Welcome to Episode 37 of the Redlands Coast Business Show, where once again I speak with another amazing Redlands Coast Business. Today I have the pleasure of sharing the story of Megan Neri and Golden Child Beauty. Her story starts
Back in 2010, Golden Child’s founder, Megan, started spray tanning her friends in the bathroom of her tiny apartment.
Word spread, the treatment menu grew, Megan took on staff, launched a beauty academy, AND opened two busy salons in Mt Cotton and Birkdale.
The story is punctuated of course by the constant challenge of juggling the demands of being a young mother, the impact of COVID and in Megan's case, she had just opened her Birkdale location when the world was forced into a STOP. Her determination to create a business strong enough to thrive, and be flexible to embrace family life, has been a major driver of her business success. A well-deserved winner at the 2021 Redlands Business Excellence, she is a great example of how creating a vision, and driving a plan but me honest enough to adjust as needed creates a focus for business growth.

We had great feedback from our episode last week with Josh Kuskopf, the young video maker in the Redlands, with his energy and quest to build a successful business. In this episode, we move into the world of professional services, and the growing sector of life coaching. Coaching is a growing industry and the 2020 International Coaching Federation tells us that coaching practitioners have increased by 33% worldwide and the size of the industry in terms of revenue has grown 21%. In 2019, coaching globally was estimated to be a USD 2.849 billion dollar industry.
It is an industry where you need to clearly differentiate yourself and define your niche and your customer. What we know, is that not everyone can be a tony Robbins, NOR does every client want a Tony Robbins. While the revenue is growing quickly, the growth of people calling themselves coaches is growing faster. Out of a recent Better Business Workshop on the Sunshine Coast, out of 11 participants, 5 were building a coaching practice. In every market you have to be clear on who you serve, coaching even more so

These lockdowns have become increasingly crushing for businesses everywhere, the stories I have heard from clients, including stand-downs and financial losses continue unabated and the need for support and community champions are much needed in these times of stress.

The Redland City Council deserve kudos for providing grants to the local business community. There is a $1000 grant for professional services to help with the impact from the Corona Virus Crisis. $5000 has also been made available for businesses as an innovation grant to assist businesses with restructure or re engineer their business model. Both grants close June 15.
