In today's episode, I chat with Juliet Goodwin, a nutritional therapist who brings a unique perspective to health and wellbeing, combining her background as an NHS nurse with her expertise in holistic nutrition and emotional healing techniques.

Juliet shares her inspiring journey of transitioning from nursing into nutritional therapy, all while juggling the demands of working and bringing up a young family. What sets Juliet apart is her 'whole person' approach to identifying the causes of illness and stress - describing herself as 'a health detective,' looking at aspects such as her clients' life timeline, the body's systems and the kinds of psychological elements that can impact wellbeing.

One of the fascinating aspects of Juliet's practice is her integration of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping into her offerings. She explains what it is, how it works, and why it's so effective as a means of de-stressing – and even how it helped her pass her driving test!

We explore the concept of 'midlife awakening'—a particularly relevant topic for women who have often spent years putting everyone else first by default. This was particularly interesting in the context of menopause and perimenopause, and how these transitions can be conveyed as wholly negative experiences; yet she presents them as powerful opportunities—a perspective that feels both refreshing and empowering.

So whether you're navigating midlife transitions, looking to take a more holistic approach to your health, or simply ready to make yourself more of a priority, Juliet's compassionate insights and practical wisdom offer a roadmap to reclaiming your identity and wellbeing.

In today's episode, I chat with the wonderful Feola McCandlish, who shares her inspiring journey as a Daisy First Aid franchisee. Feola opens up about her transition from a demanding career in graphic design and marketing to finding a business model that allowed her to balance work with family life.

In our conversation, Feola explains how she struggled to return to a traditional workplace after having her first child, feeling torn between her career and desire to be present for her children; an all too familiar dilemma for so many of us! After investigating various options, she discovered Daisy First Aid—a franchise teaching life-saving first aid skills to parents, schools, and businesses—which and this proved to be a perfect fit for her circumstances.

Perhaps what struck me most in our conversation, was Feola's profound personal transformation. She reveals how stepping far outside her comfort zone—particularly in overcoming her fear of public speaking—has built her confidence in ways she could never have imagined.

We also explore the benefits of the franchise model, and how it can provide autonomy of business ownership alongside the support of an established community, as well as the flexibility that allows being fully present as a mother.

So whether you're considering a career change, looking for flexible work options, or simply interested in the franchising model, Feola's journey story offers valuable insights about finding fulfilment through purposeful work that truly accommodates your personal priorities too. Enjoy the show!

In today's episode, I’m thrilled to present my conversation with psychotherapist, author and speaker Anna Mathur. I’ve had the pleasure to know Anna since I wrote a poem for her book The Uncomfortable Truth and she asked me to read it at her book signing event, so I’m overjoyed to welcome her to the podcast to discuss her journey, her learnings, and that wonderful book ‘The Uncomfortable Truth.’

Over the course of this episode, we cover everything from her uni days, to her journey into psychotherapy, her refreshingly fluid approach to career planning, as well as exploring how we can apply the notion that what really matters is living in alignment with the things that set our hearts on fire. I’m SO on board!

I was truly honoured that Anna reflected with incredible honesty about her experience of motherhood, and amongst other things, how making a difference to others became a source of positivity at a time when she was otherwise struggling, giving her a sense of identity and purpose that was all too elusive at the time.

In discussing ‘The Uncomfortable Truth,’ I particularly enjoy her take on failure, and the premise that it is so vital a process for all of us, making it so important that we learn to embrace it; we explore why failure feels so personal, and how much the fear of failure is actually about what other people think, yet we also discuss techniques and mindsets to help channel and overcome it.

If you’re looking for something to inspire you this week, I urge you to pop this episode on, and immersed yourself in Anna’s wisdom. You’ll be so greatful that you did!

Enjoy the show!

In today's episode, I chat with the inspirational Julie Smith, a highly sought-after executive coach, the founder of Talent Sprout, and author of the award-winning book "Coach Yourself Confident."

Julie shares her fascinating journey from a corporate career in HR, to becoming an expert in the field of self-confidence. She opens up about her own personal confidence journey with all of its ups and downs, as well as sharing that confidence isn't a constant state but rather contextual to specific situations - a realization that can help us all be kinder to ourselves.

We delve into Julie's powerful concept of a "self-doubt tax" - the hidden costs we pay when a lack of confidence leads to missed opportunities or exhaustion from overcompensating with impossibly high standards. She reveals how setting reasonable goals and expectations for ourselves can be transformative, and identifies the "confidence saboteurs" that can erode our self-belief when we least expect it.

I was particularly struck by Julie's approach to understanding our ‘inner critic’ as a sort of well-intentioned but overly cautious protection mechanism; She shares practical strategies, to help create distance between ourselves and those self-doubting thoughts.

So whether you're navigating a career transition, facing new challenges, or simply want to quiet that nagging voice of self-doubt, Julie's practical wisdom and compassionate approach provide a roadmap to authentic confidence that works in real-world situations.

In today's episode, I sit down with author Kathleen Whyman, who shares her inspiring journey from aspiring journalist to published novelist. Kathleen's story of persistence and self-belief is one that will resonate with anyone pursuing creative dreams alongside life's other demands.

We cover everything from how she started out, to how she writes, and manages to balance her career with the rest of life’s commitments. Kathleen opens up about writing her first book during pregnancy - a manuscript she initially felt wasn't good enough for publication but that taught her the invaluable lesson that she could indeed finish writing a book. She reveals the fascinating story behind her inspiration and the seven-year journey from enrolling on a writing course to finally seeing it in print.

What stands out in our conversation is Kathleen's unwavering determination. Despite setbacks, she maintained an absolute belief that her book deserved to be published, a mindset that ultimately led to her subsequent success, and multiple book releases

Parents will especially appreciate Kathleen's candid reflections on the balancing act of running a household while pursuing a career as a businesswoman and author - and the guilt that often accompanies these multiple roles. She shares her creative process, including how she crafts her books and revisits drafts to sharpen the humour, and I was touched to learn that one of my own podcast episodes helped inspire Kathleen to push beyond her comfort zone! We also discuss the power of networking, particularly how connecting with other women has opened doors and helped her reach her target audience.

So whether you're an aspiring creative, a parent juggling multiple responsibilities, or simply someone working toward a long-held dream, Kathleen's practical wisdom and honest reflections offer both inspiration and insight alike, alongside her constant trademark humour! Enjoy the show!

In today's episode, I chat with over-40s fitness guru Cara Metz, a truly remarkable woman who's transformed her life by understanding that real health goes far beyond physical movement.

Cara's journey is a powerful testament to the importance of mindset, self-compassion, and holistic wellness - and how sometimes, the most significant changes can start with just fifteen minutes a day.

We discuss her childhood as a high achieving dancer, and how her path wasn't a straightforward success story, as she candidly shares the challenges she faced. We reflect upon how she uncovered a profound truth, and how this moment of clarity sparked a transformative journey of understanding about nurturing your entire being - body, heart, and soul. It was to become a lifelong passion.

Now as an inspiring fitness and wellbeing instructor with an astounding following, Cara's philosophy is beautifully simple yet profound: we need to become the woman we were meant to be, not the woman that life's challenges have diminished. This mindset has allowed her to develop her powerful 15-minutes-a-day principle, which also forms the foundation of her book, "The Menopause Metabolism Fix".

So, whether you're struggling with health challenges, looking to reframe your approach to wellness, or simply need inspiration to make meaningful life changes, Cara's story offers a refreshing and empowering perspective.

Cara is going to be joining me live as guest speaker at my Epsom networking event on Wednesday 7th May – book your ticket today via the link below.

In today's episode, guest Tamsyn Jefferson, founder of Seed Accounting, shares her entrepreneurial journey and the valuable insights she's gained along the way. Tamsyn shares so much valuable and practical wisdom for small business owners, especially around financial management; she also explains why employing an accountant can be a game-changer for your business, and about her bold decision to hire staff earlier than planned—a move that proved to be the right call, despite initial hesitation.

We also delve into the personal challenges Tamsyn has overcome, as she openly discusses how she built her business whilst navigating the challenges of motherhood and going through a divorce, as well as how she balances her professional commitments with being present for her children.

In today's episode, I sit down with Hannah Isted, the amazing founder of HI Communications! Hannah is such an inspiration - she's built an incredible business that's absolutely powered by her infectious passion and energy, all while working around her health needs. Her story really shows how you can create success on your own terms and build something that fits YOUR life (not the other way around!).

We dive into plenty in this episode, from the benefits of starting a business when you're young, to how important it is to have people in your corner who get just as excited about your business wins as you do! Hannah opens up about how channelling all her enthusiasm into those early days helped her grow her client list like crazy, and how she deliberately crafted a business that works WITH her Crohn's disease, not against it.

She shares this fantastic concept she calls "big fish energy" (I love this!) and the magic that happens when you actually speak your dreams out loud. And for anyone feeling totally swamped by marketing (we've all been there!), Hannah's ten-minute marketing tips are absolute gold. She's all about "done is better than perfect" - such a refreshing approach! Plus, her strategies for recycling social media content will save you tons of time and stress. No more reinventing the wheel with every post!

Whether you're looking to infuse your business with your own unique spark, juggling health challenges while chasing your dreams, or just need some no-nonsense marketing advice that actually works in real life - this conversation with Hannah is packed with wisdom from someone who's walking the talk. In this solo episode, I challenge conventional wisdom about networking and business events with a simple message: sometimes, going alone is the best strategy for success!

Drawing from my own experiences, I explore why the comfort of bringing a friend to business events might actually be holding you back from meaningful connections and opportunities. While it may feel counter-intuitive, I make the case for stepping out of your comfort zone, and into the realm of solo networking.

Don’t worry, this isn't about abandoning friendships – far from it. Instead, it's about recognizing when our natural inclination to stick with familiar faces might be limiting our professional growth and networking potential. So I include some practical insights on how to approach solo networking with confidence, turning what might feel like a challenging situation into an opportunity for personal and professional development. Drawing from real life examples, I share how choosing to attend events alone has transformed my networking journey and even enabled some of the closest and most connected relationships I cherish to this day - relationships that almost certainly wouldn't have blossomed had I stayed in my comfort zone.

So whether you're a seasoned networker looking to enhance your approach or someone who finds business events intimidating, this episode offers a fresh perspective on how going it alone might be the key to unlocking your networking potential.

So get ready to challenge your assumptions and discover the hidden advantages of flying solo!

Today's episode dives deep into the power of self-compassion and redefining success, with Kim Stokes, owner and coach at Kindness For Success. With a varied and interesting background in corporate HR, Kim brings a unique perspective on navigating career transitions and personal growth, but crucially, with the focus upon self-kindness.

In this heartfelt conversation, we explore Kim's journey from corporate life through redundancy to launching her own business. She shares candidly about handling the emotional upheaval that comes with unexpected career changes, and how she transformed that challenge into an opportunity for reinvention.

One of the most powerful themes we explore is Kim's approach to success - it's not about "having it all," but rather defining what "your all" looks like. This perspective helps break free from the perfectionism trap that leaves so many feeling like they're falling short.

With remarkable openness, Kim shares her own experiences with anxiety and mental health, including her creative approach to managing her inner critic (whom she's named ‘Gertrude!’). Please note that this episode includes discussion of mental health and suicide awareness, including Kim's charitable work for the Mind charity.

So whether you're navigating a career transition, building a business, or simply seeking a more compassionate approach to success, Kim's insights and practical wisdom will inspire you to embrace kindness as your superpower. Enjoy the show!

And I’m delighted to welcome Nahid De Belgeonne, Somatic Movement Educator, breath and yoga teacher and author of ‘Soothe – the book your nervous system has been longing for’. Using movement to process and regulate emotions is something that Nahid has practised intuitively throughout her life, and now she specialises in teaching people with burnout, chronic anxiety and trauma issues.

Nahid has lived such a varied life and achieved so much working across some very different business sectors, but Nahid discovered that working hard comes with its own challenges as she found herself floundering on the edges of burnout.

We cover a lot during this discussion including work culture, the need for self-reflection, searching for ‘something else’ in midlife, the complexities and simplicities of the nervous system and how to bring about change.

So, let’s all just take a breath and prepare to get curious as we delve deeper into the body and mind…

Enjoy the show!

In this episode I welcome Louise Brooks back to the podcast… and what a joy it was too! I’d call this less of an interview and more of a conversation (a REALLY LOVELY ONE!) – a bit like one you’d have with one of your close friends, but the beauty of this one is that not only has Louise become a friend to me, but she is an exceptionally wise, inspiring and compassionate parenting coach as well. As you’ll hear, we both allowed ourselves to get really open and honest, and in doing so, we were able to unpick situations and challenges that we’ve individually faced. There are so many golden nuggets for you to take away including some around self-belief and confidence, parenting and being brave. I trust this episode is one that will offer you comfort, reassurance and permission to draw breath whilst recognising just how far you have come on your own journey.

Today I speak with Kate Eckman, a broadcast journalist, TV personality and author of The Full Spirit Workout: A Ten-Step System to Shed Your Self-Doubt, Strengthen Your Spiritual Core, and Create a Fun and Fulfilling Life.

Kate brings her expertise in communications, performance, and mindfulness to her practice as a success coach for business leaders and professional athletes. Passionate about mindfulness practices for both brain and body health, she is also a meditation teacher and course creator for the Insight Timer app.

It is important that I let you know that we speak about suicidal thoughts and indeed suicide of loved ones in this episode, and so if this is something you might find triggering, it might be best to skip this one.

In this conversation, we cover the importance of talking about our struggles, and Kate shares how she has been thankful for complete turmoil at times in her life, deeming it a gift and a treasure once out the other side. We of course talk about her book and she shares how once you get to a certain level of inner spirit fitness you will see the effects across your life … improved relationships, more creativity, higher level performance to name but a few!

For those who have never done a spiritual practice, Kate has a fabulous and achievable starting point for you, so tune in to find out. We cover so much in this deep and meaningful conversation and I know you will take so very much from it …

Today I speak with Ciara Attwell founder of My Fussy Eater & Pick Plates. As well as running two businesses, Ciara is a food writer, photographer and cookbook author too!

Through her own personal experience of fussy eating kids, Ciara gives practical advice on how to overcome picky eating at home and encourage a more varied and healthy diet.

Since launching her website in 2014, Ciara has gone on to help thousands of families with her quick and easy recipes and food ideas for children.

In 2018 Ciara launched her recipe App and also published two cookbooks, both of which have been bestsellers in their categories – her third cookbook hit the shelves at the beginning of 2023.

In 2020 Ciara launched Pick Plates, a children’s tableware brand designed to help picky eaters, children with autism or children with sensory food aversions to improve their eating and overall relationship with food.

In our conversation Ciara shares her journey from the very beginning which I always find so very fascinating! She offers an insight to so many of the wise moves she made along the way, where she learned her online business skills from and how she did it, whilst parenting a toddler and a new born. There are so many golden nuggets for you to feast on! Ciara’s business has continued to grow from strength to strength and there is no sign of this go-getter easing up as she continues to develop new ideas, business areas and her team as well. Enjoy this chance to get inside the head of a bold and fearless business owner who has so much to share! It was an honour to chat with Ciara and I know you’ll take so much from it too. Today’s conversation is with Caroline Stafford, founder & creator of The Kitsch Hen. The powerful mission of this beautiful business is to spread kindness and brighten people’s days with hand-stamped biscuits.

As with so many of the business owners I interview, Caroline didn’t ever ‘plan’ to launch a business in biscuits and it was nothing like her previous jobs, rather it evolved directly from her heart, when despite going through a horribly tough time in her own life, she thoughtfully crafted hand-stamped biscuits with messages of love, hope and encouragement for those she knew who were also facing struggles. Of course these biscuits were gratefully received and Caroline realised that if she loved sending them to friends and family in their moments of need, then she surely couldn’t be the only one. And so her business journey began. Caroline speaks with grace & vulnerability as she shares the tough times she faced during a 10 year long IVF journey; she shares how the business was one of the things that kept her afloat. The Kitsch Hen is something Caroline has nurtured and loved and it gives her true sense of purpose and meaning.

We talk around the ups and downs of running a business and how slowing down when you run a business is hard yet so important. We also touch on finding balance (and if it’s even possible!) as well as creating a life that feels good over looking good.

Listen on to hear more of Caroline’s story & wisdom and be sure to check out her website too!

Today’s conversation is with Sallie King, a former lawyer turned furniture designer who started her own furniture brand Urbansize in 2015. Having grown frustrated at the lack of petite furniture basics when she moved into her flat in Greenwich, Sallie decided to design her own instead, before making the bold move to build herself a new career entirely.

We talk about her sources of inspiration, her determination not to take ‘no’ for an answer, and some of the personal obstacles she has had to navigate throughout the process. Sallie shares so much authenticity and wisdom in such a relatable way, I just know you’ll find it as inspirational as I did!

Kendra’s business, barreALLEY, is a virtual fitness company offering new classes each week that are jam-packed with low-impact, dynamic movements of opposition paired with balance and cardio to promote proper body mechanics, endurance and posture. She shares how doing her own thing attracted the interest and intrigue of others which then lead to her friends asking her to teach them, and so a successful and extremely positive business was born.

We talk about how consistency is Kendra’s superpower, and about what happened when her passion-fuelled business ‘ran out of fuel’ and what she had to do for herself, her health and her three children too.

My conversation with Forest school trailblazer Florence Lacroix was a sheer delight, and I just love all she shares, from her raw honesty about the career she stepped away from to the many gems of wisdom that she offers.

She reveals how she left her teaching role to open a beautiful Forest School in Buckinghamshire called Tales and Trails, only to have the pandemic wreak havoc with her newly formed business. Undaunted, she started running ‘Mindfulness in Nature’ workshops, helping realise the magic that shines when like-minded women get together and allow themselves to be all that they are.

Her latest offering, titled ‘Your Path,’ goes further still, providing workshops, mindful walks and an online library of guided meditations to listen to on-the-go or at home; all with one purpose in mind, to allow every woman who crosses her path to discover their inner light and shine it on the world.

This episode is gentle, nurturing and I believe exactly what we need right now … enjoy the show.

Riyaza Rodriguez is the Founder and creative vision behind Rock Paper Roses, a female led family owned online jewellery store.

We cover so much in our conversation, including taking a career break after a health diagnosis, how Rock Paper Roses started small with just 4 products in the initial launch and Riyaza’s customer base starting from tapping into her local community of friends and family before taking off from there.

We talk about how simple styling with jewellery can really boost your confidence as well as transform your outfit, and the importance of finding boundaries with social media in our businesses – down to recognising if an account triggers us and how do deal with it as well as how to monitor and limit our overall phone use. So many ideas shared!

Riyaza has also made available a very kind offer of a discount code for ALL of my podcast listeners; simply head on over to https://rockpaperroses.com and enter the code Jo15 at the checkout in order to get 15% off your purchase.

Enjoy the show!!

My guest this week is the sassy and vivacious Susie Hasler, founder of Styled By Susie – a business (and movement!) helping women with their confidence by dressing for their body shape and colour.

Susie’s life purpose is to show every woman her true and full potential, and to look and feel good in her clothes without permission from anyone else. Though she’s a personal stylist, Susie says that style goes so much further beyond clothing alone.

We get personal in all senses of the word in our conversation; Susie shares wisdom, tips and reassurance as a personal stylist around finding style confidence and she talks with openness and authenticity about herself; not just running her business but in life as well.

I know you’re going to love this episode and all the takeaways it offers you, so thanks again for listening, and enjoy the show!

My guest this week is Izi Friend. Izi runs The Piltatiz Tribe – which offers online pilates at home or on the go. Izi created this flexible space to ease any aches and pains and help you achieve a supple body and adaptable mind.

As you listen to our conversation, you’ll hear that Izi indeed practices what she preaches and like so many of my guests, it was through her own health challenges that she came to find something that made an incredible difference to her life and so to then train and offer this gift to many others has been a beautiful and rewarding part of her journey.

Izi has been starting her day right for a few years now, and I don’t doubt that focussing on that helped her to make a big and brave move during the worldwide pandemic which we talk about.

In this heartfelt and vulnerable conversation, Izi shares so much and offers hints and tips for you all too.

Enjoy the show!

Today’s conversation is with the wonderful Helen Snape, a Healthy Relationships Coach who helps ‘good girls’ grow their guilt-free ‘No’ and find fulfilling relationships by building boundaries, confidence and effective communication skills. Helen has been coaching for over 10 years now and is qualified in mindfulness, body-oriented coaching and coaching with trauma as well as having a degree in psychology.

There were so many ways I could have taken our chat, but I chose the over-arching topic of people-pleasing for us to break down and share with you – I don’t doubt you’ll find it as fascinating as I did. As well as learning about the effects of and potential reasons behind people pleasing, I made sure to ask Helen for some easy tips for any of you who recognise this trait and might like to begin alleviating it from your lives, whether personal or professional – Helen’s tips will help all round!

In an era with so much external messaging cluttering our minds, Jo feels its important to get quiet, thoughtful and focussed on ourselves every now and then. In this episode Jo shares her belief in the power of stepping back, reflecting on what has been, and then using this opportunity to think clearly about how to move forward at the beginning of a new year. Doing so allows clarity of mind with which to identify a personal theme or focus with which to guide yourself through the year. Jo shows her ‘word of the year,’ and poses a series of questions to help you identify your own.

Suzy Reading is so many things, all wrapped up into one incredibly powerful whole; a mother of two, an author, a chartered psychologist, a yoga teacher, a leading practitioner and advocate of self care, and so much more. In this conversation, we explore how her passion for self care was sparked when her experience of motherhood collided with the terminal illness of her father, and how she has subsequently channelled that in order to help other people manage their stress, their emotions, and to re-charge their ‘energetic bank balance.’

In this wonderfully open and insightful conversation, we discuss topics such as;

  • How she accidently moved to the UK, when a two month holiday turned into a seven year stay!

  • Starting a personal training business whilst at University

  • When she moved back to Australia to start a family, she was faced with the terminal illness of her father, an especially tough chapter, though one that was to set her on the path back to her psychologist roots.

  • how even she remains susceptible to life’s stresses, despite all of her accumulated tools, experience and skills, because no one is immune from stress, overwhelm, burnout, anxiety, or grief.

  • How she embraced extending compassion towards herself

  • How the pandemic has encouraged people to talk more around self care.

  • That though grief is a universal experience, we still don’t talk about it enough. She goes on to share some wonderful insight as to how to try to support those who might be grieving.

  • We also talk healthy foundational habits, including sleep, rest, relaxation, breathing, food, hydration, and movement, and how these elements combine to make Suzy’s ‘scaffolding.’

You are going to get so much out of this, so I advise you to have a pen and paper to hand to make notes!

Catherine has a unique place in the story of the HDSDI podcast, but as well as revealing exactly what that was and how it came about, there is SO much more to her story that we explore in this episode. Marrying her prowess as an incredible musician with the power of manifestation, she reveals how she created her own business right from the very start of her career, and how she has expanded her services in order to fit her own lifestyle, and deliver a broad range of musical offerings to prospective clients.

Listen on to hear how Catherine:

  • Realised that her university degree wasn’t for her, and how she was brave enough to move courses.

  • Learned and applied the principles of manifestation in her early twenties

  • Devoured business principles and theories of positivity on her daily commute to University

  • Pivoted during lockdown in order to become less dependant upon live gigs, offering instead a musical branding service to a range of business clients

  • Places wellbeing and great energy at the centre of her approach

  • Uses principles around musical frequency and energy in order to create truly bespoke results for her customers

A mini-sode today made up of an open & transparent conversation between Jo and Pam Cottman.

This originally formed the beginning of tomorrow’s episode (which in itself is ‘different’ as Pam steps in as guest host, interviewing Jo! You’re going to LOVE it!), but Jo felt this short conversation required a platform of its own, as she believes many women are feeling stretched and tired right now, but might assume they’re the only one.

If that sounds like you, then listen on…

Together we’re stronger – reach out and connect with a business friend today – ask how they really are …

My guest this week is Roxy Holdstock, the dynamic and energised founder of Roxify, her business dedicated to decluttering and reorganisation. Roxy is a solution-based organiser who has a natural flair and passion for decluttering. She takes on board the emotional attachment to objects as well as the practical need for living space too, assisting clients to turn their place of focus into somewhere they love once more.

In this conversation, Roxy tells me how working for herself happened almost by accident following a very different job working for the Probation Service, and we cover so much more from that part of her story onwards. I love Roxy’s energy and hearing how she embraced her natural tendencies in creating her new business. We cover so much, including:

  • self-kindness and a huge change Roxy made following one of my networking events. Seriously, it is amazing and gave me all the tingles!

  • Talking permission and how we so often listen to others having ignored the signs within us beforehand.

  • Her passion comes from within – she loves to help people – that is the heart of it and the heart of Roxy!

  • Her work is so ‘person based’ and for most people it’s not just about the stuff, but the emotion surrounding it

  • The benefits of being part of a community both at my networking events and with fellow ‘de-clutterers’

  • The best thing about the business being the reward of helping people.

Well, this is different!

A shorter than planned episode because, well… take a listen and I’ll tell you why!

In this easy to digest solo-cast, I let you know how life has challenged me in the past few weeks, I share a hurdle I’ve worked hard to overcome recently thanks to the help and accountability of a beautifully kind and supportive business buddy, a poem I wrote the last time I took a holiday (which I hope will bring you a moment of stillness & joy) and some words of reassurance if you’ve contemplated networking but not quite taken the step yet.

Today’s guest is Jen Thomas. Jen is an intuitive coach and spiritual mentor helping business owners unlock their intuition and harness the power of their emotions to create super successful businesses.

With a 20 year corporate background, Jen knows what it is to exist in a fear-based energy and how disconnected and isolating that can feel. She also knows what a transformational journey it is to break free from the 'institution' and blaze your own trail, leading from the heart rather than financial gain. She has been on her own transformational journey from that place of fear to one of love where she can be her true and powerful self.

In this conversation, we touch upon…

  • Jen’s deep denial as she headed towards burnout.

  • How she needed to break free and immerse herself in something more fulfilling.

  • How her spiritual side began to develop, and became incorporated into her approach to business.

  • I ask Jen what she would recommend to someone who feels they might be heading towards burnout.

  • Jen shares her daily practices to ensure a happy & healthy life.

If you want to know how to make mindfulness work for you, then hit ‘play’ on this week’s podcast. Our guest is mindfulness practitioner Emma Martin, who relays the journey she embarked upon following her recovery from postnatal depression, before going on to train in mindfulness, counselling skills and mental health.

This truly authentic conversation touches upon topics around post-natal depression, how Emma came to be on her mindfulness journey and relays how we constantly need to work on developing our own minds.

Emma and I realised quite a while ago now that we share similarities in our outlook, vulnerability and most definitely in helping others too, and so our conversation was incredibly heartfelt and the energy was divine.

We touch upon…

  • How quickly mindfulness can take effect, and how simple exercises can make a difference.

  • Some fabulous insights into Emma’s world including incredibly accessible mindfulness ideas that you can put into practise right away.

  • Both the toughest and the best parts of Emma’s experience working for herself as she shares what she chose to let go of, in order to ensure a happy, healthy and liberated life.

  • Her new ‘Mindfulness in a Box’ offering, which brings the magic of self care and mindfulness to your doorstep!

Where are you at right now?

Many of us aren’t glowing with that ‘back to school’ feeling that has felt so familiar in the past. Have you hit the ground running or are you a little tired and ‘out of sorts’? Whichever way you answer this question, you’re not alone!

There is no right or wrong, and some of us (ummm, me) haven’t returned to social media yet after an extended break from it … but that’s ok.

So how are you? It’s ok if you’re feeling a little jaded – listen in to hear what Jo does (unapologetically) when she is in need of a recharge.

Enjoy this pick & mix collection of ideas & options that you can choose to implement, wherever you’re at in life and business right now – the key message across Jo’s suggestions is to embrace slow, and do what works for you.

This week’s guest is Alix Hubble, founder of ChickFit, a women’s health and fitness coaching business, where she works one to one, in groups and online with women at all ages and stages, from pregnancy right through to the menopause years.

Alix focuses upon giving a healthy and holistic approach to healing the body and regaining fitness, by combining exercise with soft tissue and massage therapy, nutrition, self-care and day to day strategies.

In this insightful conversation, we explore;

  • How she moved from a successful career in advertising in order to set up her own business as a personal trainer, and how that business has continued to evolve ever since

  • How even she doesn’t spring out of bed desperate to do a workout every day and it’s ok to have ups and downs

  • How we simply have to stop ignoring ourselves and rather to really look after ourselves as we get older

  • That we can fall into a vicious or virtuous cycle … this was such a lightbulb moment for me

  • The importance of starting small with looking after ourselves

  • Her wonderful recommendation of what to do if we literally only have two minutes to ourselves

As well as all of this and so much more, of course I ask Alix the toughest and best part of being a business owner as well as How DOES she do it?!

This week’s guest is Emily Watson, an honest & empowering fitness and wellbeing guru. Her business, Whoop Fitness & Wellbeing is an uplifting lifeline for so many who are lucky enough to have discovered her dance classes, both online and in person.

We cover so much in our conversation – with light-hearted chuckles along the way, before delving deeper into some incredibly vulnerable and important topics.

Emily shares so much;

  • From how she fell into psychology, and went onto complete a degree and masters, and even how she also fell in love with the idea of dance fitness whilst attending a class herself.

  • her vow to never allow things she’d experienced as a member of a gym class to happen at Whoop classes.

  • how she role-models a kind and friendly welcome to each and every customer who steps into her classes.

  • the pivot to online workouts during the pandemic that was enabled thanks to her fabulous husband, who actually went on to contract covid, ending up seriously ill in hospital.

We talk lack of boundaries, the struggle to switch off from business and have a refreshing chat around embracing our bodies, our mistakes and much more. You’re going to love this one!

In this episode I open up about my own personal journey through recognising my perfectionist ways, and the subsequent impact they’ve had on areas of my life such as decision making, mental health and business. I explore how acknowledging our own tendencies, being thankful for them, but then tweaking them with kindness leads to positive results and a happier life.

I have also selected a handful of tips to share which might support those of you with similar perfectionist tendencies, to harness your desire to set high personal standards, without allowing that to prevent you realising your ambitions.

I delve into:

  • Where it all began for me
  • How lockdown prompted me to observe my patterns
  • Real life examples of me overcoming the hold of perfectionism
  • Why I hope I don’t pass this trait onto my children
  • Confessing that I’m not ‘there’ yet!

As well as my own thoughts and learnings, I reference the wonderful Brené Brown, sharing a short passage from her incredible book ‘The Gifts of Imperfection’ which I strongly recommend you all go out and buy.

My guest this week is Rameeza Rayner who is an authentic and highly experienced cook, and a truly inspiring teacher. Her business ‘Rameeza’s Repertoire’ bloomed from her lifelong love of cooking. Specialising in teaching Indian and International cuisine, Rameeza runs cookery workshops empowering people to create the flavourful food they love!

In this conversation, Rameeza tells me how her life pivoted from a career in the city, before relocating to Paris, and starting on the path to creating her very own cookery business from scratch.

I adore Rameeza’s honesty, authenticity and story too. We cover so much, including:

  • How she overcame the fear of judgement by allowing her creativity to flow freely and not worry!

  • How being herself and doing what she feels is right for her has been a great way of moving forward.

  • How she felt a need for connection during the pandemic, leading to her running free online cookery workshops for families.

  • That the toughest thing about running her own business is the lack of accountability and how being on my Mastermind helped counter this.

  • That creative freedom and flexibility are two huge bonuses working for herself.

In this week’s episode I interview the wonderfully warm Phoebe Scaife, who is not only the founder of Ruby Moon VA, and therefore provider of support (with a smile!) to business owners, but also wife, mum of two, and so much more. We explore how she specifically sought to tailor her business to suit her own personality, working preferences and lifestyle; she’s an example to us all!

Phoebe relays her story, from how she overcame dyslexia to recognise, embrace and harness her strengths, through first attending networking before she even had her own business, to balancing work with the demands of motherhood. She provides insight as to how she intentionally designed a business model around her own lifestyle, as well as the sense of achievement she has experienced from running it successfully.

I’m delighted to provide this opportunity for Phoebe to share her capacity for calmness, clarity of thought and overall warmth of personality. There is much to enjoy and learn from here, I’m sure you’ll agree.

In this episode I explore how we can make the most exciting things happen by consciously stretching beyond the confines of our own personal comfort zones. It was Henry Ford who stated that ‘if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got,’ which seems to me to be both startingly simple, yet also wonderfully inspired. Drawing upon my own experiences in life and in business, I relay how I’ve had to first acknowledge my own personal fears, before embracing the challenge of the new, and the inevitable anxieties that I’ve encountered along the way, before experiencing the joy that results.

I have cherry picked a few of the best tips that I’ve acquired over the years, and in this episode I share them with you in order that you too can enjoy the many benefits that inevitably follow a conscious effort to embrace and push through your own fears.

I delve into:

  • Accepting that pushing through personal boundaries can often feel deeply uncomfortable
  • Applying these principles in both spontaneous and longer term situations
  • Understanding that there is no failure, only the opportunity for growth
  • That when embracing stepping out of our comfort zones often enough, we quickly begin to appreciate that anything really is possible!

In this week’s episode I interview the truly inspiring Louise Brooks, owner of Parenting Success (and hence provider of guidance, comfort and wisdom to many a parent), about her experiences both as an entrepreneur, and on her own personal journey as an individual.

If ever you feel the need to draw inspiration from someone who appears on the surface to have an innate sense of natural confidence, this interview is for you! Louise tells her story, from growing up in Denmark, relocating to the US, her fascination with the study of psychology, and how she subsequently applied that and her own life experiences into her own business providing support and advise for parents. In telling her story, she explains how ‘Louise questions’ helped define her career path, how she overcame being a ‘safety junkie’ and employed the value of her message as a means of overcoming her inner doubts.

Louise’s empathy and insight are a delight to share with you, and I’m confident you’ll take as much from listening to her wisdom, as I did myself.

We delve into:

  • How Louise overcomes challenges, pushes out of her comfort zone and always tries to follow her heart.
  • Listening to your inner child
  • That the process of embracing our fears has distinct phases, the last of which makes all of those before it more than worthwhile!
  • Inviting fear along for the journey, without letting it drive
  • Removing our own personal shield in order to encourage others to reciprocate and do the same
  • Being relatable, not perfect
  • How Louise achieves balance between running her business, with being a mum and wife
  • Realistic expectations for parents
  • Being fully present as a mum
  • The value of exercise as a non-negotiable
  • Lowering the bar to make space for life
