Reparations Music & Lyrics by Geoffrey Short ©Copyright 2020
Verse 1 Your ancestors Did it to mine Centuries later Nothing is fine
Four hundred years The whip and the plow My Great Grandfather’s blood Is on your hands now
CHORUS Pay me what you owe me Pay me what you owe me, pay Pay me what you owe me Pay what you owe Pay me what you owe me You will pay Pay me what you owe me Pay what you owe
Pay me, pay me what you owe me Pay what they owe Pay me, pay me what you owe Reap what they sow Pay me, pay me what you owe me Debt passed to you, it’s coming true You will pay Reparations are due
Verse 2 Sins don’t die when the sinner does You’re the same sinner your grandfather was
(CHORUS)
You’ve been cursed With lifetimes of debt But you ain’t seen the worst Cuz you ain’t paid yet
Be prepared No one spared Their guilt is shared by you
Bodies traded Subjugated This was the deal they made The price must be paid
(CHORUS)
You will pay
A Little Money and Some Lipstick Music and lyrics by Geoffrey Short ©Copyright 2018 Geoffrey Short
Three AM, cold bathroom floor It’s been her bed too many times before. In here there's make-up to cover bruises These Band-aids are the jewelry she always wore
He’s sound asleep but his work is clear The swollen proof is staring back from her mirror His wallet's there, she don't miss a thing She takes the cash, leaves her ring
She runs without a single plan Her whole new life is in one hand
All she had was a little money and some lipstick She couldn’t buy much more than a one-way ticket but she’d look good doin it Time for a little money and some lipstick Better that this loaded gun Either way, he’ll learn
She had to swalllow pride for years Now anger swallows all her fears As the Greyhound swallows highway The nightmare she’s been living disappears
He thinks his name on bills and credit cards Are keys to the prison he guards He thinks there’s power in possessions But he's too weak to own her heart
He controlled the keys and bank accounts But he still can't hold her down
(Chorus)
He tried to own her with his fists Now handcuffs bite into his wrists She’s finally sleeping peaceful on a bus to freedom and healing scars While he is waking up behind bars
All she had to her name was her name she swore It won't be his no more
(Chorus)
