Title: On the Run Part 1
In Gotham, Batgirl Cassandra Cain is investigating an apartment crime scene littered with clues. She bumps into Batman who agrees the crime scene belongs to the Birds of Prey.
Back at the Birds’ Headquarters, Oracle attempts to go through all the evidence. The group knows this is all a trap of some sort but there needs to be several in person investigations to solve what has happened and how it relates to a stolen experimental drug. They split up.
That night in Gotham, Sin and Batgirl are on a stakeout. Sin is excited and apologizes for being a lot to put up with. Batgirl reassures her. They are a lot alike, trained to be weapons, bad people always want them. However they both are different inside and it’s good. Sin gives her a hug.
Meanwhile, Barda drops off Dinah in Tokyo. She makes her way down from the roof into a large theater where a demonstration of a new invisibility suit is underway. Dinah is shocked at how effective it is, Oracle calls it an industry game changer.
Barda has boom tubed into United Arab Emirates and a small town that appears deserted. She investigates a strange nearby skyscraper. Although it has power, it too is empty. After getting into the penthouse she hears someone from the air ducts call out to her.
Back in Gotham, Sin and Bargirl are curious when their target leaves a club only to descend into the sewers. They carefully follow.
Barda reaches up to the grate of the air duct when tendrils of black slice down upon her. She drops her Megarod. The inky creature quickly heads for it. The room tilts as an alarm sounds. Barda’s Megarod falls out the window with the ink creature. It grabs it and turns into a woman with glider wings. Barda is too busy to notice as the entire penthouse is launched into space.
Oracle is trying to get feedback from Black Canary as Barda’s intermittent communicator signal comes through. Oracle tells Barda all the Birds are under attack. Barda says she’s in space, right before she discovers a bomb's onboard. It goes off with a huge boom and the ship explodes.
Oracle frantically announces: “All Teams. This is a code black. Barda is down. I repeat, code black. Barda is down”. Elsewhere a shadowy figures looks at pictures of the Birds saying “one down, four to go.”

So Much To Learn, If She Is To Survive
Helena awakens in a cabin in Canada where a man introducing himself as Richard Dragon offers her tea and is repairing her Huntress costume. He says The Butterfly brought her to him. We can only assume he means the Question, who after all is the one that kicked her in the head last issue. Helena gets frustrated and threatens Richard before Vic Sage comes in. He comments that Helena’s anger is like looking in a mirror.
“We’ve come to know the world through violence and rage. We wear masks to hide from ourselves as much as others.” Then he reveals he is the Question and formally introduces himself to her. She quietly does the same.
Meanwhile in Gotham, Tim Drake/Robin is meeting with Barbara Gordon aka Oracle. Tim doesn’t believe the Huntress is the killer; it’s too sloppy and she’s too smart for this. Barbara is skeptical but Tim insists they have to learn the truth.
Back at the cabin, Vic explains that Richard can teach Helena how to live, not just how to not die. Vic understands how isolated Helena is and that if she returns to Gotham now, she’ll soon be dead or be forced to kill. Leaving her to think, Vic tells Richard he’s returning to Gotham - he’s got some questions.
In Gotham, Tim returns to Barbara with newspaper clippings from Helena’s past. They acknowledge that while Helena and Bruce both lost their parents at 8, in Helena’s case all the Bertinelli’s in the city were systematically eliminated, whether they were in the mafia or not. The real question is why and why Helena was left alive.
Helena is doing Tai Chi with Richard. He explains, “Passion and rage as fuel. Fear and vengeance as destination. And the faster you move, the more your past drags at you, the more of you that breaks away.” She needs to remember to breathe.
As Helena trains she acknowledges to herself that she lost her breath long ago, She’s been running scared her whole life, trampling anyone or anything that gets in her way. But blood cries for blood and her family’s is calling for her. How dare she refuse that?
Later inspecting her costume, she tells Richard how the Huntress scares her. He says she should, that Huntress is a killer. But also that Helena no longer needs to don the mask, to be someone else. She already is the Huntress.
Vic finally returns to take Helena back to Gotham. She seems calmer and more at peace. As the two walk down the mountain, Vic lets her know he stopped by Helena’s apartment to help out with bills and chores and noticed it’s being watched. She’s not surprised.
As they sit at a little town’s bus stop, Vic asks her to tell the story of how she became the Huntress. Helena says: “It started in Sicily…”

Title: Divide and Conquer Part 2
At the Lake House, Dinah and Sin’s trap has succeeded and their stalkers attack. A huge fight ensues with Oracle supplying help via drones. But when Dinah moves in front of the window, she’s hit by a sniper’s bullet.
Meanwhile in the magical streets of The Seam, Big Barda continues her battle with the golems. She smashes them only for them to reform. No problem. She opens a boom tube to the moon and hits or tosses them through. She grabs their controller, Barter, and threatens to do the same to him unless he tells her how many others are after Batgirl and Constantine.
Elsewhere in The Seam, the demon controlled Constantine continues it’s attempt to get Batgirl to free it from it’s bonds. Needless to say she’s not even tempted. When the final golems attack, Batgirl smashes them then separates the parts by tossing them in various stores and barrels along the road.
Back at the Lake House, Sin loses it when Dinah is shot at goes full Megaera, with green light blasting out of her and tendrils all doing their thing. She, or is it they, float out of the roof and threaten the League of Shadows, or whatever splinter cell this is, that they better gather their fallen and leave or she will take them apart. She further threatens to end them if she ever sees them again.
Afterward Sin returns to care for Dinah. Dinah is worried if the being who just threatened the attackers was Sin or all Megaera. Sin isn’t sure and Dinah reassures her they will find someone who can help.
Back in The Seam, Batgirl and the demon infested Constantine reach the portal where the demon must be deposited. She rebuffs it again and is about to toss it in when Barda arrives to kick it through. A few moments later, the freed Constantine returns to the street.
Dinah and Sin settle down to watch the sun rise at the Lake House. Sin expresses another concern. Some of the League of Shadows assassins she threatened appeared to be happy. She’s possibly given them something new to covet: Megaera.
Feathers and Foes is back to talk Black Canary. Dinah whips her band into shape, preparing them for hand to hand combat and more for whatever is coming for them

And Now … She Can Not Be Forgiven
After paying her respects at her cousin Claudio’s wake, Helena was forced to screech to a halt as The Question was standing in the road. She gets out to confront him. He tells her the story of a man dreaming he’s a butterfly that suddenly thinks perhaps he is a butterfly dreaming he’s a man. Helena is not impressed and drives off.
The next morning Helena heads out from her apartment to the school where she teaches. On the way she sees a sensationalized article linking the Huntress to mob killings. Helena thinks the reporter, Karen Frazier, must be mobbed up herself to write such a story. But Helena is disturbed by the article in another way. If the cops really are after the Huntress, there is the possibility Batman will reveal her identity to them. Then the ruling families of Gotham really will come for her blood.
Meanwhile, Nightwing is talking with Oracle. He believes Helena did not kill her cousin despite one of the Huntress’ crossbow bolts sticking out of his chest. Oracle is not so sure and isn’t happy when he says he’ll be talking to the Huntress.
In an elegant house, Mario Cassamento, son to the mobster Santa Cassamento, and Vinnie joke around about seeing Helena the night before and how they’d like to get her out of her coat and into a warm bath. Mario’s father proceeds to hit him in the head with a rolled up newspaper before storming out.
That evening Nightwing pays Helena a visit at her apartment. He wants to offer his help but Helena isn’t impressed. She still resents how she was manipulated by Batman during No Man’s Land and isn’t interested in Nightwing’s help.
Later that night dressed as the Huntress she visits the apartment of the reporter and finds her dead with two of the Huntress’ crossbow bolts in her chest. The crime must have happened recently but a pounding on the door surprises Huntress. It’s the cops. As she heads out the window, she can see plenty of cop cars below.
She makes her way onto the roof only to find Batman and Nightwing waiting for her. Batman insists she is coming with him and it’s not a choice. Instead of complying she tries to escape. But in the scuffle she accidently shoots Batman with her crossbow. Incensed, Nightwing comes for her full out. Her only chance of escape is to jump off the highrise roof into the Gotham harbor below.
The fall nearly kills her but who is there to help drag her out of the water but The Question. He says she no longer has any friends in Gotham except for him and he has someone he wants her to meet. Collapsed on the dock, Huntress pitifully ties to be defiant, saying she won’t go anywhere while she can still fight. So The Question kicks her in the head.
The Birds of Prey are in a new story arc, where a group of evil doers are coming after sin, and we can't have that, now can we? And Batgirl and Big Barda are on another plot line involving Constatine. Will Black Canary and Sin be able to survive the ambush in the woods? Title: The Most Dangerous Band in America
Dinah, now calling herself by the initials D.D., has joined a band called Black Canary as their lead singer. The group includes a quasi-manager named Heathcliff, a drummer and all around musician called Lord Byron, a keyboard player named Paloma, and a young mute girl they call Ditto as guitartist.
Unfortunately the Black Canary shows are ending in violence, with Dinah in various fights. One newszine example sites Dinah fighting a group of gunmen. Needless to say, venues are starting to doubt the wisdom of booking the band.
Backstage at the next stop Dinah hesitates, contemplating her bandaged fingers, the tears in her fishnets for a band-aids. However she puts on her boots and strides out on stage.
After the show, Heathcliff tries to get their payment but once again, Dinah has been in a fight, this time with a group of men harassing some women. The venue owner is unhappy, but after spotting Dinah waiting behind her manager, he forks over the money.
On the tour bus en route to their next stop, Lord Byron talks things over with Dinah. Byron tells her how much the record contract they recently signed means to them but that Dinah’s actions risk giving the band a bad name. Plus Byron worries young Ditto couldn’t defend herself if the violence should reach the rest of the band. Dinah is a mystery to her band as well as the public but now Byron asks Dinah to come clean.
Dinah admits she’s lived hard but makes a commitment to end the problems she’s caused. Byron is thrilled when Dinah mentions her Sensei and even more excited when Dinah asks for help with her on stage moves.
As the band unpacks at the next stop, a mysterious group of three suited individuals watch, talking about finding their target.
At the sound check, Dinah marvels at the sounds Ditto can evoke from her guitar without help from pedals or electronics.
Backstage before the concert Dinah talks to Heathcliff. He wants to know if this, performing, is really what she wants. Dinah explains she will finish the contract they signed. The money will help rebuild her life, her dojo, her team. Heathcliff asks again if she likes performing. She doesn’t answer, instead stepping out on stage.
Things are going well until Dinah spots the three suited individuals in the crowd. The three transform into inky humanoid alien things. As everyone takes cover, Dinah swings into action, eventually resorting to her Canary Cry to bring the roof down on top of the creatures. Dinah thinks they’re after her, but their ranting make it clear they’re actually after Ditto. The three alien things disappear through the hole in the ceiling.
The band gathers and at first Dinah wants them to disperse while she protects Ditto alone. The band wants to stay together. Dinah says if they are going to do that then they need training, hand to hand first then weapons after that. The rest of the band is a bit stunned.
As the bus travels to the next city, the group has no idea that the three ink humanoid creatures are hanging onto the back of the bus.
The Huntress Podcast is back in 2025 to talk about Helena Bertinelli in Cry For Blood, written by Greg Rucka and brillantly penciled by Rick Burchett. Issue one begins with a murder mystery where the mob, The Batman and some "in the know" Gumshoe are pointing their "you're the culprit" finger in Helena Bertinelli's direction.

Title: Bird Undercover Part 3
Cassandra Cain’s undercover mission into The Ninth Day Corporation has landed her in a secret sub-basement labyrinth facing Bella, a mutated woman who is now a dog like werewolf creature. However, after Cass uses a brick to break Bella’s electronic collar, the beast becomes a friend.
Cass uses Bella to trick her way into the guard’s chamber. She takes some of the guard’s equipment before climbing up the elevator cable and back into the ventilation ducts. She sees a woman about to be injected with a green substance and crashes into the room. She frees the woman who flees into the air duct.
Cass now finds herself facing Xane, Jens, and Chet again. She sees that Xane is still wearing her secret communication bracelet. She uses a smoke grenade to distract him as she presses something to activate the bracelet. Except this has given one of the others time to hit her in the back with the syringe.
Meanwhile at the Birds Headquarters, the other Birds have been anxiously awaiting word from Cass since she missed the last two check in times. Oracle is finally able to translate the message Cass send before her initial capture and the group sets out through one of Barda’s boom tubes into the basement lab of the Ninth Day Corporation.
As the scientists flee, gas is released and the Birds done their gas masks. They’re then confronted by 4 grotesquely muscled mutated women. Black Canary, Big Barda, Onyx, and Grace take them out. However, as Black Canary uses a device to allow Oracle access into the computer she sees a sight that horrifies them: a grotesquely muscled mutated Cassandra Cain.

Things have gone sideways in the Birds of Prey's investigation of the Ninth Day cult, and the Birds' undercover operative, Cassandra Cain, has gone deathly silent. As the other members wait on Cassandra's signal, they go a little bunkers, which is rather frustrating for Black Canary, who is usually the field agent. 28 – The Wings of Truth
Welcome to Gothtopia! Gotham City, America’s safest city, America’s happiest city. Huh?
We the reader realize this is a new reality but the Birds don’t realize they have been transformed. They now wear white uniforms and new code names. Batgirl is now Bluebelle. Strix is Artemis. Condor is Eagle. And Black Canary is known as Warbler. Together they are the Wings of Truth.
At a display of the many flying blimps of the city, Bluebelle, Artemis, and Eagle are joined by Warbler on her motorcycle. The four head to a children’s charity event at the circus where they perform for the kids. Later at their headquarters, movie night is interrupted by word that Batman has gone berserk.
The Wings of Truth head toward the fight to capture Batman where they learn Batman thinks everything they’re seeing is a lie. Not to worry, says Dr. Crane. Batman will be taken to the Crane Center for Health and Wellness where he will be well cared for.
The Wings of Truth take up the slack of superheroing in Gotham until Batman attempts to break out of the Crane Center along with Poison Ivy. The team joins the other heroes and a fight, of course, breaks out. Ivy tries to tell Warbler they need to wake up, can’t they see they’re filled with poison.
Bluebelle reassures the others Batman is under control and she will stay while the other three return to HQ. They are asleep on the couches when someone sprays a gas into Warbler’s face. She awakens confused. When her head clears she can now see the crappy apartment they are sleeping in and realizes who they really are. She is Black Canary once more.
She is greeted by Ra’s al Ghul who explains the entire city has been dosed with a chemical by the Dr. Crane, aka the Scarecrow. Ra’s has awakened Black Canary to tempt her with a vial containing a tiny iota of the Lazarus Pit, the source of his regeneration. It is a sample to prove he can save her husband Kurt if she is willing to betray Mother Eve.
After Ra’s leaves, Black Canary tricks Condor and Strix into a speedboat. When they are far enough away from the city, the others regain their minds. However Black Canary can’t return for Batgirl. The antidote she was given is no longer working.
Batgirl finally makes her way back to the barge. She wants to know how Black Canary was in Gotham after she refused to leave Kurt’s side. Black Canary explains she realized she’d made a mistake turning her back on the team and headed into Gotham to join them only to come under the spell of Scarecrow’s drug.
Batgirl then confronts Black Canary over her lack of leadership since Kurt’s return. Black Canary agrees and asks Batgirl to lead instead. Batgirl hesitates, she has her own life to deal with, but finally agrees.
Later by Kurt’s bedside, Black Canary struggles over what to do with the vial. She told everyone she was temporarily cured by Poison Ivy instead of Ra’s, hiding the fact she may be making a deal with the devil.

29 – The Eve of Battle
Condor is upset that the discovery of Black Canary’s comatose husband Kurt has put a damper in his own relationship with Black Canary. He hears her screaming in pain as bad news about Kurt’s condition has reached a crisis point.
Uplink sees Condor in the hallway and tells him about trying to teach Strix to read on a tablet. On the last one Strix scratched out Gone Find Batgirl then disappeared. Condor heads to Gotham to look for both women.
Black Canary returns to Kurt’s side. After the removal of the nodes in his head, Kurt is in a permanent vegetative state. Black Canary decides to secretly give him the vial of Lazarus Pit essence that Ra’s al Ghul tempted her with last issue. Miraculously Kurt starts asking for water. Black Canary now knows Ra’s could cure Kurt as long as she’s willing to betray Mother Eve.
Hearing about Kurt’s miraculous turn around, Mother Eve knows Black Canary is likely compromised but has made a decision to trust her regardless. She checks in with her staff. Ra’s ships are on their way.
Meanwhile Condor is contacted in the city by a drone projection of Ra’s al Ghul. He tempts Condor with a bargain: let Ra’s reach Mother Eve and in exchange Ra’s will have Kurt killed. Condor says it must happen at the beginning of the battle and then they’ll have a deal.
As Ra’s ship nears Mother Eve’s, both sides prepare for the coming battle, it will be a fight with sword and fist.
Mother Eve heads to the regeneration chamber where she will be helpless during Ra’s attack. She says it must be Black Canary that guards her door. Batgirl and the others remain on deck with Mother Eve’s forces. The regeneration of Mother Eve begins just as the first wave of Ra’s assault reaches them.

In Megadeath 2, Black Canary's "ad hoc" team has accepted their mission to go on a hopefully clandestine operation, entering Themyscira, rescuing Black Canary's sister, Sin, and exiting the premises without having a showdown with an Amazon.
If it doesn't sound easy, it isn't. Even Zealot, a fierce warrior, wants no part in killing Amazons. Dinah reassures everyone that no one is killing Amazons. After the meeting is adjourned, the Birds of Prey disperse in different directions to carry out the mission, yet somehow dovetailing back as a unit in an incredible fight scene pencilled by Leonardo Romero. Shady Magicians and Talking Sharks are just the tip of the Spear when it comes to the fun that is Birds of Prey 2: Megadeath 2.

Writer Kelly Thompson brings the pain with issue 1 of Birds of Prey: Megadeath Part 1. Her debut to Birds of Prey and DC Comics all together is spectacular. Characters are well defined enough to help you understand who they are or make you intrigue enough to make you want to come back. Artist Leonardo Romero's pencil work breaths life and light to each one of these heroes, displaying the most nuance countenances that can only be described as master class. Feathers and Foes are at a crossroads as far as covering this issue. And really, covering issues 1 - 3, Mark, A.J. and Laurel are excited about talking about our favorite heroes again, but some of the choices narrative wise has been a challenged. One thing we all agreed on, sort of, is the intense nature of the threat in the story.
Identities outed, framing, kidnapping, mental games, betrayel.

Tim and A.J. talk the where abouts and appearances of Cassandra Cain in the Red Robin 17. Tim makes an effort to elicit Cassandra in becoming one of the Bat Family again....she entertains the idea, not completely ruling it out, but she is still on the quest to finding herself...getting in where she fits in.
In Batman 618, the penultimate issue, things are getting murky, personal and demented. Literary imagery throughout, old foes, mystery and betrayal aboot. Batman is quite at his wit's end.
Tim, AJ, and Sara discuss Batman and the Outsiders #21 from 1985, a very special issue featuring 3 solo stories for Katana, Geo-Force, and Black Lightning.
Each one-and-done story was written by Mike W Barr, colored by Adrienne Roy, and with a different art team for each story, notably Jerome K Moore, Trevor Von Eeden, and Ron Randall. There's a lot of fun things to say about these short stories!

Mark, Laurel and A.J. talk creepy nursery rhymes, manipulating lovers, and morbid returns in Batman 617. Feathers and Foes are still harping over the wonderful Jim Lee art with Scott Williams' inks. F&F are just not happy with the way Batman handled the Catwoman situation.
In the Wonder Woman issue 274 backup, there is the Huntress story where Helena Wayne has to juggle her friendship, dating life, day job, and heroics...how does she do it? With style. Not only do we get a cool appearance from Power Girl, but we also have an old school villain, Thinker, who will test not only the plot of the story, but perhaps the strength of Helena and Harry's relationship.

Helena Bertinelli, daughter of a mafia Don, is now living in Gotham as a teacher, while being pulled back into one of her former jobs as The Huntress. She joins forces with Batman to take down some bad guys while making a tough decision that upsets Batman. But of course, we love Helena for her detective skills, fierceness, and determination to do what is right.

Raise to read body language to predict moves in fighting, Cassandra Cain in the early 2000's became one of the deadliest, if not THE deadliest fighters in all of DC Comics. Now, as Cass is growing into a young lady, she is beginning to read the Body Language of Romance...and we don't mean Latin.
Batman's deceits come to a halt, as Batgirl figures out she is just a pawn in Batman's war, but that is not the only thing Cassandra Cain has figured out. Our favorite Dynamic Duo, Batgirl and Spoiler, team up again, against Batman's wishes, for fun, shared histories, and a night on the town. Although Cassandra Cain spent time with her friend, Stephanie Brown, the partnership was rather conditional. At the end of Season 1 of the Huntress Podcast, we are covering Justice League International Special #2: The Huntress, where some of the loose ends to Helena Bertinelli's story is tied up. We say an unexpected farewell to artist Damian Scott and writer Kelley Puckett. Well, not that unexpected...it is 2019, the book came out in 2003, but because we don't read ahead, and the memory cheats, this shocking end to this beautiful marriage of a creative team is...interrupted. Cass has to make some hard decisions, father daughter issues, and wonderful art are all in this book.

Keanu Reaves as John Wick has nothing on Alpha, a potential foe of Cassandra Cain and all of Gotham. Will out favorite detective, Batgirl be able to save the citizens of Gotham? Listen to Ashford and Tim discuss volume 1 issue 36. www.thehuntresspodcast.com
Who is Alpha? Batgirl is trying to find out, which she is taking great pride in, being a new detective and all. Batman and Oracle sends Cassandra Cain out to stop a shipment into Gotham, which Batgirl believes is sending her away from the direction of the case, but is actually directing her straight towards the bull's eye! The only problem...the Bull has amnesia. Let the spy/gangster/on the run story begin.
Justice League America...without the "of". Yes, that lot. The Huntress appeared in two of the issues, 30 and 31. Join us in discussing Huntress's tales with other DC heroes.
Ashford and Tim discuss Lesson One, a story where Batgirl learns even more about the dark world of crime fighting, which is being the detective to solve these mysteries. Cass is a true pro. Write to us at www.thehuntresspodcast.com

The Fab Four, Batgirl, Spoiler, Tim Drake, and Green Arrow, crashes the pseudo 9th Legion's party to save Eddie Fiers from being Crucified, and we don't mean that figuratively. Check out the stunning conclusion of this three part story arc by guest writer Chuck Dixon.
The Huntress Podcast discuss the second saga of this abrupt Batman appearance. We have a triangle going in "Rage Under Pressure". Batman, Huntress, and James, each have suffered the brutal loss of a parent. These three unlikely characters come together in the penultimate story...sort of, of volume 1 of the Huntress.
The Huntress is trying to stop, or quell an all out turf world in her New York territory, so she might have to rough up the Batman in order to maintain the peace in her neighborhood, no matter if she has to allow strange bed fellows in her orbit or not.
Batgirl and Conner Hawke, the Green Arrow, put down the fists and pick up the team-up to take on the threat that is attacking Gotham's elite. And if this pairing wasn't enough for you, writer Chuck Dixon throws in one of the most endearing pairings of all of DC Comics, Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake, which is awesome, for now we can get more Stephanie/Cass time! Visit our website at www.thehuntresspodcast.com
Again, the Huntress is fighting a war on multiple fronts, some internally, and a number of them are externally. She has been through many trails; however, that doesn't stop the fire. Things are heating up and simmering in issue 16 of The Huntress.
A new vigilante is in the neighborhood, and Helena doesn't know whether she should take this as an inspiring compliment, or a sign of disrespect. This new guy, The Waterfront Warrior, is hogging all the spotlight. And although The Huntress likes to move in the dark, she can't help but be a little ticked off that her work is not getting recognized.
Wealthy, influential elites around Gotham are fatally taken out by a mystery assassin...in broad daylight! Batman is not in town, for Bruce Wayne was jailed for murder, and now he is a fugitive! Never fear, Gotham is still protected by...The Green Arrow??? Connner Hawke edition.
The Dynamic Duo, Batwing and Robin...I mean Nightwing team up to solve the case: Who murdered Vesper Fairchild?
Helena Bertinelli moves into a new rent controlled apartment in an at risk part of town, keeping her low profile while trying to figure out who she, Helena Bertinelli, really is. Meanwhile, we have an early 90's shock talk show host, a mobster with ambitions of exploitation of the masses, and a potential all out gang/race war.

Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown make such a good pairing. Unfortunately, the two must part ways for personal reasons. Also, some mystery man is keeping tabs on Batgirl, which is not looking good for our hero going forward.
Please write to us at our website www.thehuntresspodcast.com. We would love to know what you think.
After 12 issues of the Huntress, the Baker's dozen story works like an epilogue; however, the narrative isn't just frolicking around. Helena is faced with the demons of her past, being a hero in the present, and having to bring dark justice to those in the future. Helena Bertinelli is the Huntress, a character DC must recognize as quite valuable.
In Batgirl #27, our hero Cassandra Cain is back in top form fashion, solving cases and fracturing faces. In this fun book about a dark topic, we get guest appearances from Robin, Nightwing, Oracle, and the Spoiler. Although this is apart of a huge crossover event, the Wright On Network is proud that Cass is apart of it, for this story actually plays a pivotal role in restoring faith in Batman to the Bat-Family.

Laurel and Ashford discuss the 10th issue of Volume 1, The Huntress. Our hero, Helena Bertinelli, aka, the Huntress, is trying to stop the so-called Book Worm, a creepy-creep with the mind of a genius, who has a deep resentment against woman and who is seeking to ruin the lives of people to gain power. High plotting and drama are beginning to form in the second story arc in Helena Bertinelli history.
Batgirl is recovering from her fatal/unfatal battle with Lady Shiva. Now Stephanie Brown, the Spoiler, must fight a battle in Cassandra Cain's stead. Has Spoiler bitten off more than she can chew. Check out episode 30 of the Cassandra Cain podcast.

Such a chilling cover, displaying the height of the crack epidemic, destroying the fabric of a lot of major American cities in the late 80s to early 90s. The creative team depicts these stories quite well in the pages of this DC book. Ashford and Laurel recommend pick this book up, for Joey Cavaleri really delivers as far as the narrative is concerned. And for the art, capturing the grittiness of the era and city, yet, without glorifying nor being nostalgic in a misguided way, Joe Staton's art is on target.
Laurel and Ashford discuss an up and coming foe in the early run of the Huntress. Both Ashford and Laurel believe that this issue is a must read. We may have a formidable foe on our hands.

Finally, Laurel and Ashford discuss the conclusion between the inevitable showdown between Cassandra Cain and Lady Shiva, top flight assassin. Someone has to die, and spoiler, someone did. Give us a listen and write to us on Twitter @FeathersandFoes or e-mail us at feathersandfoes@gmail.com please.
Huntress, swinging out of her first story arc, is thinking about retiring the cape and cowl, living the square life in the big city. Unfortunately, because of the gritty violence in the Big Apple, Helena Bertinelli, once a victim herself, refuses to be the prey of anyone. And she definitely loathes any predators preying on those who can not defend themselves. Give episode 7 a listen with Ashford and Laurel.
Crossover time! This story is about the big event in the Bat Universe: Bruce Wayne Murderer? Cassandra Cain is a field agent for the Oracle, and you will not believe what she discovers!
Laurel gives her analysis of this cool, stylistic issue.
Laurel and Ashford discuss The Silence is Broken, which is the final issue of this six part story arc. After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, The Huntress is born. And she is not crawling; Helena is indeed soaring as if she was fired out of a cannon into the sky, where we all can look up to her like the Star that she is.
The penultimate issue to the first Helena Bertinelli story arc ever! Everything changes?
Laurel discusses Batgirl #23 where she discusses the dread surrounding Cassandra Cain, for she will eventually have to face LADY SHIVA!
Laurel and Ashford discuss issue 4 of the The Huntress, where rival street gangs spare off with The Huntress and civilians caught in the middle. Although this book displays our hero in great fashion, there are a lot of disturbing themes and imagery in the book, so please keep this in mind when reading the material.
Laurel and Ashford discuss issue 3 of the Huntress. This story is called Plaster Saints. You want to hear this episode. A lot of creepiness, suspense, kick-butting, and of course, the Huntress.
Laurel and Ashford discuss Justice League America 26 and The Huntress issue 2. Justice League America 26, Huntress's second official appearance, was fun to talk about, but Huntress #2 is filled with violence, drama, and action. Write to us at feathersandfoes@gmail.com for feedback.
Batgirl is dealing with a battle on two fronts, her Batgirl duties and her problematic father. Being a teenager in the Batman Family army can take a toll.
Laurel, Sarah, and Ashford discuss the 1st issue of Helena Bertinelli's Huntress! Released back in February 1989, this comic pulls no punches, crosses the line several times, and has a lot of exposition and action packed in one issue. Tell us what you think.
New Huntress Podcast coming to you in 2019! Laurel, Sarah, and Ashford are your hosts. Join us as we take it back to 1989! This promo is a sample of what you will hear in the Helena Bertinelli journey.
Cassandra Cain is caught in a Joker's Tie-In story, where the Joker has created chaos, releasing criminals from prison while injecting them with Joker "stuff". Batgirl takes on one of the escape inmates, the Shadow Thief. Will she be able to withstand his intangibility and Thanagarian Tech? With the help of the Spoiler and The Orace, you betcha!
It is quite difficult not to write in all caps: Team Up, but I so want to do this. Ashford and Diane discuss issue 20 of Batgirl, where Spoiler helps the Dark Crusader in a not memorable crime story, but the scenes between Spoiler and The Batgirl are pricesless. Guest writer Chuck Dixon joins us for this episode.
Haunted by her past, Cassandra Cain tries to bust a dude out of a gas chamber from a federal prison, for she believes people can change and redeem themselves. Even if that is true, Cass learns a hard truth that forgiveness and redemption doesn't mean forgetting. Write to us at feathesandfoes@gmail.com
Batgirl and Robin team up to take down a common foe. Robin is somewhat apprehensive about teaming up with a former trained assassin, but she is Bat-Family! Also, we learn more about Cassandra's character as far as a combat weakness for her, but would actual be normal for us.
Kelly Puckett and Damion Scott pack so much punch is this single issue story like always. Ashford and Laurel discuss this fantastic issue. Original theme song by Mya Briones. Check her out under the same name on the social networks. Closing music provided by Merc Bandwidth. Check out his new album on Spotify. He does a lot of music for the Wright On Network.
Kelley Puckett, Damion Scott, and Robert Campanella provide another good single issue comic. Ashford and Laurel discuss issue 17, where Batgirl is encouraged by Barbara Gordon the need to retrieve her facial identity back, so she can have a personal life.
Write to us at feathersandfoes@gmail.com
Cassandra Cain comes to the rescue like she does; however, the damage is something that is a problem that happened long before this moment as well as after. Tim, a young child who is asking for Batgirl's help, is the son of a really bad dude. Kelly Puckett, Damian Scott, and Mike Campanella gives us a perfect story with a sad ending.
Pick up this book to see some bone crushing action sequences, coupled with poignant expressions on most of the cast of characters.
Write to us at feathersandfoes@gmail.com
Issue 15 is beautifully illustrated, but just so chilling. Batgirl is put to the test once again. Can nurture out program nature? This is not a quick fix. This will take time. Batgirl will struggle with this as she is faced with an inner battle while trying to save victims in Gotham.
Cassandra Cain reached out to help a good man in a shady profession, for he displayed an act of kindness to a child whom was in harm's way. Cass recognized this and wanted to save the man from sudden death by spiriting him away from his governmental captors with no Bat suit, leaving her identity exposed. Good thing for Cassandra, she doesn't have an identity; however, facial recognition is still on the table, which leads Batman in rewarding Cass by giving the Daughter of Cain her own place to rest her head.
Issue 13 of Batgirl not only starts off with a BANG, much like the cover, but it also has heart, hope, and heroism. Cassandra Cain doesn't even don the Bat suit in this issue, but don't worry. Cass is as awesome as ever. And let us talk about Damion Scott's pencils. Yes, Puckett captures Cass's voice, and yes, she is speaking now, but Damion Scott really gives life to this character and the landscape around her. The story moves so fast because it is action packed, but not in a cheat type way. Write to me at feathersandfoes@gmail.com about what you think of this issue. We Cassandra Cain lovers need to stick together.

Ripped out of today's headlines, Diane and Ashford discuss the major issue going on in this book and in the world today, violence against women. When a man is fired from his job, he feels rejected and powerless. To regain control, he tried to gain his power back. Once he feels like this is not a reality for him, he proceeds on ignoring boundaries by stalking his boss and shooting her.
Cassandra blames herself for not being faster, stronger, quicker. There is no time to mourn. The Batgirl takes this as a sign that she needs to train harder.

Cassandra has met her match, or perhaps her betters, once she bumps into the one and only Lady Shiva, a highly skilled martial artist and master strategist.
There is a mystery going on between the two, Cain and Shiva. The art work by Damian Scott are out of this world. According to Ashford, he ranks this as his favorite story thus far. Kelly Puckett is really breathing life into the character with the narration and attitude.

Batgirl 7 is cool, calm, and busting through the seams at the end. Wow! Where is this series going next? Well, I understand that we are doing a retroactive look at the book, and I could read ahead, but going issue by issue is quite fun. Again, Damion Scott's art is really grabbing me.
Batman feels like Cassandra is not ready to return to the field, but of course, Cass is too driven to not go out and stop wrong doing. And you will never guess who she bumps into in the end? Well, you might, but isn't this just exciting?

In issue 6, which is untitled, we finally have a young Cassandra Cain narrating the book, and it is quite refreshing. In this issue we learn Cass has the ability to stop and start hearts, she knows her guns and bullets, and that instinct is just something you can't shut off. Can Batman truly trust this new Batgirl in the field while sporting the brand? He better.
This annual doesn't have much of our Cassandra Cain Batgirl, but this story really relates to our character as far as being born and bred to do something, unlearning the brainwashing, and working towards the greater good. If you are a The Batgirl fan, I recommend this one.

Cassandra Cain is dealing with her new ability to have inner dialogue and understanding others. This is a progression of the character for sure. However, this new power has limited her almost flawless combat skills: Predicting moves of the opponents before the opponent even flinches.
Batman, still distraught that Cass may have killed when she was a child is just something he can't let go, so he travels across the globe to do his own autopsy on how the gentlemen who is now dead, actually died.
Quite an intense story.
Batgirl issue number 4 really upped the ante on this one. A total change of direction will take place from now one when it comes to the narrative because of a key event that happens to Cassandra. Also, Batman is rather disturbed by the video he saw of a young Cassandra Cain ripping a guy's throat out. Batman refuses to believe his eyes...and the film. He is now ready to journey across the globe to prove that Cass is no killer.
Plot by Scott Peterson. Kelley Puckett with the script. Pencils by Damion Scott.

I Cover the Water Front is the Daughter of Cain's first solo mission as The Batgirl! The artwork is beautiful, the story is serving, and the mantle is not only upheld, but lifted.
This is the issue where Cassandra Cain is giving the blessing to be Batgirl. Unfortunately, at Huntress's expense, the Batman has manipulated the situation to his liking, being a Grade A Jerk!
Batman, Cain, Cassandra, Barbara Gordon, Jim Gordon, and Two Face are some of the main features of this issue. Still in No Man's Land, The Batgirl Cassandra Cain Podcast explores the development of Cass's History before the launch of her Batgirl Run.
Original music for the show by Mya Briones The Song is entitled Burned.

In this issue we get to learn a little more about this runner who has been working for the Oracle, delivering messages and such. Her origins are not only dangerous, but shocking. Although her past may be quite dangerous, saving the life of Jim Gordon goes a long way with The Batman and The Oracle. Humble beginnings.
Kelley Pluckett is the writer.
Damian Scott is on pencils.
Yes, we at the Batgirl podcast understand that although we are covering Cass, this episode centers around the Huntress, Helena; however, because the outfit that Cassandra Cain will soon inherit is so iconic, we had to start at its origin, Ground Zero.
