Clocked In. A Working Podcast: Recent Episodes

Created in homage to Working an analogy of interviews in which Studs Terkel collected transcripts of various people talking about their professions and how they perceive their own self-value as a laborer. In 2020, with a global pandemic inflaming tensions among the working class I wanted to discover how some people are working to make ends meet and if during this current struggle there are commonalities on how employment can be improved. In this podcast we discover how people amongst all lines of work are living through these unprecedented times and get insight into their perspective.
My guest on today’s podcast is Jared Picchietti is a friend I met while working as a freelancer at Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights. Jared works regularly as the production supervisor at the NOW Arena in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs, working on a variety of events including home games for the Windy City Bulls. He is also a freelance sound designer and AV technician for other live events around the area. We'll be capping off our talk with Jared by talking about his life as a freelancer and about how it can be difficult to break into a full time position at an live event space. Jared's insight of his craft is valuable to anyone interested in the live event industry and I’m hoping that you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
Today's interview is the first of the "save our stages" series where I will be looking to interview people in the live events and theatre industry who's livelihood was disrupted by the pandemic and to bring awareness to the need to support the arts.
Play shapes how we interact with others and how we learn. For this episode I created a Google Form where people could share some of ways that play has fueled interest in an area of study or career field. With the much appreciated help of a couple of friends and colleagues who submitted their own personal experiences I go over each participants' story and read out a few articles I found on the benefits of play.
