[0:00:01] Aaron and Riley discuss the new live-action Little Mermaid remake starring Halle Bailey as Ariel.

[0:09:01] They talk about the new songs written for the film by Alan Menken, including Prince Eric's solo song "Wild Uncharted Waters" and King Triton's song "Impossible Child".

[0:14:11] They debate the merits of the new songs and whether they added anything meaningful to the story.

[0:18:32] They discuss the casting choices, with Riley liking Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula but Aaron feeling Javier Bardem as King Triton was a miss.

[0:22:56] They touch on the box office performance of the film and debate whether live-action remakes are suffering from oversaturation or if the pandemic has changed audience behavior.

[0:35:55] Overall, they agree the film had some creative high points but also some flaws, and Disney needs to find a balance between remakes and original stories going forward.

Details Announced for New Reservation System for Theme Park Visits to Walt Disney World Resort https://buff.ly/2VbmmBU

NEWS! Disney World’s Park Pass Reservation System Is Live! We Have All the Need-to-Know Details! https://buff.ly/2zWrToE

Though the system is LIVE, quite a few readers are still having a hard time accessing the new system. You will likely be greeted with a countdown Space Mountain loading screen (that will possibly never actually count down to zero!), so be prepared to potentially wait for a while.

Reservations are made for a specific date, time, and park. You are limited to one park reservation per day, so it seems that the Park hopper service will not be in use at this time. You can see on the availability calendar that it shows “All Parks Available,” “Some Parks Available,” or “No Parks Available” for each date.

Update on Seasonal Events at Walt Disney World Resort https://buff.ly/2VbNfpy

One staple of the fall season at the Walt Disney World Resort is the annual EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Today, we’re pleased to share that not only have we cooked up a creative, modified festival experience, it will also be our longest festival yet – giving you plenty of time to enjoy “A Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival!”

This new take on the foodie festival will debut July 15 and continue through the fall, offering over 20 signature global marketplaces like Hawaii, Hops & Barley, and Islands of the Caribbean, spaced out around the park. And, if you’ve ever imagined a world where the floral fun of Flower & Garden is sprinkled in with the global goodies of Food & Wine, here’s your chance – guests will be able to see our newest topiary, Remy, in the France pavilion and find Flower & Garden merchandise. For scavenger hunt fans, Remy’s Ratatouille Hide and Squeak scavenger hunt returns. And stay tuned as Food & Wine merchandise joins the fun later on after the festival begins.

We know the popular musical acts during the “Eat to the Beat Concert Series” often pack the house and, in an effort to accommodate proper physical distancing, we will not be able to host these concerts this year. There will be plenty of music to enjoy at America Gardens Theatre with local EPCOT entertainment such as Mariachi Cobre, the JAMMitors and more. These fan favorites will spread out their performances throughout the day, giving audiences more options to enjoy them.

While assessing another fall special event, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, we determined that many of its hallmarks – stage shows, parades and fireworks – are unable to take place in this new, unprecedented environment. With that in mind, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Additionally, Disney H2O Glow Nights, the nighttime special ticket event at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, will not take place for the remainder of 2020. Guests who have already bought tickets to these events will be assisted with refunds over the coming weeks.

Looking ahead to the holiday season, this may spark questions about Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, which includes the Candlelight Processional. We are monitoring our new environment closely, and will make a decision on these events as we continue to learn more from government and health officials. As always, our goal is to explore every option and look at ways in which we can still host events and festivals full of Disney magic, while still operating responsibly with the health and safety of our guests and cast members in mind.

Disney Takes a Pandemic Hit, and There’s Worse to Come https://buff.ly/2WBAYKX

“Our businesses have been hugely impacted,” the company’s C.E.O. said after quarterly profit dropped more than 90 percent. And that was for a period only partly upended by the coronavirus.

Disney did say that its newest theme park resort, Shanghai Disneyland, would reopen on May 11 with “controlled capacity,” temperature checks and everyone wearing masks. “Queues will be structured and ride vehicles will be loaded to promote social distancing,” Disney said. Mr. Chapek said that Shanghai Disneyland attracted roughly 80,000 people a day under normal conditions. For the moment, the Chinese government wants capacity capped at 24,000 a day.

“We’re actually going to open far below that,” Mr. Chapek said, “to get our training wheels on.”

Opens May 11

“Guests are required to purchase admission tickets valid on a selected date only and Annual Pass holders must make a reservation prior to arrival”

Will allow up 24k a day which is 30% of normal attendance

Other Parks

Phased reopening: We’re looking at all of our locations and how best to begin the reopening process, including a gradual reopening and/or partial reopening of certain locations. For example, the opening of retail and dining locations prior to the opening of our theme parks.

Physical distancing and capacity measures: As you can imagine, managing guest density in queues, restaurants, hotels, ride vehicles and other facilities throughout the park and across the resort is a major focus, as we implement physical distancing guidelines based on guidance from health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and appropriate government agencies. This will likely include implementation of guest capacity measures to comply with state and federal guidelines. We’re also exploring ways to use technology to aid us in these efforts, like with our Play Disney Parks App and through virtual queues at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Cleanliness and sanitization: We’re planning increased cleaning and disinfection, determining where that should take place (for example, in high-traffic areas), and the cleaning products and processes we’ll use.

Screening and prevention support: We’ll follow guidance from the government and the medical community regarding enhanced screening procedures and prevention measures, including those related to personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face coverings. Some measures, like adding hand sanitizers and hand washing stations across our resorts, have already been implemented.

Cast training: We’re further emphasizing our strong culture of health and safety amongst our cast members, and will continue to provide new training and reinforcement as we get closer to reopening.

Disney Springs

A phased reopening of Disney Springs will begin on May 20. Following the guidance of government and health officials, a limited number of shopping and dining experiences that are owned by third-party operating participants will begin to open during this initial phase. The rest of Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed, including theme parks and resort hotels.

As we continue to monitor conditions, and with the health of guests and Disney cast members at the forefront of our planning, we are making several operational changes. Disney Springs will begin to reopen in a way that incorporates enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, limited-contact guest services and additional safety training for cast members.

We will apply learnings and ideas from leaders in the health and travel industries, and we’re also talking to our unions as we prepare for some cast members to return to work.

During the initial opening phase, Disney Springs will have limitations on capacity, parking and operating hours. Given this unprecedented situation, we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate through this process as responsibly as we can. Additional protocols and procedures may be announced closer to the opening date. Please check DisneySprings.com as we get closer to May 20 for the most current information on operating hours, locations and safety procedures.

Aladdin Teaser and Poster

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g5knnlF7Zo

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/aladdin-will-smith-unveils-first-poster-1151335

“Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, the film is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.”

“Aladdin” stars Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie; Mena Massoud as the charming scoundrel Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine, the beautiful, self-determined princess; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, the powerful sorcerer; Navid Negahban as the Sultan concerned with his daughter’s future; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s free-spirited best friend and confidante; Billy Magnussen as the handsome and arrogant suitor Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and captain of the palace guards. The film is produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich with Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serving as executive producers. Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and two new songs written by Menken and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film, which was shot on practical stages in London and on location amidst the stunning desert vistas of Jordan, has a talented creative team helping to bring Agrabah to life, including: director of photography Alan Stewart, production designer Gemma Jackson and costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

Live Action Lilo & Stitch

https://insidethemagic.net/2018/10/lilo-stitch-live-action-remake-disney/

It is unclear whether the new project, which is intended to be a live-action/CG hybrid, is intended for theatrical release or for Disney's streaming service that is set to launch in 2019.

The studio has hired up-and-comer Mike Van Waes to pen the script for the remake, which will be produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, formerly known as Lin Pictures. The two are already known in the Disney halls as they are working on the high-profile live-action remake of Aladdin.
