Apologetics is the defense of the Christian faith. We discuss anything from why we believe what we believe, to Biblical Eschatology (study of end times). The bible is the "Sword of the Spirit", so we're armed and ready!
Darin is a husband, father, and grandfather of four who enjoys apologetics. Joel is a husband, father, and pastor who loves to see other people love Jesus.
Join us (and our occasional guest) for a fun, enlightening Podcast, where we give the basics, but point you to deeper studies and resources. We take God and His Word seriously; ourselves, not so much!
https://www.youtube.com/@flamingswordapologeticsWe review an online discussion Darin (Flaming Sword) had with Jeremiah Nortier (AKA Apologetic Dog) on whether or not Doug Wilson believes that Full Preterist are Christians. We also review a video discussion between Doug Wilson and Ward Fenley, that clearly answers this question.
We'll let the audience decide, but it seems clear to us that Wilson rejects Full Preterism as unorthodox and a serious error, but that does not mean they are not in Christ.

Joel and Darin wrap up their series on what some consider a "heretical" view of Eschatology (study of the end times) in our normal fast paced, with touch of humor way. Next week, we have a guest to discuss the doctrine of Conditional Immortality!
We hope this series at the very least, showed that Jesus's prophecy of Him coming back to that generation was fulfilled in AD 66-70, which was the tribulation period that both Jesus and the Apostles and the Old T were all pointing to.

We continue to discuss Matthew 24 and the fact that it was Old T Israel who were warned of tribulation to come on them for their disobedience. We get into some of the events of AD 70, which were horrific, and show that the timing of that event directly corresponds to what Jesus had said, thus not only proving the prophecy, but demanding that at the very least, this was a coming of Jesus.

Here we pick up where we left off and continue going through the Olivet Discourse and discussing what the New T authors meant by "world", with the gospel already being preached to everyone then. Yes, we'll prove it, Paul even said it. Who was the tribulation coming to? It wasn't us, it was them! Jesus was coming back then, just as He said.

We interrupted our Bible Study in Colossians for a special Christmas time treat. Carmine Hetrick was back and this was a very thought provoking and interesting presentation on what the star of Bethlehem may have been. This is one of those episodes we could have went on and on in discussion. While no one but God knows for sure what the actual star was, this plausible and exiting theory is well worth the listen.

Content Disclaimer: The Flaming Sword makes no blanket endorsement for every position or doctrine of the various resources we suggest or the guest we have on. We do stand behind our goal to teach "Christ Crucified," which from our perspective, means we will stand with others on the essentials and give grace and love on what we consider to be non essentials. We try to make sure our programming only consists of those who support the essential position of salvation through Christ alone. That being said, there may be other differences, such as in matters of Eschatology, or other positions generally along the lines of denominational stances, that we at The Flaming Sword may or may not particularly endorse.

We start with a little kingdom talk taking up with verse 13 from last time, then we discuss "that bloody religion" with verse 14, followed by the heart of the matter with verses 15-19 of Chap. 1. These passages are deep, exciting, rich with Christ, and even hard to contemplate as they picture Christ as co-equal with God the Father. We close out with verse 23, for another great Podcast with a lot of fun, but also a serious message. God-bless!

After a fun but haphazard start, we continue our study in Colossians re-reading Chap. 1 vrs-4-5, then getting down to business with verse. 6. We manage to get to verse 14 before closing, but cover faith + works, the simple gospel, kingdom now, and why chastisement is a key way to tell whether you are in the faith or not. Good times, but serious message, all in one Podcast. Enjoy!

Joel and Darin begin a series in Colossians and barely a few verses in, we run into the doctrine of election and the Trinity. Joel's joke pushes the limits, but hey, that's what we do. It was a blast to shoot; we love the Word of God and in our usual fast paced, but fun delivery, we get this series started off flying!

Joel and Darin are on their own this week, but wow, lots to discuss in the Christian Apologetics world and how they are sad and or worrisome, but maybe have a sweet silver lining-or maybe not. We start with science, then move to church affiliation, and finally biblical interpretive methods used by some Apologist, which to be honest, have us a bit worried. In our usual but fast paced format and of course with a touch of humor, we introduce these issues and give you some links below to further study and decide for yourself what you think.

Recurring guest Carmine Hetrick is back and wow, this one is interesting. After our usual intro and Joel's lame joke lol, we get right into our topic. We have to admit, we're kind of all over the place a bit, but the main thing we want everyone to see is something big happened in AD 70 and guess what? Jesus said it would happen...really, seriously, not joking! In our usual fast paced, but fun way, Carmine discusses with us this amazing prophecy!

James Wagley returns with a brief introduction to Church history, explaining to us what happened in 1054 AD, how the church operated to the best of its ability for hundreds of years before a lot of corruption came in, and what the Catholic church did to insight a much needed change. This Reformation led to the 5 SOLAS that James goes through briefly at the end, capping yet another exciting Podcast. We cover a lot in a short format, but we do so in our normal serious, but with a touch of humor way. Enjoy!

Darin and Joel welcome first time guest David Cooper (aka Bible Scribe) and we get right into our conversation as David has done a lot of work in this area. He sheds some excellent light and understanding on why we are to lean into the New Covenant through Christ and how we are not under the Old Covenant Law, but we are to seek to be Holy. Exciting Podcast with some humor (some unplanned like Joel disappearing for a while), but also a very serious and thought provoking lesson on this controversial topic.

Darin and Joel welcome Carmine Hetrick back to discuss fulfilled prophecies in Christ. This was a crazy episode, as we had some major technical difficulties, but in the final edit, it all worked out nicely. All of us struggled to say what we wanted at times, Darin calls Carmine out for his Elvis hair, and much more. Enjoy this humor filled, but great learning experience, as Carmine discusses 3 major prophecies concerning Christ, that were given hundreds of years prior to His advent.

Darin discusses Gary Habermas's (Christian scholar specializing in the resurrection of Jesus) 5000 page magnum opus, then Joel steals the only input Darin was going to add to the Podcast (not on purpose of course lol). We then get right into our discussion with James Wagley on the Deity of Christ, which ultimately answers our question of who Jesus not only claimed to be, but is. Again, a lot of fun packed into a short get to the point format, but with a great message of hope that Jesus is part of the triune God!
