When that company closed its doors in 2002, Toni decided to go back to school and took Communication courses. She quickly fell in love with radio, and thanks to a professor's encouragement to try commercial writing, she interned at a local radio station. Just a few months later, she started a new chapter in their Creative Services department, where she spent 12 wonderful years — first as a Copywriter and later as a Creative Services Director — creating, voicing, and producing commercials for five stations. During this time, she also enjoyed teaching as an Adjunct Professor at the same college where she earned her Radio degree, teaching Writing for Radio/TV and Intro to Radio for five years.

There's so much to learn from the women of the Old Testament. One such character in 2 Chronicles is Huldah. Today's episode is a quick look into the heart of a woman who was a support to the eight year-old King Josiah. Huldah was a trusted porphetess during Josiah's spiritual renewal. She fearlessly conveyed God's messages, helping bring reform and revival to the land.

Today's episode features that surprise of remembrance of the early days when introduced to the singing Simpson Family and the Full Gospel Businessmen's International Fellowship Conventions, both in Philadelphia and New York City.
It's interesting how when memories surface, the trail of reflection goes on and on. We hadn't thought about Evelyn Simpson in years. Those early musical influences in our lives made a significant impact, and there's no doubt that the Simpsons were truly one of those early inspirations for these two teenagers!

Celebrating our fifth season of the Suebiquitous Podcast with host Sue Duffield, starts with a newness of heart, mind, soul and body. Revivify, the word, means "to bring new life" to something that is dead or in need of a resurrection.
One of the Bible’s most incredible statements is "..that the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead now lives in us.." (Romans 8:11). Just that message alone should ignite whatever is dead in you, to come alive.
Take a few minutes after listening to this episode and ask yourself these questions:
- What's in my life that has become stagnant, dry, or even dead?
- How do I even know if I'm "dead" to the Living Word?
- What are the things that keep me dead, isolated or out of contact with the Holy Spirit?
- Know this: It's a simple as asking. Then take your stand for Christ and get those bones moving!
Matthew 18: 19-20 reminds us, “If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

Host Sue Duffield's guest, Susan Piper, is a Christian singer, song and story writer who spends her days in nursing homes, wielding a guitar with her right hand and pushing her Havanese pup in a stroller with her left, continually being ministered to by the ones she seeks to serve. Sue met Piper at a Christian conference almost twenty-five years ago, and that meeting made quite an impression on both. Piper sings and speaks for retreats, women's luncheons, family events and church outreaches. Do you even remember the sound that a pressure cooker used to make? It was a definitive rattling sound; one that could never be mistaken for anything else. This episode lovingly merges the humorous effects of a faulty pressure cooker and the warning of morning sickness during pregnancy.
In industrial settings, the safety valve release mechanism is crucial for averting all kinds of potential disasters, making them an indispensable component in various settings, especially in the high-stakes fields of oil, gas, and chemical processing. But who would know that (spiritually) the safety valve could be also a metaphor for protection when it comes to walking with and serving God. Lots to process here, but it's a fun yet informative way to process His love for us.
The need for physical safety pales in comparison to the universal need for spiritual safety. One may be in great danger in this world of physical harm and still have the assurance of an eternity of security in heaven. We fear not those who can only harm the body yet never touch the soul (Matthew 10:28).

The phrase “Christmas Creep,” is defined as the tendency for Christmas products, decorations, and advertising to be displayed earlier each year. We see this more and more every year as soon as summer is over. With tongue-in-cheek, Sue Duffield starts off this episode with a little "merger musing", with the fictional possibilities of combining Christmas and Hanukkah into a new holiday called, "Chrismukkah!"

It's good to realize it's all a manufactured plan to get you to buy their stuff because of their "name brand", and to get your money too..
There is power in a name. There is nothing more important for any of us to hear than for God to call OUR name. What Jesus received by right, we are invited to receive by grace. Your name brand has everything to do with whose name you represent.

Everyone in Christian music, no matter the level of friendship or acquaintance, has been greatly affected by the tragic loss of Jason Clark, Kelly Nelon Clark, and their daughter Amber and their son-in-law, Nathan Kistler. The plane crash also took the lives of the pilot and his wife, Larry and Melissa Haynie, as well as Melodi Hodges. This has been one of the most devastating losses in the Christian community in quite a while.

It's very easy to see that we are literally one generation away from losing the faith and Christian influence of our predecessors - the ones who took great risk and hardship to stand firm for the Gospel of Jesus. In America, a major poll indicated that two-thirds of young people will leave the church once they live on their own. And not only are they leaving the church, they're leaving their God-infused lifestyles that was so practiced in their homes as children.
Host Sue Duffield takes a deep dive and risk here, to talk about how we have no one to blame but ourselves. She takes it on personally, and has every hope that she can still be an encouragement and influencer when it comes to LIVING the gospel before her grandchildren (and other young people). She's reminded of the role God has assigned to her (much like her grandparents) and that's to pursue His loving wisdom. And even if she's questioned, provoked or challenged, she'll consistently know what her role is, and that’s to love her children and grandchildren no matter what and to let them see Jesus more than ever in everything she does.

It was Joshua’s generation that walked away and it happened in the span of just one single generation, not three. Most will say that when God prospers, it's then you can raise the standard of living. Not so in the Duffield's case. Raising the standard of "giving" has become the ultimate joy for them and It literally has become a thrill of a journey to be able to bless others as God blesses them. The act of giving triggers a natural release of endorphins in our brains, making us feel happier, called, and more fulfilled. The connection with others that comes from fulfilling a need or blessing someone who isn't expecting it, deepens a sense of unity and compassion within our communities.
This off-the-cuff episode, fun as it is, is just a simple reminder that God is NOT a respector of persons, nor is He selective in who He positions for favor. The bottom line is obedience, then being ready to receive and ask God for open doors to benefit others. Becoming that funnel and channel of blessing is absolutely fun!

Sue Duffield, along with her husband Jeff, start off this episode with a little update on the hard price of traveling the highways, the bi-ways and the oh-so-crazy ways of unforseen circumstances. Being t-boned at an intersection not long after falling on the pavement at the post office, put a little apprehension into Sue's style of always being confident and jovial. But yet, somehow she seems to find her "ground" again (in a good way!), and is very thankful that her recent debacles weren't a whole lot worse.
The devotion of "The Price Is Right" follows their dialogue, describing the horrific sex trafficking industry and Sue's personal account of seeing it first hand. Children for sale? Not on her watch. The travesty is that girls and boys are sold and it's becoming worse with every day. Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for every soul born into this world, and THAT price - when it comes to being sold - is right.

If you've ever felt unnoticed, invisible or insignificant, then the news of the Samaritan woman that Jesus empowered, will give you all you need. People like her were thought outcasts and even inferior, but so were many who were attracted to Jesus anyway. Do you even feel the gratification of honor? Many don't. This episode is a glance at the true possibility that this Samaritan woman, disregarded as nothing, could have very well been the first evangelist - telling others of "the man who told me everything I've ever done." Quirky people are described as being unusual in a likable and endearing way. To give off a more quirky vibe, you may need to change the way you think, dress, and act. Faith is an extremely powerful force. And without it, we can't even begin to please God. It's purely impossible according to Hebrews 11:6. This isn't her first time having a Holy Ghost inspired moment in a box store, but it surely will go down as another one of her sacred moments with this phenomenon called "dreams" as it defines her unique moments.

A pre-approval before purchasing a home will give you an idea of the loan amount that you can afford. It's necessary to get a mortgage pre-approval prior to selecting or even thinking about a particular property. The details of purchasing a home, in this economy, let alone being self-employed, is the challenge. Sometimes God gives us a barrel of obnoxious, tricky and annoying monkeys. He watches what we do with them. This barrel could be a tough marriage, raising a difficult toddler, a stress producing job, terminal sickness, addictions, or physical or mental illnesses. There are a lot of assorted barrels out there, and that's no easy game.
Sue Duffield's mother was the master "Barrel of Monkeys" toy game winner! She’d kill it, with her precision and ease of scooping up the monkeys one by one, saying, “Don’t ever let a monkey drop; keep your eyes on the very last monkey - watching to grip the next one, and so on…” she’d say.

Influencers often inspire or guide the actions of others by posting about something (such as a consumer product or service) that they use or endorse based on brand partnerships. And today's episode is a sure shot response to Sue Duffield's recent "Effector" award of Top Influencer, but what she initially read was "Influenza!"
The most all-inclusive definition of an influencer is a person who has the ability to influence others. So, a politician making a speech, a business expert leading a seminar, and a celebrity endorsing a product are all technically influencers, and yes even pastors, singers and keynote speakers.
An infectious personality, like Sue, may know a lot, but an individual still needs the ability to advocate, sell and drum up enthusiasm. Influencers normally have high engagement rates with their audience (in person or on-line), taking on a hands-on approach with their people, showing great care, and always looking to serve their needs to better understand them.
So, just how important is it to be an effective influencer for the Kingdom's sake? Everything. Let Jesus shine SO much in your life that you're infectious and that you get reports of your influence - from all generations.

How in the world could that heavy metal door just bend and mold itself around the stationary telephone pole with amazing ease? This question answered, plus a whole lot of levity and spiritual honesty, comes at the expense of a crazy car mishap and that telephone pole. That not-so-euphoric experience was a conversation piece for some time until Jeff Duffield, Sue's husband, had his own "come-to-Jesus-meeting" with a vehicle and a container pole at an ice cream stand. But that's another story...

Sue Duffield's guest, Donald A. Lichi, PhD is a licensed psychologist, serving as Vice President of Emerge Counseling Ministries in Akron, OH. Don gives such great wisdom when it comes to listening, serving and even recovering from compassion fatigue. This epsiode was recorded soon after the news of the Covenant School shooting and devastation here in Nashville, so his heart is both tender, compassionate and hopeful for those familes who will forever be in a stage of recovery and healing.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lichi has taught as adjunct professor with Trinity International University (IL), the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS), the Asia Theological Center (Singapore), and All Nations Theological Seminary (Malawi, Africa). He also taught for six years in the graduate school at the University of Akron. He was in private practice for over five years, taught school, and directed a school-based counseling program for six years. While in the United States Air Force, he served for three years in Italy and three years in Alaska. He has been a speaker at numerous conferences and workshops on pastoral health, Christian education, parenting, marriage, and family issues. He has published several articles on Christian mental health, and is the co-author of the book, Broken Windows of the Soul (Moody Press).

Sheep don't eat fish, that we're aware of. But "Feed My Sheep", makes one wonder - what DO they eat, and what does that mean from a scriptural context?
This narrative of an episode starts with the disciples of Jesus having another encounter with the risen Lord. This time He breaks into their everyday world and turns it upside down. They realize that they can't even go fishing without the help of the Lord. Jesus, now, the RISEN Lord, says something that will forever change how we view life on the other side of the cross. He says to Peter, “Feed my sheep.”
Everything changes. Peter knows there's no going back. He'll never be able to "fish" in the same way again.
Then enter "The Waffle House", and how a modern day approach to hearing the voice of God can even happen in a favorite fastfood breakfast spot!
When we choose to dwell on God’s light and truth, our souls can overflow with the comfort of being guided by God (see Psalm 43:3). Talk about a FEAST! When we choose to live close to God’s heart, we overflow with delight and joy (see verse 4). So, “Whatcha Cookin now??” If you are submerged in pain, sorrow, despair or confusion, maybe you need to give your soul a good talking to.

There's such a strong correlation between the healing properties of used tea bags and the healing balm mentioned in the scriptures. And what a fun way to present the gospel too, knowing that (1) tea bags are great for chapped lips, (2) puffy eyes, (3) reducing swelling while stopping the bleeding, and (4) to get rid of pungent odor. Think about that for a moment: In the Kingdom, God's Word has the power to keep our mouths clean and to keep them shut when they need to be shut; God's Word has the power to reduce the self-inflicted puffiness and the healing of spiritual wounds; and God's Word has the power to keep us from stinking it up!
Then Jesus walked up to him and asked a strange question, “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6b) Answering that question takes a lot of guts, because if you really do want to get well, then you'll really need to follow Jesus. Tea Bag Therapy, if nothing more, will make you look at tea bags in a whole new light!

While taking a trip in a rental car, Sue accidentally pressed the "OnStar" button several times. She was eventually reprimanded by one of the OnStar associates, saying, "Ma'am, don't do that; do you think you're a superstar or something?"
From that experience came this episode, "How to be an UNStar". Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr's super hit, "You Don't Have to be A Star" is the setting of this post. What a super explanation of what it takes to really be a star in the Kingdom of God. For the performer who just can’t wait to be noticed, Jesus strongly urges (much like the lyrics to the song) to come as we are. He takes us in. We’re rejected, hurt, filled with jealousy, envy, and even succumbing to the comparison factor. But to HIM, we’re worth what we have within. No where is it stated in this pop hit, “You’re worth what you have because of what is on the outside.” So why do we work so hard on everything exterior, yet leave our insides deplete of maturity and spiritual hunger? BTW, spiritual hunger is a good thing.. Check what's inside your heart.

How dare Sue Duffield suggest that someone should only speak “their truth!” But what if this is “her truth?” Shouldn’t she be free and able to speak “her own truth?” Your truth (and her truth) may not be the actual truth, and that is not just her truth, but the truth. How confusing…truthfully. LOL.
Episode 137 dares to challenge situational ethics. What does the truth do to people? Is it motivating to hear the truth, or is it something that makes you mad? And why does it seem that absolutes have disappeared and evaporated into thin air? And why can't we talk to each other anymore without getting hot under the collar?
The pun and truth of those questions stir up the realities of Sue's childhood, recalling her grandmother saying, “Well, If everybody jumps off the Walt Whitman Bridge, does that mean you will too?” (That was usually in response to Sue asking or wanting to conform to her friends’ desires or wants.) It doesn't take much these days to realize, we do SO much better with less. Downsizing Christmas seems to be a trend but it surely isn't new. Episode 133 will take you on a journey of counting and categorizing the amount of decorations you might have. Sue Duffield also remembers a time when cutting back on spending during the holidays wasn't so much as a choice but a necessity. But we all know the truth: creating memories and making special times for your loved ones doesn't always have to cost a fortune. It's great to have Jeff Pearles return for a second time on this podcast! Jeff has had a stellar career in Gospel Music singing bass for the King's Heralds, appearing on many Gaither Homecoming videos, as well as a studio singer and voice-over talent for audio books and events. But all of that could have come to a screeching halt with his diagnosis of Covid-19 and double pneumonia. The truth is, Jeff almost died, and Linda (his wife) both battled a severe bought of serious lung problems as a result of Covid-19. When someone contracts COVID, the lungs get small and stiff, which explains why many experience shortness of breath and massive fatigue. His oxygen levels plummeted, while his heart rate tripled. The doctor gave very little hope to Jeff as he lay for three days in a hospital bed. However, Jeff began to pray that God would send someone to him that would show him hope. And literally, within hours, "hope" AND a miracle walked into that room.
This is a very personal testimony of God's unfailing intervention for a man who has dedicated his life to music and ministry. Jeff has started to share his healing story more open and often in his public performances with many positive responses. Three things happen here: (1) What you think of you, (2) what others think of you, and (3) what God thinks of you. This is an episode focusing on the biblical viewpoint on the body. Culture dictates to us something completely different, and the truth is - it always has. We are wonderfully made according to Psalms 139:14-15, and for all that can be imperfect about the created order and even about our physical appearance, the human body - divine as it is - is an amazing miracle. So, why do we still struggle when we look into a mirror? There's a culture script and especially our own insecurity self-talk that keeps us distracted, defeated, and even addicted to our looks. It's pretty much the enemy's plan to make you feel less than.
Imagine how miraculous the conception and birth of children must have seemed in Old Testament times without ultrasound or scientific understanding. The whole process was captured in mystery and wonder. But even with technological advances and our ability to peer inside the womb, it is still an absolute miracle the way that a child is formed. Beautiful, amazing, and worshipful are words that come to mind when a baby is born into the world. It is sincerely a declaration that God is real, life is a gift, and that we are wonderfully made.

In a previous episode here on the Suebiquitous Podcast, Jeff and I featured Dave Clark, a Nashville award-winning songwriter and musician. Of course, that's my description of him, as he'd never say it like that! But revisiting this ENCORE episode this week, I was once again thankful for this new friend and his heart to leave a legacy for his children. In a town filled with fluff, finance and frivolity (when it comes to writing songs), it's no wonder that Dave Clark stands out above many. Dave writes "thinking songs." God is enough; He is sufficient for all our needs. But this episodic reminder is a spin of major proportion, showing how in "one single second" everything could, can and will change.
