A podcast about developing personal power and activating excellence in yourself and others ... and doing so with grace, simplicity, and ease to boot đ (this description was updated in Jan 2020, episode 83)
7 keys to the mindset you need to be a coach/parent that empowers athletes + an invitation to you đ
Some food for thought regarding the idea and important of making your bed to start the day.
Why itâs important to do what you can with what you have no matter how insignificant it may seem in the moment.
We always do what we can to stay on top of our game and be at or near our best on a consistent basis ⌠but what about when youâre just not? Thatâs what this episode is about. Hope it serves you. Feel free to forward to anyone you think may appreciate it too
Are you unintentionally holding yourself back from making forward progress, maybe even leaps, in your journey? Hereâs one reason you might be working so hard and getting nowhere, plus, what do to instead. Enjoy!
Sometimes weâre afraid to admit we donât know what to do or donât have all the answers or donât know what the next best step is. But what if thatâs okay? I share more on this in this episode. Enjoy!

Got to chat with Coach Reed for an interview for Impact Nation. Thought you'd enjoy this conversation about the power of our words as parents, coaches, teachers, leaders, how it affects the brain, the emotional state, your relationships, the performance of those you lead. Plus a super simple, yet powerful, shift you can make in your language and communication immediately. All of that is in this episode for you! Learn more about the tools Coach Reed mentions in this episode at https://www.raisetheirgame.com/positive-discipline-tools-for-coaches
Teaching excellence and an obstacle that we can run into as leaders, coaches, parents, etc. This episode was inspired by a conversation I had with a leader who was experiencing frustration and concern in this process with their athlete because the athlete was becoming rather discouraged.
My best tips for maximizing your time and energy when you have a full schedule, a busy life, a ton in your plate, and ânot enough time in a dayâ to get it all done.
Reflecting back over the past year and beyond and well as the past week, sharing some ideas, some concepts, some lessons learned, some works of encouragement that have been incredibly helpful for me and I hope they will be for you too. Enjoy!
Heyyyy, happy 2019! Just popping in to share updates and lessons learned so far this year :)
This Hawai`i girl is heading into the frozen-ness of the mainland US to be part of some epic events! BUT, as you can imagine, things donât always go perfectly when heading into these kinds of things. So, listen in to hear about the attitude adjustment I needed to give myself and what that has to do with you :) Enjoy!

Breaking down some misconceptions about the college recruiting journey, a common issue that blocks performance for some athletes, some mindset shifts around these areas. Plus, various ways I'm here to support you through this incredible, but not always easy journey <3
I took a few minutes to ask my younger kids about sports and how they feel about their older siblings being involved in sports. Heres what they had to say ...
Simple exercise you can to do lay the foundation for actually having the great season you really want. This one is short and sweet. Enjoy!

Fun chat with Gordon Maclelland from the UK, CEO of WWPIS (Working With Parents in Sport)!
I enjoyed hearing Gordon's perspective on being a sports parent, the experience that sparked the development of the Parents in Sport website, who he feels the greatest influence is in a child's youth sports experience, some tips on what to do when your child makes mistakes and/or doesn't seem to be giving their very best effort, and all kinds of other great concepts for parents to keep in mind as we navigate this competitive world of sports with our children.
Visit Gordon's website at https://www.parentsinsport.co.uk/
Read an interview featuring Coach Matt Lisle and his thoughts on giving athletes permission to fail in order to help them succeed and that sparked the thoughts shared in this episode. Playing to win, playing to not to lose, and how that relates to fear based "motivation" vs the alternative. Kept it short and sweet for this one! Enjoy and also check out the article I'm referencing at https://inside.heja.io/permission-to-fail-how-to-help-young-athletes-succeed-7b5525752e12
I have a 2017 grad and a daughter scheduled to graduate in 2019. Who would've thought that I'd be filling out a FAFSA for a new college student in 2018? My daughter, who graduated last year, and decided to go to work instead of college, now had another chance to possibly get back on the mat and become a collegiate athlete. We shall see where this goes đ
Such great discussions and insights shared today on FB on this exact topic. I'm bringing some thoughts here for you to ponder and reflect on as you aim to have a powerfully positive impact in our world :)

What are you looking for? Because whatever it is, there's a good chance you'll find it! More on that here :) Enjoy!
Why I loved taking pitches, what I was learning, a simple thing hitters can do to improve their pitch indentification, digging deep into learning processes, developing a FEEL for the game, the thing that disrupts that, and more! Enjoy <3
When you find yourself in situations you're uncertain about, finding positive self talk statements that you actually believe in can be a bit tricky. Here are some ideas on how to navigate that, plus thoughts on new expeiences, letting yourself dream, sharing goals, and are you using these positively focused concepts in helpful ways? Or are you just making excuses? Hmmmm ... lots to think about as I invite you to do some of the gut checks I've been doing recently :) Enjoy!
Short and sweet, this one is for athletes. What if every day was game day? Please excuse the audio, hopefully you're able to hear it well enough. Enjoy! :)
Youth athletes and their fear of possibly disappointing people they love most, lets make this a non-issue.
Olesya Wilson from Mind Over Body talked with Coach Jenn Starkey about what's going on INSIDE the body of the female athlete. In this episode you'll hear 3 of my takeaways, the question a chiropractor had about all my kids, thoughts on high pressure tactics for high level performance, and a whole bunch more. Enjoy this episode and watch Olesya's whole interview at https://www.facebook.com/coachstacie/posts/10160540279865624 :)
Lessons learned in college. Things to know as you head into it. What it means and what to do when you find yourself firmly outside of your comfort zone and/or things arent going the way you want. What happened when I missed a bunch of ground balls in practice one day, and more. Enjoy!
The reminder life gave me about gratitude. Thoughts on trying, failing, learning, when the take chances, when to play smart, your attitude about all that and the effect it has on your team AND, possibly, your coaches decisions on whether or not to play you :)
Shout out to Jocelyn Alo who, as of this episode, leads the NCAA DI in HRs as a true freshman. Plus, getting through tough stuff and the families that inspired me this week :)
Get some additonal insights sparked by a conversation with Coach Christen and Coach Jenn. Thoughts on fear, trust, developing confidence, and some truth about leadership inspired by Wayne Goldsmith and his book, "Leading Without Leading."
Really though, what's the rush. We tend to be in such a hurry about everything and it's not helping. Plus, how can you create a positive result with negativity?
Fun chat with Rene Longoria from Gameday Coffee which is a company that promotes positive, encouraging connection within families. They believe that conversations of courage can take place over a simple cup of coffee on the day of a game, match, performance, recital or meet.
In this episode, we touch upon why Gameday coffee got started, Muhammad Ali, karate, the concept of TIME and how much we really have (or don't), family matters, fathers and the staggering statistic that moved Rene and is a big part of his WHY for being involved with the mission at Gameday Coffee. We talked about getting through the tough stuff of life, the importance of connection within families, the curveball business threw at Rene, why a law firm wanted to partner with Gameday Coffee, and quite a bit more. I know this all sounds very serious, but we actually laughed quite a bit in this episode. I hope you do too!

Hot topic of the month is college recruiting, especially with what's going on with NCAA rules and regulations. Thoughts on exposure and pressure in our world of youtg sports and how WE can help our athlete(s) through it, that's what's in this episode for you :)
Two things that are greatly underestimated and underrated in our society are joy and play. This comes on the heels of our FB LIVE interview with Coach Reed Maltbie from Changing the Game Project. I just wanted to highlight a few things that came up in that interview as well as dive a little deeper into a couple key concepts, like that one of CONNECTION. In this episode, you'll find out what some of the missing pieces may be when it comes to building that connection we need to be effective leaders in their lives as well as some thoughts that can help you maximize the value of play and joy in this journey of sports and life.
Athlete's attitudes aren't the only ones that matter. In this episode, we talk about some common sports parent pitfalls, how to avoid them, and what one of your greatest assets is as a parent. Are you making the most of this super power? Find out in this episode :)
It's not just winnkng efforts that inspire. This weekend, I was actually inspired by a losing situation, and not just a loss, but a mercy rule loss. That might sound strange, but I think you'll understand once you hear why. Plus, you'll get to hear about a new addition to our family (that I honestly was trying to avoid) and how this new addition is growing on me :)
It's Thursday, but the universe seems to think it's curveballs galore day. Even my recording of this episode had an unexpected interruption which you'll hear about. Plus, a few tips on what to do and what not to do when a plethora of curveballs come your way all in one day. Happy Thursday!

What's Wonderful Wednesday: one day late. This is what happens when uou do everything except press the "publish" button. eek I hope you enjoy the invitation for you in this episode and the words on encouragement dealing with less than ideal circumstances. How are you responding when things don't go the way you want? And what's the impact that makes on your child/team?
Reminders that came up for me on this fine Monday. How you can be more solution oriented rathee than going down the rabbit hole of worry and problems and fear and negativity. You'll hear how one word can help change that. Plus, hear some words of encouragement about your gifts, the value of using them, and the issue some athletes run into when it comes to what they're great at :)
There had been a LOT said about participation trophies and 8th place ribbons, but THIS side of the issue rarely gets attention.
For further consideration, check out the blog post published way back in 2015 on this very same issue: http://staciemahoe.com/2015/08/19/participation-trophies-are-not-the-problem/
Feel free to leave a comment there with your thoughts :)

Can you answer this ONE question honestly? Are you willing to get real with yourself about it or are you trying to avoid the truth?
Fun episode on this Happy Aloha Friday (aka Just for Fun Friday). We always talk about how lessons in softball apply to life, right?
Well, in this episode you'll hear about how a friend and I came up with "rules" for dating based upon softball. We refer to them as the Diamond Dating Rules.
Granted, you may not need these for yourself, but you may have children that are at the age where they're beginning to get into relationships. While these may not really be the "rules" you set for them, it could be a fun way to break the ice for a conversation on the topic and/or a lighthearted way to remind them of important things to consider along the way :)
When "positive people" have bad days. This is what it can feel like and this is what I realized, remembered, did, grew in, learned in the process :)

We're talking with Ian Jones, founder of Top Recruit. You get a peek into how Top Recruit came about, some of the early struggles the company faced, as well as where they're headed. Plus, Ian shares some really cool insights from his experiences as a kid, as an athlete, in the world of college recruiting, and in business.
There's lots of talk about early specialization, but there seems to be some confusion about how that actually looks and what the real issues are. Some families are still going down the early specialization road. Others are going in the opposite direction. Neither end seems to grasp the concept. This episode includes additional thoughts on each end of the spectrum as well as ideas to keep in mind as you're going through this journey with your children and trying to figure out the "right way" to do this. Don't overcomplicate it :)
Fun mashup episode on attitudes, what really matters, goals, confidence, perspective, getting your child to do stuff, other peoples opinions, and more. Enjoy!
Real talk: feeling frustrated and irritated with other people and what helped me in this most recent incident when I was feeling annoyed because other people just don't "get it!" This curveball doesn't have to ruin the rest of your day!
Super fun chat with sports mom Joy Acaso, who is a parent/child relationship expert here to help us strengthen and build our relationship with our child. We talk about WHY this is important, various ways we inadvertently break down our relationships, and ways we can do better :)
W00t! Hot topic! When can kids start lifting weights? In this episode, you will hear about some factors that many don't think to consider when they ask me how old our kids are as a way to determine whether or not their child is "old enough" to start lifting :)
The illusion of easy, feeling like failure, mommy guilt, and the truth that you are NOT at all alone <3
Quoting Napoleon Hill in this episode and sharing stories of disadvantages turned into advantages. Is there evidence of this in your life that you can think of? Is there a situation in which you're feeling discouraged or frustrated? This episode of hope is for you :)
Great athletes often go above and beyond whatâs required at practice and competition. Most are putting in extra training on their own time. In this episode, youâll hear thoughts on how to maximize that extra training and get the most out of it in a way thatâs less stressful and more enjoyable for both parents and athletes. Enjoy!
Great conversation with sports mom, teacher, and business owner Georgia Pinto. She talks about positivity and growth mindset while sharing the biggest curve ball life's thrown at her. Georgia talks about both the toughest and most valuable parts of that major curveball. Plus, she tells us about the best part of running her wine business amidst being a mom of many hats. TONS of great insights shared in this meet up, so much that we went well beyond our original 30 minute plan! Enjoy <3

âYouâre so lucky!â Have you ever had anyone say that about you or your child? This is both fine by me and frustrating to me all at once lol. In this episode, youâll hear some thoughts on this âyouâre so luckyâ mentality, how itâs an advantage to you when someone else has it, how itâs holding you back if you have it, and the truth about most of us when it comes to this line of thought :)

Hey Sports Moms! Something a little different for you in this episode. It's a mix of a few short audios on making adjustments, rain, peace & quiet, unexpected wrinkles, live stream request denied, and having a child who makes mistakes. Have fun with this one. Let me know how you like the mix and matched format :)
Thereâs a massive misconception about having to do things you donât like doing. We tend to take this concept out of context and communicate it in a way that isnât helpful. In this episode, youâll find out where weâre focusing on the wrong thing, how we can adjust that focus, as well as the context in which this valuable life lesson really âworks.â (quote mentioned in this episode come from the James Altucher podcast)
Itâs interesting right? We are always looking for some new strategy or tactic or hack that will help us improve our life or our productivity or our results in some way. Recently, Iâve been hearing lots of moms express concern over their childâs struggle as they transition into a new season of life. I wanted to offer some words of hope and encouragement for times such as this â¤ď¸
