your health, and the list can go on! It can be overwhelming figuring out how to keep it all together while we run around feeling overwhelmed and defeated. But maybe we're asking the wrong question. As a mom of three kids, one of my favorite things to do is hear from other moms what's working and not working for them. I love hearing about the rhythms, routines, and habits that different families have creatd and formed to help them build the home and family they desire to have. One of my favorite people to talk about this topic with is Lynley Mandrell.

Lynley is one of the most intentional and strategic people I know, so when it comes to habits and routines, she's the perfect person to talk to! In fact, Lynley cohosts The Glass House Podcast with her husband, Ben, and they have an entire episode on the topic of family values, rythyms, and routines!

Body positivity is a social movement that promotes a positive view of all bodies, regardless of the shape, size, weight, etc. But we want to take it deeper. Yes, we can accept our bodies the way they are to an extent, but we are here to talk about the fact that we also have a responsibility to our bodies. Today, Whitney Capps and I have a vulnerable conversation about our own unique journeys, the complexities of our bodies, the messages we tell ourselves about them, and how we function in them as temples of the Holy Spirit.

Go follow both of us on Instagram and share your thoughts on body positivity. Thanks for listening and sharing this episode with a friend!

We fill our days with so many things that aren't necessarily bad, but if we were honest with ourselves, they aren't things that are sanctifying us. Today, Whitney Capps and I discuss these things in our life and how we plan to remove or eliminate them from our daily life. Some of the things we're letting go of may surprise you, or you may think they're silly, but for us, these are the things that we know we need to let go of and allow God to fill that space with whatever He wants!

If you're honest with yourself, what 5 things do you need to limit or remove from your life to make more room for God?

Recently I found an extremely diverse study done over 100 years and the findings blew me away. Regardless of age, ethnicity, geographical location, and financial status, the happiest people were those who had the deepest and most intentional friendships. Immediately, I knew that this year I wanted to focus more on the friendships in my life to cultivate deeper and more meaningful relationships.

On today’s show one of my closest friends and Illuminator, Tiffani Casey, joins me to talk about this. You’ll hear how we met and became friends, the challenges we have both faced in make friends when moving to new places, and how hardships have bonded us to the friends in our life.

Throughout chapters in Psalms and other passages scattered through the Bible, we see people using their entire body to worship God. Whether it’s dancing undignified in the streets, wearing sackcloth and ashes, or falling on their face, we see the people of God have bodily responses to the Spirit of God. But even as we read about it, are we that comfortable, or are we that surrendered, to use our entire body for the worship of God? On today’s episode, Illuminator Tiffany Casey and I discuss this topic of whole body worship.

I hope this episode challenges you next time you’re in worship. I pray that we can all be filled with boldness for Christ to pour out our all, just as He did so graciously for us!

How do we define abundant, and if we define it the way Jesus does, are we looking in all the wrong places? Too often we surrender our hearts to God, but hold back the surrendering of our bodies. After a personal journey I’ve been on this year, I wanted to sit down with Alisa Keeton and talk about her book The Body Revelation. Alisa does a beautiful job at helping us see the temple our bodies are, how we listen to them, and how to care for them in obedience to God.

Alisa Keeton is a leading certified wellness professional with more than 20 years of experience. She is a wholehearted pursuer of God’s love, and is dedicated to educating and inspiring people to live healthy and whole lives in Christ. After more than 25 years as a fitness professional, Alisa felt God leading her to bring fresh meaning to the world of health and fitness. In 2011 Alisa launched Revelation Wellness, a nonprofit ministry that uses fitness as a tool to spread the gospel message and invites participants to become their whole selves, designed by God.

On today’s episode you’ll learn how our bodies store trauma, how we recognize those signs, and how we can practically work through that pain to release it. It’s always a joy to talk with Alisa and I hope you leave today feeling confident in how to care for your body as the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit that it is.

Summary:

Winging it is the art of doing something with little to no practice or preparation. While winging it can seem fun, spontaneous, and may even make you feel good about yourself in the moment, it inevitably leads to stress, chaos, and pride around what YOU can do and not what the Holy Spirit is doing. On today’s show, I sat down with Lisa Whittle and we talked about winging it versus working for it. Lisa and I dive into the sanctification and growth of trusting a process and doing due diligence in preparing for whatever God has called you to.

Lisa is the best-selling author of 9 books and several Bible studies, including Jesus Over Everything and The Hard Good. She is a sought-after Bible teacher for her wit and bold, bottom-line approach. She is the founder of online communities Ministry Strong for ministry leaders and Called Creatives for writers and speakers, and host of the popular Jesus Over Everything podcast. She’s a wife, mom, lover of laughter, good food, and The Bible, and a self-professed feisty work in progress.

When we look at scripture we see the carefully thought-out plans and purposes of God all throughout creation. Through the way He asked Noah to build the ark, Abraham to trust his promise, and David to trust his calling, God shows us that to look more like him is to trust his process and complete the work that is necessary. Join us on Instagram as we continue this discussion about winging it vs. working for it.

Today we’re entering into the final week of The Daily Shine and it’s not too late to join us on this journey! We’ve looked through scripture to explore the questions: Who is God? Who are we? What does this all mean for me? And now we look at the question: What is my purpose?

Today’s reading is Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Today’s reading is Ephesians 6:11-18

Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints…

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. Today’s reading is Deuteronomy 4:20-31 - But the Lord has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be a people of his own inheritance, as you are this day. Furthermore, the Lord was angry with me because of you, and he swore that I should not cross the Jordan, and that I should not enter the good Land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance. For I must die in this land; I must not go over the Jordan. But you shall go over and take possession of that good land. Take care, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make a carved image, the form of anything that the Lord your God has forbidden you. For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. When you father children and children’s children, and have grown old in the land, if you act corruptly by making a carved image in the form of anything, and by doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, so as to provoke him to anger, I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will soon utterly perish from the land that you are over the Jordan to possess. You will not live long in it, but will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord will drive you. And there you will serve gods of wood and stone, the work of human hands, that neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with your whole heart and with all your soul. When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and obey his voice. For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.

In this episode we talked about dreams, our relationship with dreams and goal setting. If you are like Jamie and I, you’ve got a love/hate relationship with goal setting. Listen in today as we share about how we feel about dreaming, goal setting, and ways you can find encouragement to dream bigger for yourself. We’re having a conversation today we’ve never had before on chatologie, and because of our topic, you probably want to listen to this episode without little ears listening. I’ve invited my new friends, Layton and Chelsea Boeve to share their story and journey with finding freedom from the effects of pornography on their dating life and marriage. If you know someone that is struggling with this form of addiction, please share this episode with them. I’m so excited that my friend, Heather MacFayden is back on chatologie today! Heather has just released her second book, Right Where You Belong. But the topic of our conversation is best described by the subtitle of the book, How To Identify And Fully Occupy Your God Given Space. Most of us have asked questions like, “Am I where I’m supposed to be? Am I doing what God wants me to do and are there choices for me?” Heather uses the tools she writes about to actually help me work through a decision in my life. My guest this week is Leslie Thompson and we’re discussing her book, Every Moment Holy.  Holy Week has arrived and as we head towards Easter weekend, so many of us are focusing on the holy moments that led Jesus to the cross and out of the grave to pay for our sin and defeat sin and death by His resurrection. This book is filled with written prayers and liturgies - habits and practices that form us, from the light-hearted experience to the very serious life moments.  This is an important conversation…and I’m glad you’re here for it.

We’re having a very important conversation today with the author of the new book, Starved, Amy Seiffert.  Amy takes the approach of physical starvation to help us understand what it is to fill our lives with spiritual junk food, like spending too much time scrolling and focusing on the comparison trap, clicking on headlines that cause fear, anxiety and exhaustion in our lives.  She helps us see how we can replace those bad habits with healthy practices.  In our current culture, this conversation is something we all need for a healthier and happier life as a believer…and I’m glad you’re here for it.

Happy New Year! I invited my friend Tiffani Casey to join me for this fun-filled episode we’re calling Happiness Hacks for 2023. Goal setting and resolutions aren’t always easy, and we often abandon them because we get overwhelmed and can't live up. So this year, we’re focusing on things that bring us happiness. If we live our life leaning in to the things that make us healthy and happy - spiritually, physically and emotionally - we just might find ourselves going through 2023 with much more joy in our lives. We’re getting closer to Christmas and this interview couldn’t have come at a better time. Today, I have a conversation with Drew Jackson, author of the new book of poems called God Speaks Through Wombs. As you’ll hear Drew and I chat, I’ve been thinking a lot about Mary and her role in the story of Immanuel coming to be with us. Drew’s poems are drawn from the gospel of Luke, who elevated the stories of women in his gospel. You’ll hear some profound statements about her and so much more on today’s episode of chatologie…and I’m so glad you are here for it!

I’m so excited to air this interview for you today. My friend, Jamie Ivey interviews Jonathan, a formerly sponsored child through Compassion International, each year, and I wanted you to hear just how amazing his story is as it continues. After Jamie’s conversation with Jonathan, you’ll hear my conversation with Dr. Yannely Suero, another former Compassion child who is now a pediatrician! Compassion International’s mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Today you’ll hear both Jonathan and Yannely talk about what happens when we say ‘yes’ to sponsoring a child, and how families and generations are changed forever through Compassion sponsorships. This is a great opportunity and conversation…and I’m glad you are here for it!

I’m so excited to air this interview for you at this time of year. Last year, as a part of the Simple Seminary community, we interviewed Kristi McLelland, a Biblical Studies professor at Willamson College in middle Tennessee, after her recent visit to Chicago to celebrate Hanukkah, The Festival of Lights, with a Jewish family. You guys, there is so much to learn about this celebration that actually happened during the inter-testamental period, between the happenings of the Old and New Testament. This conversation is filled with passion and will enlighten you to so much, not only about the tradition and practice of Hanukkah, but also about the significance of Jesus, The Light of the World that came to pierce the darkness. This is one of my favorite interviews of all time…and I’m so glad you are here for it.

I’m thrilled to welcome on today’s show licensed marriage and family therapist, writer, and speaker Nicole Zasowski. She lives in a small town just outside New York City with her husband, Jimmy and her son, James.  Nicole and I discuss how we can release our fears and have the courage to celebrate by asking the question, “What if the next steps in life, the next season, are truly wonderful?”  The timing of this conversation is much needed not only for me, but I know it will be for you…I’m so glad you’re here for it.

Hosanna Wong is an author, preacher, and spoken word artist on fire for Jesus and The Gospel. Her focus is evangelism and she shares The Good News through poetry, books, and sermons. In this episode, we talk about her book, How (Not) to Save the World. Many people told Hosanna her book on evangelism wouldn’t sell, but she pressed on to get it out into the world despite what kind of business decision it might be. She wants every life to be changed by Christ, and that is what fuels her writing and her daily life. And she wants Christians to know they don’t have to do something impressive to do something important. This episode encourages every believer to minister to the people right in front of them.

There are times that you just want to pinch yourself about a guest and an interview, and today is one of those times. We’re going all the way back to high school today, as I welcome my high school English teacher from Memphis, TN to the show today. This interview was so special, I invited Lainie to join me so we could both be a part of this conversation with this woman who impacted our lives so greatly during those formidable years. After all these years of writing, Shari finally wrote and published her first book. You’ll hear us talk about the good ole’ days, but you’ll also be encouraged by the wisdom that teaching high school English for 40 years, as well as being a pastor’s wife for all of that time has brought our dear Mrs. Ray. This is just a feel good conversation…and I’m so glad you are here for it.

I’m so excited to welcome back to chatologie today Amy Hannon of Euna Mae’s.  I have loved Amy’s first cookbook, Love, Welcome, Serve and cook recipes from it for my family all the time!  Amy, being the queen of hospitality, has written a new book, Gather and Give.  God didn’t suggest, but commanded us to be hospitable and love our neighbors. And unlike Amy’s first cookbook, this book is different and will really bless you with scriptural teaching about why we are to gather and give to others in community.  Listen in today to the most fun and funny conversation between two friends, and consider sharing this episdode with that friend you love to share great recipes with…and I’m so glad you’re here for it.

Remember to share this episode with a friend- it would mean the world to me!

I’m so excited to welcome Christie Thomas to chatologie today.  Christie has written a book called Fruit Full - 100 Family Experiences for Growing the Fruit of the Spirit. We talk about how Paul used the fruit we bear in our lives as evidence that Christ is active and working in us, but we also go all the way back - to the garden and discuss the origin of the tree and its very important meaning.  You are going to love this conversation and the journey we take across scripture as we discuss being good trees and bearing good fruit…and I’m so glad you’re here for it.

I’m so excited to welcome Dr. Juli Slattery, author of the book God, Sex and Your Marriage. We’ve never had an episode about sex on chatologie and as Dr. Slattery said, it is about time for this conversation. What was God’s design for creating us with the desire for sex? What was His plan for sex inside of our marriages? This conversation will shed some great light and insight on exactly what God intended when He created us. And for those of us raised in the Purity Culture, listen in to answer some of those haunting questions. What a conversation today…and I’m so glad you’re here for it.

I’m so excited to welcome Amanda Pittman to chatologie today!  I love it when you get to meet one of my new friends.  Amanda and I realized quickly that we have so much in common - in life, with music and our education.  We also jump into her new book, Stand in Confidence: From Sinking in Insecurity to Rising in Your God-Given Identity, which was released on September 6th.  Amanda has spent her adult life confronting our culture’s epidemic of insecurity and self-doubt. In this new book, she unpacks her own journey toward self-confidence rooted in Christ. She offers readers concrete tools for moving forward into wholeness, confidence and God-given purpose.  This is a fun and inspiring conversation…and I’m so glad you’re here for it.

Happy Birthday Chatologie! It’s hard to believe that a little dream five years ago to start a podcast has grown into over 200 conversations (thanks to bonus episodes)! Today we celebrate the 5th birthday of Chatologie with my very first guest, Lainie Thomas. Lainie and I have been friends for over 40 years and she is here today to discuss all things friendships. It is one of the most asked about topics by our women listeners. How do we make friends? How do we sustain friendships? How do we navigate complicated friendships? I’m so excited to welcome to Chatologie today, my new friend, podcaster, Bible teacher and author of her new book, How To Thrive As a Pastor’s Wife, Christine Hoover. You may be thinking, this show isn’t for me since I’m not a pastor’s wife, but if you have a pastor’s wife or serve in any capacity as a ministry leader, this show is for you! There aren’t many professions that overlap with the husband’s job like a pastor's wife does - even though it's not an actual profession! There are many nuances that women in ministry face, so this show will be super helpful to all of us who serve in that capacity. Lean in to this conversation today…and I’m so glad you're here for it.

As you listen in to today’s conversation, perhaps someone will come to mind who you feel needs to hear this message. I pray you’ll find a way to share it with them. I’m thrilled to welcome back to Chatologie my friend, singer, worship leader and author of her first book, Stubborn Obedience, Holly Knight. Holly is my real life friend and I got a front row seat to her journey of obedience with Christ to go to Uganda and adopt 2 of her children. And I was privileged and blessed when Holly asked me to write the forward for her book because of my own adoption story. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat! We talk about some of this, as well as about how Jesus himself was obedient to follow God, all the way to cross, and even those who surrounded him on that day suffered because of His obedience. What a beautiful and timely conversation as we head into Holy Week. I know this interview is going to bless you today…and I’m so glad you’re here for it. *Trigger warning: We discuss sexual assault in The Church and Bill Hbyels and Willow Creek Church in Chicago.

Scot McKnight is a theologian, an author, and a professor at Northern Seminary in Chicago. On this episode of Chicago, we talk about his book A Church Called Tov: Forming a Goodness Culture That Resists Abuses of Power and Promotes Healing. Scott is desperate for the church to be “tov” (good) and a place for people to thrive. He uses his studies of The Bible to help others go deeper in their Christian walk. We discuss narcissism in The Church and why it is so important to share the pulpit and share platforms to destroy pride and ego. Scot knows churches can be “tov” and we have the power of The Holy Spirit within us to fight against abuse and form a culture of goodness among God’s people.

On this episode of Chatologie, we talk with Katie Orr, who has been on the show many times before. She is an author, speaker, and pastor’s wife, and she is passionate about serving the local church alongside her husband. Katie and her husband Chris lead Grand Island Baptist Church in Florida. Katie believes every believer should be a member of a church and every church member should be serving. She opens up about depression as a mom and what it looks like to navigate mental health as a pastor’s wife. Katie reminds us to go where there’s a need and serve, and she is beautifully honest about her role in supporting her husband.

On today’s show, we are welcoming Ben and Lynley Mandrell. Ben is the president and CEO of Lifeway Christian Resources and is starting a brand new podcast called the Glass House that Angie is producing. Ben, Lynley, and Angie explore struggles for ministry leaders and what it means to be vulnerable and rise above extreme criticism. Since we are all called to be ministers in our own spheres of influence, this episode is a must-listen for every person in a place of leadership. They also chat about difficulty with marriage for pastors and how counseling makes a major difference.

Quotes from the show:

“Being engaged with The Holy Spirit and reading scripture and being in relationship with healthy Christians is important, because those metrics that we place upon ourselves are seldom fair or even biblical… It’s culturally-created metrics that we’ve put up there that we’re comparing ourselves against.”
