When Diana Joseph checked all of the boxes to enter dental school, she couldn’t fathom that she would be rejected. Becoming a dentist had been Plan A since Diana could remember, and being waitlisted and afterwards rejected threw an enormous wrench into her plans. Facing uncertainty and doubt in her career path, Diana had to learn how to push through rejection, stay positive, and trust the process as she discovered her new direction. Using her resources, strengths, and connections, Diana decided to transition into Medical Sales which led her to working for Stryker and finding what she loves. The NCSU course titled Career Exploration & Development, also known as USC 202, is a course designed to help students unsure about their career find the right path. Isabelle Rocco and Jack Banask are two alumni of USC 202, and both have successfully found career success. Jack Banask, after graduating with a degree in Human Resources, went on to work at SAS and currently Ernst Young (EY). Isabelle Rocco completed her degree in Public Relations, with a minor in Non-Profit Studies, and now works for Proverbs 31 Ministries. As a chemical and biomolecular engineer major with a passion for wellness and sustainability, she navigated her career journey by taking chances, trying new things, and learning to rebuild herself after being pushed down more than once. Stronger than ever, Avi has advice on how she took each rejection as an opportunity to grow and view these hardships as learning experiences that ultimately shaped her career journey for the better. Rejection may seem undesirable, but how you move forward will bring powerful personal growth!

As a cinematographer for the Seattle Seahawks, Eric was able to fuse his personal aspirations with his career aspirations by expanding his professional network, maintaining valuable connections, and keeping an open mind for opportunities! By learning to ignore imposter syndrome, he was able to believe in himself and shine as a genuine character - ultimately, landing him a job in a field that he loves. Cassidy Celeste, a member of the NCSU wolfpack, had her life planned out until a medical illness suddenly hit her. While the quarantine is a temporary situation, Cassidy's situation is long-term and knows very well what it is like to have a life she had once known turn upside down. Listen to Cassidy's advice on how she managed to stay strong and push forward to make the best of her life, from adjusting to major life changes, to conversing with support groups, to truly allowing herself to feel her emotions, to creating her own routines and happiness. We heard Liv Adam’s awesome success with co-ops and Tesla (check out episode 38), but we have another amazing NCSU alum success story highlighting the power of co-ops! Terence Chandler, an Electrical Hardware Engineer at Northrop Grumman, took a leap with the co-op program - literally - and had to move to Cincinnati, OH. Even though he had to adjust to a new environment (and -10 degree weather), Terence gained valuable work and life experience with a better sense of self. By pushing himself out of an introverted comfort zone, he learned that he could adapt to a new social, professional, and personal life to enjoy the process and make the most of his experience!
