Chi Alpha UNI is a campus ministry at the University of Northern Iowa. We exist to give every student at UNI an opportunity to grow in relationship with Jesus and others. On this podcast, we feature teachings from our Tuesday night gatherings.
This week, we paused our All In series for a special message called More to prepare our hearts for Fall Retreat. Pastor Derek shared about the power of the Holy Spirit and how He moves in our lives when we let Him.
Pastor Amber continued our All In series with a message on spiritual formation, showing us how Peter’s story reveals the importance of being shaped to look like Jesus.
This week, we started a new sermon series called All In. Pastor Derek taught that truly being all in for Jesus means seeking God.
Pastor Derek shared the story of the woman with the alabaster jar, reminding us of the power of going all in with Jesus. Going all in is what leads to the time of your life.
Pastor Derek preached a message on Jesus turning water into wine and how He desires to do that in our lives as well. Through allowing Jesus to use us, we can have the time of our lives while in college.
Pastor Derek preached a message on the story of the women at the well and how Jesus desires to transform our lives in the same way that He transformed her life.
Pastor Derek kicked off the new school year by preaching the first message of our new series, The Time of Your Life. Through the story of the Prodigal Son, he talked about coming home to Jesus and if you do this, college could be more than a detour, rather it could be the time of your life.
Pastor Victor gave his parting message to Chi Alpha as he transitions to a new season as the Sent Church worship Pastor.
Pastor Derek started our final sermon series of the school year. He preached a message on faithfulness and challenged us to change the world by being faithful to what God has asked of us.
Pastor Amber closed out our series on mental health with a message about having a resilient mind. She challenged us to block out our constant need for distraction as we pursue having a sound mind.
Pastor Derek preached the first message on our new series talking about mental health. He showed us how the world and the devil can attack our mental health, and he gave us tips on how to start our journey to having a sound mind.
This week, Pastor Derek preached the second sermon in our current series on mental health. His message was focused on worry, and how different things can cause us to choose worry over the peace of Jesus. He challenged us to listen to the whisper of God instead of the shouts of fear.
Pastor Derek concluded our love series with a message on sex. He walked us through the story of Samson and showed us what is can look like to live a life of sexual purity that not only pleases God, but helps us thrive.
Pastor Derek kicked off our sermon series on love, dating, and marriage with a message on how love can become our idol. He challenged us to evaluate our relationships and to ensure that Jesus is the only thing we worship.
Pastor Amber delivered a message on the topic of dating, and gave us insight into how to date well. She also walked us through what it looks like to date in a way that pleases God while also prioritizing our relationship with Him.
In this latest sermon, Pastor Derek talked about the importance of cultivating our hears for prayer and revival. He taught on how our hearts need to be hungry for the things of God, and for seeing God move on our campus.
In this message, Pastor Derek continued talking about how we can cultivate our hearts by preaching on the importance of reaching others with the good news of Jesus. He encouraged us to live a life for more than ourselves, and emphasized that in order to fully be on fire for Jesus, we must have a heart for others.
Pastor Amber continued our series on cultivating our hearts by preaching on the topic of growth. She taught through the story of Josiah, and challenged us to not let our hearts for Jesus grow stagnant.
Pastor Derek kicked off the spring semester by introducing our new sermon series. This series is all about cultivating our hearts for the different things of God. In this first message, he preached about cultivating a heart for God.
In our final service of the semester, Pastor Derek preached a message on Jesus' father Joseph. He talked about how Joseph faithfully married Mary and raised Jesus even though the situation was uncertain.
We continued our sermon series on different characters from the beginning of Jesus' life, and Pastor Joel gave us a message on Simeon and Anna. He preached about how their greatness came from how they stayed completely devoted to the coming of Jesus in their lives.
Pastor Derek kicked off our final sermon series of the semester with a message on the greatness of John the Baptist. He taught on how he modeled humility in how he lived his life not for his own glory, but for the coming of Jesus.
This week Pastor Amber finished off our sermon series on Counterfeit Truths by sharing about how the suffering we go through shapes our character. She notes how beating the temptation to give in to easy choices shapes us into the person God wants us to become.
For missions week, we got to hear from guest speaker Jake Johnson. Jake and his wife are missionaries to Botswana, and he shared a message on the importance of being sent. He highlighted how we are all sent by God to the people around us.
Pastor Derek continued our sermon series on counterfeit truth with a message on fame and identity. He preached on how our identities need to be rooted in being a son or daughter of Jesus, and not in the approval of others or achievements.
This week, Pastor Derek started our new sermon series on the temptations of Jesus. He taught us how we have both strong desires and deep desires, and how we can avoid the lies in our life by choosing our deepest desires over the desires we feel in the moment.
In week two of our sermon series on the pillars of Chi Alpha, Pastor Derek preached on the importance of community. He emphasized how we cannot follow Jesus alone, and he challenged us to be our authentic selves as we engage in community going forward.
Pastor Daniel Quinby is the lead pastor of Sent Church, and we had the honor of hearing him share with us on how to be devoted to Jesus. He preached on how to spend time with Jesus constantly, and how to get our hearts in a place where it burns for the things of God.
In the final week of this sermon series, Pastor Derek explained how God wants to do a new thing through giving us more of Him. We looked at the story of the early church in Acts, and how they received power from God in a new way.
This week, Pastor Derek emphasized how Jesus does not just want to give us forgiveness and restoration, but he also wants to give us a new purpose.
In week three of our current sermon series, Pastor Derek talked about the holistic life change that Jesus has to offer. He challenged us to give every part of our lives to Jesus and to jump all in for him in order to experience new life.
Pastor Derek walked us through the story of Jesus and the woman at the well. He taught us about the living water that Jesus offers us, and how we will never be truly satisfied until we accept it.
In our first service of the new school year, Pastor Derek launched our opening series with a sermon about the prodigal son. Through this story, he encouraged us to view God as a loving father and as someone who we do not have to perform for. He challenged us to find a new way of coming to God so that we have a correct view of our relationship with him.
In our last service of the school year, Pastor Derek casted vision for what it looks like to have a good summer. He challenged us to spend extravagant time with Jesus, and to pray every day for God to move this upcoming Fall.
We continued our Ready for More series with a message from Pastor Derek. He walked us through the parable of the sower and he challenged us to make sure that the soil of our hearts is ready for God to move in our lives.
Pastor Keziah continued our final sermon series of the year with a message on the image of God. She walked us through what it means to be an image bearer, and she challenged us to be the best representation of Jesus that we can be.
Starting our last series of the school year, Pastor Derek preached a message on taking risks for the sake of the Gospel. He encouraged us with the story of Peter walking on water, and he challenged us to get out of our comfort zones so that God can use us to help change the campus.
Pastor Derek closed out our sermon series on the story of Joseph by talking about how Joseph trusted God through all of his hardship. He highlighted how God had a plan for Joseph's life, and that we too should remember God's faithfulness and trust him with our own lives.
We continued our series on the story of Joseph with a message about Godly character! Pastor Joel showed us how Joseph honored God with his actions no matter what. He challenged us to look inward at our motivations for doing the right things, and encouraged us to center them on Jesus.
We kicked off a new sermon series on the story of Joseph by getting to hear from staff member Aaron Manning! Aaron walked us through Joseph's life and how his family affected him. He then challenged us to look for the ways our own family impacts us with the encouragement that Jesus can define our future.
Pastor Derek closed out our series on love, dating, and sex with a message about the Bible's view on sex. He showed us how to stay pure before God, and encouraged us not to see how close to the line we can get, but to see how close to Jesus we can be.
Pastor KC continued our series on love and dating with a message on singleness. She encouraged us that singleness can be good, and that we should be content in all circumstances. In order to play the game of love, we have to be content during the pause.
Pastor Derek kicked off our sermon series on love, dating, and marriage with a message on dating. He challenged us to look inward before dating and to make sure we are ready for marriage before we even start. To play the game of love, we need to be the person that the person we are looking for is looking for.
Pastor Derek closed out our "Ready for Revival" sermon series by talking about the importance of faith. He challenged us to pray that God would help the areas of unbelief in our lives, and that revival only happens when we have enough faith in God to do it in our time.
In week four of our Ready for Revival series, Pastor Derek talks about the importance of being set apart. He explained that if we want to be used by God in a special way, we have to live in a way that is aligned with the teachings of Jesus. In order to be ready for revival, we have to pursue a life of consecration.
This week, Pastor Derek talked about how revival will not happen in our time until we are wholeheartedly devoted to Jesus. He challenged us to think through the areas of our lives that might be idols, keeping us from spending time with Jesus. To be ready for revival, we have to be fully devoted to seeking His presence.
Pastor Victor continued our sermon series on revival by talking about how God is in the business of restoring broken things. He encouraged us that no matter what we have done, God's saving grace and restoration can make us a new creation that he can use for his glory.
Pastor Derek kicked off our first service of the semester by proclaiming how God wants to do big things in 2024. He encouraged us that if we want to see revival on our campus, we have to be hungry for his presence, and persistent in prayer. Only when we do this, will we be ready for revival.Parts of the sermon were inspired by Jon Tyson's "God Comes Where He's Wanted" series from Church of the City New York.
In our last service of the semester, Pastor Derek talked about how we can share the light of Jesus to others. He explained how we can't show others the light, however, until we clear out the things in our heart that blocks it. If we can make a path in our hearts and pursue holiness, God will make the light shine through.
This week we got to hear from Amber Enos, who is an associate staff member with Chi Alpha! She continued our current series about the coming of Jesus in the book of John. She explained the importance of Jesus coming in the flesh, and how his ultimate sacrifice on earth means never-ending grace for us.
Kicking off our final sermon series of the semester, Pastor Derek preached on John chapter one. He talked about how Jesus is the light against darkness, and how the light always wins. No matter how dark our lives get, the light is always present.
In part five of our Becoming series, Pastor Derek talked about what greatness looks like within the Kingdom of God. He highlighted how Jesus modeled true greatness through servant-hearted leadership by washing the disciples feet. We are all called to live service by humbling ourselves and serving others.
Pastor Derek continued our sermon series about the areas in our lives we can grow in to become more like Jesus. This week, he walked us through Genesis and how the devil tempted Eve with lies. He then encouraged us to find freedom from the lies and sins that entrap us in our own lives by confessing them to God and to others.
Pastor KC continued our sermon series on what it looks like to be a healthy Jesus follower by teaching us how to find friendship. She showed us how Jesus modeled what it looks like to be the ultimate friend to others, and she challenged us by calling us to something deeper than surface level relationships.
Pastor Derek continued our teaching on the Holy Spirit, and this week he talked about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He walked us through how the Disciples in Acts received this baptism and how it was necessary for them to obtain the power of God in order to start the early church. Similarly, we also need the power of the Holy Spirit so that we can walk into all that God is calling us to.
To kick off our sermon series about the Holy Spirit, we welcomed Daniel Quinby, who is the pastor of Sent Church, as a guest speaker. He outlined for us who the Holy Spirit is and his role in our lives. He then emphasized our need for him to be active in our lives if we are to fulfill all that God has for us.
Pastor Derek continued our series on the six elements that help make us a healthy disciple of Jesus by talking about the importance of knowing ourselves. He challenged us to dig deeper into ourselves in order to discover why we do the things we do. Knowing ourselves helps us know who God has made us to be.
We kicked off our second sermon series of the school year, and it is all about the six areas that we believe make up a healthy disciple of Jesus. Pastor Victor started us off by walking us through what it looks like to know God. He talked about how Moses climbed Mount Sinai to be with God, and likewise, he challenged us to ascend the mountain daily and be with Jesus.
Pastor Derek finished our first sermon series of the year by telling us the story of Lazarus' death and resurrection. He taught us how Jesus wept with Mary, showing us how Jesus cares about our present circumstances even though he knows the future. The journey of a lifetime is about journeying back to the future that we have in Jesus.
In the third week of our new sermon series, Pastor Derek continued to take us on a journey of what it looked like to follow Jesus on earth. He highlighted the story of Jesus turning water into wine, and how Jesus wants to make us new in him. To embark on the journey of a lifetime, we have to start a new journey.
Pastor Derek preached the second sermon of the new school year by walking us through the story of Jesus and the woman at the well. He talked about how Jesus is the only thing that will fulfill us, and how the things of this world will only leave us wanting more. The Journey of a Lifetime is about journeying to Jesus, who is the well of living water.
We kicked off a new school year with a brand new sermon series titled: Journey of a Lifetime! Pastor Derek told us how Jesus is like a forgiving father who loves us no matter our background. He showed us how following Jesus is the journey of a lifetime, and we start it by journeying home.
Pastor Derek closed out our last service of the school year by casting vision for where Chi Alpha is headed. He shared that the vision of Chi Alpha is Jesus, and that the dream is for every student to run after Him.
Pastor KC gave us a message continuing our series titled "Awaken". She preached on how Jesus is the only one who can give us true rest and fulfill our needs. She challenged us to sacrifice our need to be self-sufficient in order for Jesus to give us so much more.
Amber, one of the Chi Alpha interns, continued our series titled "Awaken". She preached on how we need to follow the crucified Jesus of the Bible and not the Americanized Jesus that we so often believe in.
Pastor Derek kicked off our new sermon series by talking about spiritual awakening! He explained how God comes where He is wanted, and he challenged us by asking what we really want most in our lives.
This week, Pastor Derek preached on how to find our calling in life, and how to know whether or not our plans are in line with God's. He encouraged us all by reminding us how we are called to reach those around us no matter what our vocation is.
Pastor Derek continued our marketplace ministry series with a message about service. He emphasized how we can live for a greater purpose in Jesus through serving those around us and in the marketplace.
We kicked off our new sermon series by welcoming guest speaker Clint Whitcome! He outlined what it can look like to be in ministry in a career field, and he encouraged us to always be on mission at our workplaces.
This week, Pastor Derek brought us a message on sex to continue our love and dating series. He walked us through what Jesus has to say about our sex lives, and he challenged us to set healthy boundaries in our lives to help us avoid sin.
Pastor KC continued our love and dating series with a message on the four different types of love, and how each one can be applied to our lives. She highlighted "agape" love, and taught us how this Godly form of love can be best practiced in our lives.
Pastor Derek kicked off our new dating series by not only outlining what dating should look like as a Jesus follower, but also how we can assess whether or not we are ready to start dating in the first place. He challenged us to give over our relationships to Jesus and let Him lead us in a healthy direction.
Pastor Victor guided us through the third week of our Formed series with a message about looking at our past. He preached on how we must look to how our past has shaped us so that we can be prepared to lead a healthy future.
This week, Pastor Derek continued our series on formation as he talked about how important our heart is to Jesus. He talked about how important it is to avoid hypocrisy by being vulnerable with God and others about who we truly are.
At the first service of the new year, Pastor Derek taught us how our busy lifestyle keeps us from being formed into the image of God. He explained how we need to slow down, and he emphasized how we need to prioritize being with God over doing things for God.
For the last service of the semester, Pastor Derek showed us what Godly surrender looks like through how Mary and Joseph surrendered their lives to God's will. He also gave us ten steps on how to have a successful and healthy break!
This Tuesday, Pastor Victor continued continued our "Right to Beauty" series with a message about going to Jesus for rest. We looked at how Jesus is gentle and lowly at heart, and how we can surrender our burdens to Him.
This week, Pastor Derek introduced our last sermon series of the semester "Right to Beauty". We learned how Jesus set the example of service by humbling himself before others and washing their feet. We know to serve others in this way, because Jesus served us first.
Last night, Pastor Derek Quinby continued our "Right to Live Missions" series by talking about how important it is for us to share Jesus with others. He highlighted how Jesus is worthy of our lives, and how His beauty should motivate us to share our faith with others.
Last night Pastor Jon Griffin kicked off our Right to Live Missions series that focuses on the importance of reaching others with the gospel. He emphasized that our relationship with Jesus should be personal but not private. Jesus' presence changes circumstance and perspective.
Our former Chi Alpha director Pastor Daniel Quinby and the pastor of Sent Church came to campus to continue our Right to More series. He shared what life can practically look like after the move of God that students experienced through fall retreat last weekend. He emphasized the importance of becoming a friend of the Holy Spirit and how to keep the fire burning after we experience Him.
This week Pastor Derek continued our series, Right to More by diving deeper into how the Holy Spirit can operate in our daily lives, emphasizing on the gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Encounters with the Holy Spirit take time, intentionality, and are meant to change us.
Last week Pastor Derek talked about the character of the Holy Spirit and how He works in our lives. We can have confidence knowing that when we follow Jesus we have access to His Holy Spirit that can help us bear fruit.
Pastor Derek wrapped up our series Right to Family with a message that encouraged vulnerability within community. Confession of sin within community creates an opportunity for freedom and accountability. If we hide our struggles, we may feel alone in our sin, but if we express them, we can help one another gain freedom.
Pastor KC started our Right to Family series with a message that emphasized the importance of having vulnerable community. She shared that when your family is dear to you, you will lay down your life, be there for each other, and fight for each other. She referenced 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12 to paint the picture of what this practically looks like.
This week Pastor Derek wrapped up our sermon series, "Right to Royalty", with a message about our Birthright. In this message he emphasized that God knows the best way to live in this universe, which is following His commands for our life. When we sell our birthright for the things of this world, we are saying that living for God is not worth it. We must trust God with our lives and know that He has what is best for us. This allows us to live in His freedom.
Pastor Derek continued our "Right to Royalty" series with a message titled "Royal Presence." The story of Mary and Martha painted a picture of what it looks like to simply be with Jesus instead of doing things for Him to earn His love. Derek showed us what it looks like to grow in intimacy with Jesus through intentional relationship and communion instead of adding Him to our checklist.
Pastor Derek continued our Right to Royalty series with the second sermon last night, Royal Water. He preached on story of the woman at the well in John 4 and shared what it means to receive living water from Jesus. We must find our satisfaction through the living water of Jesus and not momentary fixes.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek kicked off the school year preaching over the parable of the prodigal son. Through this series we're going to be looking at our birthright as a son or daughter of our King.
For our last Tuesday of the 2021-2022 school year, Pastor Derek sent our students off with vision for their lives and this coming school year. We got to spend time before the sermon to celebrate our 19 students that are graduating, most of them moving into the workplace mission field. The rest of our students are coming back next with a vision to make disciples who make disciples who live a life of real devotion, real community, and real responsibility.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek spoke on our third life within our sermon series, the life of Daniel. Going through the book of Daniel, Pastor Derek showed us how Daniel remained firm in the Lord while the culture around him was shifting away from God. We can look to Daniel's and the three brother's faith as a model for resisting ungodly culture when we are away from our community on the campus.
This week, Victor continued our newest series, where we are walking through the lives of people in the Bible. We looked at the life of King David and how even though he made critical mistakes, he got to experience God's grace. Through humbling ourselves, we have the opportunity to accept God's grace as well.
This week, Pastor Derek started our last sermon series of the school year, where we'll be walking through the lives of people in the Bible. We started off by looking at Joshua's life and how he consecrated himself for the Lord. Remaining reliant and obedient to the Lord, Joshua saw victory over Jericho.
This Tuesday, Pastor Katie finished up our sermon series over prayer with a timeless message over intercessory prayer. She spoke over Moses interceding for the Israelites in Exodus 32, and we learned that we engage in intercessory prayer because we want to see God move in the lives around us. Our prayer is that we wouldn't sit around worrying about things instead of praying for them.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek taught us how to pray like Jesus through dissecting the Lord's Prayer and applying the P.R.A.Y. acronym to it. The main idea for this sermon was praying like Jesus means connecting to our Father. This looks like pausing and silencing our thoughts, rejoicing in what the Lord is doing in your life, asking him for your needs and the needs of others, and yielding to his will over your life.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek started a new sermon series titled Pray Like This, with the first sermon teaching us how to pray like children. We went through Mark 10 to see how Jesus responds to children and then looked at how children act today. They’re honest, they ask, and they’re talkative and we applied these to our prayer lives to grow in praying like children.
This Tuesday we ended our love series by having pastor Jon and KC take us through the topic of marriage. We looked at the first marriage relationship in Genesis 2 with Adam and Eve, and we talked about the four purposes of marriage taken from John Mark Comer's book Loveology; Friendship, Gardening, Sex, and Family.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through Judges 14 where it tells the story of Samson and the lion. We learned that we need to run away from "the cliff of sex" and run towards Jesus. Pastor Derek taught us that we must trust the creator of sex over the creation that is sex.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek continued our love series by speaking on the topic of dating. We looked into the relationship that the man and woman had in the book song of Solomon, and we looked at what our relationships should look like on the way to marriage using John Mark Comer's four marks; the chase, the line, the friends, and the journey to the day.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek kicked off our love series! We walked through 1 John 4 and talked about God's attribute of love as well as the four different types of love in the greek language.
This week, Pastor Derek finished off one of our favorite sermon series, Lies at Large, speaking more on the third enemy of the soul, the world. While the last two weeks have touched on the lies and desires within our flesh, this week Pastor Derek showed us how the world deceives us through normalizing sin.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek continued our sermon series by speaking on how the flesh deceives us through our disordered desires. He dives into the difference between our strongest desirers and our deepest desirers and helps us discern between the two.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek started the semester off with a new sermon series titled Lies at Large, inspired by a book called "Live No Lies" by John Mark Comer. Pastor Derek explained who the devil is and how he uses lies to keep us from God.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek wrapped up our sermon series, and our fall semester with a powerful message! Looking at Simeon's prophecy over Mary and the "sword that will pierce her soul", Derek explained that when we're faced with inner turmoil, causing us to choose between this world and God, we must look to Jesus.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek gave a message over expectantly waiting. For many college students, their season of life looks like waiting to step into their careers and start the next chapter, but no matter what season you're in the Lord is calling us to be patient and expectantly wait for his guidance.
This Tuesday, Pastor Katie preached a powerful message on surrendering our lives to God. Through the story of Jesus's earthly father and Katie's personal experiences in this matter, everyone in the room left knowing we can choose to surrender and let God lead.
This Tuesday, Pastor KC shared her heart for how we need to be people who cast our worries on the Lord. God is bigger than the things we stress about and is honored when we trust him enough to place our worries at his feet. Matthew 6 tells us not to worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear, for our heavenly Father knows what we need and will provide as we seek his kingdom and righteousness.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek kicked off our final sermon series of 2021, called ‘tis the season! We took a deep dive into Jesus’s true nature of being our meek and lowly savior. If the God of the universe humbled himself to be born a human in a stinky manger, then we can become people who are gentle and lowly at heart, humbling ourself and letting God do the exalting.
This Tuesday, we had a very special guest at Chi Alpha! The former lead pastor, Daniel Quinby, who is now the lead pastor at Sent Church, taught us about the gifts of the spirit. He explains why spiritual gifts are lacking in the western church, what the apostle Paul says about them, and what they're intended for.
This week at UNI's Chi Alpha, Pastor Derek shed some light on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:4-8 tells us to "wait for the gift my Father promised", which is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and that we will "receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on us". This week, we talked about the third person in the trinity. Victor Martinez, one of our staff members, walked us through who the Holy Spirit is and how he empowers us to look more like Jesus.
This Tuesday, Pastor Derek walked us through what it means to find, feed, and fight for the lost lambs on our campus. This truism is the definition of real responsibility at chi alpha, and is part of our foundational pillars.
On Tuesday, Pastor Jon taught what real community looks like. Community is essential in everyone's life. For a Christian, it's attained through creating fellowship and having intimate relationships by being vulnerable with each other.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through the story of Mary and Martha. We learned more about what intimacy is, why we should pursue it, and what it looks like to have an intimate relationship with God through having real devotion with king Jesus.
On Tuesday, Pastor Derek took us through the story of the rich, young ruler. Hopelessness is often around us, but we were reminded that hope is on the horizon with Jesus, He is our hope, and there is joy in joining His family.

On Tuesday, Pastor Derek took us through the parable of the prodigal son. Hopelessness is often around us, but we were reminded that hope is on the horizon with Jesus, He is our hope, and there is joy in joining His family.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through 2 Timothy 4:7 where Paul talks about how he "fought the good fight" and he "finished the race". Pastor Derek taught us how to finish our race well with the rest of this semester, but also with our college careers. He showed us the importance of running our own race and how much it can impact another person's life.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through Matthew chapter 5 where we learned that we must die to comfort. We learned that we must die to the comfort of our "normal" lives when we go home for the summer so that we can live to persecution. Pastor Derek reminded us that this summer break might be hard as we go home, but we must be okay with being uncomfortable for the Kingdom of God.
This week, Pastor Jon taught us that we must die to disunity and live to peace. We learned that peacemakers cannot be divided with each other and that peacemakers must remain pure of heart. Pastor Jon taught us that we can do all of the right things, but if we don't know Jesus it was all for nothing.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through Matthew chapter 5 where we learned about Jesus says about hope at the Sermon on the Mount. We learned that we must die to the despair in our life so that we can live to hope. Pastor Derek taught us that we should remain joyful in times of despair.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through Luke 9:23 where Jesus tells us that we must deny ourselves and take up our cross daily and follow Him. We learned that our old sinful self and our new self cannot coexist, we must die to our old self daily so that the new can live.

We learned that it isn't about the amount that we give, its about our hearts when we give and the trust we have in God when we give.

He took us through chapter 2 of Song of Solomon where it talks about the chase, the line, the friends, and the journey to the day in our dating relationships. We learned that the rising action of our love story is dating with intentionality.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through Psalm 37 where we learned that we must wait patiently throughout our love story no matter where we are at in it. Pastor Derek gave us a few practical ways to wait patiently in our life whether that be in our relationships or in other areas of life.
This week, Pastor Katie took us through Exodus 3 where God called Moses to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. We learned that God does not need us to do anything, but He wants us. Pastor Katie taught us that God does not depend on anything or anyone, but we must depend on God. God is the only One that we can depend on because He will never fail us.
This week, Pastor Derek continued in the series New Year. New You. Same God. He took us through Matthew 18 where we see Jesus tell Peter to forgive seventy-seven times. Pastor Derek talked about the importance of forgiving the people we are frustrated with. He reminded us that our bitterness towards someone isn't hurting them, but it's hurting our own relationship with God.
This week, we started off a new series: New Year. New You. Same God. Pastor Derek started off the new year teaching about the Immutability of God. He took us through Luke 22 with the story of Peter denying Jesus. We learned that God never changes, but we can.

Paul and Silas were praying and singing to the Lord and an earthquake had opened all of the doors in the jail and all their bonds were loosened. We learned that we must worship even when we don't feel like it because the Lord moves when He hears our praises.
This week, Pastor Derek walked us through several chapters of Acts where it teaches us about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Derek showed us several stories of the Bible where believers are Baptized in the Holy Spirit. We learned that we have access to the promise and the power of the Holy Spirit. We also learned four ways that the Holy Spirit helps us!
This week, Pastor Daniel walked us through Matthew 24 where it teaches us that we must take responsibility for establishing God's rule throughout the earth. Pastor Daniel taught us the importance of each of us proclaiming the gospel to the whole world. We learned that we need to spread the name of the Lord on our campus, in our city, and to our world until every tribe and nation hears the name of Jesus.

We learned that we can be blessed by inviting people to come alongside us who we wouldn't normally invite. Pastor Derek taught us that we need to welcome and love the outsider so that they can become an insider. We need to welcome, love, and serve the outsiders.
This week, Pastor Jon took us through James 5 where it tells us to confess our sins to one another and to pray for one another. Pastor Jon taught us the importance of having close friendships with people that you can be vulnerable with. We learned the difference between transparency and vulnerability and to be a good community member we need to be vulnerable, seek Jesus in prayer, and pray for people when we're with them.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through 1 Corinthians where we learn how we are all an important part of the body of God. Pastor Derek taught on the importance of Real Community and how each of us play a very important part in Chi Alpha, and especially in small groups. We learned that we all need community, and the community needs each of us.
This week, Pastor Derek took us through Luke 5 where we find the story of the fishermen who toiled all night and caught no fish. Pastor Derek taught on how we were each created on purpose and for a purpose. That purpose is to glorify His name and to become fishers of men. We learned that we must obey when it may not make sense to us but the Lord is calling us to do so.

Pastor Derek taught on what Real Devotion is and how we must try to be like Mary and abide with Jesus and not fall into the trap of being like Martha. We learned that if we want more, we must be with Jesus.
