A weekly show for listeners to hear stories and conversations that allow us to explore subtle events and interesting social interactions too often ignored. These stories are meant to arouse the emotions of listeners towards self-improvement and consider how our behaviors impact others. There have been many moments in my life where I have wanted to share interesting stories that can be used by others to improve their own lives. With 22 years of educating youth and adults, I would like to share topics with you that will push against social norms and shift your mindset to consider alternative views. Sometimes, the best advice can be collected from the stories of others.
"Man can do what he wants but cannot want what he wants." So what does it mean to be authentically you? As we engage life, many of us believe that we make up our minds and choose unique paths. Yet, when we enter traffic on a Monday morning, intending to leave a little earlier, we find a million others who had the same idea and acted the same way. How original are we? How much influence do advertisements and social media have on our lives, and how much control do we have?
There is a difference in working from home versus work. The difference is absolute if you must work away from home soon. Let me share my experience and thoughts with you about the possibilities of this transition.
We are so busy working and overeating subliminal messages that we have not given ourselves enough time to withdraw from it all.
This book club was founded in 2021 with a group of men I am connected to throughout various journeys in my life. I felt a need to create an intellectual group with men of color to discuss authentic narratives that matter to us. We are growing and hope that other groups will sprout from our example.

Yves Duroseau, MD, MPH is the current Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital (LHH), NS/LIJ. As Chair, Dr. Duroseau provides overall leadership of the department, with responsibility for strategic planning, development, clinical services, quality, professional performance, and medical education. Dr. Duroseau is also the Co-Chair of the Performance Improvement Coordinating Group (PICG) for Lenox Hill Hospital. The PICG is responsible for overseeing all quality initiatives for the hospital.
Dr. Duroseau joins LHH from the Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY, where he was the Director of Service in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Prior to his post at Kings County Hospital Center, Dr. Duroseau served as the Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine and as an Attending Physician at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. He has also served as a per diem physician with North-Shore LIJ since 2011.
He has held several academic appointments. Most recently as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the State University of New York, and has held academic appointments with New York Medical College and New York University Medical Center. He is a Peer Reviewer for the Academic Emergency Medicine journal. He has published on his experience and successes with the use of Lean methodologies in transforming Kings County Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Dr. Duroseau’s commitment to service is demonstrated through his founding of the mentorship programs, Doctors as Mentors at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Bridging the Gap at New York University and New York University Medical School, both intended to support minority students interested in or pursuing careers in medicine. He has also served in numerous hospital and academic committee roles centered on quality, information technology, philanthropy, Lean management, hospital programming, and other initiatives.
Dr. Duroseau earned his medical degree and Master of Public Health degree as well as completed his residency in emergency medicine and internship in internal medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C. He has completed postdoctoral research in Medical Informatics at The National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Over the last 24 years, Lawrence Carthan and his wife Teresa Carthan proudly and effectively provided a vital community-based music education/mentoring program for youth throughout New York Cty. His mentoring program is designed to develop leadership skills while helping the adolescents to find a positive method of interacting with peers and solutions to peer pressure. His students have performed at churches, various civic events for celebrities like Chris Brown, 50 cents, Allen Houston, and LL Cool J.
Larry has won 2 Congressional Achievement Awards, a Proclamation from a Senator of Queens NY, a Citation from the City Council, State Senate, and State Legislature. Lastly, he has been featured on the Huffington Post and was selected as a Catalyst of New York City Media.

The Mentorship Specialist
From humble beginnings on the west side of Detroit to multiple degrees, Blanchard has adopted youth, led a math department to the top 5% in NYC, taught at prestigious colleges and was appointed to the city of Detroit’s Mayoral Cabinet as the Director of Youth Services. Throughout his tenure he raised over $7 Million to supply jobs to over 5600 youth, launching the “Grow Detroit’s Young Talent” youth employment initiative. He also served as the Detroit Mayor’s Office Liaison to President Barack Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” (MBK) initiative. Shawn also serves on a number of boards including the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings Little Caesars Arena Community Board.
Currently, Shawn is coined the Mentorship Specialist according to Forbes Magazine. He's married to making the lives of others better. He's the Founder of The University of Moguls, Co-Owner & Philanthropy Advisor for a custom suit company, “SnapSuits”, a Best-Selling and National Award Winning Author and renowned Speaker. In 2017 he completed a 42-stop national book tour with his best-selling book, “How ‘Bout That For a Crack Baby: Keys to Mentorship and Success,” providing multiple scholarships, dozens of custom suits, and hundreds of ties. Why can't I keep my money? Every time I turn around, money is being paid to someone or something. Why can't I just pay it off? It seems like I have to pay to play to have a quality standard of living.
