If you were to look back 10, 20, 30 years from now and write a story about your life, what would it look like? I'm sure it would be full of high highs, and low lows, happiness, tears, laughter...the list goes on. And I'm sure you would look back in fondness and not regret a thing because each part of that story made you exactly who you are. Now the question is, can you learn to embrace this journey as it's happening to you instead of once you've reached the destination?

In this episode, I get deep as we chat about learning to accept and embrace the highs and lows that come with working towards our goals and dreams. Being able to learn from the lows and celebrate the highs keeps us humble and grounded as we get to where we want to be.

Happy Winter Solstice Lovelies!

Like its summer counterpart, the solstice season is a time of great transition, reflection and manifestation.

With December in full swing, it can also be easy to feel overwhelmed or stressed with the busyness of the holiday season and forget to take care of what matters most – ourselves! Christmas parties at the office, holiday themed dinner parties, festive chocolates, cookies and sweets everywhere you turn, food court eats at the mall while you “shop till you drop”, a little extra rum in that nog, the Christmas dinner(s)… Yes, the potential of all of this squeezed into one month can be overwhelming for some but it does not have to be that way my friends.

In this episode, Fab discusses some of the key ways to stay grounded this holiday season and leverage times like the solstice to look inward, enjoy a little extra down time and really carve out some time to jot down those manifestations you have been putting off.

Organic. A word that has evolved so much over the past few decades.

A word that incites mixed emotions for many. A word that has had its fair share of greenwashing, as its popularity has increased over the past two decades.

  • What does organic mean?
  • What does it represent?
  • What does it mean to you?

In this episode, Fab dives into this topic which is near and dear to her and unpacks perception vs. reality regarding organic. She goes deeper and explores 'organic' wholistically from seed to harvest. She also explores why some may want to explore this way of life, what led her to an 'organic lifestyle' and why 'organic' labeled may not always be her go-to when at her local grocer.

This episode goes deep, so tune in, share, comment, and provide your insights on what has felt like a debate for years: Organic vs. non-organic.

In this episode, I welcome a long-time member of my wellness squad, Karen Kelln-Dwyer of Kolya Naturals/Optimum Health. We'll discuss why they are my absolute favourite Natural Skincare go-to in #YEG and beyond!

As someone who likes to live a holistic wellness-centered lifestyle, what I put on my body is just as important as what I put in it. Stumbling into the doors of Kolya 10 years ago changed so many things for me in ways I wasn't expecting. Karen and I discuss what sets them apart from other natural skincare providers, both storefront and online.

This will not be Karen's last visit to the podcast, as we are just scratching the surface with this episode. Let us know what questions you have about natural skincare products, and we will be sure to answer them in the next episode.

Have you ever looked outside at your garden and recognized its similarities with your life? Like, the way it ebbs and flows with the changing season, as your body ebbs and flows with its seasons of change. The way trees bloom abundantly each time you prune, the same way new opportunities seem to "find you" each time you remove or cut certain people, habits, or things out of your life?

In this episode, I explore this concept more and share some of the key things my backyard garden and nature continue to teach me about myself and each other. These lessons can serve as guiding principles for anyone looking for an abundance of "blooms" in their life, whether in business, personal, financial, and/or relationship goals.

Tune in and get ready to hear some fabulous lessons you can learn from the abundance of nature around us.

On this episode we welcome back Acupuncturist Nicole Broadhurst and we get into the nitty gritty about Women's Health and Acupuncture. As a Traditional Chinese Medicine modality, this was first introduced to me in 2005 as a treatment for the debilitating migraines I was experiencing. As someone who is very afraid of needles of any kind, it took me another 10 years before I would attempt to try acupuncture and while I definitely had my reservations, this is something I now include as part of my regular wellness practice. From migraines to periods, this medicine has helped in many areas of my life.

I invited Nicole on the show to help us all better understand this modality and its effectiveness for women's health. Some of the key points we cover include:

  • What is the medicine of acupuncture anyways?
  • What are the similarities between acupuncture and women health overall?
  • Does acupuncture always have to include needles (for those who are terrified of needles like me)?
  • Why is acupuncture so effective at treating women's health concerns?

We will be welcoming Nicole back on future episode, so tell us - what other questions do you have about acupuncture and/or Traditional Chines Medicine? Send me your questions via the questions section (Spotify listeners only) or DM me on Instagram at @thefabcollective.

Be sure to also give Nicole a follow on instagram at @drnicolebroadhurst and Tik Tok @nic.broad.

Disclaimer: this show is for informational purposes only and not intended to replace the advice of your own medical and/or holistic professionals and practitioners

On this episode, we welcome one of my favourite people - my naturopath Dr. Christina Bjorndal, ND or Dr, Chris as I call her.

Dr. Chris and I discuss why it is important for us all to discuss and understand Women's Health, in a world that is very much centered on men's health, physiology and biology. We discuss common misconceptions and myths around women's health and she shines some light on the realities of what we may or may not be experiencing in our bodies.

We also discuss many of the misconceptions around naturopathic medicine and the benefits of having a naturopath as part of your wellness practitioner team.

We will definitely have Dr. Chris back on the show, so feel free to submit any questions you want her to answer via voice notes (Spotify listeners only) or direct message on @thefabcollective on Instagram. You can also follow Dr. Chris on instagram at @drchrisbjorndal or find her on her private clinic website https://naturalterrain.com/meet-dr-about/. She has also written three books that you can find here.

If you are looking for a naturopath and currently reside in Canada, you can search ones in your area via the directory on the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors here.

We all have heard the decision and we all felt it in different ways.

On this episode of The Fab Collective podcast we have the pleasure of welcoming a dear friend and long time holistic practitioner for Fab, Kamila, where we dive into the topic of Breast Massage. Kamila is a holistic aesthetician and body worker based out of Edmonton. Her professional training includes Dr. Hauschka esthetician which is a skincare line tightly woven around Rudolf Steiners natural integrative work in anthroposophy. With wellness being a big part of Fab’s life, she wants to continue to share more about her person wellness journey, the key people in her “wellness squad” and talk to experts in this field and today’s episode does exactly that. Fab and Kamila discuss in detail the principles of breast health and massage including:

  • What exactly is breast massage?
  • Why is breast massage an important part of our overall health?

On this episode I am happy to welcome Psychotherapist Roxy Francis and we will be speaking about Mental Health, specifically Black Mental Health and why it’s so important to address it. With the unfortunate and continued murders of unarmed, innocent Black Folks, like this week’s senseless killing of Duante Wright, the mental wellbeing of Black Folks is something we should collectively be paying much more attention to and providing support for.

In this first of many episodes with Roxy, we discuss:

  • Who Roxy is and why she pursued this career path
  • Roxy explains the difference between psychotherapist and psychologist.
  • Black mental health with non-black therapist
  • We discuss if there is adequate Mental Health support for Black Communities?
  • Some common themes when it comes to Black mental ill health?
  • I ask her if she thinks society failed us Black Folks when it comes to our mental wellbeing?

For my fellow Black Folks, this episode starts to explore the things we can do to protect our peace and and start to renew what trauma has and continues to rob of us of. For non-Black folks who have committed to keep on doing the work, who want to be allies to the Black community and/or want to gain more understanding, this episode is also for you.

As mentioned, Roxy will be back on the show so if you have any questions for future episodes, please submit them via the Voice Messages section in the show notes or via DM on @thefabcollective on Instagram. In this continuation from previous episodes, November 17th: part 1 and 2 (Episodes #2 and #3), this episode titled, After the Storm: Healing, Learning & Growing , talks about my healing journey after experiencing an extremely challenging season in my life. It was a season of pain, worry, heartbreak, crippling anxiety and depression, and everything in between. A season where unresolved trauma came to a tipping point in my life and mental ill health crept in. A season where I felt like my own body was turning against me. A season that I was not confident I would survive.

I discuss more on how I began to embrace healing, which came with lots of learning and growing. I highlight 7 key actions and/or decisions I made mitigate through this storm in my life and continue to practice daily. I am by no way a medical professional or holistic practitioner, rather, I created this episode to share my personal experience as many did with me, with the hopes that others can know that they are not alone and healing is possible.

If you have any questions for future episodes on mental health, please submit them via the Voice Messages section in the show notes, as we will continue to explore mental health and mental ill health in future episodes.

In the final episode of our Series, (UN)Learn to Learn, Subria Lapps joins us on the show. Subria Lapps is a vocal artist, an education consultant and her work centers on racial equity. Subria lives by the philosophy that the “revolution is right here,” and that our biggest opportunity to effect change around anti-black racism and other forms of oppression happens in our homes and within our personal relationships. Subria is working on completing her first EP and in her spare time you can find her listening to Soca music or reading black feminist literature.

This series was created in May of 2020 after the horrific acts of violence and injustice against George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Christian Cooper etc., unfolded right before our eyes on mainstream media and social channels. These events, that unfortunately represent the experiences of countless others in America and this world, moved me to share even more on this platform and to speak to my Black friends, family and community members, so they too can share their stories and educate on The Black Experience. Today we continue to share the realities of Black People Living in our society plagued with white supremacy and systems that keep that in place. I am holding space for us to have open and honest dialogue, that will hopefully inspire people to think differently and be part of the unlearning, relearning and change towards actually equality.

In this episode with Subria, we continue the discussion on race relations and solidarity, specifically how solidarity with Black Women can be created in the workplace and other private and public places.

If you want to connect with Subria or have any questions, you can do so by submitting them via the Voice Messages below OR you can also find Subria on her social media @subriamusic on Instagram.

It’s how we all got here, we see it’s used to sell just about everything in the media and a good amount of us enjoy it but yet, it’s still such a “taboo” topic for many. Why is that?

In this episode, I welcome back Nicole Broadhurst to begin the discussions on sex, sensuality, sexuality and intimacy, and the disconnects we see in our society around these. Nicole is a Registered Acupuncturist and TCMD who graduated from the Doctor of Chinese Medicine program at ACATCM in Calgary, AB. She specializes in Fertility – both natural conception and assisted reproductive treatments (IVF/IUI), Sexual Health and Psychological Disorders. She enjoys working with individuals and couples wanting to grow their family, restore their sexual vitality and achieve a balanced mental state.

If you have any questions for future episodes on sex, please submit them via the Voice Messages section in the show notes, as Nicole will be joining us again for continued discussions on sexuality. "The most disrespected person in America is the Black Woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black Woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black Woman." -Malcolm X, 1962”

Our discussion is unfiltered, vulnerable and deeply personal as we share our own personal experiences in relation to this quote, and how we, as Black Women, have been/are treated and viewed in this society.
