Once again, he paints vivid pictures of a part of Americana that isn't given the attention it deserves. This time, though, he has added depth to his story-songs for these are HIS roots as well. His family has been a part of Appalachia for generations and the personal emotions not only flavor the songs but empower them. Additionally, he makes you a part of it .... he takes you 'Down To Hatchabee Road' to his heartland and then down into the heart of the region ... into a coal mine, where he actually did the video for the first release from the album, 'The Coal Comes Up.' As Grant says, “It’s so powerful when you connect the music to real history." He's right. And it's even more powerful when it's your history.
