The Basic Bible Podcast seeks to take high-level theology and place it down on the bottom shelf for everyone to enjoy. That’s right – enjoy. Theology is not merely an academic pursuit but a passionate journey to learn more about our relationship with God. Each week we will discuss a different theological concept and unpack its meaning in a way that is both edifying and applicable.
We’ve made it episode 100!! To celebrate this milestone we have a super special guest, journalist and apologist Lee Strobel – yes, that Lee Strobel. Lee is the author of the Case for Christ and many other books. He was the subject of the major motion picture, the Case for Christ. In this special episode, we chat about one of his latest books, The Case for Miracles. What is a miracle? AIs there any proof of genuine miracles? Lee will answer these questions and more.
This week joining us on the podcast is author Jennifer Greenberg. Jennifer’s book, Not Forsaken, is her story of how her faith in Christ helped her become a survivor of terrible childhood abuse. She gives readers an inside look into the mind of an abuse victim and It is, by far, the most powerful book I’ve read all year. But, I warn you, it is a difficult read – yet an important one. If you have been the victim of abuse or if you wish to minister to those who have been, you need to read this book!
We have finally arrived at commandment number ten in our series on the Ten Commandments. Join us as Ray Jewell and I wrap things us with a discussion on coveting.
I’m not lying to you, we’ve reached the Ninth Commandment in our series on the Ten Commandments. Ray Jewell is back to talk about bearing false witness, and that’s the truth!
Continuing right along through the Ten Commandments, we come to commandment number 8 – do not steal. Like the rest of the commandments, this may seem like an easy one but as we’ll see, there’s more to it than we often are willing to recognize. This week we welcome back Caleb Powers from the Christian Artist podcast to join in the discussion.
I was saddened to hear of the death of apologist and theologian Norman Geisler. Though I would disagree with some of his material, he was a defender of the faith and greatly used of God. About ten years ago I had the chance to sit down with Dr. Geisler and recorded a very quick interview. So, in his honor, I thought I would air that interview this week.
And we’re back to the Ten Commandments! In this episode Pastor Michael Carl of the Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Wakefield, MA joins us to chat about adultery. Listen in as chat about the difficulty of marriage, how the words of Jesus shed light on this commandment and how we may find ourselves dangerously close to cheating on our spouse without necessarily knowing it.
From bakers in Colorado to to clerks in Kentucky to new legislation passed in Georgia and Alabama, everyone is talking about the issues of life, marriage, and religious liberty. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about the newly released book, Life, Marriage, and Religious Liberty: What Belongs to God, What Belongs to Caesar. Joining us is one of the contributors to that book, Bruce Ashford. Bruce is the Provost and Professor of Theology & Culture at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as a Fellow in Public Theology at the Kirby Laing Institute for Christian Ethics (Cambridge, UK), a Research Fellow at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, and a participant in the Dulles Colloquium of the Institute on Religion & Public Life.
Happy Father’s Day! In this special edition of the podcast, Sean Teis joins us to talk about his ministry to fatherless children and single moms. Sean travels across the country fulfilling James 1:17 by pointing people to Jesus through visiting the widow and the orphan. This is a great ministry that you need to know about. We also chat about the importance of fathers and encourage those Dads who may be a bit discouraged themselves today.
“Thou shalt not kill.” Seems pretty simple, right? Before you pass over this episode as something that doesn’t apply to you, think again. What did Jesus say about this topic? In this episode, fellow Christian School teacher, and former co-worker, Gary Zimmerman (Rockford Lutheran School) joins me to talk about the Sixth Commandment (though Gary believes it to be the fifth commandment).
This week we talking about honoring your father and mother. Is there a difference between honoring and obeying? What if your parents aren't very honorable people? How does this commandment apply to adults? These are the questions we ask Dr. Dan Burrell, the Executive Pastor at LIFE Fellowship Church in Cornelius, NC and the author behind the Whirrled Views blog.
