The Storm Report Podcast is an extension of The Storm Report Radio Network. This podcast will feature interviews with meteorologists about timely weather information, including severe weather outbreaks, historical weather facts and weather FAQ's. You can hear The Storm Report team giving weather updates on radio stations around the country and now you can hear The Storm Report Podcast anywhere!
Tornadoes, VERY large hail and strong wind gusts swept across the southern U.S. on Wednesday. It appears the severe weather pattern will persist with a new area of the country affected Thursday!
The Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma have been extremely active this year for severe weather. Much of that has been due to a trough of low pressure lingering in the western US resulting in one system after another producing big storms. The last two days have brought very large hail to the area.

A deadly tornado hit the Birmingham suburbs of Fultondale and Center Point around 10:40 pm CST, January 25, 2021. Tragically, a fourteen-year-old Fultondale High School student was killed. At least 30 other people were injured. The tornado had a path length of 9.5 miles and a maximum path width of 500-yards. More details on this event in this podcast.

On December 5, 1953, the city of Vicksburg, MS was visited by a devastating tornado. The tornado was rated F5 on the Fujita Scale. Tragically 38 people were killed and 270 others were injured. We are back with a brand new episode, of our roundtable discussion program about weather and lifestyle. President of The Storm Report Radio Network, Meteorologist Dan Holiday is your host and he's joined by Tommy Castor this week along with very special guest, Meteorologist Rodney Price.
Rodney is a life-long Kansan, growing up outside of Topeka in the small town of Harveyville. From an early age, severe weather has intrigued Rodney. He wrote his first report on tornadoes in 5th grade but recalls collecting maps prior to that time. Rodney is a proud graduate of the University of Kansas and spent 22 years in television on KTKA in Topeka, along with KSNW and most recently KWCH in Wichita. He was the station’s Storm Coordinator, directing their storm chasers around the state. Rodney was part of the team that won the Kansas Association of Broadcasters’ First place award in 2015 for Best Weathercast for coverage of the May 9th tornadoes in western Kansas. Rodney holds the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation and the National Weather Association’s TV Seal of Approval. Rodney is happily married with two children and two dogs. He is a huge Jayhawks, Royals and NASCAR fan. In his spare time, you can find him on a different part of the radio spectrum as an amateur radio operator.

There is also an enhanced and slight risk area that surrounds the moderate risk in parts of the Ohio Valley and Midwest.
From the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, there is a moderate risk of severe weather for parts of Michigan and Ohio. At the time of this recording (11 am central on 6/10), there is already a severe thunderstorm watch in place. Although today does not look to be a major tornado outbreak, conditions do look to be favorable for development of widespread damaging winds. Major cities under the moderate risk today include Detroit, Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, Warren, Michigan, Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Lansing, Michigan. Other cities under the gun are Columbus, Cleveland, Akron and Cincinnati, Ohio, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, New York and Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky.
Tommy and Dan also discuss the high wind event across the central plains on Tuesday, plus the remnants of Tropical Storm Cristobal.

Conditions do look to be favorable for development of tornadoes later in the day, as well as damaging winds and large hail. Cities under the gun today include Aurora, Rockford, Joliet, Naperville and Peoria, Illinois. A slight risk of severe weather surrounds the enhanced risk area and includes Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin.
There is also a slight risk of severe weather across the northern Plains, affecting parts of North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, plus parts of the southern Plains, including western Oklahoma and west central Texas for later today. In these areas, wind and hail will be the major threat.
Especially as we are in the holiday weekend with many outdoor activities happening, if you live in these affected areas, please keep your eyes to the skies. Have a way to gather information as the weather changes and have your severe weather preparedness plan ready to go.

From the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, there is a slight risk for severe weather in western and southwestern Kansas. There is the chance for tornadoes, especially early on in the event (mid to late afternoon) if discrete storms can form. There is also a large and damaging hail threat. As the storms become more linear and widespread in nature, it turns into more of a damaging wind threat for Kansas later in the evening. There is also a slight risk of severe weather today for west central Texas that have already seen a lot of severe weather in recent weeks. This looks to be a wind and hail threat for Texas today.
Cities in the severe threat area include Garden City, Dodge City and Liberal, Kansas, plus Abilene and San Angelo, Texas.

Both locations under that enhanced risk look to have these storms fire up later in the afternoon of Friday, May 15th.
Some major cities under the gun today include Syracuse, NY, Springfield, MA, Austin, TX, and San Antonio, TX. There is also a slight risk for Boston, MA, Dallas, TX and Oklahoma City, OK for these storms as the day goes on.*
