Amelia Island Microgreens was selected as one of 30 entrepreneurs to receive a $10,000 grant through the 2022 FedEx® Entrepreneur Fund, presented by FedEx and HelloAlice.com in collaboration with GenHQ.
The program provides grants to small businesses owned by military-connected entrepreneurs or small business owners with disabilities.
“Covid made 2020 a challenging year, changing how we look at many things, said Christine Heibel, Conner Heibal’s business partner, and mother.
“For many of us, food security became an issue,” said Christina Hiebel. “To meet this and his own personal health challenges, Connor started Amelia Island Microgreens and developed a selection of ‘Ready, Set, Grow!’ kits for people to grow microgreens for themselves and their pets.”
Amelia Island Microgreens is a mother/son-owned business born out of necessity to address Connor’s complex health challenges.
“Connor was born as a ‘failure to thrive child, yet has created a thriving life (although challenging) through good nutritional and mental practices,” explained Christine.
Due to his health, Connor has not been able to attend public school for more than 50% of his school years. He has fluctuated between being medical homebound and homeschooled to fulfill his educational requirements.
“Growing a business has been an amazing educational experience with real-world lessons,” he said.
Having grown microgreens for more than a decade, Connor considers microgreens part of his medicine.
“Microgreens are the most nutritious stage in the life-cycle of a plant, delivering up to 40% more nutritional density than the mature plant,” said Connor.
“Microgreens are eaten live, not weeks or months after they have been harvested, providing enzymes not present in ‘dead’ food.”
Connor has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. At age four he sold a rock to a man (with lessons of supply and demand from his embarrassed mother). He purchased his first lizard at age 6 with money he made from making and selling soy candles.
At the peak of Covid, people around the world all experienced ‘less than desirable’ produce. To help people gain food security, Connor decided to take action to educate and empower people to grow nutrient-rich microgreens. In less than two years, Amelia Island Microgreens has a distribution of more than 4,000 ‘Ready, Set, Grow!’ trays in circulation.
The FedEx Fund will help Amelia Island Microgreens remove single-use plastic from their kits, aligning with their mission to empower people to achieve a healthier lifestyle. The Fund had more than 12,500 applicants. Amelia Island Microgreens was one of 30 applicants chosen.
“We believe every person deserves the opportunity to grow their own food, no matter their physical capabilities, age, or economical situation,” said Connor.
“We believe every family deserves food they can trust. We believe every child deserves to have the confidence to grow their own food and understand food does not come from a store.”

Aileen C. Lee developed a distinct fascination and keen interest in spirituality in the 1990s while she was attending various spiritual group meetings, courses and traveling to John of God in Brazil to witness his healing miracles. Taking a step further, she augmented those abilities by studying the healing modality Reiki to earn her first and second-degree levels. But it was only three years later, in 2011, when she met Guruji Mahendra Trivedi that she finally discovered her own natural healing abilities and began to raise her consciousness.
In 2015, Guruji welcomed the members in the Healing Master’s Program to test their healing abilities under scientific laboratory conditions. Aileen was invited to join 18 other participants to bless magnesium, zinc, selenium and ashwaganda samples, post which their abilities were tested on male Sprague Dawley mice in controlled and treated groups. These laboratory results showed a 124.7% increase in primary antibodies of the animals treated by the Healing Masters as compared to the antibodies in the control group.

Dr. KEESHA EWERS started out in medicine as a registered nurse in 1985. "I loved my fast-paced life in the critical care world, working with patients in the intensive care unit and really connecting with them and their families. I found I was good at helping those who were in crisis. However, I also found that people were slipping through the cracks with all of the various medical "specialties" and "specialists."
During this time, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), an “incurable autoimmune disease.” I felt trapped and betrayed by my own body. I then felt trapped by my medical system when I was presented with the standard immune-modulating and anti-inflammatory drugs as my only options. I was told that diet and stress levels had nothing to do with my disease.
I examined my body, mind, heart, and spirit for clues to my disease. In the process of my research and inquiry into the “WHY” of my disease, I discovered Ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient science that encompasses all of these aspects of health: body, mind, heart, spirit, and story.
Within one year of changing lifestyle habits from each of the four areas of my WHOLE being, I was free of autoimmunity. Tests could find was no sign of RA in my blood. According to Western medicine, this was impossible. I discovered I had only been trapped by my lifestyle choices and how they impacted my genetics.
Shortly thereafter, I discovered Functional Medicine and realized this was a model that took the precepts of Ayurveda and translated them into Western language for the modern person. Ever since, I have been using what I now call the Freedom Framework to find and fix the root causes of blocks in my patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energy—while listening to their stories.
