Whatever your thoughts about God and church, you’re welcome here! We are passionate about God and our city which is why we meet all across Cape Town. We exist to spread the good news of Jesus wider into our city and deeper into our culture.
Big Idea: John concludes by clarifying that obedience is a response to God's grace, not a means to receive it. He reaffirms that Jesus was both fully human and divine, emphasising His baptism and death to counter false teachings. Believing in Jesus' nature is essential for eternal life. John urges believers to reject sin, support each other, and live in Christ's truth, assuring them they can confidently approach God through Jesus, trusting in His promises.

Big Idea: John explains that God's love, shown through Jesus, is sacrificial and proactive. God loved us because of our need, not our worthiness. By loving one another, we testify to the world. God's Spirit within us is a sign of His love, which drives out fear and frees us from punishment, as Jesus bore our sins. Recognising God's love enables us to love others selflessly, dispel fear, grow in our faith, and share the good news. Therefore, let us love one another.

Big Idea: John urges believers to follow Jesus' example of sacrificial love, contrasting it with Cain's selfish act of murder. Hatred aligns with Cain, while love aligns with Jesus and brings life. Loving others demonstrates faith, blesses recipients, and allows believers to experience God's presence. A practical way to show this love is by sharing material possessions. Ultimately, love leads to life, while hatred leads to death.

Big Idea: John emphasizes the imminent return of Christ and addresses the challenges of living in the final days. He warns about the Antichrist and urges believers not to be surprised by opposition. Instead, he encourages them to focus on their identity in Christ and the certainty of the Gospel, amidst the schemes of evil. John reaffirms the sufficiency of the Gospel for salvation, countering the teachings of those who spread doubt.

Big Idea: John writes a letter to a community of believers struggling with a crisis of confidence in their trust in Jesus. John encourages the believers to remain steadfast, to continue walking faithfully with God while living in love and fellowship with one another.

Big Idea: John emphasises the importance of knowing deeply the truth of God and His Gospel, rather than merely acquiring information. His primary goal for the community is that their joy be complete, rooted in faithful obedience and a saving relationship with God. Disobedience contradicts this joy and the light of God's grace. Loving one another is a crucial command that the community struggles with, as hatred has no place among believers.

Big Idea: In light of a group who have walked away from the community and are now propagating false teaching (especially about who Jesus is and the nature of sin), it’s likely that the believers who remain are facing a crisis of confidence. They, like us, need to continue walking faithfully in the light of God and community, not in the blindness of darkest evil.

Don speaks to us about creating and living out a vision for the people we are becoming.
It’s a brand new year and the good news is that God has big plans for each of us personally. God also has big plans for our church this year.
A few years ago God laid it on our hearts to ‘Fill the city with the message, life and fame of Jesus’.
Since then we’ve been passionately committed, more than ever, to serving our city in 5 ways over the ensuing 5 years.
But we can’t do this on our own, and so through this series we’ll be exploring how through the three key areas of Faith, Hope and Love, we are being filled by God, to overflow in these areas to fill the people and city around us.
We’d love for you to join us this January to find out how God is moving in our city, and how you could be a part of making this vision a reality as we are all Filled to Fill.
