Coming off the big Trout Spey Rendezvous, there are some things I wanted to share for DIY anglers and why Trout Spey fishing, or at least swinging flies, is an important tool to have. It's DIY wade fishing based. That's why. You don't need a Clackacraft and a guide to swing flies. It's a simple technique, very straightforward. On this podcast I'll share things I learned from some of the masters.
Fielded some good questions from Instagram, all on trout fishing. Good stuff. We followed up the Podcast by talking about sink tip and full sink lines and why you might need one of these. Here are some show links, I'm sure I'm forgetting some but here ya go.

On this episode, Bob Miller and I sit down and chat about our upcoming trip to Christmas Island.
Along with some general banter Joe rotter chats tips for catchin' some trout during the cold months.
One of the keys to being successful in the fall is understanding "light line" nymphing. The water is usually low, clear, and the turbidity of spring doesn't allow for the big heavy setups and spontaneous strikes from trout. Slow things down and lighten up in the fall. Its a delicate game and this podcast is dedicated to helping you get set up right and understand how to put more trout on the line.
It seems as though dry fly fishing is becoming a lost art. No longer do anglers spend days, weeks, or even years mastering the art of a stealthy presentation with a dry fly. Nowadays we just club 'em with a big strike indicator and a couple of nymphs. Dry fly fishing however is the heart and soul of the sport!
Best. Fishing. Ever. This trip is really spectacular. We'll be personally hosting these each summer, so if you have EVER thought about doing this trip please click the link and get more images and information.

At a the hotel bar in Mexico we chat about the happenings of the week. Excuse my language, I was excited and a had a couple of drinks. Our crew had a killer trip to fish the Sea of Cortez this past week. My best pal Connor and I debrief over a few drinks and discuss the trip. It was really fun and we had a good time chatting about all the action from the week.

Let's make this simple. Euro Style Nymphing (dead drifting nymphs without a float/indicator) is damn effective. So much so every competitive fisherman does it! The problem is getting started can be daunting. There is simply too much info out there. Hopefully this Podcast will help you make sense of some of this.
Rods Mentioned:
ECHO Shadow II Czech Nymphing Rod
Redington Hydrogen Rod (11' 3 Weight)
On this episode we review a few things from the weekend's Trout Spey clinics and the fishing from the week, along with a preview of the Red's Rendezvous IX coming up on April 20th - 22nd, 2018. We'll follow up with a summary of a Wisdom of the Guides chapter featuring Craig Mathews.
This is a great book! I just love the quotes and the amazing knowledge of these ol' fellas in this book. I'll be doing about one of these a week and I hope you enjoy listening to me quoting these interviews.
You can purchase this book online, we don't currently sell it at Red's.
Today I share a local fishing report and answer lots of questions including some good ones about spring bass fishing.
There are many misconceptions about "spey vs. switch rods". What's the difference? In this Podcast I'll disect the difference between the two and try to help listeners make some strategic decisions on what they should be casting.

Here I am. Q and A for the listeners and I attempted to answer everyone's questions. I'll be making another post next week and we'll get a few more questions answered and "Mend" your fishing haha. You see what I did there. Tight Lines and enjoy the Podcast.
Today I sit riverside with Steve Joyce, one of the owners and founders of Red's, and we recap the "Red's Guide Shootout" or something like that. Not sure exactly what we were doing yesterday but our staff competed in 2 person teams in Sporting Clays, 1 Hour Competitive Fishing, Casting Competition, and a Top Chef Contest! In addition we'll give lots of tips for fringe season fishing. It was a ton of fun and great learning experience for all of us to be together talking shooting, casting, fishing, and shore lunch prep.
We chat trout spey gear, strategy, lifestyle, and the new Loomis IMX PRO short spey rods with Tom Larimer and Jacob Zirkle from G Loomis. Trout spey is an awesome way to fish, but also hone your two-handed casting skills.
Fly fishing and hunting are very similar sports. One compliments the other and both allow the participant to insert themselves into the cycle of life.
We fished 3 amazing destinations yesterday all in one day. It was a great trip fishing for big Rainbows at Rocky Ford, Largemouth Bass, and a local creek with our sons.
Fly fishing on the Sea of Cortez is big fun, especially when you go with bunch of fun couples. We fish for Dorado, Roosterfish, Yellowtail, Sea Bass, and a bunch of other species. We also talk about rods, fighting fish, casting, and presentation for Dorado.
Proper layering and attire is so critical in your success as an angler. Get outfitted right and you'll have more fun on the water, fish longer, and catch more fish.
Today I get together at the Back Edddy Bar, which is inside Red's Fly Shop, and chat with my good friends Shan, James, and Craig about our fly fishing trips to Ascension Bay Mexico this last season. We share ideas, strategies, and experiences that hopefull you can learn from.
Spring Runoff. Yuck. Its all part of the fly fishing life and today we'll interview Steve Joyce, founder and managing owner at Red's Fly Shop on HOW to deal with muddy water. We'll talk about the benefits of high runoff and how to alter your strategy.
Today we interview one of our long time guides and friends, Shan Sedgwick and talk about how to plan a grea trip. We swap some old stories and do a lot of joking around about days of old and reflect on some great trips... and a few bad ones.
Day 4 summarizes lots of action for the "Bonefish Virgin" on his first trip to the flats of Ascension Bay. At this point we had encountered Permit, Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda, and Jacks! Lots of variety on these flats. I love James' perspective on working with the guides and tips for new anglers on how to have a successful trip.
On this episode we chat with James St. Claire after Day 1 fishing in Ascension Bay. It was his first trip, making him a "Bonefish Virgin". He seals the deal on multiple Bonefish and shares advice from a first time flats angler.
