As a community, we have grown accustomed to the voices of influence at the proverbial “table” being reflective of very few black women, if any at all. The closer the table gets to the C-suite, the influence of the black female voice diminishes even more. Raytheon Technologies, a leader with a global reach specializing in defense and commercial markets, is inviting you to an eye-opening panel discussion with RTX female executives on amplifying the influence of Black Women at the table. There is work to be done and we are being intentional about having our say in ways that will bring awareness, visibility and change to the tables of influence at every level. Accordingly, our executive panelists will be “having their say” about: their personal journeys to the table; tips to encourage black women to increase their influence in impactful ways; how to continue to render that influence in virtual settings; the approach for gaining the sponsorship of those who are already at the table; and the importance of leveraging the influence of black women beyond the boardroom. The discussion is sure to bring perspective and a basis for action as the panelists are all leaders of influence at Raytheon Technologies and in their respective communities.
This seminar will be a conversation that brings consciousness to the power and significance of Black Women having influence throughout their respective career journeys and community endeavors. The RTX executive panelists are having their say and we will be listening as they continue to create avenues of success for black women.

There are a lot of personal and professional reasons why folks strive for a Ph.D. but a fair generalization is the aim to change the world for the better. Other fair generalizations are that many PhDs leave academia because they don’t find the institution conducive to tangibly change the world and that there is very little guidance on how one can utilize their Ph.D. skill sets in jobs outside of academia. At Booz Allen Hamilton, we have made it a mission to bring together our over 1000 doctorate employees (and our many other engineers willing to roll up their sleeves) to collectively help with the firm’s bigger VoLT Strategy by (1) generating R&D that will advance client products and services, (2) building strategic partnerships with high-level government officials looking to solve their “Ph.D.-level hard” problems, and (3) ensuring that diversity remains paramount as business imperative. We look forward to talking about our experience with you and really look forward to talking with the audience about ways we all can work together in changing the world for the better.

Have you ever felt like your seat at the table was two feet lower than everyone else’s or every time you showed up virtually or in person, you felt invisible? Or maybe you’ve been subjected to the hypervisibility that comes along with being the only minority in the room and dealt with how to “blend in” affecting your ability to be authentically seen and heard. Either way, the challenges associated with visibility for minority populations are real and are being experienced everyday. Can we really overcome the challenges of being seen and heard in today’s culture?
In this forum, we will hear from individuals who will share their experiences and perspectives about being seen and heard, despite the microaggressions, marginalization and unconscious biases that exist in the workplace. Their experiences will shed light and give voice to those who have been silently waiting to show up in ways that pierce the darkness of invisibility and inspire all of us to open our eyes and ears to those who have been challenged with being seen and heard. Just know that you are visible, even if others refuse to remove their blindfolds.

At Amazon, invention and innovation are two sides of the same coin. Both require breaking through the constraints of convention and apparent technical limitations. Invention requires you to imagine a future where things are markedly different, and then to imagine what it would take to get there. Innovation takes an existing process or product and blows apart the constraints that make it behave the way it does today and imagine what it could become. This seminar is an intimate conversation with some of Amazon's top Senior Principal Technologists to discuss their role as individual contributors and how they have used their expertise to invent and innovate to optimize the output for their respective organizations.

Learning Objective:
Exploring an array of messages received from family, friends, media, and society may cause some to question their knowledge, skills, and abilities. These messages can also lead to struggles with confidence and self-limiting thoughts on the roles they apply for. Historically, minorities and women have received messages that they are not capable of achieving the heights of success; they must work harder than others; or their natural hair, choice of style and clothing are not deemed professional. In other words, they “don’t belong,” or they must fit in to succeed. The pressure to compete can cause some to internalize these messages. They may succumb to perfectionism or feel like they are carrying the weight of their whole race or gender on their shoulders.
These experiences can become internalized leading to negative self-talk and reduced confidence. “Can I listen to the music I enjoy in the comfort of my office or cubicle?” “Will I be judged for growing up in a low-income neighborhood?” “Will I be deemed unprofessional for wearing cultural attire to work?” This fear of judgement and perceptions based on messages or experiences can cause some to hide aspects of their identities at work (covering), code switch, and in some cases, morph into a completely different person during work hours.
Learn from and interact with a multi-generational panel of industry leaders as they share experiences, challenges they’ve conquered in their careers, the power of owning your diversity, and advice to build confidence in your truth.
After this seminar, participants will be able to:
a. Identify and learn skills to combat negative self-talk when it appears.
b. Learn skills to navigate societal norms and interpersonal barriers.
c. Understand what it means to bring your authentic self to work and walk in your truth.

Learning Objective: Understand how to identify operational technology assets that are most critical to the accomplishment of an organization's mission.
MITRE's Crown Jewels Analysis (CJA) is a process and corresponding toolset for identifying assets that are most critical to the accomplishment of an organization's mission. The capability has been recently applied operational technology and associated control systems (electrical, water, building automation, etc.) for government sponsors. CJA captures not only mission-level impacts, but also task- and function-level impacts, useful for developing mitigation strategies and operate-through procedures. The seminar will cover CJA, its applications, and the mission-decomposition approach to uncover vital mission dependencies for assessment and mitigation planning.
Speakers:

Learning Objective: To understand the measurable value of ‘circular’ innovations and advocate for adopting circular sustainability in manufacturing, product development, and the global supply chain ecosystem. No matter the type or size of the idea or organization, from startups to enterprises, collective sharing is required to accelerate innovation and answer the global resource challenges facing our health and environmental equities. This natural ral resources continue to deplete; our international markets are migrating towards circular systems of sustainability (i.e., the emergence of the Circular Economy as described by the World Economic Forum). The session explores the circular economy, which has been described as an ecosystem of global innovation formulated to advance our capabilities of converting waste and natural resources into sustainable ecosystems to offer an alternative to traditional “take-make-dispose anywhere” environmental practices by advocating for innovative waste and resource cycling, and remanufacturing to reduce waste, cost and environmental impacts on our planet. The natural and human resources powering Industry are global; from raw materials to distributed products, the world has reached its peak and must embrace sustainability, environmentally friendly “green” recycling, and remanufacturing. Industry 4.0 has boosted the Circular Economy. An economy designed to provide continued use and recycling of waste and mitigate urbanization, mass migration, climate impacts, food security, global supply chains, and weather-related events.

Learning Objective: Develop an understanding of how and why technology and innovation are rooted in the global open-source community. The critical success factors used to measure market activity are rooted in two fundamental measures (speed and sustainability); how fast the market can be served with sustained scaling is a constantly evolving practice as more open-source projects launch physical and digital solutions. For instance, a smartwatch development kit can be purchased for as little as $25; this includes open-source operating systems, open-source development frameworks, supply chains, and open-source software. For example, Mastodon is a federated social platform designed to connect online communities without an intermediary platform. The platform is a “distributed” architecture that disrupts traditional social media and empowers each organization to have its version of popular social platforms with total access to all features, functionality, and,t importantly, the data generated from social activities on a distributed platform. This is a significant shift in technological advancements brought on by Industry 4.0 and a globally connected community of independent professionals, novices, and corporate, non-profit, and government resources. The future of open source is yet to be determined; what can be stated with confidence is that open source is the accelerant in a globally connected community and impacts all aspects of research collaborations, development costs, talent acquisition sources, micro-patents, and micro-licensing of intellectual property.

In today’s environment, we are facing a fundamental technological change that we haven’t seen in decades. The coronavirus pandemic has changed how we live, learn, connect, and work. Forbes states that due to the Covid-19 pandemic “2020 became 2025 on the digital acceleration timeline”. The digital revolution is here as seen by the accelerated rise in remote working, distance learning, virtual communication, and online experiences. This digital transformation has made cloud computing, data & analytics, mobility, and digital experience key areas of focus for every industry. Ted Colbert, 2022 Black Engineer of the Year, spearheaded the creation of the Digital Twin Initiative that launched Boeing on the path to Web 3.0. But along with the technology plan, Boeing needs the workforce that can rise to this challenge. The US government has an infrastructure crisis. This crisis affects the military and the government at large. America owns or maintains over 400 bases in 80 countries. These bases face risks from flooding, hurricanes, wildfires, outdated water systems, patchwork of electrical grids, aged airfields, and environmental pollution. These challenges are exacerbated by climate change, budgetary constraints, and the lack of research on technologies or processes that can help mitigate these risks.
The United States is the world leader in simulation, artificial intelligence, and 3D. One of the cornerstones of this primacy is the ability of simulation centers of excellence to work public - private partnerships. Learn about the groundbreaking work that is taking place across the country in simulation, artificial intelligence, and Human Capital Management in Florida and Texas.

As we transition from a remote to a fully mobile, hybrid workforce, organizations need to re-evaluate their approach to securing their people and data. Perimeter defense is no longer sufficient for achieving cyber resiliency and securing our information enterprise that spans geographic borders, interfaces and external partners, and support to millions of authorized users. The "never trust, always verify" mindset requires organizations to take responsibility for securing devices, applications, assets, and services. For an effective Zero Trust security model implementation, organization should answer the following:

A basic flight plan can help us, as Women of Color in STEM, take a bird's-eye view of our careers. Our careers can be divided into three major phases, which are outlined in the plan: "Take Off," "Cruise," and "Landing." For example, consider the "take off," which includes accelerating and preparatory steps, such as an action plan. Making progress or navigating in the right direction is interpreted as the “cruise." A roadmap is one of the tools that can help us during this phase. Finally, have we shaped the legacy or long-term impacts for others during the“landing" phase?

There are over 700 institutions in the United States which are designated as ‘minority serving institutions’ which serve a broad demographic across the nation. According to recent reports, they graduate more undergraduates in the STEM disciplines than majority institutions. For example, HBCUs comprise only 3% of the engineering departments across the country, but gradate 30% of the nation’s Black engineers at the undergraduate level. Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) are increasing growing as the Latino population continues to grow. Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) are seeking to empower their students with the skills that will serve their communities to decrease both economic and health disparities. There are programs at the Federal level which fund research as it relates to these MSIs.
But what if we were to broaden the dialogue and start to work together? Could we forge alliances among are various institutions to create greater synergies in sponsored research, leading to outcomes that enrich our communities and unite us as a nation?

With a rich history of innovation spanning more than 100 years, Raytheon is a technology leader specializing in defense, homeland security, and other government markets. Raytheon’s success can be attributed to creating a diverse work environment where respect is a core value. The black employee population at Raytheon is comprised mostly of generation X, Y, millennials and soon generation Z. One commonality between these generations that separates them from the baby boomers that preceded them is that they have been heavily influenced by the hip hop music culture. The hip hop culture is about embracing who you are and where you come from. Long gone are the days of assimilating and losing your cultural identity while pursuing your career in a technical industry. This workshop will explore the journey of men and women who are navigating their career at Raytheon and how hip hop has influenced the directions they have taken in maintaining their authenticity and successfully growing in an environment that is also changing and adapting to different cultures.
Come hear how these leaders have brought the tenants of leadership forward tightly coupled with the influence of hip hop, the desire to go against the grain, and the acceptance of being uniquely different. These Raytheon leaders are using their differences to stand out to blaze new trails and expand possibilities all while being an authentic leader and a valued mentor.
These leaders lead a little differently and this makes all the difference at Raytheon.

It has been said that necessity is the mother of invention. Real or imagined needs have always inspired a search for new and better ways to meet those needs. Along that journey, challenges present themselves requiring changes in course. Some of these changes are incremental steps while others are paradigm shifts. All can lead to accelerated progress if the obstacles are perceived as opportunities for positive change.
In our constantly evolving and interconnected world, the need for change arises quickly and often, enabling innovation and success. However, when unprepared or unwilling to change, this can disrupt and even halt growth. Do we welcome new trends by ignoring them, adapting to them, or are we the ones introducing them? What realities must be faced to make meaningful impact both globally and locally? Are we taking risk by trying different things and trying things differently to get better rates of return on our efforts? As individuals, communities, and companies, we must re-think, re-invent, and re-invest to reach our full potential.
The Boeing Company is a global leader in the aerospace and defense industry and has been for over a century. Come discuss with Boeing Leadership about how to embrace diversity and inclusion. How to convert disruptors in technology, business, and your personal development into enablers for achievement.

2019 represents 400 years since the arrival of the first slave ships to North America. The progress made by the Black Community in general, and Women of Color in particular has been documented, not fully, but it can no longer be considered an unknown. Given the film “Hidden Figures,” the emergence of a legitimate presidential candidate, and yet the release of the 2019 Fortune 500 list---33 women: 2 Asian; 1 Black---we must continue to frame the discussion through our lens. Socially, culturally, politically, and technologically, Women of Color have been involved in the development of this nation, and yet in the words of our beloved Maya Angelou, “And Still I Rise.” What are the workplace challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century for our women---education, racism, sexism, sexual harassment, mentors, sponsors, white women, other women of color, white men, men of color? Whatever, whoever they are, and for whom they present a challenge, they are on the table for discussion. We are past the time for tolerance of any topic being “off the table.” Senior leaders will engage in this discussion.
