Goals Aloud: Recent Episodes

Goals Aloud

Join Danny Hodges, Jake Sandy, and Jules Singh on their odyssey through the weird and wonderful world of the Premier League. From serious discussions on the socio-political issues that affect the game to venting about all manner of minor annoyances, there’s no stone that will be left unturned in their search for clarity in the often-murky world of professional football.

Goals Aloud: the football show that’s a bit like a conversation in the pub with your mates, just without the drinking (definitely) and fighting (hopefully).

It's Friday and that means it's time for another helping of the Goals Aloud football show to welcome you into the weekend. This week's show is a pre-record from last month and features Danny Hodges, Jake Sandy and Jules Singh discussing their pick for the first inductee of the Premier League Hall of Fame. Also, as a bit of bonus content, they also revealed their choice for a less-appreciated player who is nevertheless still worthy of inclusion.

This show is also broadcast live on BURN FM, the University of Birmingham's student radio station, every Thursday evening from 9-10 - tune in for the football chat you know and love, but also including any bonus content that gets edited out of the podcast version.

It'll take more than a global pandemic to stop the Goals Aloud football show, so Danny Hodges, Jake Sandy and Jules Singh connected via the power of the internet to discuss everyone's least favourite duo: football and Covid-19. On this episode, the gang contemplate how the unfinished leagues should be resolved, how lower league clubs can be financially helped during this crisis, and the long-term impact this situation may have on how football is played and consumed around the globe.

This show is also broadcast live on BURN FM, the University of Birmingham's student radio station, every Thursday evening from 9-10 - tune in for the football chat you know and love, but also including any bonus content that gets edited out of the podcast version.

It's Friday and that means another episode of the Goals Aloud football show in your podcast feed! This week's episode is slightly shorter than usual, but, unlike the format, the line-up in the studio hasn't changed as Jake Sandy is joined by Danny Hodges and Jules Singh. On this week's show, it's a derby special as the gang reflect on last weekend's fixture between both Manchester clubs and look ahead to the (potentially cancelled) game between Everton and Liverpool. Aside from this, there's some chat about José Mourinho's meltdown at Tottenham and debating whether Paul Pogba has a future at Manchester United.

And it's live!!! That's right, the Goals Aloud football show is back once again for another deep dive into the ocean that is English football. Also, this week, there was a special guest joining Danny Hodges, Jake Sandy and Jules Singh as Emily Marshall made an appearance to discuss Tottenham's loss to Norwich in the FA Cup Fifth Round. Aside from this, it business as usual as the gang review last weekend's action in the Premier League and the League Cup Final, and then preview the upcoming (handshake-less) fixtures between the two Manchester clubs in the derby and Wolves vs. Brighton.

Much like a fortnight ago, it's just the dynamic duo, Jake Sandy and Jules Singh, in the studio this week. However, despite their numerical disadvantage, they're still able to conduct their whistle-stop tour of the footballing world with much aplomb. After a brief Premier League review  - featuring opinions on both Aston Villa vs. Tottenham and Chelsea vs. Manchester United - your hosts take a look into Europe to cover the recent exploits of the English clubs involved in the last-16 of the Champions League. After this, it's back to the Premier League as they delve into the upcoming fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham and then they finish with a quick trip to Jules' Fantasy Football Corner.

After last week's experiment with a new formation, the gaffer has decided to listen to the fans and return to the tried and tested trio of Danny Hodges, Jake Sandy and Jules Singh. As it was quite a fallow weekend of Premier League football, the gang start with a preview of next week's Champions League ties as Liverpool head to red and white half of Madrid and Tottenham host RB Leipzig. After their brief jaunt into the world of European football though, it's back to England as they recap the Everton vs. Crystal Palace match then look ahead to this weekend's action with Wolves vs. Leicester, Southampton vs. Burnley, and Chelsea vs. Manchester United all on the agenda.

There's been a slight tactical change this week as the boys have gone from a three-at-the-back system to a centre-back pairing with just Jake Sandy and Jules Singh in the studio. Aside from that, it's business usual as your hosts round-up the latest Premier League news. Starting with a (longer than anticipated) review of the January transfer window, they then move on to discuss a couple of last weekend's biggest games and finish with a look at Liverpool's FA Cup 4th round replay win against Shrewsbury. Also, be sure to listen to the end to find out whether Jules would rather Liverpool have an invincible season or win the Premier League/FA Cup double (the answer may not surprise you).

To borrow a phrase from Irish rock band Thin Lizzy, the boys are back in town (well, technically the BURN FM studio) for their first live show of 2020. It's back to the regular format now as your hosts Danny Hodges, Jake Sandy, and Jules Singh discuss the latest developments in the world of the Premier League. As well as this, they took a brief look at the Chelsea's FA Cup victory over Hull City, discussed Swansea City's performance in the Championship this season, and visited Jules' Fantasy Football Corner for the first time this new decade.

The gang is back for one final bonus podcast before their return to regularly scheduled programming next Thursday. This week it's the return of football hypotheticals, so join Danny, Jake, and Jules as they discuss the players that never quite lived up to the hype that surrounded them early in their careers. Tune in to hear Jake singing the praises of José Mourinho's first stint at Chelsea (again), Jules revealing which member of the Liverpool "Spice Boys" he believes wasted their potential, and Danny making a valiant effort to recall the career trajectory of Ravel Morrison.

And just like that, the boys are back! As the regular show won't be back on air until the 30th of January, the gang have made the executive decision to keep the current format and do a couple more bonus podcasts in the interim. This week it was just Danny and Jake in the studio for a bumper edition of the show where they discussed how Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham got on over the festive period. Check it out to hear Danny's take on whether Tottenham can make it into Europe, Jake singing the praises of Reece James, and a somewhat bizarre tangent about Renato Sanches (remember him?).

It may be a new year, but it's business as usual for Goals Aloud as the boys are back with another bonus episode. This time around it's just Danny and Jake in the studio as they discuss some football-related hypotheticals. Tune in to find out which teams they would promote and relegate, what they think Jack Wilshire could have become without his injury woes, and which ex-players they would like to turn out for their clubs in 2020.

Oh my god, we're back again! After an unintentional two week hiatus due to a technical problem that lost 90 minutes of footage (cheers SAM Cast), the gang has returned for the first of three bonus episodes of Goals Aloud to tide you over until their triumphant return to the airwaves in January. As this is the final episode of the 2010s, they took a look back over the last 10 years of the Premier League to decided on their best XI. Featuring lively debate and some spicy takes - this is certainly a great episode to see out the decade.

Apart from this, it's business as usual as the gang look over two gameweeks worth of Premier League action including Manchester United vs. Tottenham and the Merseyside derby.  After this, the show ends, as always, with the Premier League preview as your hosts look ahead to the Manchester Derby and Norwich vs. Sheffield United.

It's back to normality this week as, following a period of squad rotation, the gaffer has finally decided on their preferred starting line-up for the upcoming festive period.  So join Danny, Jake, and Jules on yet another odyssey through the weird and wonderful world of the Premier League.  Starting with a recap of last weekend's fixtures, the gang discuss the abject performances of West Ham and Manchester United, and Chelsea's narrow loss to Manchester City. After this, they look ahead to the next two gameweeks with Marco Silva's future, José Mourinho's return to Old Trafford, and the Merseyside derby all on the agenda in this bumper Premier League preview.

Note - This episode was recorded on Thursday (28/11/19) so all the chat about Unai Emery is now out of date as Arsenal (rather inconsiderately) sacked him the following day.

There’s a new signing in the studio this week as Danny, Jake, and Jules are joined by their first-ever guest, Amy Purser, as they reflect on the previous week’s developments in the footballing world. Starting with a brief mention of the managerial change at Spurs (which is covered in far more depth in this week’s bonus episode), they quickly change tack and look over the successful Euro 2020 qualifying campaigns for both England and Wales. After this foray into international football, the gang turn their attention to the Premier League as they preview the Manchester City vs. Chelsea and Aston Villa vs. Newcastle games.

It’s a brave new dawn for the Goals Aloud podcast team as they make their first foray into the world of pre-recorded podcasts. To kick off this (hopefully) semi-regular occurrence, your usual hosts, Jake Sandy and Jules Singh, are joined in the studio by die-hard Tottenham Hotspurs supporter Amy Purser to discuss the recent events at the club. Delving deeply into the big topics like Mauricio Pochettino’s shortcomings and the potential pitfalls that lie ahead for both his successor, José Mourinho, and the club itself – this is certainly not a show to be missed.

Like all good teams, there's been some squad rotation in the studio this week as Jules has been to watch England play at Wembley. Nevertheless, Danny and Jake are still on hand to provide the cutting analysis that you've come to expect from the show. The Premier League review this week focuses on both ends of the table as the Liverpool vs. Manchester City and Norwich City vs. Watford match are both discussed in detail. After this, the dynamic duo takes aim at the upcoming international fixtures for both England and Wales, and offer their (in some cases quite controversial) early predictions for next summer's European Championships.

The gang are back in the studio to offer their insight into yet another exciting week in the footballing world. This week, the Premier League review section focused on teams outside of the conventional top-six, with West Ham, Newcastle, Sheffield United and Burnley all getting their turn in the spotlight. The previews for the upcoming weekend's fixtures do, however, revert to type as your hosts talk through Liverpool vs. Manchester City and Leicester City vs. Arsenal. You can also listen to our first foray into discussing European football as Jake leads the others down a Chelsea-based rabbit hole.

It's the Goals Aloud Halloween special as the boys discuss their favourite spooky footballer name puns. Since that segment only lasts about 45 seconds, the rest of the podcast is business as usual as they look over last weekend's Premier League results, review the midweek Carabao Cup action (including that Marcus Rashford free-kick), and preview some of the upcoming fixtures.

On this week's edition of Goals Aloud, the gang reflects on their surprise results of the weekend with Manchester United managing to get a draw against a heavily-favoured Liverpool team and Arsenal losing away at newly-promoted Sheffield United (although, as they found, perhaps calling that result surprising is slightly tenuous). Elsewhere, there was also their Premier League preview, more of Jules' fantasy football tips, and Danny giving his predictions for this weekend's South Wales derby.

On their debut outing, Danny, Jules, and Jake take a look at the recent international break and look ahead to the upcoming weekend's Premier League action. With topics ranging from serious issues like the racism England faced in Bulgaria and the Dan James head injury, to more lighthearted ones such as the gang's most hated teams and some fantasy football chat. If that's not tempting enough, you can also tune in to this episode for an utterly outrageous shout by Jules about Joe Gomez which is well worth hearing.
