We are here to help you develop best practices for building great client/customer relationships. Hosted by John & Angel Ondo with their decades of marketing and customer service experience. John & Angel Ondo. John is a four-time Emmy award-winning TV/Film Producer. Angel leads customer service teams during the day and runs a home-based cupcake business on the weekends. On each episode we discuss Branding, Marketing, Media Ideas and we always throw in a food recipe or tip, because food is about relationships. New episodes drop on Thursdays.
More interesting than the actual game, the commercials on this year's Super Game made some impressive statements. John and Angel review their favorite ads based on how well they made the connection between the brand and the content.
John's commercial and documentary background leads to his belief that its not enough to have a memorable ad, it must remind you of the actual brand who made the ad.
Fresh out the morning after the game, we review these ads and you can also listen to our podcast each week on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon, and anywhere you can listen to a podcast.

Welcome to episode 75 of Marketing Media & Cupcakes, where we bring best practices for your business. This week John and Angel discuss best practices for your business. Angel has been training staff at her Fortune 500 company for many years. Traning is critical to having a consistent voice for your customers and clients. She shares 4 quick tips that can help your training be more effective. John is a licensed drone or (UAV) pilot. Aerial photography is a great way to enhance your business's brand when you can show beautiful aerial shots of a car dealership or commercial property or just showing off your location downtown. However, there are risks you take when hiring a drone photographer or trying to do these shots on your own. John will explain why you need to take hiring a drone pilot seriously, and what to look for. Also, ways to make your pilot get great shots for you.
Angel's 4 Training Tips 5:30 into the show
1) Setting Expectations for the training
2) Make a schedule that divides, lecture with applied learning. No 8-hour lectures!
3) Hands-on Time, or OJT
4) Web/Computer-based training
If you have additional comments or questions email Angel at angel@marketingmediacupcakes.com What you need to know about hiring a drone photographer at 20:30 into the episode.1) The need to have a UAV FAA license, DO NOT HIRE someone unlicensed
2) Your pilot should have one-million-dollar insurance policy coverage.
3) Create a shot list for your pilot
4) You cannot fly a drone within five miles of an airport, and you are limited to 400 feet above the ground altitude. There are exceptions and a licensed operator will know what they are.

Email remains the most accepted way to connect with business communications. Even more so after 2020 and social media platforms becoming less reliable for existing. Angel reviews her best practices for composing emails.
1) Be clear and concise
2) Proofread
3) Copy back important point or responses
4) Use subject lines keywords to get attention
5) Don't say anything you don't want to regret later
6) If the email has to bounce back and forth more than 3 times, call them.
John repeats the phone calls and emails are still best practices for "first contact" situations with clients or customers. If someone DMs you on LinkedIn or Facebook, direct them to email you at your address.
If people contact you via text or some other platform, tell them your best way to contact you is (is a phone, email, cellphone)
If your cellphone is not for business tell your customers if you give them it, please only use it for emergencies.
Check your email daily. If your business email is on a website or on your business card, and you don't check it often, then remove it from those contacts. You are paid to solve problems
not creating ones but having customers worried that you didn't get a message.

If you're own a business you are going to have a bad review show up in a phone call or post online. How should you respond? John and Angel share their process on how to deal with an upset customer. Angel shares her HEAT process.
H ear
E mpathize
A pologize (not for what you did but for the experience)
T ake Action (do not say what you can't do, but what you can do)
John suggests with online reviews, do not ignore them! You should post online showing you are addressing the issue. Do not get into a post war. If you can't resolve the issue and have it removed by the customer, then you should move the conversation offline. If the post remains, the only way to combat this is to add new legitimate reviews that will reduce the ratio of the bad review and up your rating. Don't have your friends write fake reviews. Have legitimate customers. You should have an active review process to get more reviews. In today's challenging times, it is critical for your small business to have reviews online.

John shares how he made a mistake (well several) in launching his new Podcast Production brand. In many cases, branding mistakes happen not because of one glaring error but several small errors that alone aren't a big deal, but until you see the whole picture, becomes a major problem.
John shares how rolling his Premiere Podcast brand back under Ondo Media was the best choice he could have made.
John's points to avoiding a brand sin are:
1) Make sure you run your brand through another set of eyes, someone who is not familiar with your brand.
2) Make sure you do a thorough check of the domain name, making sure you check for alternate spellings or other markets with similar business names.
3) Separate brands need separate phone numbers and addresses or Google will count that against you.

Since the market correction of over 4,000 points on the DJIA many people and businesses are in fear of what is next? We speak with Jason Stump, Otterbein MBA, and host of the Agile Finance Radio podcast.
Some of the highlights we covered with Jason about the stock market and the corona COVID-19 virus outbreak. How does the current stock market roller coaster compare to other crises like the October crash in ’87 or the crash in 2009? Jason says this correction is nothing like the recession of 2007.
Banks and Financial Institutions crashed in 2007, this seems to be a “fear”, not a fact-based crisis, could that mean we will recover quickly? Jason says that this could be a factor for some brick and mortar stores. Restaurants could be struggling depending on their locations with the coronavirus outbreak.
John spoke with several certified financial planners including a long-time friend who has been an advisor in the financial markets for over 35 years.
*PLEASE NOTE JOHN AND ANGEL ARE NOT FINANCIAL ADVISORS OR COUNSELORS, THEY ARE JUST SHARING INFORMATION THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THEM AND WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED IN THEIR PERSONAL AND BUSINESS EXPERIENCE. WE RECOMMEND YOU CHECK WITH YOUR BANKER OR A QUALIFIED FINANCIAL ADVISOR FOR SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR SITUATION. ***
Observations are that this is NOT lost money, but pinned up money. The consumers will not be spending this discretionary income now but will hold it until later. So that money will come back into the market.
This is a fear-driven correction, it's not because there is something broken in the financial markets, in fact, the markets are very strong.
Things that are good right now:
1, LOW ENERGY PRICES! GAS PRICES ARE LOW! MORE MONEY IN CONSUMERS POCKETS
WE'VE BEEN TOLD THAT YOU SHOULDN'T GET BUSINESS LOAN NOW UNLESS YOU HAVE A PROVEN PROOF OF CONCEPT TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS. BUT IF YOU HAVE BEEN THINKING YOUR READY TO EXPAND, THIS MAYBE A GOOD TIME.
We encourage you that this is not a crisis, it could be an opportunity. See out good advice and look at all your options. Don't assume that things are bad, it's bad for everyone. We want you to continue to live the dream with your small business! Contact John & Angel to be a guest on your podcast!

Angel presents her 4 "Don'ts" for you to transform your customer service into a customer experience.
Interrupt: This is a bad thing in general conversation but definitely not smart when dealing with your customers. If a customer is trying to ask a question or explain a situation let them finish their thoughts. I know this is hard for some people. You want to jump to the solution or make an assumption on what the customer needs. A large amount of time will be wasted if you don’t take the time to get to the heart of what the customer is asking.
Blame Game: If you are attempting to resolve an issue for your customer, blaming others will make you and your company look bad. Take ownership for the situation and apologize for it. I am not saying you personally are to blame but telling the customer you are sorry for the situation or you understand how frustrating the issue may be is highly effective. However, telling a customer some department or group of people are to blame is cowardly. Keep the issues simple and stick to the facts. Blaming gets you know where quickly.
Taking it personally: This is a tough one. If someone is yelling at you or saying, “you did this or that”, it can be hard to take. Keep calm and listen. Wait for the customer to finish their thoughts and go from there. If a customer becomes verbally abusive you are within your rights to polity tell the customer, you will not be able to help them if they continue to behave in that manner or use certain language. This is always a 50 50 shot on how the customer will respond. The hope is always the customer will realize they need to keep thing professional.
“Can you hold please”: This can be effective when you need to sneeze, cough or ask someone else a question. But always be sure to ask the customer if you can put them on hold and if they agree give them some idea of how long you will be gone. Nothing can escalate a seemingly normal interaction quicker than putting a customer on hold for a lengthy period of time. This could turn what would have been a normal interaction into one you would rather not have.

Angel shares her 25+ years as a Customer Service representative and training call center team members with you. In this episode she shares her Four "Do's" for customer service. Make your best practices for your company by listing to this episode.
Listen: I can’t say enough about how people need to listen to their customers. However, it's more than just the words they are saying we should pay attention to but the tone in the voice or the pace at which they are speaking. Listen. Are they upset, confused or unsure? Listening is the key to understanding your customer needs.
Probe: Ask questions and more questions. Effective probing is necessary and required if you are going to get to the heart of what the customer needs. Do they need to place an order, is there an issue with a previous order or is there something else they just aren’t sure how to ask?
Take action: Tell your customer what you are going to do. Don’t waste their time with all the things you can’t do but focus on what you can do. Customers are not interested in hearing about company policies or rules you have to follow. They only want to know what you can do for them. Find those things you can control and do those things for your customers. They will thank you for it.
Follow up: If you promised to back with a customer DO IT. Nothing speaks volumes to a customer more than doing what you said you would do. This shows you truly want to resolve their issue.

One of the best features is that it offers tons of pre-made templates that are sized specifically for all sorts of social media or major online platforms, so someone like me with little design experience can maintain a professional brand aesthetic anywhere.
Freshbooks - It’s very important that you maintain that professional branding on everything including your invoices and billing. When I started my business I struggled a lot because I couldn’t find a invoice/expenses system I could understand, but Freshbooks was a God send; they have these free invoice templates you can download and customize for your business.

John Ondo, filmmaker/tv producer, shares several ideas from his 37 years of award winning television experience about how you can better connect with your audience with media. Whether is posting a video from your phone to social media, or using a professional production company, the content is the same.
Content Is King
-Testimonials are a must
-Get a reveal moment with your product and a customer
-The Before & After (works for makeovers, construction, weight loss)
-The written testimony
All these ideas and more can make your business website insanely popular. You need the algorithms and hashtags, but if you don't have great content, you have nothing. And the best content is testimonials.
