Welcome to Lone Duck’s Gun Dog Chronicles. We’re here to talk all things related to bird hunting, gun dogs and trade stories between friends, pro trainers and hunting buddies.
Well, cheers to Lizzie and Elizabeth. After a whole lot of hard work, Bob finally got a dog to earn a QAA. Tonight's episode is just Bob and Kevin talking about the highs and lows of training, field trials and the long road it took to get a dog to earn that title. We also talk about the difference between Master Test and Field Trials because yea, it can be a bit confusing sometimes. Cheers to all of the Lone Duck clients and community who believe in what we're working for. Thank you. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Tonight's show is great because we get to spend some time with our buddy, Mike Jones, from Primal Canine. Mike is one of the hardest working and most driven people you'll ever hear from on this show... or anywhere. Mike has been on the show before to chat about K9 Street League but tonight we talk more about some of the other projects Mike is working on. One of those projects happens to coach people on self defense with their dog... yup, pretty awesome.
Mike is also working to donate money to the Glory House of Miami. This NPO helps support those who have been victims of human trafficking. It's a sickening topic to discuss but it is important to listen, learn and help. Mike plans to donate a fully trained working dog to help survivors at the house and is working to supply more dogs. Working dogs are pretty amazing, right?

Today we have the pleasure of sitting down with Purina's Ray Voigt, one of the most insightful dog trainers you'll ever encounter. We've had Ray on the show in the past and the feedback was that he's a genius and a storyteller... so he is now a repeat guest. We had Ray at the kennel to record the show and hear about his summer roadtrip around the northeast and we review the National Amateur Field Trial Competition. We also discuss Master National and what Ray is doing to plan and prepare 3 months out from that level of competition. Then, we hear how Ray has conditioned dogs in the past with a roading system and get this... a kayak. We take a slight detour in conversation to hear about Ray's hunting trip to Argentina and how it's now on bucket list (and I bet yours, too). Okay, we jump back into dog training and talk about issues people have with their dogs and go into specific detail about how Ray would suggest fixing problems like loopy or crooked sits, bird boy blinds, line manners, watching birds and more. This is an extremely thorough conversation and Ray does a great job of explaining timing and what to watch for. Finally, we talk with Ray about some of the dogs he has trained in the past because they're often the "famous" dogs people refer to in their dog's pedigree. Seriously, go look through your dogs pedigree and you might find a dog Ray helped train.

For this episode, we sit down and talk with our buddy, Casey Everett, about small game hunting. Except, when Casey goes hunting, he brings hawks that he taught to trust and work alongside him and then they bring home cool dinners. Yes, he wins the coolest hobby award. We start the show learning about Casey and how he got into falconry as a kid and we learn what it takes for someone to legally trap and keep birds of prey. Then we hear about his first bird and how one time it tore up his hand pretty bad while hunting. Then we dig into the nuts and bolts of the training, which is super interesting. If you listen closely, there's some similarities between what he does and what we do. It reminded me of bringing home a high drive puppy with tons of natural instincts and you have to build trust and a bond and help nurture those instincts so the dog realizes "ohhhhh we're partners here." Casey is a super knowledgeable guy and is really fun to chat with. Enjoy the show and give him a follow and tell him we sent ya. Cheers!

Today we had the pleasure of speaking with Pat Stuart from the Canine Paradigm Podcast. Aside from being a highly intelligent, hard working and extremely knowledgeable about training dogs... Pat is truly a great storyteller. His ability to break down complex dog training scenarios and then explain it in a way that makes sense to just about anyone is not something you find anywhere. That's why we called Pat from across the world to chat about dogs, training and hear a few stories from his past.
We begin the show hearing about Pat's podcast (which I'd encourage you to check out), his military background and how he got into working dogs. He said being near dogs in the military was so interesting, he wanted to dig into that world more. Some of the conversations we had during the show discuss positive reinforcement training, negative reinforcement training and we talk about the "unforced force fetch." One of the cool parts about listening to Pat is hearing how calculated and intentional he is with everything. There is a how and why behind his training and he helps explain it all so you can replicate it with your dog. Thank you to Pat for coming on our show and hanging out for a bit. If you enjoyed the conversation with Pat, check out more of his stuff here.

Today we sit down to hang out with our good friend, Marie, from Silver Lion Kennels. You may remember Marie, as she used to work at Lone Duck for a couple years and now she is crushing it with her own kennel over in Acworth, NH.
Marie and her husband, Steve, recently got married and instead of going to sit at the beach or snorkel some island, they took the dogs for a midwest hunting trip.... I like to call it a huntymoon. We get to hear about how she took her GSP, Colt, to hunt alongside his father and grandfather and how cool it is to notice similarities between generations and bloodlines. Then they took their other dog, Sprocket, on their first real deal duck hunt and we got to hear about some memorable retrieves and moments from the trip.
We end the show hearing more about her business and how she built her 15 run kennel on their property. It's interesting to chat with people about this sort of thing because it's always tough, exciting and fulfilling to create a business like this. We often have people DM us asking about starting their own kennels, what it's like, what you learn and wish you did differently, etc. so it's cool to chat with Marie and hear how she is making things happen.
If you're looking for someone who is extremely knowledgeable, patient and will work super hard to train a dog for you... Marie is a solid choice. You can check out her instagram here. Cheers!

This is a great show and we're excited to share it with you. Tonight, we hang out with Cliff Enzor from Uplander. Cliff is a Michigan guy who grew up hunting and always had good little Brittany bird dogs. We learn that as he got older, he fell more in love with hunting alongside his dogs than sitting in the deer woods. Cliff started the Uplander Lifestyle with his wife and they're making some of the coolest gear you'll find for anyone who likes chasing birds alongside their dog. Cliff has four bird dogs right now and we talk a lot about conditioning, how he wrangles four dogs, pigeons vs quail and Bob tells Cliff about The Mother of Dragons. We also chat about the typical stereotypes people hear about Brittanys and Cliff digs into his lifelong experience to help answer some of those questions. Cliff is a super passionate guy and certainly knows his stuff when it comes to hunting birds and doing so with dogs... this is one of those shows where you pause and take notes for when hunting season rolls around. Cheers!
The most common question we get about dog training refers to force fetch so we created a video series using all sorts of dogs at various stages to help show you the how, when and why behind force fetch. MmmmMMmmmm.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down and chat with our buddy, Hunter, over at Kent Cartridge. I'm sure you've heard us talk about how great it feels to sling a few rounds of bizzzmuth down range and how effective it can be when duck hunting but did you know the boys at Kent have a new shot out there? Oh yea. Hunter tells us all about their new product Fasteel+ and how it's not only cheaper than bismuth but packs more of a punch. We also have a very real conversation about how covid changed the industry and supply chain and how Kent Cartridge is working to adapt. Oh, we also hear about dogs eating doves and Bob gives Hunter some advice which can be applicable to many, many people out there. Check out Kent Cartridge, find some of their gear and get on the birds this fall.
Want more 1:1 training with your hunting dog? Check out our patreon where you can work closely with Bob. We have tons of videos, happy hours with community members, discounts and you have access to Bob.
Tonight Bob and Kevin share some big news about force fetch. Yes, that's right... it only took ~700 days to get this project wrapped up but hey, who's counting? If you would like to force fetch your dog in the way Bob does it, then this project is for you. Hit us up, let's work together and help create a bad to the bone, confident, retrieving machine out of your dog. We can do this. If you're interested, then check out the project here and let us know what you think. Cheers to you.

Tonight is a show with Bob and Kevin chatting about the recent action of hunting season and the tale of Ol' Nubs. They also dig into Kevin's deer season and a duck trip out to a beaver pond in the eastern part of NY with some friends. This is when Bob shares a story about Memphis' time chasing geese.
Oh, we also share some news about a project we've worked on for literally two years.

Welp, tonight's show is a doozy (& maybe not one to enjoy while the kids are around). We have the pleasure of enjoying a couple drinks with Marie Madaras, a dog trainer working alongside Bob for the past 18 months or so, and Grayson Guyer of Lost Highway Gun Dog Kennels. Grayson has been on the show before and he is an awesome trainer and storyteller and this is Marie's first time AND it's her last week working at Lone Duck Kennels. Let's just say we had a little celebration and thought why not turn it into a podcast, too? Topics include: all sorts of BSing, Marie likes horsing around, grouse and woodcock hunting in NY, how to be a dog trainer, what makes good animal trainers, how Bob wants to take a six month hiatus and Marie's kennel, which you can (and should) check out here.

Tonight is special because we get to hang out with Pat Burns, we get to pick his brain about how he develops strong, confident dogs by building a bomb-proof training routine andddd hear about his new project he's been working on... Bob and Kevin talk with Pat about his Bomb-Proof Basics course he is launching soon and he is inviting people to a free webinar on 11/01 and 11/02 at 8pm EST. If you're interested in meeting Pat, asking him questions, etc. you can check out their website here and sign up to join the show. We also get to hear about the three dogs Pat took through his training and how each dog learned and progressed. It's very interesting to hear Pat speak about each dog and their owners because he's very meticulous and passionate. Some of our discussion topics include:
working dogs through problems
determining if your dog is being lazy or misunderstanding
creating confident dogs
collar conditioning and force fetch
training sensitive dogs
knowing when to move onto the next building block of training
keeping dogs happy
Needless to say, this guy knows his stuff.
You can also sign up for his bomb-proof basics course, which is open for purchase from Tuesday, 11/01 through Friday, 11/11 @ 3pm. After that, you can't join for a while so don't miss out.

Tonight we sit down and chat with Craig Zimmer of Hero to the Line. We learn about Craig's background, how he got into the dog business and how he got started this non profit that introduces veterans to the sporting dog world. It's good to know there's people like Craig out there who are actively coaching and encouraging people to join this community. In the show, Craig mentions that the hunt test and waterfowl hunting community is full of hard working, patriotic people who are willing to help each other and work together... not a bad transition if someone is a veteran and looking for a new hobby.
If you're a veteran listening to this show and you're interested in learning more, or you're someone who wants to help pitch in to support this cause, then please reach out and we'll help connect everyone.

Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down and talk dogs with Courtney Wolf from Wolfhaus K9 and this is a show you won't want to miss.
First, we learn about Courtney and how it feels to jump out of a plane but then we hear how he got into the dog world. Most people we speak with talk about building confidence in their dogs, searching for good genetics to create certain desires in a dog, creating a relationship, etc..... and we're talking about gundogs. Well, tonight we're talking about that but with police dogs and dogs that "want to eat you." It's always super interesting to chat with people from the bite dog world because the stakes are so much higher and there's a ton of parallels from their world to ours. We also talk with Courtney about being a decoy and what it's like to have dogs run you down and how to coach dogs through that process. We talk about making good dogs, what "good dogs" means to each of us, what makes good trainers and most importantly, we hear about his dog, Pig.
Overall, this was a really cool show and we're grateful that Courtney wanted to come hang with us for a bit. If you're interested in what his world is like, check him out on instagram here.

I'd be shocked if you haven't heard Freddy King's name or seen any of his work on TV... it's everywhere and he is the man. Freddy has helped thousands of gun dogs by coaching their owners via hundreds of how-to videos and tonight, he helps the Lone Duck Community. Tonight, we sit down with Freddy King and we talk about everything imaginable. We learn how Freddy got into dogs and we have the "dogs of a lifetime" chat. You know, the one where some people swear you only get one good dog in your life and others have that dog a few times. Then we talk about The Retriever Trainer and how Freddy can help people (check it out here). We talk about how he adds realism to his training so even the dogs who don't retrieve thousands of ducks per year can still gain experiences. We end the show as Freddy shares his most memorable retrieve, a common question we like to ask people. Well, Freddy sure has an uncommon answer.

Well, tonight we tried something new. We have a lot of people ask about our patreon happy hours and what they are and why we do them, etc. so we thought we'd share one. This is a one time deal because they're exclusive to our community but they all said it'd be fun to hop on a podcast, so here we are.
We get a lot of awesome dog training questions and hear how other people's dogs are doing as we all gear up for hunting season. Settle in, listen up and let us know what you think. If you'd like to join the happy hours and have a drink with Bob, check it out here.

Tonight we have a very special podcast for a few reasons. First, Bob and Blaine host the show together, which is something we haven't done before but also, we had the extreme pleasure of chatting with one of the greatest dog trainers around, Pat Burns of Elite Retrievers. Pat has 3+ decades of training and competing at the highest levels possible. Think about that for a second...because it's wild. He is one of the most knowledgeable trainers currently in the game and boy, do we dig into some awesome training discussions. Bob, Blaine and Pat chat about a variety of training topics that you could apply to your dog (regardless of the level they're currently at). They begin discussing the importance of building trust and challenging dogs, especially with high level dogs. Pat emphasized that each dog should have a strong foundation and he encourages people treat it like an investment in the dog's lifetime, so don't rush the small steps. He also pointed out that most people fail because of the "simple" things at a test like sitting and other obedience things. Then we dig into some topics Pat is meticulous with like whistle sits. We often get questions about how we train for this and Pat explains his process, which begins way before you actually teach a dog to sit on a whistle. Finally, we end the show with some parting advice from Pat. Overall, this show was extremely educational and interesting. Be patient and invest in your dog, it'll be worth it. If you enjoyed listening to Pat, then check him out at Elite Retrievers and catch one of his seminars... you won't be disappointed. Cheers!
Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles is part of the Waypoint Outdoor Podcast Gang. If you like our show, then you will sincerely enjoy some of the other awesome shows they have.
It's an extra special show because we have Blaine Tarnecki from Hudson River Retrievers at Lone Duck Kennels. Blaine, his wife and their swarm of little brown dogs are staying in NY for a couple weeks to get out of the hot, southern sun. After dining on some finely smoked fish from a recent trip that Blaine took out west, we sit down over a drink to chat about gun dog training, fishing for Stripers and we answer some really detailed training questions. Overall, we had a pretty awesome time and I think you'll enjoy.

Tonight was extremely special for the Lone Duck crew because we not only got to hang out with our patreon friends and talk dogs and hunting but then we jumped on a very special call to meet a new friend. Tonight, we (at least from our side) became best friends with the creator of Duck Camp Dinners on the MeatEater youtube channel and wildly talented chef and Bronco man, Jean-Paul. We had one of the best conversations with him and heard about his show and what he's excited to share in their second season (which airs 08/12/2022). What we enjoy about his show is how relatable and authentic it is to the deer camp, ice fishing and duck camps I've been to. It's impressive how they nail it but also so simple because that's really how it is when you hang at a duck camp with your buddies... they just turned their good times into a show we all love and appreciate. I hope you listen and enjoy our episode with Jean-Paul. He's extremely passionate, driven and thoughtful and hey, the guy can shoot ducks and cook 'em like a champ... isn't that just the ideal buddy to sit around and BS with? Well, that's what we did. We got to hear about his time growing up hunting, his first dog, his time learning to cook, what makes cajun food, how much bob enjoys boudin, his life in NYC and a ton more. If you want to learn more about Chef Jean-Paul then check out his IG here.

Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to chat about a whole bunch of topics but first we review the latest field trial bird by bird and dog by dog. We dig into what went well and what went wrong and how to train for these situations. We also get into Bob's new strategy for field trials.
Then we dig into a few good questions from patreon people about the beginnings of Lone Duck and starting a kennel and what it actually took to get to today.

Tonight, we had the pleasure of hanging out with our good buddy, Jeff Coats, from Pitboss Waterfowl. Jeff probably doesn't need an introduction because this is his hat trick episode on the podcast, he is a legend on social media, tv and anytime someone says the words "seaduck hunting." All that said, did you know Jeff is an absolute dog man with lots of experience training and running dogs in hunt tests? Well, Jeff took a little time off but he is back in the game... this time alongside his awesome wife, Karen. One of the reasons we enjoy spending time with Jeff is because he is such a great storyteller and tonight, we hear some goodies. He and Bob chat about how Jeff got into hunt tests in 2001 and we hear about some of his dogs from way back. Then we dig into his new dogs, Rye and Mac, and how they're doing as Jeff and Karen get back into competition. Finally, we hear a few tips and tricks about passing (and failing) Junior dogs at various hunt tests. Next, we hear about Jeff's passions and how he keep waterfowling on his mind 365 days a year: ducks, dogs & carving decoys. Jeff generously gives us an intro to carving duck decoys and talks about the types of wood, where to get it, what to do with it, which materials he would suggest you buy, you name it and we cover it. Truthfully, we were taking notes and you probably should, too. Overall, it's a pleasure chatting with Jeff and Karen as they are fantastic people who truly love and support ducks, dogs, decoys and the sport we all appreciate. Jeff and Karen: cheers to you.
Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles is part of the Waypoint Outdoor Podcast Crew... yeah buddy.
Tonight's show is jam packed with all sorts of training advice for building one heck of a dog. We chat with our buddy Ray Voigt from Purina about his time as a dog man. Ray worked alongside & learned from some of the greatest trainers of our generation (you'll hear who in the show). We hear how Ray gives corrections, how he handles dogs who do not give effort and what he considers "effort." We talk in depth about increasing effort on down the shore blinds and other difficult scenarios. We hear a very detailed explanation of Ray's methods for teaching hold and transitioning throughout force fetch and walking fetch and we learn how to oversimplify training for dogs. Many people ask us about 3 handed casting and well, we chat about that, too. One of my favorite quotes from this show was when Ray said to coach dogs by making the right thing to do, easy , and making the wrong thing to do, hard.
We have such a highly detailed conversation about such intense training that we almost run out of time to chat about Purina. We dig into Ray's work with herding dogs and Spaniels and 3 products from Purina that you may not know about...

Tonight we kick back with our good buddy from Foundation Retrievers, Oliver. He made the long trip up north to do some training with the Lone Duck crew and it's only fair that we bother him on a podcast. We doe some shot for shot questions with Oliver about hunt tests, how to get dogs to pass, his thoughts on training dogs during the heat and a ton more.
Bob and Kevin also share a few old stories of past hunting trips and how Bob is grumpy at 5am when Kevin is trying to toss decoys out of the boat.

Tonight we had the pleasure of sitting down to hang out with MeatEater's Duck Man, Sean Weaver. If you haven't seen his show on youtube, Duck Lore, then you're missing out and need to rethink life a little. On the show, we hear about Sean's time growing up as a hunter, how he got involved in ducks, memorable retrieves, awesome hunts he has been on, and more. We also hear about his dog, Kace, and how her training is going, where she is from and the wholeeee deal.
We also dig into some Duck Lore action and Sean's plans for the show and why he made it the way that it is (which we respect the heck out of). Finally, we ask Sean for his thoughts on the bird flu and how that may influence duck numbers, which snowballs into a super interesting conversation about the prairie pothole region, tamies and wild ducks and a lot, lot more. Thank you to Sean for joining us on the show and for working hard to positively influence the duck hunting community. If you're reading this, then you'd be a fan of his show... check it out here.

Tonight, we announce some news that we've been waiting ~7 years to share. Pretty excited, pretty grateful and prettyyyyy pumped.
After we chat through that and the plans moving forward, we move to a recap of Bob's field trial with a few Lone Duck dogs. It was a super difficult layout and tons of dogs struggled to stay on course. Bob reviews how it went, what he learned and how you and he can do better next time based off this experience.
Oh, and reminder: we have an in person seminar with our friends at Standing Stone Kennel on 06/25/2022. If you want to join to learn from Bob and Ethan, watch some dogs work, eat good food and have some fun.... then get in touch ASAP.

Tonight we had a great conversation with our good buddy, Dakota Mealer... you may remember him from a past episode. Dakota is a fantastic trainer who currently has our little girl, Jolene, to see what he can do with her. We get to hear a little JoJo update as she has been working through force fetch, swim by, cold blinds, pattern blinds and should be coming up on decheating in the near future.
We also dig into a few tricks for getting a young dog into the water properly, using pigeons and ducks and what ideal dogs look like for Dakota when they first come to him. We chat about how and when to apply pressure and how to create compulsion with your dog. This is a super interesting conversation and it's one that many people (myself included) find confusing. Pay attention to how Dakota explains all this...

Do you run any sort of test with your dog? If yes, then listen up.
On today's show, Bob chats with our good buddy, Clark Kennington. As a repeat guest on the show, you might be familiar with how talented and articulate Clark is and on this episode he unleashes about 500 pro tips on how to be a better handler. We dig into the HRC Grand and what it takes to play that game, both as a handler and dog..... and pass it.
Here's a couple items we address on the show: Why do you slow down at the line. Why monitor wind direction. How does Clark take detailed notes for each dog and when. When to move around at the line (if possible) to set the dog up for success. Do we recall dogs when training on marks... why? when?
Thank you to Clark for coming on and hangin' out. Give him a follow and you'll be glad you did.

Tonight's show is a special one. We reconnect with our good friend and someone we look up to for a whole bunch of reasons, Ira McCauley. When we first started this show, Ira was our first guest and if you haven't heard the show, check it out (episode 2) because you'll wet yourself laughing. For this show, we learn about Ira's podcast (the grind don't stop) and we hear the latest with Habitat Flats. Tis the season so we chat about turkeys and how Ira has killed 100+ turkeys in his career. We hear about his gun and the wild story it has and where its final resting place is. Ira is extremely knowledgeable about ducks and turkeys and business and building habitats for ducks and cooking wild game and he is also a vet among many other things. If you read that sentence outloud, you'd need to stop and take a breath because his woodsmanship resume is so long. The best part though? He's willing to share and trade stories. Cheers to you, Ira. We appreciate you.

Today, we chat with our buddy, Oscar Mora, from Elevated Canine Academy. Oscar is a fantastic dog trainer out on the west coast and as you'll learn, he knows a thing or two about training athletic dogs with high drive. One of the questions we often receive is regarding "a high drive dog and how to manage it." With the stakes being quite high for dogs in protection competitions, we chat a lot about drive capping and how to work WITH a dog, their energy, drive, motivation, etc., rather than learning how to "manage" it. We often say it's important to train the dog in front of you and it's great to hear Oscar (who has tons of experience with all sorts of dogs) echo these opinions. We also learn a little about Oscar's time in the bite suit and in front of the movie camera. Overall, he's a super cool dude who is great at teaching dogs and people. If you're interested in learning more about Oscar and his programs, then check him out at Elevated Canine Academy.

It is always a good time when we can kick back with our buddy, Barton Ramsey, from Southern Oak Kennels. He's been on our show before and we always have a great discussion about training, family, dogs, breeding and life. Barton is one of those people you spend time with and later you think man, I wish we hung out more.
Tonight's conversation was absolutely incredible and you won't want to miss it. We talk about a million topics like: what to look for when breeding dogs, Barton's new dog, moose and his background and how cool he is. We chat about when our buddy, Adam Campbell, went out for a training day with the SOK crew, so we hear about the training day and their set up. Then, we dig into a good conversation about training blind retrieves and fueling the dog rather than stifling their confidence, place training like a pro & how Barton corrects a dog who is creeping.

Tonight, we discuss some breaking news from Master National folks about rules and locations and how it will be adapting to hopefully be better in the future. We read through their statement and Bob talks about his own thoughts on the changes and how he sees it influencing trainers across the country. Then, we jump into some puppy news and hear about some retirement planning. Finally, we dig into some awesome questions found on our youtube channel about mini t, training chessies vs other breeds, bark collars while training, collar conditioning and a bunch more.

Tonight we had the pleasure of spending time with Mr. Blaine Tarnecki from Hudson River Retrievers. As a frequent flyer on the show, you're already familiar with Blaine and his ability to coach both dogs and people. We had a ton of awesome questions from both his and our patreon friends, so we settled into an evening talking dogs and debating whose methods are better in which situations.

Tonight, we have a fantastic conversation with Kevin Cheff, The Retriever Coach, about the nuances of collar pressure and a whole lot more. How to use an e collar with integrity, teaching dogs to properly understand collar pressure, collar conditioning to sit vs here, why Bob uses pressure to "kennel" and how to choose the right collar for your dog. Kevin says he prefers collars that are simple to operate and highly reliable.... we agree 100%. We also ask Kevin a few questions directly from our friends on Patreon (patreon.com/loneduckoutfitters/) and we chat about direct vs indirect pressure and give a few simple examples so everyone is on the same page.
We're grateful to have Kevin come on our show. He is extremely intelligent, experienced and he is one of the best at teaching people about their dogs. If you're looking to be a better dog trainer, listen to this show and check him out on any platform by searching "the retriever coach."

Tonight, Bob & Kevin provide a few exciting updates on what's happening at Lone Duck. Bob is down south sun tanning his way through this years training trip and getting after it with a trailer full of dogs. Overall, the dogs are doing well and certainly keeping him busy and we hear about some very very exciting litter news... After, we dig into some Q&A we did with people from Patreon and they pick Bob's brain about denials, t pattern distances and we chat a lot about training dogs rather than "training dogs to pass a test."
PS. we're working on audio and yes, Kevin's didn't come out so well... we fixed it for the next show... sorry about that.
Need some gear for training season? Check out StandingStoneSupply.com cause they have anything you'd need.

Tonight, we sit down to catch up with our good friends over at Standing Stone Kennels and hear about their hunting season and we announce some exciting news... you'll need to listen to find out.
This show is jam packed, so don't miss it. We hear about Ethan's season guiding hunts in South Dakota, we learn about hunting with his young dogs and how he managed to be successful with such a young string of guide dogs. When do you know your dog is false pointing? How to fix it? We talk about setting up your training environment so the dog is successful and confident. We discuss some of the highlight stories of the year and of course, some blooper moments (we all have 'em). We chat with Ethan and Kat about hunting with two dogs and especially the situation where one dog is younger and one is older. Finally, we hear about our girl, Sammy. Sam spends her hunting season with our mutual buddy, Peter, and she chases birds alllllll overrrrrrrrrrr the place. Sam is a real special dog and we're grateful that she has such a good time hunting with Peter.
Do us a solid.... check out Standing Stone Supply and do yourself a solid by getting your dog geared up properly. Cheers.

For this week's show, Bob sits down with recurring guest and good buddy, KD Mathews, of Socratic Canine and shares some exciting news... He and Bob will be commentating at this year's K9 Street League event! It's like the bite dog and protection dog version of the SRS in the hunting dog world. Bob asks KD a ton of cool questions about the training involved, the types of situations people have to prepare their dog for, how people in the bite suits prepare, etc. and a ton more. The bite dog world is incredible and the crossover between the foundational principles of dog training for them and for the hunting world are similar. Check out KD on his instagram to learn more about his training, his dogs, his philosophy and how to be a better trainer. Cheers.
Tonight we sit down to chat with Cable Smith from the Lone Star Outdoor Show (check him out here) and trade a few hunting stories. We learn how he got into the radio business and how he originally trained his first gundog. We also hear how his passion for the outdoors has evolved and how he now chases wild game all over the US and Africa. He even talks about how to find cool hunts, prices and some misconceptions about hunting in different places. Cable is a super down to earth guy and is an awesome storyteller. It was great to have him on the show and hang out with us for a bit.
Tonight we sit down to chat with our fellow dog man, Tom Davis. The Lone Duck crew is pretty fired up to have Tom on our show because he's a great storyteller and really knows his stuff when it comes to dog behavior. To kick off the show, we hear the backstory of how Tom got into his first business and how that led into his WILD story of getting into off leash training. We then dig into more of how he is unique in working with dogs and then he and Bob rattle off some Q&A questions from Instagram.
If you want to up your game as a trainer, handler or dog man, then go follow Tom. You'll be thankful you did.
Things got a bit jolly tonight but we're rolling with it.... maybe not a show to listen to with the kids in the car.
Tonight's show was a good time and Bob and Kevin run through some holiday cheer. We go back and forth on things we're grateful for this year, things we asked ol' Santa to bring down the chimney, first guns and how they came to be ours and a bunch more. Please know the Lone Duck crew wishes you all a happy holiday season. Pour a cold one and think about a few things you're thankful for... it'll do ya some good. Cheers!
Had a great call last night with one of the greats, Lyle Steinman. Yes, he came back onto the show to catch up and recap his year with Bob. They dig into Master Nationals, The Mamba Challenge, his goals for next year and how they plan to get there. It was pretty interested to hear Lyle talk about goals and how he sets and achieves them.
Then we slide on into some questions from our patreon community. Lyle and Bob run through transitioning dogs from being at the trainers to being at home, casting drills and tips, how Lyle tones down a high-drivin' dog and a bunch more.
A big thanks as always to Lyle. He's one of a kind and has more intricate advice than anyone on the planet. Cheers, everyone.
Holy cow, what a detailed show. Tonight, we had the pleasure of chatting with a repeat guest and awesome guy, Kevin Cheff (The Retriever Coach). He is extremely knowledgeable and is great at breaking down training and information so anyone can understand each step along the way. Oh, and he does seminars you should look into. Some topics discussed are: dogs with high drive, getting dogs to come out of a kennel nicely, holding blind manners, indirect pressure, handling on marks, blinds, etc.
After we finished the show, Bob turned to me and said "this was one of the best." Thanks for joining us, Kevin.
Tonight's show is a goodie. We dig into the hunting season and how it's relatively duckless (how about near you?) We jump into the strategy behind Lone Duck puppies and what we are sincerely trying to deliver to each family.... we also have news in that area! Then, Bob and Kevin dig into a few really good questions about training during the winter, puppy and young dog work, whistle sit advice, mini T training and a lot more.
By the way, have you seen Gunner's new product? Check it out at gunner.com
Welcome to Blaine Duck's Brown Dog Chronicles Academy. Tonight, Blaine allows Bob and Kevin to hang out and talk dogs with him. We hear about Blaines trip out west for Master Nationals '21, how his dogs performed, how he prepped them and how he eats string cheese for dinner. Also, Bob and Blaine chat about the upcoming Field Trial they're entering... stay tuned for how that goes.
Then we dig into a very long and highly thorough conversation answering some questions from Blaine/Bob's Patreon friends. We dig into a wide variety of topics from heel techniques for puppies to en route force to teaching patience, etc. After the podcast ended, Blaine said he thought this was the most educational show he's done so far. Let him know what you think at his Instagram account.
Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles is part of the Waypoint Podcast Network. If you like our show, then you'll love other cool shows in our network. Check 'em out here.
Welcome welcome. As promised, we're back on schedule with some Lone D. On this week's show, Bob and Kevin recap Bob's western hunts with Andi and we also dig into Finn's first duck hunt. It's great to be back and I'm pretty proud of Raggedy Andi's work out west.
let's try this again... Our good buddy, Oliver Burman at Foundation Retrievers, joins us to reminisce about the Master National. We run through the prep work leading up to the test and each series and how each dog handled it (the good and the bad). The few weeks out west were enjoyable, humbling and exciting. Cheers to clients, family and friends for supporting Lone Duck. Now let’s get onto hunting season.
Tonight we enjoy speaking with a repeat guest and friend, Grayson Guyer from Lost Highway Kennels. Our show gets pretty deep and discusses human connections and how that connection works with dogs, too. We catch up with Grayson and hear about his upcoming plans for the NAVHDA Invite and how his feelings match Bob's with Master Stashionals '21. Grayson gets into some info about snake breaking dogs and how he has been helping people keep their dogs safe... stay tuned for more seminars on that from him... Finally get a little outside Lone D's usual topics to chat about life and the state of things. It's worth a listen and taking time to think.
A few weeks back, a true dog man (KD Mathews) came to hang out and share some stories. KD lives down in sunny Florida and has been in the dog training business for the past 30 years and the reason is because he asks questions. Then he asks more. He asks the owners questions and in turn, teaches the owners about their dogs before really even teaching the dogs. Then ya know, he teaches the dogs, too. We dig into some leadership with dogs & people and surprise: coaching people and coaching dogs can be eerily similar. KD provides a phenomenal analogy that really hits home, especially since we all refer to ol' Lone D as Uncle Bob. Then we finish up chatting about bite work with dogs, the importance of a "denial" and how dogs never forget things, we just try to bury those memories deep, deep down below tons of positive reps. If you enjoyed the show as much as we did, hit up KD and learn more at socraticcanine.com... you'll be pleased you did. Cheers, brotherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Today's show was certainly a special one. We had the pleasure of speaking with 1st Lt. Amber English... but you might know her more as the bad to the bone wingshooter with nerves of steel who earned the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Amber has been competing for years and is currently shooting on the AMU team in the United States Army, so she has the coolest job ever. We learn about her time in Tokyo, the food she has eaten while traveling, her hunting plans for the fall and a ton more. Amber also shares some advice she's heard from coaches and she even offers some tips to help us become better shooters...we'll see how it goes. Hopefully, this isn't the last we hear from Amber because we didn't get to meet her dog, Cotton. Cheers to you, Amber.
Learn more about the US Army's Marksmanship Unit here.
We had a good hanging out with Clark Kennington. He is truly one of the greats. We chatted through the hunt test he ran up here in NY and ran through the good and bad from it. We then dig into some of his philosophy for training dogs and how he's been successful over the years in all sorts of tests.
*Also, Shorty's Pub n Grub should be a podcast sponsor....
Welcome welcome. Tonight's show was with our buddy, Doug, from Soggy Dog Gear. He's an awesome guy who enjoys training dogs and telling tales. Doug lives out in Michigan and that lucky dog happens to live in some prime bird hunting area (I'm not jealous or anything, it's fine). Anyway, we have a great time talking about how Doug got started working with dogs, new products from his dog supply company, a contest Doug is putting together for amateur trainers, Dogtra products he likes and possibly my favorite part of the conversation... we talk about fire breathing, pumped up, high drive dogs and how to handle them. Doug happens to own a fire breather and he and Bob talk a lot about obedience, ways to work with those kinds of dogs, lessons learned from k9 handlers, etc. We'll have to have Doug back on the show sometime because 1. he's the man and 2. we had a great conversation and I want to hear more about some grouse action.

Our good buddy Adam Campbell is back on our show to talk dogs and catch up. Since we've last seen him, he and another buddy of ours, Jimmy Rodgers, have created an awesome podcast called The Dog House with Adam and Jimmy. If you're a fan of our show, then you'd enjoy theirs.
We talk about Adam's dogs and how hot the weather can be for dog training where he's from. Adam gives some warm weather training tips for people and we dig into how Adam preps his dogs to peak at the right time. Specifically, we talk about peaking for the ol' Master Stashional event. We also pick his brain on some water work questions from a few friends of ours and his answers are awesome. Don't miss out on the dog training advice we get to enjoy in this episode! Cheers!
Tonight's episode is one of my favorites so don't miss this.
First, I really enjoyed the opener and chatting about the brands we like... I got Bob off topic and he got all flustered. Next, we learn how Bob is doing with the adopting some of Oliver's training techniques (if you're wondering what those might be, check out the previous 2 episodes). We also talk about the most recent hunt test where a bunch of dogs passed their tests and we had a handful of lone duck dogs qualify for the Master Stashional out in Idaho. We also chat with Bob about his training day with the local retriever club and how YOU can get involved with some cool clubs near you. Give it a shot, you have nothing to lose by meeting with a club to see if you'd be a good fit. Finally, and I think I'm going out of order here but that's ok, we hear a lot of frustration from Bob and this is the part I really enjoyed...hear me out on this. We get a lot of people who write in asking questions and we try to help problem solve and dissect the training scenario and see what sort of solutions we can create to help make the dog more confident and successful. At least once per day, someone says their dog is great with the collar on or they're great in training but once the collar comes off or once they're at the line for a test, the dog goes nuts. Well, this happens to everyone, even here at the Lone D and tonight, we hear all about it. Bob has been working hard with a few dogs who have soooo much drive that it's pretty tough to manage. Anyway, I liked the conversation because it's raw and straight shooting. This is how training dogs can be, it's hard.
If your dog "is nuts and has so much drive they're tough to handle..." you aren't alone and cheers to you.
Tonight's show was a great time and we tried something new: recording during a live stream with our friends on patreon. We hung out and answered some of their questions and were able to interact quite a bit, so we had a really good time and appreciate those who could make it. We catch up with Oliver and get his thoughts on a few specific training scenarios. This was a fun one, I think you'll enjoy it. Be sure to watch for Oliver at Foundation Retrievers... he is one heck of a trainer.
Welp, we've had a couple weeks of chaos with a whole lot of traveling for hunt tests and long days training dogs but we're back and ready to share a few lessons learned. This week, we're hosting Oliver & Andrew from Foundation Retrievers and getting in a lot of good training. Bob and Oliver recap the past few weeks of hunt tests with the dogs, how they performed, where things went wrong and how they're busting butt to problem solve and earn passes. I feel like our show is usually pretty passionate. We put a lot of time and energy into Lone Duck Kennels and you can't help but get worked up talking about the wins and losses because of all the "investment" you put into this kind of work. Well, I think you'll feel the passion in tonight's show as Bob and Oliver dig into training advice and go back and forth with each other. It's certainly a positive discussion centered around building confident dogs and ways to increase the trust and relationship with your dog, but it's super interesting to hear all the different ways to accomplish the same training goal. What do you think? Oliver and Andrew will be here for another week, so we'll do a round two with these guys next time. Did we miss anything or do you have follow up questions? DM us and we'll get to it. Cheers.
PS. Check out our buddies at Waypoint Outdoor Collective... they have tons of cool shows and if you like ours, you're gonna love some of our other friends' shows.
Welcome to Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles... it's another good show this week. Bob and Kevin have a good time chatting with friends during an Instagram live session. We dig into all sorts of good Q&A with people ranging from their first hunt test and expectations to decheating. Settle in for a good time. Cheers.
We've had a lot of people ask questions about mini t, t pattern, how do you get a dog to sit on a whistle, why does my dog loopy sit, etc., so tonight, we're tackling all of it. Bob and I catch up a little but we dig right into the meat of the show and try to thoroughly explain the process from start to finish and when to notice triggers along the way. These "triggers" are little things to watch for to know when your dog is ready for the next step in the process. We also answer a few other questions that came through Instagram (@loneduck) about breeding, how to choose parents, how to choose breeders and a whole lot more. Tonight's show hit a lot of interesting topics. Let us know what you think! Cheers.
Tonight's episode was spent chatting with Mike Jones, the founder and head trainer at Primal Canine out in California. Mike is a super knowledgeable guy whose passion for dogs drives his business forward. We hear about Mike's past and how he got into the dog world, we learn about his business and his unique approach to dog training. Unfortunately, we had some time constraints for this show because we struggle with time zone math but we will be having Mike on the show again because we have a whole lot of bite work to talk about. Mike is the man. If you're interested in learning more about him and his business, check out his website here.
Well, we're not really numbers guys so we missed celebrating our 100th episode, so we're cheersing to 101. To celebrate, Bob and Kevin hit the pistol range, trained some dogs, made fried turkey nuggets and chatted about the last couple years of doing the podcast. We made some good plans for how to improve as we continue the show and would greatly appreciate your input on that.
Thanks for listening and as always, cheers to you.
Can you believe you've listened to Bob fumble over the same intro for 100 whole episodes now? What a world. Thanks for coming along for the ride. Cheers to you. This week, we sit down and talk with our good buddy, Lyle Steinman, who just won the Mamba Challenge down at Mossy Pond. We dig into the test, what each series looked like, the fantastic hospitality from the Mossy Pond crew, the dogs Lyle competed with and how they all performed. Then, we pepper Lyle with some awesome questions sent in from friends on Patreon and Instagram. Thanks to those who sent in questions, we had a really detailed conversation with Lyle and I think you're going to enjoy it. Cheers to 100 more.
This week's show was awesome. We had the pleasure of chatting with our fellow Eukanuba buddy, Todd Agnew, from Craney Hill Kennels in Georgia. Todd has been working Spaniels for a long, long time and has a highly unique and effective approach to his training routine, which we learn all about. Bob and Todd bounce back and forth on various ways to train a dog, how dogs learn and why Todd chooses this methods. Grab a notebook and a pen, you'll want to remember these tips and tricks. If you're interested to hear more from Todd, then check him out here.
A couple weeks back, we had the pleasure of trading a few stories with Andrew Beam (@beamcountry). He's an absolutely fantastic guy who works hard, writes great songs and knows his way around a fishing pole. In tonight's show, we hear about how Beam took Bob out searching for redfish and a good time. We also hear some wild stories about how he started his career as a DEC officer and then transitioned into the music scene. If you like country music and good stories, this will be a treat. Cheers to you, my friend.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin had the pleasure of chatting with Kevin Cheff, who is known to some people as the retriever coach. Kevin is a super knowledgeable guy who has been in the dog training business for 20+ years and it shows. Bring a pen and paper for this podcast because he and Bob talk through some highly detailed tips and tricks for formal obedience and how Kevin helps to coach people through the entire process. They also dig deep into marking drills, singles, doubles and they answer a lot of awesome questions that we get all the time.
Check out more of Kevin's training tips at his site here.
We have some big news in this show and we're excited to see how this plays out...
This week, Bob and Kevin sit down over a drink to chat about a whole bunch of topics. We talk about the dogs on the truck, where they're at and how Bob is progressing each dog and share a few good laughs.
Once you hear the news, shoot us a DM @loneduck if you're interested to learn more!
Tonight, Bob and Kevin chat with our good buddy, Lyle Steinman, from Castile Creek Kennels about how his southern trip is going. Like many people, he has been battling the frigid temps in Texas, which is obviously devastating. On a positive note, we chat about some exciting things happening with his business. A lot of people ask about doing southern training trips and what it's like and so we pull back the curtain a little. It's interesting to hear Lyle's perspective. He's also been focusing in and crushing it with his dogs. As always, it's fun to chat with Lyle and hear what he thinks of specific training topics and what's happening in our industry.
Tonight, we chat with some fantastic guys from Rugby ATL, Marno Redelinghuys and Johan Momsen, and hear about how they're basically living one of Bob's dreams. It's always inspiring to hang out with people who are super determined, hard working and like telling hunting stories of how it was when they were growing up. That goes double when their stories are from South Africa and they're hunting cool animals I've never even seen.
Apologies for the first edit on this episode.
Tonight is a Bob and Kevin show and we hear about Bob's trip down to Charleston and the plan for training each of the dogs. It's good to hear the breakdown of the different groups on the truck and how he is wrangling each one. We also check in on the lone duck pups and how they're growing and learning each day. Then, toward the end of the show we dig into some questions from our friends on Patreon. We dive into some of them and then answer the rest in a video on our Patreon.
Check that out here.
Evenin' friends. Tonight we check back in with a great buddy of ours, Captain Jeff Coats. Jeff is one of the greatest hunting guides you could possibly find; he's been in the sea duck game for 21 years, has the world's largest duck boats, crafts his own decoys and trains his own dogs. If you want to learn about sea duck hunting or have the coolest hunt ever, then you'll make a trip to Ocean City, Maryland, and give him a call.... and you should, he has a few spots open for next season (@pitbosswaterfowl).
On this episode, we talk about the hunt with Jeff we're doing in December of 2021 where we're randomly picking a patreon supporter and flying them to hunt with us and Jeff. We also hear about Jeff's duck season, how he's working to develop Pitboss HQ, his cool dog, Rye, and a lot more. Jeff is a real class act and we appreciate his friendship, enthusiasm for duck hunting and what he does for our industry.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin have a chat with our buddy out in Wisconsin, Mike Vaughn. Mike is an absolute beast of a hard worker and you'll feel his passion as he shares stories about his past. We dig deep into how Mike got into the bird dog game and how he has meticulously worked to become a reputable trainer and competitor within the hunting dog industry. We also learn about the bird dog wars. Honestly, I feel like we need to get into this game but i'm afraid I'd be sucked in, never to return. How do you think you'd do in the BDW?
Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to hang out with one of our favorite buddies, Barton Ramsey, of Southern Oak Kennels. We catch up on Barton's hunting season, which is still going on... it's fine, I'm not jealous. We hear about an exciting and memorable trip he took with his son and how he is introducing his kids to the outdoors. I realize this is a topic that comes up often but Barton provides a few concrete examples of how he is doing this and man, I respect it. We also hear about some of his dogs, how their hunting seasons has been and what's happening with the puppies. All in all, we had a real good chat with Barton both on and off the podcast.
Welcome back for another goodie. Tonight, Bob and Kevin chat over a beer and tell stories about the past few hunts we've had. I wont spoil anything but man, we had a really good hunt together a couple weeks ago. We also dig into some '21 plans for seminars, how we're going to improve for you guys, the plan for Ms. Prairie Dog and a pupdate on the two Lone Duck litters on the ground. **If you have a second, please shoot us a DM on instagram (@loneduck) with some feedback on anything and everything, instagram, podcast content, youtube, patreon, etc. We're 100% open to thoughts and requests and don't know if you don't share. Thank YOU all and as always, cheers to you.
Listen, we've had a really good time doing this podcast over the last 88 shows and this is no different. Tonight, we have the pleasure of cracking jokes with our buddy, Tyler Chambers. He's a blue collar, country singing, dog lovin' kinda guy and he fits right in with us. Tyler has been writing songs in Nashville for a few years now and generously offered to share one of his unreleased songs in the middle of tonight's episode. We bounce all over the place in tonight's show and talk about how Bob shouldn't write songs, deer hunting, using fans to hunt turkeys, we learn about his handsome dog and how he got into hunting. Overall, I think you're really going to enjoy this episode with Tyler. He's an awesome dude and certainly someone we respect. Check out his youtube and see yourself: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGCuv59tIpQB0GV8eAK0Zfg
We've had a lot of people ask about chatting with buddies who aren't pros with a hundred dogs in the kennel and more on the side of just a few. This made us think of our pal, Brandon Sweesy, of Northern Air Retrievers. He has a really good dog named Jones that he trained himself by watching Freddie King videos, reading and calling his breeder and you guessed it... actually training the dog in front of him. It was pretty cool to learn more about Brandon's training philosophy and how he handles his dogs in tests. We really dig into a good training discussion and we hope you enjoy it. We were pumped to find out that our new girl, Prairie, is a distant relative to Brandon's younger dog. It's funny how small this world can be, right? Check out Brandon and his dogs on his Instagram @northern_air_retrievers for some great photos and even better training tips.
Tonight, we chat with one of the greatest dog trainers around, Brad Arrington, from Mossy Pond Retrievers. Bob and Brad met a long time ago and basically, they catch up on the last few ~10 years. What's happened since then? Well, Brad has continued to grow and refine his skills as a trainer, grown an impressive business while maintaining a high level of integrity. Brad helps share some advice for one of Bob's dogs that keeps veering off on specific marks and it provides a really in depth conversation. We also talk about an event he's putting on in the spring and you should check it out. Overall, this is a great episode and we're grateful for Brad's time and friendship. If you're down south near him and need a good trainer, he's your guy. Oh, did you want to throw your hat into the ring for Bob buying you a hunting trip with us? Anyone signed up on our patreon is entered and right now, your odds are pretty darn good. Cheers, friends.
Welcome back. We always enjoy chatting with our good buddy, Blaine, so we asked if we could join "his" podcast again. In this episode, we dig into some of his hunt test season and what he's learned from it, how he likes hunting woodies in little honey holes and how he wants to help coach your dog with his new venture, The Brown Dog Academy. If you've heard our show, then you've probably picked up a trick or two from Blaine and it could be worth looking into. While chatting, Blaine also teaches Bob and I why we're so bad at deer hunting.
Did you hear the episode where we announced that we're taking a patreon follower on a PAID hunt next year? Well if you haven't, check this out and toss your hat into the ring: patreon.com/loneduckoutfitters. Cheers to you!
This is a slightly different show than our usual training how to's and it's great. You know that buddy you don't see as often as you'd like but when you do, you end up staying up late trading stories, stacking empties and it's like you never skipped a beat with your old hunting buddy? Well, meet Dave. We hear about Dave's first impression of Bob, we hear HIS version of that one lone duck that cupped into the decoys and much more. Enjoy the show. Do you want to go hunting? We're going to do an all expenses paid hunting trip for a patreon buddy of ours for next season. Check it out here: patreon.com/loneduckoutfitters
Welcome back for another goodie. Tonight, Bob and Kevin kick back to run through some hunting updates for our season. Bob went out hunting with our ol' gal Safe (remember her?) and had a good time. We also jump into some deer updates on Bob's new property and learn about deer hunting in the snow. We alsoooooo have a pretty cool announcement as we're still navigating this whole patreon deal so definitely look into that. Long story short, let's go hunting.
Welcome welcome. Tonight was pretty great as we were able to enjoy a little time with Papa Blaine and hear about the Boykin National Field Trials. Blaine talks through the tests, what it looked like, what the dogs had to do, the judging and even caps it off with some advice for proper weiner retrieval. As always, it's fantastic to have our good buddy, Blaine, on the show because he's so incredibly knowledgeable and easygoing. Cheers to you, Blaine.... Bob owes you one.
You know someone who might like our show? Send them our way and leave us a review, please!
Nothing like a little chaos to create an impromptu week of training and fun, am I right? Well, that's what happened and we ended up being home for the Free Spirit Gun Dogs crew and we are grateful to have them. We sat down to have a handful of laughs with Molly Boland, an extremely talented dog trainer, hunting guide and overall badass. We kick off the show chatting with Molly about her early years and hear some cool hunting stories from moose to caribou to spearfishing, hand lining & hunting sea ducks in Alaska. We then jump into some good training advice and even hear questions from our close friends on Patreon. We then jump onto Instagram Live to laugh and chat with people about their dogs and offer advice to help them achieve their training goals.
Tonight's show was pretty special and I think if you listen, you'll feel that. We truly had a good time chatting with Molly and learning from her. She's an absolute inspiration and like I said, we're grateful to be friends with her & Beth.
We can just start by saying that tonight's show was pretty awesome. We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with our buddy, Lyle Steinman, before the SRS Championship. We begin our show hearing about Lyle's summer and the tough losses he's endured. Man, I've been there and it's devastating. We then pick up the positivity and learn about how Lyle's been training his dogs and pushing himself to the max in preparation for the SRS. We also hear some detailed training advice from Lyle in regards to swim by, decheating and a lot more. I'm pumped because we were able to connect our Patreon friends with Lyle and they asked some good training questions for him. If you'd like to join and receive cool perks like that, then hit up this link here. Good luck to Lyle and all of our friends at the SRS this year. Cheers.
Oh hey there. Let's jump into another goodie (for the second time because I screwed up the file for the first interview) with Russ Kelley from Eukanuba. Russ has been a dog guy for years and has owned all sorts of hunting dogs. He's also been a driving force for dog nutrition for his whole career and we're lucky to chat with him and answer a few questions about how to best fuel our dogs. This is a super interesting show because of how knowledgable Russ is and because Eukanuba recently launched their new food and Russ tells us all about the what and the why behind it. Thanks to Russ and the Eukanuba team for supporting our show and for constantly pushing themselves to be better for our dogs. They have a simple mission and it's certainly something we can get behind. Check out their site to learn more.
Bob and Kevin sit down to answer a few interesting questions we've received lately about gun dog training. We also flip on the ol' Instagram Live and chat with friends, hear about a new puppy, how the hunting season has been so far (mehh could be better), and a lot more.
Tonight's episode was pretty awesome and I hope you enjoy yourself. It's always great to chat with people live and get to know them and their dogs a little. Do you have questions about training, dogs, hunting or who knows, maybe you'd like some dear abby advice, we can do that, too.... hit us up on Instagram @loneduck.
Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles is part of the Waypoint Outdoor Collective. Check 'em out if you'd like to find more outdoorsy content from some cool people.
This week, Bob and Kevin sit down over a beer to reminisce about the fantastic weekend we had. We were fortunate to have a bunch of great people and their talented dogs come hang out, train, eat, drink and be merry with us. We put together a little weekend workshop for amateur trainers and we talk about what everyone learned, force fetch, t pattern, wagon wheel, walking fetch, blinds, force to a pile, holy cow the list goes on. We also had a pretty solid party after the long day, gave away some cool prices and enjoyed ourselves around the bonfire just trading hunting stories. We received such great feedback about our workshop that we'll certainly be doing more in the future.
Then we jump on Instagram Live to chat with friends and answer a little Q&A and things get good. I'd highly encourage you to hop on the ol' IG next time we do a live show because it's super handy to see visuals during explanations.
We've pretty grateful for our Lone Duck community and for those who came to the workshop. Cheers to you all.
Tonight we share a lot of laughs with our old pal, Ethan Pippitt, from Standing Stone Kennels and our buddy Dr. Peter Armstrong, DVM. Peter and Ethan flew into town for a quick trip to talk about dogs and learn more about the Lone Duck Dog program. We had a full day of running dogs and then settled into a good podcast to hear about Peter's interesting experiences as a vet, driving cattle, his hunting trips and his super cool dogs. I happen to consider myself a dog guy, but Peter just puts me to shame. I learned quite a bit in this episode and also laughed pretty hard.
Oh, did I mention we have NEW stuff on our website? Check it out and support us!
This week we recorded our 75th episode of Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles and we're real excited for it. We had the opportunity to speak with Carson Wentz from Eukanuba's Wentz Bros Outdoors and boy did we have a good time. He is one of the most down to earth, genuine guys around. With such a busy schedule, he makes it a priority to spend time outside, unwinding and enjoying a good hunt beside his dog. We learn a little about how Carson got into hunting, training his own dogs and he even provides that I think can apply to a lot of people. We also chat a little about his foundation and other passions in his life. Big shout out to Eukanuba and Carson for coming to hang for a bit. There's some new sporting dog food and a new season of WBO that you should check out... you won't be disappointed.
This week, Bob and Kevin chat with our good buddy, Oliver Burman, from Foundation Retrievers. Oliver and Bob go way back and discuss the ol' days of the Clemson Retrievers Club and how Oliver got into the dog training world. We then get into a solid conversation about how to build the foundation for a dog and the right ways to build a pup into a hunting dog. We also dig into breaking after some birds and how Oliver works with his personal/client dogs to ensure safety for everyone. This is an awesome show and we really enjoyed catching up with Oliver. If you're down south and you're looking for someone to coach your dog, he's a great choice.
Welcome welcome. It has been a very long time since we've chatted with our good buddy, Blaine, from Hudson River Retrievers and we're glad he's back. Tonight, we get to hear about Blaine's summer of training dogs and fishing. Blaine has done a little traveling this summer and shares about his time at various hunt tests and how the dogs on his truck are doing. After, we dig into a question we get alllllll the time: how do I properly collar condition my dog? If you're interested in learning about collar conditioning or if you think you could learn a trick or two, Blaine and Bob break it down into great detail. Thanks to Blaine for coming on the show, it's always a good time. Cheers.
For this week's show, Bob and Kevin settle in over a cup of coffee for our first morning show. We're currently taking a few days off to fish and unwind and wanted to answer some awesome questions from the Lone D Community. Topics discussed: Bob's fishing skills, problem solving with lining drills, collar conditioning advice, wearing white on long marks and whoa action with GSPs.
Finally, we nailed down dates for our tune up weekend before hunting season rolls around. If you're interested in joining us for some all day Saturday & half day Sunday personal training, then fill out the survey in our social media profiles. It's a first come first serve sort of deal and we only have room for 15 dogs to join.
Check out some of the handy training tools we use at loneduckoutfitters.com. Also check out some great content to get you pumped up for hunting season at Waypoint Outdoor Collective. Get some.
Yup, tonight's show is a goodie. We had the pleasure of chatting with our good buddy, Dakota Mealer, a fine shootin' duck hunter and an even more talented pro dog trainer. We reminisce a little about our Arkansas hunt a few years back (pssst... we should go again!), we learn about how Dakota first started hunting for coons and quail in the Georgia woods and then made his way over to waterfowl. He's been in the game for a long time and is extremely knowledgeable about training and bringing the best out of his dogs. In fact, we spend the bulk of the show comparing/contrasting techniques for force work, t pattern and how to problem solve with a dog. Listen carefully because this is a very educational show, especially if you're looking to fine tune your dog OR go hit up Dakota at Goldhill Retrievers in Auburn, Alabama.

Puppy Pick Up Day has been been such a good time. This week, we have our good friends, Kat and Ethan from Standing Stone Kennels out to Lone Duck HQ. They're here to pick up their new black lab pup from our recent litter and talk all things hunting dogs. Over the past few days, we've put together tons of cool content (which will come out shortly) and plan to do a whole bunch of cool stuff with them in the future... check them out here for tons of bird dog advice.
For tonight's show, we really bounce around to a lot of cool topics like tests for labs vs. pointers, some training advice for blinds, how they plan to train their new puppy, expectations of a hunting dog, etc. This is a super informative show so don't miss out.

Bob and Kevin sit down over a drink to talk through the past few hunt test weekends and how the Lone Duck crew has performed. We discuss how tough it can be to make sure dogs are staying sharp all week and peaking during the weekend. Then, we jump onto Instagram Live to chat with all of you guys and answer a few really good questions. Thanks for being part of the show and for supporting the Lone D.

This week's show we meet with a buddy who is no stranger to the hunt test game or a duck blind, Jimmy Rodgers. He has been in the hunting, guiding, dog handling world for a long, long time and has a few tricks up his sleeves and fortunately, he shares a few tonight. Jimmy dabbles in a little bit of both worlds in that he has competed at The Grand and the Master National, so we hear his take on both. We also do a little shot for shot with him and hear an in depth look at heeling sticks, feeding routines, (not professional) thoughts on bloat, advice for people looking for guided hunts, over-pressuring dogs with collar work, how Jimmy is bringing us to Alaska and more.... but really... hold him to it.

Welcome back for another fun show. Tonight's episode is a little different but if you read between a line or two, you'll draw lessons that can be transferrable to work, family, dog training, coaching, etc.. Our guest tonight is Bob's friend and previous rugby coach, Clarence Picard. He has always been a mentor to Bob and has taught him a lot about work ethic, integrity, confidence and leadership-- all skills that are important when training a high caliber dog. If you enjoy the show, let us know and check out Clarence's podcast, Backyard Rugby. #BTH

We spend most of the show digging into Bob's favorite tips n tricks for all sorts of topics like puppies, adult dogs, hunting, guns, decoys, etc. Cheers.

Welcome welcome. This week is quite special for us because we had the opportunity to speak with our friend, Grayson Guyer, from Lost Highway Gun Dogs. Grayson is truly a dog man through and through. He has tons of experience with all sorts of dog work and we get to hear stories from working with military dogs at war to steadying pointers and everything in between. Grayson has a ton of knowledge and we just scratched the surface of his storytelling. If you haven't already, you should give him a follow @losthighwaygundogs and tell him to come back on our show for another story or two! Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles is part of the Waypoint Outdoor Collective. Check 'em out on their website.
For tonight's episode, Bob and Kevin chat with our good buddy from Southern Oak Kennels, Barton Ramsey. This is the second time we've had Barton on our show to hang out and he's the man. We discuss his hunting season, how he has been introducing his kids to hunting via the dogs, some of the recent litters and more. Oh, we also chat about the SOK dog that is currently studying up here in NY at Lone Duck HQ, Roscoe (he's the man!). Then we mix things up and do a little shot for shot Q&A with Barton where we shared an Instagram Live and really had a good time. Barton shares some of his favorite marking drills, what they've been doing to stay effective during this shutdown, addressing possessive behavior, an ETA on the return of his stache, and a lot more.

Tonight, Bob and Kevin speak with our good buddy, Addison Edmonds, the founder of Gunner Kennels. Addison and his awesome team have been working hard to innovate some new products (maybe you'll hear about some on the show..?) and keep your dog safe. Also, we learn how Addison's dog is bad to the bone and does tons of cool tricks! Addison explains how he taught Gunner some beer-fetchin' skills in just a few minutes. We've really enjoyed our friendship with the Gunner crew because they're good people, they support the community and they have integrity. Hit us up if you're interested in learning about their products or check them out at gunner.com.

Bob and Blaine share a few laughs about our latest Instagram fun with Busch Light... if you're into dogs and beers, check out instagram.com/loneduck and enter to win cool stuff. Also, we spend a lot of time moving forward in our conversation about properly teaching blinds. We've received a lot of positive feedback about the advanced training shows and we hear you and we're on it. We're also going to do some live videos and break out a whiteboard to really show everyone how to be successful. Stick with us, tonight's show was rocky with service at the start but we got rolling. Stay safe and cheers to you.

Big show tonight. Bob and Kevin sit down to chat with a long time buddy, Pete Fischer. Pete's an incredible guy with more dog training experience than most pro trainers. He owned his own successful kennel for 30 years and has since spent his time working with the fine people at Dogtra to develop some of their best products. Pete shares some e collar advice, some ol' hunting stories, his time in the hunt test game when it first started and we hear about his dogs. Tonight's show is pretty special, I think it's one you'll enjoy. Cheers to you and stay safe out there, friends.

Welcome welcome. This week on Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles we have the pleasure of speaking with our most frequent guest, Blaine Tarnecki of Hudson River Retrievers. Blaine shares some experiences he's had while teaching dogs the swim by drill. We dig into things people run into when trying to teach their dog hand signals and Blaine does a great job of providing step by step instructions to help problem solve. We also talk through some of the best videos to watch if you're looking to train your own dog from pup to duck season. This episode is super informative and I hope you enjoy it. Did you know we had some new Lone D Gear on the site? Check it out here if you want to support us!

Tonight, Bob and Kevin sat down to catch up on a few things since it's been a while. First, apologies for the lack of shows; we've had a few things come up but we're back, babayy. Bob and Memphis recently competed in the Super Retriever Series so we talk through what that looked like and how they did. We also hear about the latest Lone Duck litters! If you're interested in having a high-end and meticulously well cared for puppy, then shoot us a message and we'll see if we're a good fit for you. Finallyyy Bob and Kevin dig into a little t pattern action. What is t pattern? Well, it's an early step in the process of learning blinds. Bob has a few dogs working through t pattern right now so we talk through some of the problem solving he's had to do to build confidence in the younger dogs. PS. We also shared some somber news about a good buddy of ours, Matt. He's been on previous shows with us and generously invited us down to his home to train and hunt and he recently experienced the absolute worst thing for a dog trainer, a kennel fire. Our other buddy, Barton at SOK, set up a go fund me for Matt and if you're able to, send something to help out (prayers, cash, dog pics, etc.) during this awful time... Matt's the kind of guy who would send something to you if roles reversed. If you're interested, here's the page: gofundme.com/f/goose-creek-retrievers/
happy st. paddy's day, friends. as always, cheers to you.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to review a few of the dogs that travelled south for the winter and how Bob is challenging each individual dog. We also talk through a little Shot Show action and answer some really good questions from the Lone D community. Some of the questions include training set ups for senior level dogs, cheating edges of water, building concepts with dogs, honoring and some tricks for working two dogs by yourself. Did you see the new shirts on our website? Check out the black lab and golden shirts at loneduckoutfitters.com
Tonight, Bob and Kevin speak with Dr. Spoo (@gundogdoc), a sporting dog vet specialist. This was probably the longest episode we've done because we just had such a good time laughing and talking gun dogs with Dr. Spoo. If you've ever had a question about your dog's health, we probably covered it here so take some notes-- seriously. Topics were all over the place tonight (in the best kind of way) and here's a few things we covered with Dr. Spoo: the dewclaw debate, useful med kits for the field, dogs and CBD oil, nutrition advice for puppies, pregnant females, supplements at various ages, Freudian slips, hunting stories from Dr. Spoo, what to do when your dog blows out a knee, how to flush an eye, proper rehab for dogs. his new podcast, Fueled, and a lot more. If you found this show helpful, please share it with a friend and be sure to leave us a review. We read each one and sincerely take your feedback into consideration to improve the show for everyone. Cheers to you all.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin were lucky to speak with Fritz Heller, a Michigan man who knows a thing or two about hunting for grouse. Search "grouse commander" and you'll find out what I mean...
Fritz has been hunting grouse for years and has a unique method you don't normally hear about; he uses labs, only. He has found that if you can train the dog properly, the grouse flush better by a dog than by a person, so you're able to position yourself better to increase chances of a clean shot. We learned how Fritz trains his labs for grouse hunting, the weather patterns and where to find them during various times of the season and I'd be a liar if I said I didn't take notes. I really had a good time talking with Fritz, he's the man.
Tonight we welcomed Lyle Steinman of Castile Creek Kennels to the show. Lyle has been in the hunt test game for a number of years and has more accolades than I can comprehend. We got to hear a little about how Lyle got started working with dogs and how things have evolved over time and then BAM we jump right into some advanced training advice. We had a lot of fantastic questions come through and weren't able to get to everyone so Lyle said he'd be happy to come back on the show and continue chatting... we'll have the ol' cell service thing figured out by then, too.
Tonight we welcome Bob back to The States and hear about his fishing trip in Belize. We're also let down by his story about Albert and Bob's inability to bring home a trophy. Next, we hear about some plans for the coming months as Bob moves south to train in warmer weather (will you be nearby? come say hello!). We also dig into some awesome Q&A we had come through our Instagram (@loneduck), so you're going to want to listen to the whole show to learn a few ol' hockey tricks.
Welcome to the new year. This week's show we hit a few awesome segments but first we recap this year's Christmas Eve grouse hunt with Andi, Covey, Nick & Huey. We then get into a question from Gunner Kennels about winter training and how to keep your dog sharp as the season gets closed. Now, the bulk of this show is dedicated to something important so please listen closely. We talk about e collars. Why do we use them at Lone Duck Kennels, what if your dog is "too soft" for one (they aren't), how do you carefully scale pressure to receive the desired response, why we don't like the vibrate option and a lot more. We receive questions all the time about e collars and how people are nervous to use them so hey, let's talk about it. Let us know what you think of this episode, please. Shoot us a review on iTunes (5 stars would be cool), a DM on Instagram, an email at loneduckpodcast @ gmail . com... whatever works for you. We'd love to chat more about this topic so you can have a happy & healthy dog and feel more confident about training.
Welcome back from the holiday break, everyone. I hope you ate your bodyweight in sugar cookies like me. For tonight's episode, we're fortunate to speak with Tom Keer. Tom's passion for both gritty hunting dogs and swingin' flies over good water has settled him into a life as a writer and business owner... and the latest friend to our show! Tom has the ability to tell a story like no other and we could have talked for hours. Surprisingly, we didn't really cover much of his writing career (this time) because we jumped right into his English Setters, hunting stories, what makes for productive grouse cover and a lot more. If you're interested in finding some of Tom's writing, give his name a quick Google and you'll see that he's in every cool magazine you probably already subscribe to. Tonight's show was a little unique because the three of us were all in different locations (so be patient with the audio). Regardless, kick back with some coffee and enjoy. Cheers.
Well, we tried something a little different, folks. Tonight, it's snowy and we settled in for an AMA-style show where we rattled off all sorts of questions for Bob to answer. We flipped on Instagram Live to really put him on the spot and he didn't know what sort of things were lined up-- so we laughed and had a good time. Yes, we go through some dog training advice but we also learn about Bob's preferred dog names, his time wrestling goats, life in Ireland, his list of guns I didn't realize was so long, how Bob fell into owning Andi, boiled peanuts and a lot more.
Like I said, it's a different kind of show but I think you'll laugh, feel like you know us more and still walk away with a few mini training tricks up your sleeve. Cheers, friends.
Evenin' folks. Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to chat with the Lone Duck community over an Instagram live and answer some awesome questions. We had a bunch come through and we really rattled through some goodies (Bunny's being my favorite). We learn about casting drills, building marking confidence in young dogs, why Zach is a stud and a whole lot more. We enjoyed tonight's show and hope you did too.
As always, thank you for your support, cheers!
Tonight, Bob and Kevin speak with a friend and an absolute pioneer in our industry, Trish Jagoda. Trish has been training dogs for 40+ years so yeah, she's seen a dog or two. We learn about how Trish got started working with dogs, her time judging, some advice for new gun dog owners and some of the wild ways people used to train dogs (thankfully, it's changed). If you're interested in learning more about Trish and how she trains, check her out on her site: silver-brook.com
Tonight, Bob and Kevin had the pleasure of chatting with our new buddy, Dennis from Duck Blind Coffee. We got to hear about his time starting a company and how he meticulously roasts his own beans to better serve the duck hunting community... and others, too. I really enjoyed hearing some hunting stories and we even chatted about gun shy dogs. If you're going to introduce your dog to gunfire or you think you have a gun shy dog, listen to this show. As always, we want to be as transparent as possible and I tried some new audio things in an attempt to improve our show and well, I'm not so sure I was successful. Please be patient and understanding, I'm just trying to be better to support everyone and have a good time doing it. That said, feedback is always appreciated.
Happy (almost) Thanksgiving, friends. Cheers to you for supporting us.
Last night, Bob and Kevin sit down to continue our conversation about the proper way to teach your dog force fetch. If you haven't listened to episode 43 yet, then go back and do that first so this one makes sense. This is generally a sensitive topic because there's a lot of people who don't understand this technique and there's a lot of people doing it wrong. Well, we want to help educate people about force fetch and you can make the decision for yourself.
Topics include: ear pinch walking fetch, collar walking fetch, ladder & beginning force to pile and a few questions from our Instagram live session. As always, thank you for your support.
Pull up a seat, we're going to talk a little force fetch tonight. We get questions every day about force fetch like when do I start? How long does it take? What if my dog is too old, young, soft, stubborn, small, big, etc. Well, tonight we're starting our two part series on every single inch of force fetch. Let us know what you think in our DMs @loneduck. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words, feedback and reviews. You're awesome and please know you're greatly appreciated. PS. Had a few technical difficulties with mics tonight, not sure why but please be patient. I'm on it.
It feels good to be back in action. Apologies for the lull in shows but things were quite busy over the past few weeks, as we'll get into during the show. Bob and Kevin sit down to review the past few weeks filled with Golden Retriever puppies and a trip to Master National with Memphis, Ember and Cruz. Bob describes the set up for each series and shares how each dog performed. We are proud and humbled with the outcome of this competition and are excited to share it with everyone who supported Lone Duck during The Stashional. I think this show got a little more emotional than we expected. It's an incredible experience when long hours of hard work and grit pays off. As a bonus, we learn about Bob's bowels, too. Happy hunting season and hey, cheers to you guys.
Tonight's show is a good one and certainly interesting. Bob is down at Blaine Tarnecki's house training and they're gearing up for Master National. We talk through the dogs that are running, how they're getting set for the competition and some solid Q&A. Now, the Q&A that we had come through this week was honestly tough. One of the most asked questions we receive is how to be a dog trainer or how awesome is it to "just play with dogs all day." Well, tonight we lift the hood and share with everyone what it's really like. It's unique and I hope you can appreciate the honesty and transparency we're trying to share. PS. The audio was a bit funky but I'm working on it.
Howdy folks. Bob and I sat down last night to talk through his morning walking the fields and dense woods alongside friends and some of our favorite dogs. To my surprise, he actually dropped a couple beautiful birds and he breaks down the whole trip for us, it's a pretty good story. Bob and I also discuss a few housekeeping items, including cool Gunner products and Birdie's pregnancy. If you're interested in a red Golden pup, DM us at @loneduck on Instagram. We also jump into some fantastic Q&A from friends in our community (thanks for writing in and following along!) about all things retriever training and even a little follow up on Huey's Utility Test. We dig into whistle sits, things that can go awry at Junior tests, the best order to run at a test, running blinds and a whole lot more. Crack a cold one, sit down and enjoy-- I know I did.
This week Bob and Kevin review the weekend action over a cold, camo buschhhhh. Bob had an exciting and successful Utility Test with Huey, a gritty, blue collar GSP, so we learn a little about his time with that. We also get to hear about Thinkin' Lincoln's first goose hunt. He did well and it was a great training exercise for everyone involved; we talk about how people could apply this to their own dog's first hunt. Finally, we dig into some big news in the Lone Duck world. Cheers.
Tonight's show features our good friend, Wes Chester. Wes is an incredibly knowledgeable dog trainer down in Georgia and we talk a wholeee lot about HRC tests and what it takes to pass a few of 'em. We also trade a few stories about hunting down south and learn that Wes knows his way around some flooded timber. Bob and I really enjoyed tonight's show and laughed the whole time. Hey, cheers to hunting season.
Wellllllllll it's another fun show of The Gun Dog Chronicles. Bob and Kevin talk through some of the highs and lows from our weekend hunt test with Junior and Senior dogs. Some dogs crushed it and unfortunately, other dogs had off days but hey, that's why training is a continuous, evolving effort. Next we flip on an Instagram live session to answer questions from friends in the training community and dig into a few good discussions.
This week we have our first two-timer with Clark Kennington. Bob and Clark get into a lengthy discussion about how he is gearing up for this year's Super Retriever Series (09/25). Listen carefully because there's a lot of awesome tips and tricks about teaching blinds properly, wagon wheel drill, prepping for the SRS and hunting season, Clark's expectations of the test and a whole lot more.
This was a really interesting episode and I hope you enjoy. Cheers to you.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin chat with Shannon Nardi about the upcoming Super Retriever Series. We learn how things first got started almost 20 years ago and all the changes from then until now. Shannon tells throwback stories from shooting Water Dog and even sheds a little light on her 7 month old pup, Peach. We're really excited for the SRS and grateful that we had the chance to catch up with Shannon-- she's certainly a hard working and inspirational person in our industry.
Welcome to another fun episode of Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles. This week, Bob and I asked YOU for some questions and boy did we receive some goodies. We had questions range from tips on force fetch, ecollar suggestions, puppy training, verbal vs silent casting, chomping on birds and a lot more. We recorded this show while doing an Instagram Live and if you're ever on there during one, please say hello!
Tonight is very special because we sit down to diagnose a few duck hunting illnesses with Dennis and Billy of the Doctor Duck Podcast.
Dennis and Billy share a few stories about hunting together all over the country, how they got started in the world of waterfowl addiction, how the doc got his phd in public land hunting, prescriptions for being a better hunter, duck dogs, coon dogs, pig dogs and a whole lot more.
Warning. This is a great episode.
We get a lot of questions from friends in our community about their first gun dog and how to get the dog set up for success. Well, here's your full breakdown of 0-6 months old with a gun dog. Bob and Kevin walk through the step by step program for ensuring your dog is an obedient, fun & high drive hunting partner. We even joked that this could be an episode people listen to a couple times because it's very informational with tons of how-to's.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin are fortunate to trade a few stories with Addison Edmonds, the founder of Gunner Kennels. This was one of our favorite episodes because Addison is such an easy guy to talk to, he enjoys blue collar hunts like we do, he's a straight shooter and he's incredibly passionate about what he does. We discuss everything from his product and how the company began to his gun of choice and his first memories with Gunner-- the dog who started it all. Dig into this one, it's a good one.
Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to review the day's work over a nice whisky. Bob explains today's training set up and how he coaches dogs through difficult training situations. We discuss the plan for the next hunt test on our home turf and then dig into some fantastic Q&A from the Lone Duck Community. We answer a lot of great questions and even a few solid live ones from those on Instagram. There's a lot of good tips and tricks in this one, if you're looking for some fine retriever training advice. Cheers!
This week's episode of the Gun Dog Chronicles is a goody. Bob and Kevin talk about the past few hunt test weekends and how all the dogs are performing. We get into a little Q&A from the Lone Duck community and discuss a few things like life vests for dogs, intro to water, T pattern advice, why our pigeon system stinks and a lot more.
On this week's episode of Lone Duck's Gun Dog Chronicles, the guys chat with their good buddy, Ethan Pippitt (and his son), of Standing Stone Kennels.
