The war turns in the Allies favor. Germany begins a retreat on both the Western and Eastern fronts. Japan fights on alone and with almost no resources left.

A defeated Germany was humiliated by the Versailles Treaty. A New Democratic government, the Weimar Republic was hated by almost all the German people. There were hundreds of political parties and they were constantly fighting with each other . Hitler and the Nazi Party appealed to German nationalism and Hitler swore to tear up the Versailles Treaty. Becoming Germany’s. Chancellor, Hitler begins a campaign of anti semitism and leads Germany back to war.
Humanism lay the foundation for even greater accomplishments in the arts and politics. Florence and it’s great family, the Medici were instrumental in the Renaissance.
Humanism marked the intellectual end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance. It emphasized education and a revival of the writings of Greeks and Romans.
The Russian monarchy collapses. Rasputin is assassinated. The tsar abdicates and the Provisional government becomes Russia’s new ruling party. However, the Bolsheviks, led by Lenin see the new government’s weakness and exploit them to force them out of power. The royal family is executed, civil war breaks out, and Lenin establishes a communist government.
The Russian Revolution changed the face of the world. In less than 23 years, Russia fought 2 wars, saw the downfall of a 300 year old dynasty, suffered through a civil war and became the first communist state. The repercussions of these events influence us today.
Eager for the luxury goods of the Middle and Far East, Europeans tried to find faster routes. The Portuguese were successful by going around Africa. The Spanish sailed west and discovered a new world that made them immensely wealthy
Due to the loss of faith during the Black Death, many Europeans loss faith in the church. The church hard pressed to raise money and recruit quality clergy, turned to money making schemes. People sought to reform the church and instead 2 new religions, Lutheranism and Calvinism were formed, splitting European Christianity forever.
Europe drew closer to war due to secret alliances, the assassination of the Astro Hungarian heir to the throne and the world was engulfed in a world war

The Industrial and French Revolutions saw an increase in a wealthy middle class. These people wanted a “a seat at the table.” New ideas soon replaced Enlightenment ideals.
