If you've partied in the alternative and underground industrial scenes in Toronto and Southern Ontario, it's more than likely you've heard of Dreamstate Seven. From stomping industrial dancefloors, to psytrance-laden forests, to dark groovy noisy subterranean beats, Dreamstate simply loves to share the sounds of all things electronic, all things grooving, always with a particular emotive edge.
But don't think it's all just DJing.
Though Dreamstate Seven is synonymous with the bouncy, animated, colourful, beat-spinning creature, the performance aspect goes beyond the decks. 7 years of commanding the keyboards for Nanochrist resulted in countless rocked crowds across Canada and surprisingly little liver damage.
Inspired by the emotion from all walks of genre, Dreamstate continues to produce solo work, with the first official release "Semblance" due in early 2014. Inspired by the uplifting side of chillout, ambient, new age, and even dubstep, "Semblance" will be one of the best demonstrations of the strange, weird, and always unexpected influences that drive the passion to create, perform, and share.
A progressive breaks track with that signature Dreamstate Seven ... dreaminess. This one came together during a bit of a bender of classic progressive trance sets from the mid 2000s.Much love to Chad Skinner @ Sun Rain Music for the elegant mastering.

Returned from Neotropolis -- the cyberpunk LARP festival in the Mojave desert--and the inspiration was to capture the essence of missions our characters were running. Started as a 4-on-the-floor midtempo/dark synthwave tune -- but I wanted more of a chronicle. Dusted off the orchestra libraries and got to work scoring. As the professional pictures got posted from the fest, the lyrical inspiration hit hard and fast.

2225 — The first voyage to Kepler-609c and the shining city of Neotropolis for our crew — already an experience beyond words and beyond worlds — but then Dreamstate getting to throw down high-octane full-fury psy-fi trance for the creatures and lifeforms of the famed and illustrious Kaiju Nightclub?? 😃Literally — could. not. even. It got a bit touch and go when the ionic rains threatened to keep the club quieter — but the skies cleared just in time, and we opened the stage with — wait, WHAT was that intro? ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つFor the Toronto crew and existing followers of Dreamstate Seven — the playlist will probably sound a little familiar. I pawed through the tracks to find some selections that would fit well with all things Sci Fi, Cyberpunk, and well … Kaiju! As the crowd gathered momentum, I found myself pulling together almost this retrospective of my favourite tracks of the past few years. Blasting these sounds across the sands of the desert had me ecstatically bouncing away like they were cuts fresh off the datastream.Megaton love to Omega11xx and Sparks of Kaiju for bringing the thunder to the sands of Kepler! And a hell yeah level of love to all the factions, citizens and denizens of Neotropolis that came along and tore up the dancefloor! Does it feel lighter in here? ❄PsyLush brought us together for another Winter Solstice gathering, and it was nothing short of stellar, enchanting, and uplifting. A new space that yielded adventure, a bouncing community of revellers, and a top notch bill of entertainment, deco, and visuals -- I can't think of a better way to welcome back the light. 🔥I had posted about leaning into a bit more spirit and soul for this set in the days leading up to the event. The results speak for themselves -- the first 30 minutes or so are steeped firmly in the progressive psytrance sound, perhaps even bordering on progressive trance with all the melancholy melodies and venerable vocals -- but making sure to dust some danceable driving basslines in there as well to keep our feet moving. I've always loved trance music -- from acid to deep, from progressive to psychedelic. I'm delighted that we all went on this journey through its flavours and tapestries together. With the longest and darkest nights of the year upon us, what better way to bring the light than with a PsyLush gathering!! The Winter Solstice edition of Psychedelic Sunday was an absolute blast!! A stellar community, an incredible lineup of groovy talent, and held within the beautiful Alternity cafe right at Bloor and St. George in Toronto! While I had originally planned to spin a dark bass set, there was just so much enthusiasm for some of that Dreamstate-styled psytrance that ... well, all this happened! I think we've all felt that the dimmed moods of this season have hit a bit different this year -- so I cannot emphasize just how thoroughly spirit-refreshing this was. Bloom 2022 -- A Nomada and Psylush Project -- A fusion of amazing spirits, forest canopies, and a community that carried a breath of Solstice Gathering vibes.
Originally I had intended to keep things a bit more on the progressive psy with this set -- but with the sunshine of a Sunday afternoon, and with more skilled producers and DJs bringing the psychedelic techno and progressive elements, I naturally gravitated towards a bit more full-on and full open-air psy. While this set doesn't hit the blistering full power psy speeds -- there's plenty of intensity. I blame the dancefloor. Especially you Hala! :D

Absolutely OUT OF THE WORLD!!! The first event from Toronto-based psyLush, teaming up with the powerhouse that is Promise for a Sunday rager. The venue? The fantastic 6 Noble St structure that used to house the Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement. What started as a 3 room gathering of techno, drum & bass, and psytrance, grew to a 4 room experience that took over the entire place! Art installations lined the labyrinthine halls, and truly the festival vibe was brought to us all at a time when we sorely need it (read: late February!)
I could barely contain my excitement and these tracks poured fourth. A progressive start, leading to maniacal full-on end.

A chilly night in February — Dreamstate with a set of CDJs, a USB key, the classic Allen&Heath headphones, and a beautiful, freaky, energized crowd ready to tear the Mod Club’s dancefloor apart!
With it being my first time serenading the Impulse crowd with Dreamy-styled beats, I played the tracks a little close to my chest. There’s a lot of familiar, but certainly not without the usual adventure.

Sunday morning at the Hive for ORP:Solstice 2015!
With the forecast calling for torrential rains, the beautiful blue skies we were graced with were even more wonderfully appreciated.
Typically for my downtempo sets (such as those for the Bazaar), they tend to be a little darker. I didn't want to tote around melancholy on a sunny Sunday morning, so as I prepared tracks in advance, I tried to keep things a bit lighter, while still keeping my signature sound.
Once I filled myself with porridge and coffee and made my way over to the hive with Acerbius, everything shifted and I pretty much decided to take only half of the tracks I prepared, and just winged the rest.
This was the wonderful result.
