Washington's won 10-straight on the road, six straight on the road trip, and the Nationals took over first place in the NL East last night heading into this weekend's series with the Atlanta Braves. Mike Rizzo and Kris Kline always said Alex Meyer had potential, and the Washington Nationals’ 2011 1st Round pick showed his former organization what he had in a 7-0 win for the Los Angeles Angels tonight in Anaheim. Gio Gonzalez struggled with his command early, and gave up a big home run late, giving up four of the seven runs the Nats surrendered as the Nationals' six-game winning streak came to an end with just the second shutout loss of the season for the NL East division leaders.
The Washington Nationals took their third straight from the Cincinnati Reds and their fourth straight overall in a 14-4 win in Great American Ball Park. Daniel Murphy homered twice in the win and the Nationals hit five home runs total, knocking Homer Bailey out early and cruising to another win. Tanner Roark put together a solid start, though the defense wasn't great behind him, but there was plenty of offense to make up for that. Series finale in GABP tomorrow afternoon at 12:35 PM EDT.
Max Scherzer tossed six scoreless innings and Anthony Rendon jacked two home runs, one of them a grand slam in the Washington Nationals’ 10-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds tonight in Great American Ball Park. A big seven-run seventh busted things open in the second game of four in GABP and the Nationals improved to 54-36 on the season with their second straight win over the Reds. Scherzer reached double-digits in Ks again, btw, and don't ask about Austin Adams' MLB debut...
Bryce Harper provided the power and Gio Gonzalez shut the Cincinnati Reds out over 8 1⁄3 IP in what ended up a 5-0 win for the Washington Nationals in the series and second-half opener in Great American Ball Park. Gonzalez allowed just four hits and got 13 ground ball outs from Reds' hitters in an impressive performance, and Harper hit his 21st and 22 home runs of the season to get off to a good start out of the All-Star Break. Nationals now 53-36.
Max Scherzer put together another solid start, but Rangers’ journeyman Austin Bibens-Dirkx matched him through seven and Texas went up in the eighth and took three straight in Washington, D.C. Scherzer collected his 2,000th K this afternoon, and reached double-digits in Ks for the fourth straight outing, but the Nats' offense struggled to figure Bibens-Dirkx out in what ended up a 5-1 loss. Up next, three with the Atlanta Braves in the nation's capital. Nationals now 38-24. Stephen Strasburg will try to right the ship tomorrow...
Ryan Zimmerman broke up a 3-3 tie with a three-run home run in the eighth. #TKCHZ! Tanner Roark gave up four runs in 7 2/3 innings of work in Oakland as the Washington Nationals took 2 of 3 from the A's and improved to 5-1 six games into their nine-game, three-city road trip, which continues in LA tomorrow night. Koda Glover finished off the eighth when Roark ran into trouble and Matt Wieters and Michael A. Taylor homered in the ninth, 11-10 final. Nationals now 35-20.
Joe Ross struggled again and the Washington Nationals had their four-game win streak come to an end in a 10-4 loss to the A’s in Oakland this afternoon. Ross went just three innings in his third start back in the rotation after a stint in Triple-A. Jacob Turner did the yeoman's work, but got knocked around in his third inning on the mound as the Athletics ran away with this one and set up a rubber match tomorrow in Oakland Coliseum. Nationals now 34-20.
Max Scherzer reached 100 Ks on the season on his 100th pitch of the night on Wednesday night as the Nationals swept the San Francisco Giants with a 3-1 win in AT&T Park. Scherzer went the distance for his first complete game of the season and the seventh of his career and the Nationals took all three from the Giants to cap off a series that started with the face of the Nats' franchise getting plunked by a Giants' reliever. 33-19 overall for the Nationals, who get a day off before playing the A's in Oakland on Friday.
There were no purpose pitches or even unintentional HBPs in the Washington Nationals' second game of three with the San Francisco Giants in AT&T Park, instead the Nats beat the Giants, 6-3, to win the series before the finale tomorrow night. Gio Gonzalez put together a solid start and the Nationals' hitters knocked Jeff Samardzija out early and cruised to a relatively drama-free victory. Max Scherzer is up next in the third of three with the Giants. Nationals now 32-19.
Washington's Nationals took 2 of 3 from the Seattle Mariners in D.C, but dropped the series finale and had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 4-2 loss. Gio Gonzalez put together a solid start, but exited early and Jacob Turner gave up a big three-run HR by Nelson Cruz that lifted the Mariners from a 2-0 deficit and Robinson Cano drove in a run to provide some insurance in what ended up a two-run win. Nationals now 28-18. Up next, three with San Diego starting tomorrow night.
Tanner Roark was winless in May heading into tonight's start against the Seattle Mariners, but Washington's hard-working right-hander put together a solid outing, giving up just one run on eight hits in seven innings over which he struck out eight and collected nine ground ball outs. A four-run first, which saw Anthony Rendon hit a three-run home run (his 3rd HR in the last two games) was all Roark and the Nationals needed as they took their second straight from the Mariners and won their third straight overall. Nationals now 28-17.
In four major league starts this season, Joe Ross has received 62 runs of support. That is not a typo. It is a record. 10-1 Nationals over the Mariners tonight. Ross went eight strong in his return to the majors, giving up just one run on a solo home run in the sixth. Anthony Rendon (2), Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper all homered in the fourth, as the Nationals connected for nine hits and eight runs in a big inning that blew this one wide open. Nationals now 27-17.
Stephen Strasburg threw seven scoreless before running into trouble in the eighth, but the Washington Nationals held on for a sweep-avoiding 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves in the finale in SunTrust Park. With the win, the Nationals also brought an end to a four-game slide. Strasburg struck out 11 in 7 2/3 IP, leading the Nationals to the win and Koda Glover recorded a four-out save to lock it down as the Nats improved to 26-17 overall on the season.
Shawn Kelley worked his way out of a tough seventh, but Enny Romero ran into trouble in the eighth as the Washington Nationals’ bullpen faltered again in a 7-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves. The Nats took each of the first three games in the Braves' new home this season, but dropped their third straight game overall tonight in the first of three with their NL East rivals this weekend, falling to 25-16 overall on the season. Max Scherzer starts tomorrow afternoon in Hotlanta.
Gerrit Cole held the Washington Nationals to one run on three hits in seven innings and a three-run blast by Josh Bell in the sixth was all the offense the Pittsburgh Pirates needed in a 6-1 win. Jacob Turner matched Cole through five scoreless, but ran into trouble in the Bucs' sixth, giving up the blast by Bell. The Pirates' win set up a rubber match tomorrow afternoon in a 12:35 PM EDT game in PNC. Nationals 25-14 after the loss.
A late home run by Bryce Harper gave the Washington Nationals some breathing room and they held on for an 8-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series opener in PNC Park. Stephen Strasburg went 6+ innings on the mound against the Pirates and after some shaky moments, the Nats held on for the win and improved to 25-13 on the year with the victory. Just when it looked like the Washington Nationals’ bullpen had blown another game, Michael A. Taylor hit a two-run jack in the bottom of the eighth to left the Nats to a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, avoiding a second loss today in the bullpen. The Nats took a 4-3 lead into the eighth, but gave up the lead, after a blown save in the day half of the doubleheader, but Taylor's two-run blast saved the day. Nationals now 24-13.
It was tied at 4-4 after eight and a half in the nation’s capital, but the Washington Nationals walked off again, beating the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4 on a Bryce Harper home run. Harper signed a $21.625M dollar deal for 2018 this afternoon, then went out and beat the Nationals' NL East rivals with his second walk-off winner against the Phillies this season. Harper's 11th of 2017 sent the fans in Nats Park home happy and the Nationals improved to 23-12 on the season.
A ninth inning rally helped the Washington Nationals avoid their fourth straight loss as they came from behind to beat the Baltimore Orioles, 7-6. Jayson Werth battled O's closer Brad Brach for 11 pitches before launching a solo shot that got the Nats within one and they loaded the bases in front of former Orioles' catcher Matt Wieters, who stuck the dagger in with a walk-off single that won it for Washington. 7-6 final in the nation's capital. Nationals now 22-12.
The Washington Nationals took a 5-2 lead into the eighth this afternoon in Citizens Bank Park, but Matt Albers left a slider up that ended up sailing out to center for a game-tying three-run home run, and the Philadelphia Phillies won it in extras on a bases-loaded, walk-off sac fly by Freddy Galvis. With the win, the Phillies avoided getting swept in the three-game weekend set and the Nationals headed off to Baltimore 21-10 on the season. The first of two with the Orioles starts at 7:05 PM tomorrow night.
Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon hit two and three-run home runs, respectively, as the Washington Nationals made it two-straight over the Philadelphia Phillies in Citizens Bank Park and four straight overall with a 6-2 win. A.J. Cole wasn't particularly sharp but he limited the damage and got some help from his defense in earning his first win of the season. Rafael Bautista connected for his first hit in the majors as well as the Nats improved to 21-9. One more with the Phillies tomorrow.
Stephen Strasburg, Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon all homered in the Washington Nationals’ 4-2 win over the Phillies in Citizens Bank Park. Strasburg earned the win as the Nationals took the series opener, and the Nats improved to 73-8 overall when the ‘09 No. 1 overall pick starts and receives 3+ runs off support while he’s on the mound. He went 5 2/3 scoreless in a 119-pitch effort as the Nats improved to 20-9 overall in 2017. Two more with the Phillies in CBP this weekend.
Washington Nationals’ third baseman Anthony Rendon went 6 for 6 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in a 23-5 win over the New York Mets today in D.C. The Nationals dropped the first two games of the three-game set in D.C., but made up for it in the series finale, collecting 23 hits, seven home runs and 23 runs total in a long, brutal affair in the nation's capital. Rendon (3), Matt Wieters (2), Adam Lind, and Bryce Harper all hit homers and the Nats cruised to a win, improving to 17-8 on the season
Washington's Nationals took 9 of 10 on their recently-completed road trip, but they've now lost two in a row to the New York Mets at home in the nation's capital. Michael Conforto powered the Mets to a 5-3 win today with two home runs. Stephen Strasburg put in a solid start, and Ryan Zimmerman kept swinging a hot bat, but it wasn't enough for the Nats, who fell to 16-7 on the year with the loss in Nationals Park. One more with the Mets tomorrow in D.C.
Over the last 24 hours in Coors Field, the Washington Nationals (now 15-6) have scored 26 runs in 15-12 and 11-4 wins over the Colorado Rockies. The Nats clubbed their way to their eighth win in nine games on the ten-game road trip tonight, with Trea Turner, Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy homering, Bryce Harper going 4 for 4 and Tanner Roark put together a solid start in Denver. Trea Turner joined Brad Wilkerson and Cristian Guzman on the short list of Nationals to hit for the cycle since 2005 when he hit a base-clearing triple late in the Nationals’ 15-12 win over the Rockies. Washington outlasted Colorado tonight in Coors Field in a 3:26 battle that came after a 1:06 rain delay in the Mile-High City. It was a ridiculous night in Denver which saw the Nats and Rox score 27 runs on 29 hits. Enny Romero somehow got the win... Nationals now 14-6
Washington led 4-1 after 5 1/2, but the Colorado Rockies scored two in the six inning and added two more in the seventh on a Charlie Blackmon home run that was the difference tonight in Coors Field, 8-4 Rockies final. Jacob Turner put together a solid spot start in place of Stephen Strasburg. Ryan Zimmerman homered again. It wasn't enough, however, as the Nationals' seven-game win streak was snapped in the first of four with the Rockies. Nats now 13-6.
Daniel Murphy continues to haunt his former team. Ryan Zimmerman continues to swing a hot bat. Max Scherzer continues to pile up Ks and dominate hitters. And the Washington Nationals continue to win, sweeping their second straight series and winning their seventh in a row tonight in the series finale with the New York Mets in Citi Field. Murphy hit a grand slam early. Zimmerman hit a two-run blast late for some insurance. Scherzer struck out nine in a 110-pitch effort in eight strong on the mound in what ended up a 6-3 win. Nationals now 13-5.
Washington and New York needed eleven innings to decide the series opener, but the Nationals came out on top when Mets' reliever Jeurys Familia issued a bases-loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run. 4-3 final in Citi Field. Nationals now 11-5.

Washington's Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves for the third straight night, sweeping their first series in SunTrust Park with a 3-2 win tonight. Strasburg struck out 10 in seven innings. Zimmerman took R.A. Dickey deep and connected for two of the three hits the knuckelballing right-hander allowed and Shawn Kelley locked down his first save opportunity after a little bit of drama. Nationals 10-5.

Washington took their second straight from the Atlanta Braves in SunTrust Park, with Nationals' starter Joe Ross going seven strong in his 2017 debut in the majors, after he made two starts at Triple-A to start the season. Blake Treinen was shaky again, and he was ultimately lifted after walking in a run after loading the bases in the ninth, but the Washington Nationals hung on for a 3-1 win over the Braves in the series opener in Atlanta, GA's SunTrust Park. Max Scherzer put together another impressive start, throwing 7.0 scoreless on 116 pitches, and after Treinen faltered, Shawn Kelley came on to close out the Nats' eighth curly-W of the 2017 campaign. Two more with Atlanta to come... Nationals now 8-5.
After dropping two of three in Citizens Bank Park last weekend, the Washington Nationals have now splits the first two games of this weekend's three-game set in D.C. Tanner Roark put together a solid start this afternoon and the Nationals rallied to tie it at 2-2 late on a Chris Heisey HR, but the Phillies came right back with a two-run blast by Cesar Hernandez off Joe Blanton putting the Phillies up for good. Nationals now 6-5.
It was all tied up at 2-2 in the 10th when Bryce Harper singled to start the frame and Daniel Murphy followed with an opposite field double that fell in for a walk-off winner as the Washington Nationals took the series opener from the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2 in the nation's capital. Stephen Strasburg put together another solid seven-inning outing and the Nationals' bullpen combined for three scoreless on the way to the win. Nationals now 6-4 on the season.
Bryce Harper kept getting on base, and when they walked him, Daniel Murphy kept making the St. Louis Cardinals pay. Murphy doubled to drive in two runs after a walk to Harper early, homered after a walk to Harper and then doubled to drive Harper in after Washington's 24-year-old slugger hit a double of his own in the eighth. Gio Gonzalez was sharp on the mound, retiring the last 11 batters he faced and the Nationals cruised to an 8-3 win and a 5-3 record on the year.
In an error, hit, and run-filled affair in the nation’s capital, the Washington Nationals outlasted the St. Louis Cardinals and fought their way to a 14-6 win. The two teams combined for 20 runs, 29 hits, and five errors in the series opener of the three-game set in D.C. It took 3 hr 47 minutes to wrap this one up, but the Nats came out on top in the end, bringing an end to a two-game slide and improving to 4-3 on the season with the win.

Stephen Strasburg put together a solid outing, but the bullpen faltered again with Glover falling behind hitters repeatedly and eventually giving up a two-out, walk-off single by Cesar Hernandez that won it for the Phillies. The Nats dropped two of three in CBP in the first road series of the season and fell to 3-3 on the year.
It was a long road back for Jeremy Guthrie, who made his first start in the majors since 2015 tonight in Philadelphia. He didn't last long. Guthrie was out after recording just two outs as the Phillies jumped all over the Nationals' starter, who gave up six hits, four walks and ten earned runs in what ended up a 17-3 loss in Citizens Bank Park. Series finale tomorrow at 1:35 in Philly. Stephen Strasburg vs Jeremy Hellickson. Nationals now 3-2.
The Nationals led 2-0 after seven innings, but the Nats’ bullpen struggled and the Marlins took the series finale, 4-3 in extras.
Tanner Roark struggled early, but settled in, giving up just two runs in six innings in what ended up a 6-4 Washington Nationals' win over the Miami Marlins in the nation's capital. Ryan Zimmerman homered for the first time this season to get the Nats on the board in the second and the Nationals got to Fish starter the second time around, scoring four in the fourth and holding on for the victory to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Bryce Harper and Adam Lind homered late and the Washington Nationals rallied for a 4-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Opening Day in D.C. Harper hit a solo blast in the sixth and Lind, in his first appearance in a Nats uniform, hit a two-run, pinch hit blast to make it 3-2 in what ended up a 4-2 win over the Fish. On the mound, Stephen Strasburg allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings and Sammy Solis and Blake Treinen locked down the win
With Opening Day less than 24 hours away we look back on the postseason and forward to the 2017 campaign. Will the Washington Nationals break the trend of on-again-off-again NL East division titles? Washington’s Nationals rallied late against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers’ pen, but Los Angeles battled back for a 6-5 win to send the NLDS to Game 5. The series shifts back to D.C. on Thursday where Max Scherzer will start for the Nats against an as-yet undetermined opponent in the finale of the best-of-five series.
Washington rallied with a four-run fourth and added four in the ninth for an 8-3 Nationals’ win over the Los Angeles Dodgers and a 2-1 lead in the NLDS. Jayson Werth came up with a big pressure-relieving home run in the ninth after Anthony Rendon hit a big blast early to cap off the four run fourth and the Nationals took a big game from the Dodgers to set themselves up with a chance to win the series on the road or at least take it back to D.C
After the Washington Nationals fell behind 2-0 early in Game 2 of the NLDS with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jose Lobaton hit a three-run home run and Daniel Murphy drove in two in a 5-2 win that evened up the series. Tanner Roark was out early after giving up two runs in 4 1/3 innings, but the Nationals' bullpen held the Dodgers in check after the Nats took the lead. Now it's off to LA with the series tied up at 1-1.
Los Angeles Dodgers' lefty Clayton Kershaw held the Washington Nationals to three runs in five innings, and the Dodgers scored four on Nats' starter Max Scherzer early and held on. LA took a 1-0 lead in the division series with what ended up being a 4-3 win in which Corey Seager and Justin Turner hit big home runs. Game 2 takes place tomorrow afternoon at 4:08 PM EDT with Tanner Roark on the mound against Rich HIll.
Max Scherzer drove in four runs to help his own cause and earned his 20th win of the season in the Washington Nationals’ 10-7 win over the Miami Marlins in Game 162 of 162 this afternoon in the nation's capital. Washington finished the regular season 10-9 against Miami and 95-67 overall on the year. Next up: Game 1 of the NLDS with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday in Nationals Park. Tanner Roark earned his 16th win. Trea Turner did his thing, sparking the Washington Nationals' offense in a 2-1 win, and an LA Dodgers’ loss guaranteed Washington home field advantage in the NLDS, which will take place on October 7th in D.C. at a time that's TBD. With the win this afternoon over the Miami Marlins, the nationals improved to 94-67 overall on the season with one game left to play in the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 3:05 PM EDT in the nation's capital.

Washington’s Nationals and Tanner Roark got knocked around in the series opener with the Arizona D-Backs, losing 14-4, but the big blow was an injury to catcher Wilson Ramos, who appeared to injure his right knee on a throw home in the sixth inning.
