Virgil Myers just completed an impressive junior season on the football field. Now he's ready to carry over that success on the basketball court. Ripley High basketball coaches John Kennedy and Derek Mullins are encouraged about their team's prospects. Both have several key players returning and had impressive fall season results. With the middle school wrestling teams coming off back-to-back conference championships, Ripley High coach Matt Smith says he likes the upcoming talent that he sees in the program. Three Ripley grads are playing on the women's soccer team at Fairmont State. Coach Kernell Borneo says he likes to see in-state players in leadership roles for his Falcons.

This is week 10 for Ripley football. Senior lineman Frankie Winter, junior running back Aydin Domico and the Vikings are taking on Point Pleasant in the finale at Memorial Stadium. Ryan Simon has reached the Class AAA playoffs as s Viking player and coach. He adds to his resume Friday as an inductee in the Ripley Football Hall of Fame. Ellie Hosaflook is running in Saturday's WV Cross Country State Meet. It is the third appearance in the event for the Ripley High junior. Lady Viking volleyball racked up 24 wins this season. Junior Emily King talks about the post-season that begins Tuesday in Parkersburg. Milestones were reached this fall with the sports teams at Ripley Middle School. Athletic Director Shane Casto provides the successful recap.

Nine Viking football seniors are going to be honored prior to Friday's game vs Shady Spring. They introduce themselves and tell us their plans after high school. Running back Rick Riddle was a standout during the late '80s. He'll become a member of the Viking Football Hall of Fame on Friday. Lady Viking junior Ellie Hosaflook earned her third appearance in the Class AAA State Cross Country Meet. Coach Jimmy Groves says she turned in a gutsy performance in Thursday's regional race at Cedar Lakes. Coach Brenda Moore's RHS volleyball team won three straight matches this week. The Lady Viking regular season is winding down with matches remaining for The Net and Senior Night. Ripley Middle capped its soccer season with a 3-0 victory over Winfield in the Mid-Valley Athletic Conference playoffs. Everett Kish scored for the 13-1 Vikings. RMS Football Coach Scottie Ullom talks about wrapping up the season on a positive note. The Vikings were big winners on Thursday at GW Middle School.

It's game eight for Viking football, but it's essentially game one for senior Wyatt Simon. The wide receiver is making his comeback this week from a knee injury. Sophomore Chris Jenkins found the end zone last week against St. Albans and he's hoping for a repeat performance this week at Greenbrier East. 'Voice of the Spartans' Jeff Campbell offers his breakdown on the game at Greenbrier East. Senior co-captain Olivia Parsons is a set-up standout for Viking volleyball. She looks back on the season with pride as the team readies for the upcoming sectional tournament. It took some creative scheduling, but Coach Jay Pierson tells us Lady Viking soccer will honor the seniors during a Friday home game against Robert C. Byrd. Mike Shockey is a 1990 RHS grad who lives in Greenbrier County. The 3-sport standout is the golf coordinator at the legendary Greenbrier Resort.

It's week #7 of the high school football season as Ripley travels to St. Albans. Somethings got to give as the 18-game series between the Vikings and Red Dragons is all tied up at 9 wins apiece. Parker Boyd is a 2-way starter for the Vikings. He was injured in the Oak Hill game and sat out the Roane County game, but #7 is back in action this week as a wide receiver and in the defensive back. Former Viking Elijah Miller finds himself as the starting punter as a freshman for the Bison of Bethany College. Oliver Marks is a runner on the Ripley cross country team with impressive academic accomplishments. Viking basketball is in the midst of the fall season. Coach Derek Mullins says the team showed positive signs in a victory this week over Winfield. We get an update from RHS Athletic Director Steve Lough on the new gym floor being installed following flood damage over the summer. In the meantime, the Viking basketball program is having some success away from home this fall as we hear from Coach Derek Mullins.

Virgil Myers is gaining a reputation as a player who makes good things happen for Viking football on offense, defense and special teams. Sophomore Noah Casto came up with a key play last week at Oak Hill. He says the Viking defense will need to slow down the Roane County rushing attack on Friday. Ripley's TV sportscaster Mark Martin travels to venues across the country. He discusses broadcasting Marshall's big win at Notre Dame Stadium. Whether it's on the softball field or the volleyball court, senior Sidney Varney helps the Lady Vikings add to their win total. Ties are fairly common in the sport of soccer, but the Lady Vikings are taking that to a new level. Senior goalie Marissa Triano says there's good and bad aspects to her team's five ties this season. Viking Fest is a marching band competition scheduled Saturday at Ripley High. Ripley senior field commander Elli Hershey describes her role with 'The Pride.' Soccer is in the midst of an impressive season at Ripley Middle. Coach Bob Wilkinson talks about his 8-1 team.

Ripley grad Parker Deem is now in Texas with his family, but the Viking Football Hall of Famer keeps up with his alma mater through Mountain Top Media's livestreaming coverage. Carter 'Mr. Viking' Hall and his teammates are taking on the Oak Hill Red Devils on Friday evening. Emily Dunlap and her Viking cross country teammates are hosting the Covered Bridge Invitational race on Saturday at Cedar Lakes Conference Center. Daniel Scholl scored Ripley's first goal in a 2-0 win over Parkersburg South this week. The Viking freshman talks about the score and the victory. Lady Viking volleyball is on an incredible roll. The Marietta game is not only Homecoming, it has been designated as the U.S. Army Game of the Week in WV. Recruiter James Bulman gives us the details. The father-son due of Jeremy and Steve Buffington is being inducted Friday into the Ripley Football Hall of Fame. Jeremy, a 1996 grad, talks about his career in the Viking backfield. Former Vikings from the early 70's have a special invitation to this year's Homecoming game as we hear from Terry Landis. Ripley senior Mikayla Wriston is a busy athlete this fall. Remy Boyce has made the transition from athlete to coach. Dwayne Merritt is now the principal at his alma mater.

Joe Thacker scored the dramatic winning run in Ripley's first baseball state championship. He reflects on that history-making game in 1997 at old Watt Powell Park in Charleston. Connor Casto improved by leaps and bounds as a Viking high jumper. The sophomore placed second at the recent State Track & Field Meet. Hoop coaches John Kennedy and Derek Mullins plan for a busy summer for their players and for the future of Ripley basketball. The helmets have been fitted and the summer workout schedule is set for Viking football as Coach Steve Sayre readies for season #3.

Jimmy Frashier began his connection with Ripley High athletics as a 6-year-old football manager. He's now wrapping up his tenure as principal. He reflects back on his days in the Blue & White. Ripley High made it to the 'Elite 8' in WV softball, but came up short in the regional finals. Coach Ken Swisher says the school and community can be proud of the Lady Vikings. Former Lady Viking softball player is putting up impressive numbers at Potomac State. The 41-2 Catamounts are headed for the National Junior College Division II championships in Alabama. Viking baseball won 10 of its last 12 games to finish 17-11. Coach Shane Casto reflects on his 12th season at the helm.

Ripley's softball team bounced back to win another sectional championship. Infielder Kaitlyn Swisher talks about defeating Hurricane back-to-back in the finals. Viking baseball topped Parkersburg South 5-2 in Thursday's sectional action. Centerfielder Isaiah Casto made two pivotal throws to gun down Patriot runners at the plate. Ripley Middle's baseball team posted its second straight unbeaten season while repeating as conference champs. Coach Duke Gandee says there may be more to come, too. Several Ripley grads are extending their baseball careers as were hear from Remy Boyce. Ripley is sending numerous track & field runners to next week's state meet in Charleston. Coach Krystle Cunningham talks about the program.

Jerry Howery was among four recent inductees in the Viking Baseball Hall of Fame. He joins Ken Swisher, Nathan Swisher and J.R. Parsons in this year's class. Current baseball player Isaiah Casto helped the Vikings with his glove, pitching arm and bat during a recent win at Point Pleasant. Frankie Winter set a new school record in the discus and the Viking junior is closing in on the RHS record in the shot put. Lady Viking sophomore Opal Huffman helped the team with 3 first-place finishes in the Hurricane Invitational Track & Field Meet. Lady Viking softball is entering post-season play. We spoke with pitcher Sidney Varney and Coach Ken Swisher, who recently reached the 300-win milestone in his 17-year career. Senior tennis player Cole Neal has set his sights on reaching the State Tournament.

He's now president of the RHS Alumni Association.

Track season is 'off and running' this weekend. Ripley coach Krystle Cunningham is 'expecting' good things. Viking baseball assistant coach Frankie Cummings tells us about this season's 'pitching committee.' Elli Hershey is a power-hitting softball outfielder and pitcher. The Lady Vikes were knocking on the state tournament door a year ago and hope to knock that door down this spring. Toryn Scholl returns to lead Lady Viking tennis. Veteran Kyanah Baldwin is being honored in a pre-game ceremony along with teammate Ximena Maya, who learned a new sport and a new language. Two Ripley grads were inducted into the Viking Wrestling Hall of Fame on Thursday. We'll hear from the Class of '79's Boob Lanham and the Class of '89's Tom Bryant.

Sophomore Addi Morrison is a major contributor on the Lady Viking soccer team. Ripley grad Regan Carpenter has playing her second collegiate sport at Concord University. Luke Layhew is still an athlete at the University of Pikeville, but now he's trying his hand at baseball.
