Thinking deeply about finding your inner hidden talent (or as I like to call it, "Your Inner Curiosity").
We all intuitively know and feel that we have a gift inside ourselves or that we're gifted in some way or form.
That's why I was exploring this question on a Friday night alone with a chalkboard, and I reached an interesting conclusion, a conclusion that will make you see how you perceive talent, and even approach your own life.
I also explore the assumptions, takeaways, and many of the philosophical themes behind the idea.
๐จโ๐ซWhy a chalkboard?
All of these conversations with a chalkboard start with my intention of discovering something I didn't know existed or something I didn't know I knew. It's important that we think, and that we think deeply about the world and ourselves (They occur when I'm taking breaks from studying).
Then after I finish scribbling, and I say to myself, "Huh! This is interesting and could be useful. I'll make a video about it quickly."
There's a beauty in talking spontaneously from the heart with no scripts nor preparation but with the intent of creating a new intellectual space for the next generation of curiously optimistic and ambitious young people.
That's the goal.
In this video, I share the story of teaching myself calculus as well as some advice and tricks you can implement to start teaching yourself any topic.
Teaching yourself isn't easier but it can be more enjoyable.

Iโm always careful about what goes inside my brain. That includes books or any source of inputs because that changes how I think and influence how I see the world.
Then thereโs a deeper layer, doing the same things as everyone else. If you do, you end up thinking like everyone else. To me, thatโs scary because I want to have different ideas and unusual thoughts.
The way to do that is by ignoring what everyone suggests and asking yourself what you really want to learn about and what you really want to do.

Who? I identified with Eric Weinstein so much because of the shared struggles with the educational system.
Eric became a beacon of hope for me when he started sharing his story and lessons he learned throughout his impressive career as an academic, mathematician, physicist, economist, managing director of Thiel Capital, and podcaster.
Although heโs been told he is dyslexic, dysgraphic, color blind, ADD, and kinesthetic reinforcement deficits, he is proof of the educational system debacles. He says, โAll BS. I wasnโt meant for educators, as those are actually their issues with me (i.e. teaching disabilities).โ
Heโs an inspiration as Iโve faced similar obstacles especially with the focus of compliance in the educational system over creativity, curiosity, even intellect has hurt me in my educational career.

We are all the same and we think the same. We have become a world of uniform thinkers. This is dangerous.
We all think the same. We watch the same TV shows and movies; we read the same books; we listen to the same music, and we are one world. One world that is becoming identical everywhere.
The world has become one due to globalization and new technologies like the internet. As good as we all want to think globalization is good for the world. I have some doubts.

I was a person who was, in fact, never confident. I was like most people my age. The tension between life and institutions appear in periods of crisis in a society.
Then, two ways of thinking arise:
Conservatives forces, and Innovative forces.
Conservative forces consider the importance of the past to re-establish order.

The most important thing every human should understand is that people were very poor. Now, people are very rich.
This month has been a tough one for many of my peers, especially seniors. The moment we were all looking forward to, just vanished. Vanished is the right word because even if we get a graduation, it wonโt just be the same.
That sucks and isโฆ sad.
I made an Instagram Story to show my perspective, and I explained why Iโm not being as affected by the current situation happening in 2020. In the story, I describe that many of us are sad, depressed, anxious, and bored. I talked about what inspires me. I said that we are living in an era of infinite leverage and that a way to get a new perspective is to work on:
- Projects you care about
- Projects to help other people

This past week I was thankfully selected to attend Akimbo and Seth Godin's Emergent Leaders Program.
In this 5-day workshop for college students (oops I'm not college, I applied anyway) we work on projects every single day ranging from a TED Talk, writing a business plan, and even writing a children's book and audiobook.
Truly rewarding experience. Highly recommended.
What Dr. Cowen explains and suggests isn't anything new, but it's powerful. And it's important that we're reminded of this.
One of my classmates said, โI could see Juan David giving this speech at an Ivy League.โ
Maybe.
Last year, I took a speech class at school. One of the speeches I had to do was a valedictorian speech. I wasnโt even close to being a valedictorian.
If anything, I probably was closer to the lower-end.
Anyway, my classmates really liked the essay so I thought about making a video on YouTube.

In this episode, I talk about a PRINCIPLE to keep in mind when CREATING. Whether you create art, videos, writing, (you name it). You should always focus on the QUANTITY, not quality.
To illustrate this point, remember the story of two friends and the stuck car. When they were making the snowball was hard in the beginning. Over time, the snowball was bigger and better.

Being extremely successful is risky. To be the first, you sacrifice being the last one. To be the first, you sacrifice being ridiculed. To be the first, you risk losing everything.
Iโve noticed that the same traits that lead to success, also lead to failure. If you think exactly like Jeff Bezos and imitate his habits and routines, that does not mean you will become as successful as him or build the next Amazon.
We can take the most successful entrepreneurs of our time and study their habits and learn what they do to become what they are.
This is exactly the problem with successful people's studies. You only study the ones who became successful and you donโt take into account the ones who failed and had the same habits, routines, mindsets, etc.
This is known as survivorship bias.

Over the last few weeks, Iโve reaffirmed my position that a statistics class should be REQUIRED for every person before they are released into the open world of adulthood.
After seeing everything that has happened, it is dangerous to have a large number of people who don't know or understand statistics and the concept of probabilities. Many people are fooled by noise, lack a sense of judgment, and blindly believe what they see or what others say.
Statistics is KEY.
Why is it difficult for people to understand statistics and probabilities? Letโs try to understand why that happens.
