Welcome to Season 9 of the Susan Beth podcast. If you missed it, we made a big shift last year going from the She Is podcast to using my name, but no worries. The She Is message is alive and it's thriving in the new She Is Awakening seasonal journal podcast that launched this year alongside the seasonal journal.

You know, it's hard to believe that nine years ago I took a leap, grabbed my phone, stepped into my closet, and recorded the very first episode of this podcast. If you had told me back then that I'd still be here showing up every week, I don't think that I would have believed you. But here we are and I couldn't be more excited.

In some ways, I'm so different from the woman who pressed record that day. But in many ways, the things that were stirring in my heart that I so wanted to give voice to all of those years ago are still very much the same. One thing that has never changed, and honestly, it's grown even stronger, is how deeply in awe I am of God's faithfulness. Our God is so committed to finishing what He started in each of us. So as long as I can, I'll be right here cheering you on, encouraging you to say yes to everything that God has put in you because it so beautifully reveals his beauty and goodness to the world.

Thank you for being here, friend. You're so welcome here and you are so, so loved. Season nine, let's go.

Hey, hey, I hope you're doing well. You believe we are heading into the last week of May. And with the celebration of Memorial Day, some of you might be having a long weekend. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. May is a special month of memories that signifies for many walking out of one season of life and into the next. The momentum of May, nestled in the season of spring, is all about growth and things blossoming and blooming around us.

As I read some posts from graduates, I can remember all of the feelings that I felt. It's an exciting time, but I know for me, as exciting as it all was, I felt very sentimental about my high school days ending. I knew that life as I had become accustomed to was forever going to change. I knew that all of my best friends in that friend circle, as we all went to different cities and states for school, that more than likely those relationships would not remain the same.

It's an exciting time, and it can feel in that moment that everyone in your world is celebrating you and cheering you on. If you receive emails from me, you might notice that I often end my notes with "cheering you on." Those words mean something to me when I'm sending them out to you for you to read. I want you to know that if no one else is in your ear, in your world, cheering you on, I am.

As adults, we sometimes feel a void when that encouragement is absent. We can't help but feel it, which leads us to waiting on validation or recognition to continue or move forward fully into something. Maybe you're hearing this and thinking, that's me. There are things that you think about that you want to try or to learn about, but deep down inside, you feel like you have to be invited into that new space.

One day, it sunk in for me that many people who stepped out of their boxes did so because they gave themselves permission. I believe that we are being invited and have been given permission by the one who designed and created us. You know the feeling because you have them too. You know the things that tug at your heart that maybe doesn't tug at everyone else around you. There's a reason for that.

What a beautiful reminder that spring is the season of growth. And there is plenty of growth for us to witness as we look around in nature, as well as in the lives and all the celebrations taking place around us. I would love to remind you today that the season of spring will continue to come around for you. You don't outgrow seasons. Each and every day is a fresh opportunity to grow in the goodness and knowledge of God and be invited every day to co-labor with Him.

My husband, Ron, and I always said to our five kids when they were growing up that we wanted them to be learners and to love learning. It amazes me sometimes that for me, someone that hated classrooms and schools, I'm constantly reading and studying and learning. So here's to learning and loving and continuing to grow into everything that our God planned and purposed for us. Love you guys. And we will talk soon.

In this episode, Susan Beth explores the concept of personal growth and how it necessitates stepping out of comfort zones. Comparing this process to the seasons, particularly the blooming and transformation of spring, she highlights the necessity of embracing discomfort for growth. She emphasizes the idea that our deep-seated desires, instilled in us by the universe's creator, serve as the map to our purpose.

Using the metaphor of motherhood, Susan discusses the physical and emotional stretching a mother experiences, leading to nurturing a new life. This life-changing event is a testament to how growth and transformation, though challenging, yield priceless rewards. She then relates this process to personal and professional development, emphasizing the importance of being open to changes and unseen opportunities behind-the-scenes.

Highlighting the teachings from the Spring Journal and scriptures from Ephesians 3, Susan encourages listeners to mature into the fullness of all that they were created to be. Looking beyond the earthly focus on "doing," she urges the focus on "being," believing that the deeds flow naturally from the state of being. As she conveys God's desire for us to live a life brimming with His fullness, she encourages each one listening to say yes to his divine invitation.

In summary, this podcast episode is an immersive guide on embracing growth, transcending boundaries, and maturing into the fullness of one's purpose.

In this episode of the Susan Beth podcast, the topic of personal growth amidst everyday "noise" is explored wholeheartedly. Susan takes listeners on a journey exploring how, sometimes, it feels like we are straying away from what society perceives as progress. But in reality, the quiet introspection, the pulling back, is growth in its own, often unseen, way.

From her own personal experiences and the analysis of personality traits, Susan effortlessly links these concepts to explain why we often feel conflicted in our journey towards growth. She illustrates how our unique nature and preferences may lead us to perceive our individual growth paths differently from what society or others around us may think.

As she navigates the realm of social media and the pressure it exerts on us to meet particular standards, Susan emphasizes the importance of listening to our own individual processes, which may sometimes mean disconnecting from external influences. She defines personal growth as an intrinsic process and encourages listeners to trust the divine desires planted within them.

Sharing her personal narrative on loss, dealing with lingering sickness, and navigating change, Susan uses these stories to remind listeners that personal growth isn't always linear, fast-paced, or even visible. It's a unique process that may look different from one individual to another.

Susan compels her listeners to listen closely to their inner voice, drown the noise from the exterior world, eschew societal opinions, and fully trust themselves. In doing so, she assuredly wraps every listener in a comforting truth - we are all growing in our own beautiful way, right where we are, just as we should be.

In today's episode, we explore the beauty of the seasons following Resurrection Sunday, an integral part of our Christian faith that invigorates our spirits, filling our days with gratitude and empowerment. This sacred occasion invites us to celebrate both a season and a day alike, connecting to our deep roots of faith and spiritual traditions.

I share my artistic musings present in seasonal journals, each embodying themes intimate to their respective seasons. This episode features a spring journal, bearing an image symbolizing the transformative power of spring, a season where life rejuvenates from the remains of the deceased. You can download a copy for yourself from the episode notes if you'd like to possess this powerful reminder.

The essence of this episode roots back to a profound question: what is the one thing dying to spring up from within you? I believe God doesn't desire you to exist in the shadow of someone you idolize, but to live a life that He purposed for you, embodying your unique intuition in every stride of existence, reflecting His image in the world.

I'm deeply passionate about propagating this message because feeling the joy pulsating in every cell of my body is what I long for you to experience. A life where you love God with all you have and savor the love He showers upon you. You exist because you are loved, and your life is a tribute to that divine love.

As we progress on this journey, ask yourself: what is dying to spring up out of you? Take your time to ponder. Reflect on your spiritual journey, your divine purpose, and unfold the underlying narratives of your existence.

Your path is unique, and following the crowd may misdirect you from your divine purpose. By accepting your personal narrative, you step closer to understanding your spiritual journey and breaking free from societal molds. God has a plan for you, and choosing His path may be challenging but will lead you to beautiful destinations.

Let's appreciate the resurrection of dead things to new life. Let's trust the Holy Spirit's divine power to rejuvenate us, awakening our spirits to the beauty and goodness that nourishes our soul and draws people to Him.

In this episode, I explore a question that many of us grapple with - "Is God asking you to do that?" Inspired by a podcast where I found myself wondering just that, I dive into the world of trying to unravel the purpose of God and the purpose of man.

It's not a task for the faint-hearted. When we try to untangle these purposes, it's akin to dealing with two intertwined necklaces. It is unclear which one is leading, but most importantly: we need to question whose yoke we are wearing. This gives rise to another vital question - are we choosing to wear the heavy yoke of burdensome law-keeping or adhering to the lighter yoke that Jesus promised?

The enemy may try to make us feel like we're missing out, but I am here to remind you that when your heart is towards God and his matters, you will not miss what God intends for you. Discover how exploring this concept can help you navigate through life in the various seasons. Remember, everyone's journey looks different, and that's not a bad thing.

My message today is not about figuring out how to find rest amidst chaos, it's more about asking the question - are you supposed to do all this in the first place? Understanding our role in following God is vital. It's not about creating our salvation; it’s about surrendering to God’s will. Our task is to be formed into the image of Jesus, living out everyday ordinary life centered around this goal.

Join me in this episode as we navigate the waters of understanding God's purpose and find the courage to let go of the unnecessary in our own lives. Remember, you're loved, and your Creator is forever faithful. Keep showing up in the world, just as God purposed you to do, because your unique self is exactly what the world needs.

This is the tension we hold in this earthly realm…pain and heartbreak in the midst of wonder-filled precious moments of life. For most of us, it takes effort and intention to stay present and not miss the beauty to be found in the moment …a moment that is surrounded by hard.

And as a fellow sister that has walked through and navigated a few Winter seasons I can remember how the chill in the air and the dark days of Winter can feel endless. We long to see light in our circumstances and on our path and the light seems like it’s hiding the answers we so desperately crave.

But I can also testify to the mystery that a winter season holds for us that I was surprised by and wasn’t expecting to find…answers in the dark.

It’s as if it takes some time for our eyes and vision to adjust to the light of Winter… but once it does it’s as if the whispers of our Creator are reflecting answers back to us like the winter sun hitting the pure white snow.

Answers and revelations, so pure and breathtaking… so sacred… so solid.

Susan Beth takes listeners on a journey through a metaphorical 'spring cleaning' of our lives - a process which entails discarding what no longer serves us, reclaiming joyous elements that have been lost, and creating space for new growth. This episode serves as a reminder that every ending is a new beginning, just as every farewell makes room for fresh hellos.

Susan draws insights from everyday experiences - such as cleaning, purging, and organizing our homes - and applies these actions to personal and spiritual growth. The process of decluttering is not only about creating physical space, but also about releasing emotional baggage, letting go of familiar but unproductive habits, and setting up effective boundaries.

Subsequently, we dive into deep cleaning which necessitates intensive work but culminates in peace and delight. Quoting Song of Solomon, Susan encourages listeners to celebrate the new season and invites them to ponder on what's budding within, waiting to bloom. The ultimate question of the podcast - what is dying to spring up out of you in this season – leads to introspection and inspiration for personal growth.

This episode is a must-listen if you're navigating change, seeking growth, or looking for motivation to declutter your life physically, emotionally, and spiritually. And remember, like Susan says, each season with its challenges and triumphs is a gift. Just as every day comes with fresh mercies, every season brings with it new grace, and the divine is with you through all seasons of life.

In our formative years, our identity is often shaped by those closest to us, but ultimately, our true identity is rooted in Christ. As we grow and navigate the waters of life, we begin to understand that our thoughts and perceptions about our identity could inadvertently conflict with God's intended purpose for our lives. The essence of this episode is to encourage you to connect deeply to the Creator and allow His Spirit to guide and strengthen you.

I share personal experiences about my search for purpose, about how I've learned that God has given us foundational rules for life, and how learning to live in alignment with these principles forms the bedrock of life. We'll delve into why your true identity lies in recognizing that you're a beloved creation of God, each purposed for good, despite the winter seasons we may encounter in life.

We'll also explore how not feeling God's love and connection can lead us to seek fulfillment from our mortal relationships. While these relationships could potentially enrich our lives, they are incapable of nourishing our spirit and soul like our Creator.

Here are some thought-provoking questions designed to help you delve deeper into discovering your true identity in Christ. From the words of Psalm 41 11, "You know me inside and out. You hold me together. You never fail to stand me tall in your presence so I can look you in the eye", may you find solace and fulfillment in the arms of the Creator.

In this episode of the Susan Beth Podcast, we discuss the concept of "Weathering Winter", drawing from Psalm 9:9 which states that God serves as a safe haven for the battered, a sanctuary during bad times. We explore how this verse can guide us through the brutal winter seasons in life, seasons that often ravage us, leaving us battered and bruised, but also opening pathways for transformation and growth.

We delve into how a debilitating storm can bring beauty we never knew existed, even in the form of a soul-crushing season. The prompts we suggest for reflection aim to help your spiritual processing of the transformations that can follow in the wake of a winter storm. Wrestling with things like whether we are resisting the transformation that can follow a storm and if we're truly trusting the shelter God provides in these seasons.

Our invitation is to commit to weathering life’s winters from a safe and sacred space, walking out with a limp but also thriving, acknowledging that while survival is exemplary, the goal is to flourish.

Stay blessed and stay connected.

Welcome to the latest episode of the Susan Beth Podcast! Susan Beth discusses embracing life's seasons, especially the barren ones, with a newly intentional experience. As believers, we need to trust that we are inherently designed with purpose and that the intuition deep within us is not coincidental, but rather divine guidance.

In this episode, Susan delves into the significance of our winter season, symbolizing our life's barren stages. She encourages listeners to find beauty in barrenness and learn from seasons that may seem devoid of growth. These seasons, Susan says, are times when we can experience profound life lessons and personal growth, and deepen our connection with the divine as distractions are removed. She illuminates how these seasons of solitude can lead to inner enlightenment and self-discovery, progress, and strength.

Delving deeper into this theme, Susan shares a thought-provoking verse from John Chapter 1 (3-5) from the Message Bible. According to Susan, barren seasons offer opportunities for re-valuation and re-alignment, urging us to live a genuine and God-aligned life. She optimistically holds that, akin to the natural bloom following winter, our barren seasons too precede an awakening and flourishing of all the latent potential within us.

The episode concludes with some enlightening and thought-provoking introspective questions designed for listeners to ponder over. Life is truly an ongoing journey from barren to beautiful.

Stay tuned to the end for a heartfelt prayer.

In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "rooted." Like the root systems that provide nourishment and stability to plants, our spiritual roots play an essential role in sustaining our lives, providing nourishment, stability, and a connection to something greater.

Just as the roots of a tree delve deep into the soil, we can establish spiritual roots to ground ourselves in times of uncertainty and challenge. This spiritual foundation serves as a source of strength and resilience, nourishing our souls in times of adversity.

Drawing parallels with root systems of trees, we take a look at how spiritual roots offer anchoring and stability against life's challenges. As a tree's roots provide it stability against external forces such as wind and storms, strong spiritual roots help us navigate the storms of life with resilience.

Just like trees utilize their roots for absorbing essential nutrients and water, facilitating growth and health, our spiritual roots serve as sources of nourishment for our souls. They facilitate spiritual growth, and resilience and offer a deep, enriching experience of connection with the divine.

We also discuss how a spiritual journey marked by resilience, compassion, and purpose can emerge from being rooted. Even though such progress often goes unseen, like roots working from unseen depths, it doesn't diminish its importance.

This opens up probing questions. What is your root source? Is it life-giving and sustaining? How can you be more intentional about your spiritual roots, nurturing growth in your life? Listen on to seek answers and attain a resilient, rooted spiritual life.

In this episode of the Susan Beth podcast, Susan explores a concept she calls 'holy discontent.' She invites listeners to interpret those nagging feelings of desiring something more as divine nudges, inviting them to a richer, more purposeful life. From the monotony of January to the joys of February, Susan encourages you to experience every facet of your journey deliberately. She underscores the importance of being present in every season of life and transforming unfulfilled desires into spirit-guided action.

Susan aims to debunk the misconception that we lack resources or capabilities, sharing instead that we possess everything we need to realize the lives we were designed to live. Framing signs of discontent as divine, she guides listeners toward the pursuit of a higher purpose

Exploring the connection between personal discontentment and divine calling, she takes inspiration from biblical narratives that depict temporal suffering and eternal reward, emphasizing that circumstances don't define God's power. She encourages listeners to surrender control and let God manifest the desired transformation in their lives.

Susan's ultimate objective is to create a communal space that inspires listeners to embrace and navigate their seasons of life with gracious faith and divine trust. The result is a journey that aligns hearts and minds to see heaven's traces in daily life.

The SHE IS Podcast: https://susanbeth.com/thesheispodcast

In the last episode which was our Sunday episode that runs parallel with the weekly focus from the She is Awakening Seasonal Journal the weekly focus was Solitude. And I mentioned wanting to continue some of the thoughts started there in this week's episode that you are listening to now :)

In case you haven’t listened to that episode yet I’ll recap on a few things but you can go back and listen to that episode later.

Solitude can be an intimidating even scary word for some of us.

But as complicated as the word might sound to us…

solitude is simply where we show up with God simply as ourselves

That’s it. Pure and simple.

A sacred space for us and our God

I shared how I think solitude has become a foreign and intimidating idea for us because we live in a culture that is addicted to noise. Our lives are filled with one distraction after another. We have the world in our fingerprints. At any moment we can reach out to a friend across the world or be made aware of the latest news of the moment.

It’s a gift AND it’s a lot!!!

It’s a gift in that we can stay connected to people in a way that was never possible before, but it’s a lot in that we weren’t designed to have constant stimulation and dopamine hits… and it’s addicting. It literally changes our brains.

Because of the opportunity we all have for constant distractions, we are the ones who have to be intentional about how we want to live.

How many of you have found yourself opening apps on your phone without any known thought that you want to once again check any email updates or see any latest posts on social? We mindlessly do these things because we’ve done it so often that it's a natural impulse and response within us. It’s scary but no one is going to take our phones from our hands. It’s something we must intentionally make a choice to do. And when I started trying to intentionally not be so connected to a device in my hand. I found I had to take baby steps… walk downstairs and leave my phone upstairs.

This past week I shared a screenshot in my stories of my “weekly report” that pops up on my phone each week informing me of the hours spent on this little device. It informed me that my screen time was down 53% in the past week. So I was asking if anyone else feels like they’ve failed when they get the message of a lower percentage for the week haha I think it’s just how it’s worded that it always makes me feel like it is a negative which is really funny since it’s actually a positive and usually intentional.

But it doesn’t just happen…we have to be intentional about changing our relationship with our phones or continue being led by its influence and impact in our lives and the way we think.

our instinct is to reach out to someone …something …

to ease our discomfort of being alone or give us the answer to the question

when I think we all know the real answer to that scenario

anything we reach for to ease any pain or discomfort in our lives is only a temporary fix

this looks different for each of us…

it can be shopping, pornography, or a bag of cookies… it looks different, but the roots are all the same.

we do the same with people and there’s nothing wrong with processing but even with that, I think we can push it just like sharing personal details about someone else life in the name of concern or we need to be praying for them.

How about we use the oxygen and energy we just used to personally do just that?

Because here’s what I’ve found when I do that FIRST, I don’t find the need to share it with someone else!

We all have this desire to connect and express our needs and desires

we just need to keep that in order

And sometimes we do need to have a conversation with someone else about I’ve found that after ‘processing it with Holy Spirit’ it’s a little different conversation than what the draft I had been creating in my head

Why do we continually reach for advice or opinions from others instead of getting still and allowing the spirit of God to teach us and lead us?

The struggle is nothing new…

Eve was built with everything she needed to thrive and fulfill the purpose of God in the world. She was able to communicate with the God of all that is yet in her free will she chose to entertain and listen to the offer and opinion of something outside of herself and God.

I don’t know why we always want the shortcut… the presumed ‘easy way’... the hack…

The story about priest and lady…

YIKES!!! That’s such a powerful example and def something I’ve had to grow in as someone who grew up in a pastor's home and in vocationally ministry for most of my life. There is definitely a time for each of us to extend the love and grace of God to those around us ABSOLUTELY!! But we don’t have to do the work of the holy spirit in someone's life. And it took me a long time to realize that I couldn’t save anyone or draw them to God. This is the role of the Holy Spirit and it’s not my responsibility or ability!

We can trust God to be God's friends.

I often make the statement of God knows us better than we know ourselves. and I think this is such a key thing for me that I continually find myself highlighting because when you really come to believe this in the core of all that you are.

you trust him in a different way.

I mean I would have always said I trusted him but I definitely was saying that purely ‘in faith’ sometimes and I definitely didn’t understand his working in my life at times.

and even though some of that can still be true I still don’t always understand his way …most of the time

what has changed is my understanding that he KNOWS me better than what I perceive to be true about myself or my desires and he is working on my behalf for my GOOD. which doesn’t always appear or feel good.

This is a gift I have found and continue to find in solitude. Myself in God. The real me… me not defined by anything I’ve done or will do externally but my spirit that is known by God.

and it’s been an interesting journey to see a shift in my identity. on the outside, it can appear to those seeing any work of my hands that I offer out in the world that I’ve maybe found a new level of confidence in the last decade.

My reality on this side feels so contrasting to striving and being seen. maybe it’s the scripture my yoke is the easy…

the years of trying to ‘put on’ or ‘find out’ what works or is accepting God everyone …is long gone.

The years and layers of struggle and surrender have been walking me home to where it all started.

God.

God alone

and God inviting me into his story.

I think often about the little girl lying in bed at night falling asleep thinking about the vastness of all that he is.

Life can get a little sidetracked as we learn to ‘walk and talk’ in our humanness.

This learning requires falls and bruises and bloody knees.

And when we can have empathy for ourselves and others as we do for the children in our lives learning to walk and talk it’s a beautiful gift to ourselves and others.

we can become grateful for the scars because without them we wouldn’t be walking where we are in this moment with the voice that is ours for such a time as this.

the scripture from the weekly focus found in Psalm 73 feels like an anthem…

You’re all I want in heaven!

You’re all I want on earth!

When my skin sags and my bones get brittle,

God is rock-firm and faithful.

Look! Those who left you are falling apart!

Deserters, they’ll never be heard from again.

But I’m in the very presence of God—

oh, how refreshing it is!

I’ve made Lord God my home.

God, I’m telling the world what you do!

This is why I show up here in your ears and offer the hope of the transforming power of God that is available to each and every one of us.

Thanks for being here and listening but let’s not be like those who hear and do nothing with it

Spend some time with the one who knows you best today

He loves you

And is for you

And so am I!

The SHE IS Podcast: https://susanbeth.com/thesheispodcast

This week’s focus from the Winter Journal is SOLITUDE.

Solitude can be an intimidating even scary word for some of us. I will admit for many years solitude was definitely not something I ran towards.

What comes to your mind when you hear the word solitude?

Are they words or thoughts that sound inviting to you or dreadful??

I think deep inside each of us we actually crave and long for solitude. It’s woven into the fabric of who we are.

As complicated as the word might feel to us…

Simply put, solitude is where we show with God simply as ourselves

That’s it. Pure and simple.

A sacred space for us and our God

I think solitude has become a foreign and intimidating idea for us because we live in a culture that is addicted to noise.

I talk more about this in this week’s episode that comes out Thursday but I want to keep the Sunday episodes shorter with eyes and hearts on the Weekly focus from the seasonal journal.

Because of the opportunity we all have for constant distractions, we are the ones who have to be intentional about how we want to live.

Are we going to be intentional about creating space for connection with God or are we doing to as I mentioned in the last episode stay on the endless illusion of “one day” one day when things slow down

Scripture pretty much gives us the instruction on this idea of “one day”

And says to us…Choose today who you are going to surrender your life to..(my paraphrase ;)

I’ve lived and still am so believe me I get that it’s a daily practice of getting comfortable with BEING instead of DOING.

And I honestly don’t know how you do it without this special gift of Solitude.

This sacred space is where our spirit and God’s spirit dwell together. A space where we not only come to experience and know God on a deeper level but know ourselves on a deeper level as well.

Our true selves. Not the doing self that was only comfortable and worthy when doing something but the self that experienced perfect love in being who our God created and uniquely designed us to be.

Solitude is an invitation to stop all the doing and just be…

Be in God’s presence

Being still and knowing he is God.

I pray you say yes

Happy new week friend!

The SHE IS Podcast: https://susanbeth.com/thesheispodcast

Here we are halfway through the first month of the new year.

For a long time movement and moving forward has been applauded in Western Culture. Bigger faster better has been a common goal for many. But for many, the tide is shifting. The lure of bigger faster better is being replaced with deeper, slower, and purer.

We have seen evidence over and over again that bigger isn’t always better.

Often in our mindset shifting around something we can swing to the other extreme and pick which side we are on. Are we team hustle and achievement or team minimalist and chill?

Personally, I’m a both and girl. I’ve def always been passionate about the things I care deeply about which leads me to action but through the years I’ve grown and I’m continuing to grow in confident action that comes from surrendered stillness.

That’s me… and I know we are all wired differently so how you live might and should look like you.

Even you getting still… The outflow of our connection and relationship with God will look different. As well as how the connection takes place. The important thing is that you and I do connect with our Creator.

I would love to invite you today to let go of any preconceived ideas you have about what that should look like. And I know that’s hard because you can’t unload years of programming in an instant. But I would love for you to just open your heart and mind to the possibility that there might be ways God wants to connect and speak to you that you have yet to discover.

God is God and can and does speak to us however and whenever he chooses. We get a glimpse of a multitude of ways as we read through scripture. We see God speak through dreams and burning bushes... evidence that he will meet us where we are.

In each and every season of our lives. God is at work in and around us.

I think in some seasons we put God on hold. I mean we might not come right out and say that but our actions say that. We might be in a busy season so we keep running full steam ahead thinking one day… when things slow down I’ll spend more time with God. Or we might be in a really hard demanding season that is sucking the life out of us and we feel depleted and don’t feel like we have the energy for relationships… including God so we think of a future season where we envision easier days to be more intentionally in our relationship with God.

I get it. Life can keep us feeling like we are on an endless loop, and we can fall for the lie that we don’t have time now and the illusion of “one day”

So how do you get still when nothing is still around you?

Different seasons demand different things from us. AND different seasons gift different graces to us.

I can remember being at home all day with young children and my soul desperately longing for connection with God and another adult ha! And I would experience many moments of frustration trying to navigate what I felt I desired and how to make that work. I finally realized life had changed for me and I was in a different season so things that had previously worked probably weren’t going to work in the same way and would probably look different.

When I quit trying to force something to look like it had looked in previous years, maybe I wouldn’t have long stretches to read or talk in person with a friend over coffee. But I could grab moments all throughout the day to fill my spirit and soul with what I was longing for.

I had to let go of the idea that spending time with God had to look a certain way. That the spirit of God could speak to me as powerfully while I’m working through a sink full of dishes as he could at a church altar.

Don’t allow your circumstances to lie to you and convince you that God can’t meet you right where you are.

Maybe you are in a season that is demanding work-wise, and you don’t feel like you have much to give at the end of your day. Don’t wait to have time. Take the time. For most of us… time will never come to us. There is always something offering to fill our time. This is why we must be intentional about taking time to connect with God. whenever and however this. The when and how is the least important fact or detail…the most important is the interaction and connection that takes place.

God is God of the seasons and will meet you in the moments each of you are walking through.

My heart is so passionate about encouraging you to be intentional about connecting with your Creator because he created you for connection. He created you for relationship… not confined to special times during the year or special service times but all throughout the moments of your day.

However…and wherever….

I’m passionate about it because I’ve experienced the life-giving transformation that comes out of being intentional about connecting with God. and I feel like we overcomplicate things.

Even with what I share with you guys about practices and rhythms that have been so life-giving to me personally. The bottom line is I want to encourage you to connect… talking and listening to God speak to YOU.

I’ve mentioned that in the past few years, I’ve found myself intentionally walking into the new year slower and more reflective. Reflective in the sense that instead of setting new goals reflecting on how God is leading me and asking for clarity and confirmation.

And here’s the thing you guys….this relationship with God that we have been invited to isn’t one-sided! We talk to him and he talks to us…in many different ways.

Just this past week I was overwhelmed by how clearly God has been and is directing my steps by speaking in several different ways to my spirit.

Confirming, convicting, and challenging me all at the same time as only God can do.

Ask and expect to receive…it might not come like you were expecting but keep expecting

So as we are at the start of a fresh new calendar year in all of your planning and scheduling … don’t pack your schedule so full that you can’t breathe or receive the fresh breath of God in your life.

He will show up and meet you in and out of every season… let’s keep our hearts open to be aware of and receive all that he has for us.

Happy New Week friend. This week's focus from the Winter Seasonal Journal is called DARKNESS.

With this focus title alone I know many of you are counting down the weeks until Spring HA!

But here I am showing up inviting you to be present in the season you are in. I ran in a store yesterday and I don’t know why I should be used to it but I genuinely am surprised when I find myself surrounded by seasons and celebrations months away.

And it reminded me, that one of the reasons it’s so hard to remain and stay present and be content in a season is because everything around us is trying to pull us ahead to what’s next.

So thanks for being here. Thanks for choosing to be intentional about your days and the way you desire to live the life God your creator created you to live.

I mentioned early on when talking about the journal this season that I am well aware the darker color scheme and the weekly focus themes aren’t necessarily inviting to many of you. I joked about how my melancholy personality always loved watching sad movies just to cry my eyes out. Yet I will admit even though I love a good cry I’m no different than you in that I would never willingly choose a hard season to walk through.

My hope is that this week's focus will help reframe the darkness we all navigate when walking through a winter season of life. Because no matter if we would choose it or not…we are going to experience them.

We tend to associate darkness with evil and fear, yet the truth is, deep and sometimes beautiful things happen in the dark.

I can remember as a child laying in bed in the dark and hating the silence the darkness seemed to amplify. I think I’ve mentioned before how even years later when I was much older sharing a room with my younger sister and I would leave our bedroom door open so the light could peek in and she would get up and close it so it would be totally dark and I would get back up and open it and this would continue until one of us eventually gave in or fell asleep. Ha!

I love how the message version reads from Psalm 139 verses 8-12

I love this passage so much! I have found this to be so true. That there is nowhere I can be that God is not there. And I have found that in the dark moments of my life, his light shines brighter. And the intensity of the brightness is perfect. You know how sometimes you walk in a room and the light is so harsh you find yourself squinting or when you grab your phone in the middle of the night and the glare of the screen (which is horrible for us) feels blinding… this is not the love and light we receive from God whose light and love is always perfect towards us. He knows when we are sitting (or laid out) in the darkness that a spotlight or high-intensity beam of light is not what we need. The comfort of the soft glow of a candle is more than what is needed… a light flicker of light is almost hard for our soul to take in those moments. In time our eyes (and soul) adjust and we are able to take in and receive more light.

I’ve found the light revealed and seen in the dark is even more radiant because it’s not competing with anything else in our vision.

Here are a few prompts to pray, process, and journal about…

Are you afraid of the dark?

Does sitting in silence settle you or make you anxious?

Do you find it hard to believe that you are truly never alone?

The darkness will try to convince you and I that we are alone and that no one sees us.

But if you remember anything from this week's focus may it be that you are never alone, beautiful one… even in the dark.

Hey Hey, thanks for being here. I mean that from my heart. I never want to take for granted you being here. It’s truly a gift in my life so I continue to be sincerely grateful that you continue to show up here each week. I wanted to catch you up on a few things… The start of a new year has brought some changes for the podcast. Firstly, we’ve decided to make a change to the podcast name. Depending on what platform you listen on you might have noticed that instead of saying the She Is Podcast with Susan Beth it just says the Susan Beth Podcast. Apple typically takes a while to update and last time I checked it was still showing the previous title cover. But it had been brought to my attention that my calling the podcast SHE IS could be limiting to men who have tuned in and enjoyed the podcast and to those who wouldn’t ever listen because of the name of the podcast and assume it only applies to women. Obviously, I'm going to speak and attract more of who I am but I listen to as many men as I do women and I know I’m going to want to include men as well as women as guests on the show as well. I will continue using She Is as I have been for almost a decade for many of the other products and projects. And we’ll see how the podcast name change feels and either stay with it …or change it back 😀

Secondly, we will start back with our monthly conversation with a quest next month as I wanted to use these next few weeks to process the start of a new calendar year together as we walk through Winter.

I was having a conversation with my husband Ron a few days ago and we were talking about pivots in life and I so much related to what he was sharing and how much freedom I found when I realized there would be layers of iteration as I put my hands to what is in my heart. Even though I’ve always been open to change and moving towards new things there was still a twinge of how the change would be received by others. Would they love or hate the change… would they perceive the change of direction as a failure? And after hearing a few people talk about this concept of iteration years ago I could see clearly that’s what was happening in my life and that it was part of the process. And for me not to continually tweak and make changes would keep me stuck and not only would I be stuck but I would be stuck inside something that didn’t fit anymore.

And I’ve talked about this before but sometimes you don’t even know what fits or doesn’t until you try it. I mean how many of you have seen a particular style of clothing or even a hairstyle that you love and you try it and you’re like NOPE not me… but you had to try it on to get that information and come to that realization.

I mentioned to Ron in that same conversation how looking back on different things I’ve done Podcasting would not be the thing that I would have thought I would still be doing all these years later. I only started recording short audios for a membership community I had started years ago. Over time I realized without a team to help with all the tech involved with not only creating the content but transferring it to a platform which almost a decade ago was a lot more difficult than it is today. Was stifling the natural flow of creativity as I was spending a lot of time figuring systems out and recruiting help from others in between their work responsibilities.

But through creating the membership I realized the parts of it that were important to me that felt important to continue to put my hand to and time into.

and I will admit it would have been easy for me to have continued with the membership in many ways but I’ve learned as much as it is about stepping out and trying it’s also a balance of not holding on to what is not for you.

A lot of the energy around heading into a new year is found in goal setting and taking on new challenges to check off. Which isn’t necessarily the spirit we find in a Winter season. A winter season invites us to slower, more reflective moments. The stillness of Winter is an invitation to be still with God and with ourselves.

I found myself writing these 3 words at the end of my journal page the other morning…PRESENCE< POWER < PURPOSE

We have oftentimes mistakenly equated being still with being unproductive

When I have discovered along the way in my journey that the more I am aware of and living in the presence of God throughout the moments of my day.

The more I am strengthened and infused by the very spirit whose idea my life was in the first place. And that power provides clarity to my purpose.

In our humanity, we can struggle with achievement and the need for more when oftentimes the pureness of purpose is crushed and buried underneath the rubble of “more”

There is a thought in one of the weekly focuses in the Winter Journal that says Winter is a mysterious mix of solitude and wonder.

And wow how I have found that to be true.

The more moments I’m aware of God’s presence the more I discover and in turn the more I discover about myself and wonder is a powerful word to describe the experience.

Presence power purpose

The less I “do” the more I do…

May I suggest as we are at the start of a new year:

To be slow in adding things on

And in picking things up.

Everything you did last year isn’t intended to be carried into a new year.

Doesn’t mean they are bad and didn’t add to your life

But life is seasons.

And seasons change

So let’s not hold onto things that were beautiful and good in a previous season

But are not going to be life-giving and thrive in the season we are in.

One of the most beautiful things I have seen as I have gotten older is that I am not going to miss what God has for me. He is more faithful than I ever believed he could be and his Love and beauty continue to chase after me…every day of my life

And our God is no respecter of persons

So it’s the same for you, friend.

Stay close, and keep following where he leads

He is for you and he is forever faithful>

Happy 1st Sunday of 2024 friend! I hope you have been easing back into whatever normal life looks like for you this past week. And if you're still “easing” that’s perfectly fine too.

The weekly focus from the Winter Journal that we are going looking at this week is called “when it all falls away”

This focus isn’t completely new to this season as allowing things to fall away in our lives was a foundational focus as we walked through the season of Autumn.

But the twist is a little different as we process the reality of what this means as we walk through a Winter season.

The falling away of things in our life can look different for each of us. For some, the falling away has been relational. For some, it has been vocations that involved where you lived life. Each of us has walked and maybe even currently walking through change and loss.

As much as we would love to avoid this process it is part of living in this world.

The natural falling away process in an Autumn season of our lives can leave us feeling vulnerable and uncovered as we enter a Winter season.

And that vulnerability may cause us to feel hidden in plain sight. Meaning we have experienced change. Some of that change is obvious the majority not so much. So we can stand in a crowded room full of people who assume to know us well and not truly be seen.

And in a Winter season that is ok and to be expected. Winters are a sacred time to go deep into healing. An invitation to being securely seen. Held and healed.

I love these words found in Psalm 34:18 “If your heart is broken you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.”

There are moments when everything around you has fallen away. And the sting of winter is cold. That words and opinions of those around you as well intentioned as they might be cannot heal your heart.

Those around us can be a help and blessing but they can’t ultimately help us catch our breath because they aren’t the one that is the originator of our breath.

That’s the hidden beauty of a winter season…the life-giving breath breathed into us by God as we allow him to cover and shield us from the brutality of the season.

I would love to remind you today that you aren’t defined by a Winter season. We are refined.

When we are kicked in the gut or everything has fallen away it isn’t the end….it’s the beginning of another layer in our lives.

Have a beautiful week friend.

Happy New Year. It’s our first episode in the new year and I’m so grateful you are here.

A few months ago I did an episode talking about some things we could be intentional about as we headed into a season filled with extra activities and celebrations. Lots of expectations and traditions wrapped up in the middle of it all and it can be a lot. I’m pretty sure the intention I started out with in that episode was expectations and emphasized the importance of holding our expectations loosely. Keeping our focus on what really matters and being flexible with everything else.

Have I ( as I’m sure many of you have as well) had the opportunity to stand in this intention and choice? I was getting ready to give some specific plans that got changed but then realized I didn’t know that there wasn’t anything that didn’t get changed in the past 6 weeks or so.

And yet because I continued to surrender my expectations and plans God’s peace surrounded my heart and mind. I saw God’s hand bring comfort healing and laughter in walking through unexpected changes of plans and extended ICU stays of close family members.

Another reminder is that the highlights on social don’t always convey the whole story. It’s not being fake or trying to hide anything. Sometimes posts or podcast episodes are made and then things change and sometimes you hold close the photos of those you love in hospital gowns and feel protective of sharing in-the-moment details to anyone and everyone who follows you.

Hopefully, today that family member is leaving the lengthy ICU stay and heading to a rehabilitation center where the supernatural healing will continue.

Plans can be canceled and plans can be rescheduled. And love and faithfulness can be walked out through it all.

I had several thoughts in my mind the last week as we were walking out of a calendar year and into a new one.

And the past few years I have noticed how differently I move into a new year. I still feel the excitement of welcoming a new year … but I don’t feel the pressure or urge to goal set and plan. And again I love those things. But I find myself not hurrying to take down the Christmas decorations and I’m finding so much joy in lingering in season.

So even though I have seen this change and recognized it in me it wasn’t until the end of this year that I think I know what shifted the experience for me.

I’ll share more about that in a minute but I first wanted to share an experience I had the morning of the last day of the year.

You know I love seeing the sunrise in the morning. And this is something I do most mornings. And maybe once a week or so I will go to a favorite spot to take it in. I especially like to do this on special days. I typically drive out to the beach on my birthday. Even though I’m not what they would call a beach bum and don’t go that often to the beach during the day. I was born in July in South Florida and so something about watching the sunrise at the beach with my feet in the sand feels right to me. And I’m not driving to Miami where I was born for those of you listening who don’t know I live in North Florida and get to beach access within 20 minutes. So that’s handy HA!

So a few days ago instead of walking outside of my house or down the street, I decided I would go to one of my favorite spots Which happens to overlook the St Johns River that runs through our city to watch the sun rise on the last day of the year.

Watching the sunrise has become something I absolutely love and long for these days

This is why something I noticed within me surprised me and caused me to ask myself some questions…

You might already know this but it’s something I wasn’t aware of until I started walking or watching the sunrise. The sky appears lighter as it is rising but it is still some time before you can actually witness the light breaking through and fully appearing. I mean I”m sure I learned that at some point but yet another thing I didn’t retain ;)

The reason I’m explaining this is because I will walk while I’m waiting and the sky is getting brighter as time passes. So on this particular morning, I had walked for a while and still didn’t see the sun bursting through across the water. So I walked some more… and then I sat down on a bench.

I was looking out across the water and I found myself standing up thinking I would just leave and drive by to the house. But then I was thinking you haven’t seen the sun come up yet…be patient…just wait..

I went through this cycle of thoughts several more times. And finally, I said to myself (in my brain not out loud) why are you in such a rush to leave??? What do you need to do right now in this moment when you get back to the house?? And the answer was there was nothing that needed to be taken care of or immediately done.

Now you might be thinking that I need some help hahaha but I found it fascinating that I who couldn’t wait to witness the sunrise… Talks endlessly about getting still to connect with God had no reason to get in my car and leave with minutes of witnessing a gorgeous visual display of God’s hand

WHY??? Why was I resisting being still?

Why was every cell in my body wanting to keep me moving to the next??

Why was my mind fighting settling into the present moment and just being

Why??

I kept asking myself and God that question…

I sat back down on the bench and basically was telling my mind and body that “you’re not the boss of me” and I remember very intentionally sitting up straight and straightening my back.

And choosing to be present in that moment.

(wasn’t feeling all spiritual!)

I looked out across the water and moved my gaze across the sky purposefully taking in the vastness of the view

( still not feeling all spiritual ;)

And SAID OUTLOUD

“God you are so much bigger than I thought you were…

Be BIG in my life”

And I heard my voice crack as I said that last line.

And I felt God's presence in that moment.

The statement of me saying God you are so much bigger than I thought you were was me declaring that in response to what I was visibly taking in with my eyes as well as recognizing how much bigger God had become in my mind and life the last several years. And even though I’ve always believed God to be big. He’s so much more …kind of like the vastness of the water and sky before me…not seeing where either of them ends…

There’s always more…

So I thought about that declaration and prayer and I said it out loud

And then the next thing I said felt more like it rose up out of me

And felt sacred and holy

And probably why my voice cracked as I heard myself say it...

Be BIG in my life.

I’m glad I stayed

I’m glad I made myself linger

The sun rose before me

And it was beautiful

And I was full as I got in my car to drive home and write in my journal the words I just said to you.

“God you are so much bigger than I thought you were…

Be BIG in my life”

I told you at the start of this episode that I had some thoughts on why I think I experience the start of a new year differently now.

I think it's because I am intentionally walking through each season and day differently.

I’m not standing at the end of a calendar year looking back over a year's worth of moments and memories and trying to process meaningful moments and lessons learned.

And I’m not saying that’s wrong if that’s where you find yourself at the start of this new year and it’s working for you.

And I do love the role holidays and special times of the year offer us invitations to reflect and remember. I wholeheartedly engage in these celebrations but they are a supplement and addon to the seasonal rhythm of my everyday life.

Our desire and longing for connection with our creator goes beyond any particular season and can’t be confined to a particular day or designated time.

I’m prayerfully processing and reflecting throughout the year. Am I doing that perfectly? No, and perfect is not the goal. Connection and transformation are. And I have a role in that but I am not the originator.

We each long for God our creator because he first longed for us.

We were made to worship God and image him with all that we are.

That reflection and image might look different in different seasons

Maybe that’s because you are reflecting on who you are experiencing him to be in your life in a particular season.

He’s so much bigger than our minds can take in and comprehend.

He is so much bigger than we can ever imagine friend

And he wants to be big in your life.

I would love to invite you to walk through this season with the winter season journal. The stillness of Winter is an invitation to be still with God AND with ourselves.

God invited us into his story. Invited us to co-create with him and image who he is by who he created and built us to be. He’s not scared of our humanity but he does want to be God in our lives.

To me, it’s the example of sunrise a few mornings ago…

It’s us choosing to intentionally

Live fully in the moment we are in

Allowing God to meet us right where we are

And be big in our lives.

I would love to remind you a few days into this new year...

That you are not behind.

On resolutions, on goals for a new year …anything…

You are here in this moment

Not yesterday and not tomorrow

This moment

Be still

Be willing to stay

And allow your God to meet you in this moment right where you are.

It’s the last Sunday of the year.

“Welcome Winter” is the weekly focus for week 2 in the Winter Journal.

This week has us simultaneously saying goodbye to a calendar year and saying hello to a new year.

For some of you, you have been eager to close the door on 2023 and are excited about the fresh perspective and start that welcoming a new year brings to our lives.

The season of Winter is a mysterious mix of Solitude and Wonder.

The darkness and chill of a winter day can cause us to question and doubt God’s faithfulness and goodness. Yet these words found in Psalm 23:6 are a beautiful reminder that no matter how dark and alone we might feel “God’s beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.”

How wonderful is that? No matter how dark things seem no matter the season or circumstances God’s beauty and love pursue us every day of our life.

The stillness of a Winter is an invitation to be still with God and with ourselves. It is in the space of solitude and stillness that we are transformed.

Spiritual transformation is full of mystery. We surrender ourselves to the invitation and say yes to the participation yet it’s something we can’t accomplish for ourselves.

Here are some prompts for you to think, pray, and journal about this week…

What are you expecting this season?

Do you struggle with getting still?

Do you find it difficult to trust God’s faithfulness and goodness?

I’d love to offer up a prayer for us as we head into a new week as well as a new year.

Spirit of God we welcome you into this moment and into this new year and season.

May I have an open heart and hands to surrender my agenda, expectations, and plans in exchange for total trust that your ways are not my ways and surrender and trust in your faithfulness and goodness towards me!

Thank you for pursuing me with your love and may I receive that love in the quiet stillness that winter can bring.

I choose to surrender to the wonder that is to be discovered and developed in me during this season.

We love you and we are looking to you…

always.

Merry Christmas friend.

This Sunday is full… not only is it the first Sunday in walking through the Season of Winter together. But it’s Christmas Eve!

Christmas Eve is my fav. I don’t know if it’s because growing up with most extended family being out of town, we always celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. It’s something I continued with my kids. So yeah I’m looking forward to gathering with my crew around the table tonight and lighting the last Advent candle together. Taking in all the wonder, joy, and peace this season is such a beautiful reminder.

We officially welcomed the winter season a few days ago and I’m looking forward to all that this season will hold for each of us.

The weekly focus in the Seasonal Journal this week is Life is Seasons.

I pray that wherever you find yourself today, whether that be in the midst of a crowded room of people or you are the only person in the room you feel God near.

I love the truth of God with us that is thought about more in this season but it’s a powerful truth and reality that we can live in every day and every moment. We focus on and celebrate our savior's birth during this time and are reminded that through all that his arrival accomplished and provided for us we are never left on our own, we have access to a constant helper comforter, and teacher to lead us and strengthen us.

So I thought it would be good to end this episode with a deep breath and a prayer.

Father, I thank you that you are with us...

Even now in the midst of the busyness, this season can bring to our lives the loneliness and loss it can so brutally remind us of in these moments.

So we choose to stop and take a deep breath and breathe in the love and goodness of all that you are. And exhale any heaviness that is weighing us down during this time.

You never promised we wouldn’t have troubles in this world but you have promised we would never face anything alone.

Thank you for the power and peace of your spirit that even in this moment brings life to weary hearts and minds. Brings peace to worried or anxious thoughts.

We are choosing to look to you as our ever-present guide as we enter this new season before us. You are our God and we place our hope and trust in you.

We love you and we are looking to you always!

Happy First Day of Winter friends!

I know many of you probably won’t be listening to this episode on the official first day of Winter as most are in full Christmas preparations and celebration mode! But whenever things settle down a bit I’m hoping you’ll join me in welcoming this new season that is upon us.

Today's episode I feel might have a different tone to it maybe a little more reflective and I think it’s because I’ve been deep in the season of all things WINTER.

Now I’m well aware that some of you are repelled by the darkness of a winter season and prefer flowery words and thoughts and brighter colors and that’s ok I’ll connect with you in a greater way in a few months as Spring comes back around. Ha! But for all my Enneagram 4s and deep feelers like me who grew up longing to watch sad movies that would make me bawl my eyes out!! You’re going to love walking through this winter season together. And as a heads up if you haven’t already received your winter journal the artwork for the weekly focuses are darker hues…purposefully.

And if that’s not you …I would love to remind you that I've had several of you let me know that you have actually enjoyed your not-so-favorite seasons more this year because of how you chose to intentionally walk through it. And that couldn’t make me any happier to hear!!

Looking back…I was always a reflective person

A deep feeler

That feels like a liability when your feelings appear too much and you are frequently told you are too sensitive

over time I began to try and contain and cram all the thoughts and feelings running strong in my heart and mind

In a similar way, we try to contain and cram our bodies into too small or a tight pair of jeans.

It’s uncomfortable

That process alone is uncomfortable

And sadly it doesn’t end there.

We proceed to live out our day contained and crammed into something we were never meant to fit in or be confined by

We show up uncomfortable in our homes

In our workplaces

In our relationship with our Creator….

We are agitated from the start with everything and everyone because of the discomfort we are walking around inside.

What I can see is clearly now is it wasn’t in the easy seasons of life where I found freedom and growth but it was out of the discomfort of walking through dark winter seasons.

We tend to think if only I wasn’t dealing with this then life would feel easy and good. And one day we realize that Winter is this mysterious mix of solitude and wonder.

The darkness of the season brings an initiation to solitude and stillness. An invitation to being still with God and ourselves.

It takes courage to get still and be seen.

Seen NOT in the way we desire and hope to be seen

But seen and know

FULLY know by the one who knows us better than we know ourselves.

I think there can be a disconnect and struggle within us in our relationship with God if we aren’t honest in looking into how we are showing up and connecting with God.

God is GOD and he is all-knowing YET we aren’t fully experiencing connection with him when we aren’t allowing all of who we are to be seen and loved and strengthened in his presence.

When we show us wearing a mask and trying to appear presentable before God we are holding onto the places and spaces within us that need to be seen and healed.

Real honest connection requires vulnerability and radical honesty with God and with ourselves.

And that can feel scary

We don’t want to go there and feel all the feelings

But God will meet you right there

Where you honestly are

In the midst of all of your fears and insecurities and shame.

And I get that it can feel easier to stay busy and distracted and tell ourselves we don’t have time to stop and get still/

It feels easier and safer to cling to narratives we have created in our hearts and minds around situations, circumstances, and relationships in our lives INSTEAD of getting still and honest and allowing the spirit of God to shine light in the darkness in our souls and over any false narratives that we are clinging to.

When there is healing and wholeness when we are willing to show up and surrender OUR stories/

Winter seasons are a SHOUT to our souls to STOP and surrender when the whispers to get still have been ignored by our busyness and the distractions we choose over the connection with our creator and ourselves.

Which is the foundation of everything that flows out of us and touches everything our life touches.

Only when we are fully present with God and fully present with the truth of who we are we can fully and honestly show up and be present with others.

Jesus said this was the greatest of all the commandments to love God and love others as you love yourself.

This Sunday will be the first Sunday walking through the winter seasonal journal. It’s not too late to grab one if you’ve been thinking about it. You can find ordering info in the show notes.

You obviously don’t need to have one to follow along through the Sunday episodes that will be starting this Sunday. But it’s a nice resource that adds even more focus and intention.

I thought I would share some of the weekly focuses found in this season's journal…

As much as we might not choose the darkness of Winter there is beauty to be found there.

My prayer is that as we surrender our expectations and trust that his ways are not like our ways we will see his hand leading us and upholding us through our every moment.

Happy Sunday friend!

Well, here we are …walking out our last week in Autumn and into Winter.

As I’ve mentioned recently, I’m feeling this transition.

Maybe it’s because it’s the time of year when we’re given lots of opportunities to feel… or maybe it’s just that in-between space that we feel during transitions…

Whatever the reason I’m ready for the new season!

And one of the things about seasons that I love is that even though we are continuously cycling through the different seasons we always experience them differently because we are always changing.

We are moving into the Winter season of 2023/24 and the person you are today is not the person that experienced last Winter.

We lived another full year of life which means we have experienced another year of both beautiful and hard moments and hopefully we are allowing all of our moments to grow us. But our life experiences and what is developed within us change our perspective.

This week's focus is called “preparing for the next season” and it could easily be overlooked as it’s much more exciting to move on to what’s next. But one of the core desires in creating this seasonal journal was to invite us to live more intentionally.

And we can think about living our lives more intentionally and even say we want to live intentionally. And yet if we don’t INTENTIONALLY prepare and take steps towards this desire nothing changes.

We are so bombarded with voices and opinions. And it’s so common to how our culture lives that we are almost unaware of how distracted we live.

At any time we can see images that evoke different emotions and thoughts within us. At any given moment we can hear a talk to a teaching. A bazillion distractions fill our heart and mind easily accessed from the touch of our fingers.

We must be intentional in what is filling our hearts and minds.

As we are walking out of one season and into the next I’m inviting you to take some time to think about ways you can walk through this season more intentionally.

For those of you in the US the season of winter has us closing out a calendar year as well as welcoming a new year. It’s a season that holds a lot for us, in a multitude of ways.

let’s prepare our hearts for all that God wants for us this season.

Obviously, I would love to have you walk through this winter with the WINTER seasonal journal. I know some of you have already ordered yours and I will have ordering info in the show notes for those of you who would like to grab one.

And for those of you who aren’t sure what this journal is, I’ll give a little background and explain. At the start of 2023, I released the first She Is Awakening seasonal journal which was the Spring Volume. And have released one each season since. Journaling and seasons have been a passion of mine for a long time as well as creating abstract art.

The seasonal journal is all of those things meshed together. It comes in a hardcover as well as a softcover version. The journal is laid out with a weekly focus that includes journal prompts that walk you through the 13 weeks of the season. There is artwork and scancodes that are available for only those who have a journal. The journal is an intentional rhythm and practice that has been so life-giving to me that I wanted to invite all of you on the journey as well.

This weekly episode that you are listening to that comes out every Sunday follows along with the seasonal journal. The Thursday podcast episodes cover other topics and conversations with different women.

The She Is Podcast wasn’t started over 8 years ago because of a journal but because of a desire I had and still have to encourage women to live the life they were designed and created for. But I really love that we have this Sunday episode that drops as we are heading into a new week to help us focus and bring some intention on how we want to live our days.

I pray this week is filled with peace and love for you as you intentionally live the days he has purposed for you!

Love you guys!

Today's episode is a conversation I had with Lisa Young and the timing is perfect as we are heading into the winter season here in the US and many of you listening will be walking through the season with the She Is Awakening seasonal journal.

Lisa and I talked about the book she wrote with her husband Ed “A Path Through Pain,” which came out of experiencing the sudden passing of their oldest daughter Lee Beth a few years ago.

The subtitle says How faith deepens and joy grows through what you would never choose. And we talk about that in this conversation and it’s actually the journey through the Winter journal. None of us would choose the hard path of a winter season yet the deepening of our faith as we surrender our season to God is sometimes hard to explain.

Whether or not you find yourself today walking through a hard winter season… we all face them …and even though we wouldn’t choose them we can prepare for them. The winter journal is available this week and you can find the ordering information in the show notes.

I’m excited about you hearing my conversation with Lisa and know it will be helpful and encouraging to so many of you.

Have you ever struggled with loving someone? Maybe it’s someone you work with or maybe it’s someone you live with.

I am pretty sure we can all answer yes to having had this struggle and maybe you’re in the middle of the struggle now.

Another thing I’m pretty sure about is…it feels yucky!!

Sometimes when we are in the moment of aggravation we feel good thinking about how superior we are and how aggravating their personality or way of doing something is to us.

But for most of us …this feeling soon fades to the yucky feeling…

The one we feel when we judge someone else

Or talk about someone or the bottom line

We aren’t being loving.

The reason we feel bad is that we ultimately want to be loving kind and generous. I mean our flesh will fight us every day on this but at the end of the day, we want to love and be loved.

This week's scripture from the weekly focus is 1 John 4:7,8 says

1st line…Let us continue to love each other since love comes from God

If there's a secret for us to be more loving friends here it is…

Love comes from God. so if we are struggling with being loving in our lives

Then maybe we are struggling in our receiving love from God.

When we spend time connecting with God it strengthens our spirits. We experience his never-ending love for us and this patience and goodness towards us even when he has to convict us and course correct in our lives…we feel his love and faithfulness over our lives.

Which when we receive this love we love him more and the overflow is that we can’t help but love others more.

But when we are running around staying too busy and distracted not taking the time to be still we aren’t feeling peaceful. Our minds are frazzled and our nerves are constantly on edge so it doesn't take much for someone to irritate and be on our last nerve.

When you experience love and you feel loved loving others comes a lot easier.

It’s easier for us to appreciate differences in each other. And give grace when others aren’t living up to our expectations.

So in this season where gift-giving is an expression of love may we recognize that we have been given the greatest gift of Love we could ever ask for.

I’ll leave you today with one of the journal prompts from this week's focus

I love you and I”m

I pray you have a beautiful week friend

Today's episode might feel a little different. It’s more of a few things on my heart rather than one particular subject episode.

But it’s that time of the year right?!? We all start feeling pulled in different directions. And the panic of “feeling behind” can hit at any moment but I’m reminding you as I remind myself… we are good. We are going to walk intentionally through this season appreciating the things that matter and letting go of the weight of all the things that ultimately don’t matter.

So maybe this episode is me processing aloud with you ha!

I’m starting to have some feelings about finishing up the last few weeks in the Autumn journal and walking into Winter.

Maybe it’s because it is the final seasonal journal to be released as I released the She is Awakening Spring journal at the beginning of this year then we walked through summer and spring together welcomed Autumn and are getting ready to welcome Winter.

I look back at how the seasonal journal all came together and it feels like such a God thing. It’s been such a labor of love on my end and I have to say it would have never happened if I hadn’t had my husband Ron on this project with me. He’s always been my greatest support and he saw the vision I had and helped me run with it I’m forever grateful for his never-ending love and belief in me.

I touched a little in I believe last Thursday's episode about how it’s been quite the experience for me to share with all of you something that has been such a sacred practice in my life. Even though I’ve talked and shared for years about walking through the different seasons it felt like things moved to another level knowing we were walking through them more “ on the same page” didn’t plan for that to come out worded like that so perfectly haha

I’m really excited for you to have your hands on the winter journal and will be sending out the ordering info for those of you on my email list in the next few days! Eeeek I can't wait!!

I feel like I’m not doing a good job of letting you know about all of the things happening that feel like are happening all at the same time.

The holiday print JOY which many of you have already purchased. And I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. For those that have asked I am still offering last year's print a thrill of hope as well. You can find both of these on my website.

ALONG WITH the winter abstract collection!!

YOu guys!! Some of you had your pieces picked out immediately and they are on the way I cannot wait to see them displayed in your home or offices or wherever you choose. You know I have a thing for abstract black and white so I love them all!! Can I say that?!? Well, I said it and it’s true that I love them all.

The Winter Collection will be available throughout the season so you can grab it as a gift now or to have to decorate after taking down all your holiday decor.

It can feel a little odd for me at times to keep everyone up to date but then I have conversations with someone that has no idea about something and I realize I talked about it once or twice…oops ;)

You think every email is read and every post and image seen and when I think about it I know that’s not the case… I open emails when I can’t fully focus on the info and intend to go back and read and then don’t as if it moves further and further down the email account. Same thing with social media and actually now everyone that follows you doesn’t even see all that you post.

So this is me catching you up hoping you appreciate it haha

In all seriousness, I do want to give you a heads-up on the Winter Journal.

I want you to have one. I want you to have one to move the WInter season intentionally. Eyes and heart wide open to discover all that God has for you in this season.

Don’t use the “I’m not a journaler excuse” you don’t have to be an avid journaler or love to write to get something out of this seasonal journal.

This journal is yours to use as you want. You can read the weekly focuses and ponder on them and never write one word in the journal and you will get something out of it.

From the feedback I continue to get from those of you who have one of the journals, you are finding it to be a life-giving tool for connecting with God and seeing his hand at work in your life.

I hope you’ll treat yourself to the gift of a winter journal this holiday season.

I truly believe it will bless you!

I think that’s it for now...

Let’s walk out these last few weeks of Autumn full of Hope.

He is for you

And he is faithful!!

Love you guys!

Happy New Week friends. I hope you are doing well. You might notice my voice sounds a little different as I have been fighting something the past several days and at times barely have a voice to speak. So hopefully it will hold up for me to get this recorded.

It’s our first Sunday episode in December and in a few short weeks, we will be officially welcoming the WINTER season.

But we still have a few weeks left in Autumn to walk out and the weekly focus from the Autumn Journal is JOY.

I shared this past week this year's Holiday art print which just so happens to be called JOY. with the words

“Joy that isn’t defined by circumstances or a special moment but joy that is rising from a deep well of Perfect Love.”

Many of you responded on how those words resonated with you.

Some of you I know your stories others I don’t but I do know that for all of us… we come to the realization at some point that true joy can’t be sustained by the circumstances of our lives. But when the perfect love of the one who holds our stories and upholds us through every season flows within us we experience supernatural joy.

I like to say it this way…

Joy is God-inspired happiness.

Read John 10:10

Real joy is found in the goodness of God which gives us strength to walk and stand in joy no matter the circumstance.

I’m praying we walk in that joy this week as we trust in his goodness and strength.

Have a joyous week!

I don’t know why it might hit me funny sometimes when I reach to use a journal that I created… it’s interesting.

Reaching for the empty pages to pray and process is nothing new for me nor reading words to focus my mind and strengthen my spirit. Maybe it’s knowing that some of you are reaching for these same pages too.

I’ve noticed these feelings come up when I’m reaching for it not out of daily practice or rhythm, but out of longing and need.

Again I don’t know why that should be odd when they say you create and teach what you need.

It happened again this week…as I found myself over the hump of non-stop days of focused prep and work that needed to be done one of those things was preparing for our family Thanksgiving gathering.

You know those times when several things run together and you just put your head down and keep moving through things knowing you will come to the end and you will be able to take a deep exhale breath.

So the final day before the deep exhale was a pretty big thing. Something that had been planned for a while and something I had done the work to prepare and at the end of the day, I realized there had been a tech issue and nothing had been saved.

I could feel my brain refusing to take in the reality as I tried to distract myself. When I would start to take it in I literally felt like I was going to throw up.

The rest of the evening my mind was bombarded with thoughts of why and how did this happen. I knew it was pointless to dwell on it and being frustrated about it wasn’t going to change anything.

I knew I was just tired but I definitely was fighting feeling sorry for myself after working and preparing to feel like it was all for nothing.

When I woke up the next morning I went outside to watch the sun coming up and when I walked back into the house I knew I needed to focus my heart and head and found myself reaching for my autumn journal.

I opened up to the weekly focus which I remembered was Peace, and had the thought, that it was just what I needed.

I reread the words I had written many months before and allowed them to pour over my frustrated heart and emotions. I think I actually re-read the page several times just wanting to sit in scripture Philippians 4: from the message saying “don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.

Seemed like a good time to shape some worries into prayers…

As I picked up my pen I started writing the word peace and then the words even when

Peace, even when things don’t go as planned,

Peace, even when I am disappointed

Peace, even when I make mistakes

Peace, even when I don’t understand

In no time I had filled the page with these declarations while simultaneously peace was filling my heart and mind.

Nothing about my circumstances had changed…but I had.

I had allowed into my spirit peace that passes over and supersedes my human understanding.

Peace that had settled my emotions to be able to move forward with determining the next course of action I needed to take in finishing the project.

I felt like I wanted to share this because I think it’s something we all face… quite frequently.

And I’m pretty sure I know the thoughts like me that you are fighting in these times because for one the enemy of our souls isn’t real original in how he messes with us. The battlefield is our mind. And the war is replacing the lies that are flooding our minds like “this always happens, nothing ever works out for you, why do you keep trying?” what’s the point anyway?!” LIES lies that WE must take captive and replace with truth.

No one is going to do this for you. You are the one who has to rise up and take authority over what you are going to allow in your thoughts and what you are going to choose to believe.

As frustrating as a tech problem is I realize it’s not the end of the world and many of you listening are feeling anxious and your disappointment is far greater than having to reschedule and redo a project.

Here’s what I want to remind you…

Peace is here for you

Ready for you to receive

But you have to choose to lay down what you’re carrying and receive it

And you might have to lay down and choose to receive every hour to remain in peace.

Do it.

Whatever it takes

Do not allow the enemy to steal the peace that is yours.

I hope that helped someone …

You are so loved, friend.

Peace to you

And we’ll talk soon!

Happy new week! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving day, and weekend…

Here we are closing out the final week in November. I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to December and moving into the Winter season. Maybe it’s because we’ve had some chilly days and I've pulled out my sweaters that’s got me in the mood. Whatever it is I'm excited!

This week's focus in the seasonal journal is PEACE.

One of the prompts to think about as we move through this time is actually asking the question if you struggle with receiving peace in your life.

We all walk through seasons of change and uncertainty and maybe that’s where you find yourself today as you are listening to this podcast episode. And seasons that are filled with uncertainty can CERTAINLY challenge our peace. It can feel very unsettling when life is shifting around us or we experience a loss in our lives. Life around us keeps moving ahead as if everything is normal and we can feel like we are walking around holding it together. But there comes a point when we don’t have the ability to hold it together. It’s easy in these moments to look to something to numb the pain we are experiencing in the hopes of experiencing some kind of relief and peace. Some turn to alcohol or food or escape through binging on something on a device like shows or endless scrolling on social media…

These things can distract us for a while but at the end of the day, we want to live healthy and whole.

I love how Philippians chapter 4 from the message reads…

6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

There are moments when praying instead of worrying is so hard. You don’t have the desire or the energy to shape your worries into prayers. And talk to God about what is heavy on your heart.

But I want to encourage you if this is you to do it even when you don’t feel like it. And I’m not going to promise you that it will be instantaneously (even though it can be) but at some point, you will sense God breathing fresh life into you and hope that he is working all things for your good and your nervous system will settle down.

And it’s hard to explain that haven't experienced this peace that passes our human understanding …

Because it’s not something we can manufacture our positive think our way into

It’s the presence of God manifested perfect peace in our spirits.

True peace is available no matter what is happening around you.

That is my hope and prayer for us as we close this month. We will get still and honest about any area we are not walking or living in peace. Areas where we are still expending mental and emotional energy trying to figure things out and it’s exhausting and it’s not getting you the peace you are so desperate for.

So I want to leave you with the final journal prompt for this week.

How can you be more intentional about shaping your worries into prayers?

I pray you have a beautiful week trusting him with everything you aren’t meant to carry.

Love you guys. Talk soon!

I see you if when you hear the word home and the family table it doesn’t bring back any warm fuzzy feelings for you…

Home wasn’t a place you felt safe or seen…

And for that I am sorry.

I’m sorry because I know that has shaped your life and your thoughts around family and belonging. And I hope you have or are moving towards healing in your life.

How can living a life of prayer enable us to live a life of thankfulness?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says

Let joy be your continual feast. Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.

We can read this scripture and acknowledge that is a beautiful thought especially when life is feeling pretty chill. We can read this and feel all warm inside and give a big amen.

But what about the days when life doesn’t feel so chill? And warm and cozy is far from any feeling we are experiencing.

Let’s take a closer look…

Happy new week friend. How are you?? We welcomed a new month this week and we are pretty much in the middle of this season. And our weather here matched up with the fall season this week even though it looks like it’s warming back up this week. But here in North Florida we just have to enjoy cooler temps when we can. HA!

The weekly focus for this week is Thankfulness.

You don’t have to look very far for the evidence that we are in the season of Thankfulness. Actually, I just had the thought as I said that, that you might actually have to do some digging as we are at the start of November, and Thanksgiving and Fall stuff has already been replaced with Christmas decor at many stores Just so you know this is a pet peeve of mine. I” 'm well aware that many of you are not like me and you like being ahead of the season and nailing down your fall decor scheme in the middle of Summer but my brain does not function like that so when I’m looking for the fall stuff and it’s already sold out and replace with Christmas stuff by the end of October that doesn’t make sense to me. But I digress …back to focusing on Thankfulness. Ha! And I’ll be thankful for what I can find haha

The point is fall is the season for all the decor and plates and dishtowels and cups displaying declarations of being thankful. And as commercialized as most seasons have become in our culture. I do want to be intentional about celebrating and entering into a special time of thanksgiving.

I love how Psalm 100:4 reads in the Message

“ Enter with the password “Thank you!”

Make yourselves at home. Talking praise.”

I love that!

Enter with the password thank you! Having a spirit of thankfulness opens our hearts to recognize and see all that we have to be thankful for in our lives.

Living in thankfulness can feel challenging when you find yourself walking through an Autumn season in your life. Our first instinct when things are falling away in our lives typically isn’t to say thank you!

So here’s a question in this week's focus from the Autumn Journal that I want to invite you to think about…

What are you afraid of losing that you need to exchange with ‘Thank you”?

Who we are in the spring and summer seasons of our life is an overflow of what has been cultivated in the secret spaces of an Autumn season.

The one who holds all of our seasons in his hand never wastes a moment in working all things for good and forming our lives to reflect and image him in a deeper and more beautiful way.

I'm thankful for you and pray you have a beautiful week friend.

11 Things to be intentional about in November

Happy November! I’m so glad you are here. If you’re moving through the seasonal journal with the calendar weeks of Autumn. Then you know we Started week 6 and you might have like me, had the realization that we are almost halfway through the season of Autumn!!

So I thought it would be fun to kick off the Month of November by setting some intention. and since it’s the 11th month of the year I thought I’d throw out 11 ideas that maybe you’d like to be intentional about as well as we move through this next month.

1) Your expectations. I’ve mentioned before how expectations were something I realized years ago and were really something I needed to adjust my thinking on.

2) take care of yourself, make healthy choices, and move your body

3) being present

4) breathing

5) pray

6) Do something that you’ve thought about starting the start of a new year

7) taking tech breaks

8) about living your life and not living in comparison to others

9) seeing those around you

10) say the thing

11) being thankful

Even though change is often needed and a necessary part of life it isn’t always an easy process.

There is a comfort we experience with the familiar. We fight to hang on to life choices and circumstances… even when the season has run its course because it’s what we know.

I think many of us can relate to a relationship ending that we knew needed to end and yet we found ourselves reaching back out because we were in that unfamiliar space of in-between and it can feel uncomfortable. And the crazy thing is we felt discomfort in the relationship and that’s why it ended but we were comfortable with that discomfort. And the in-between space of not knowing what’s next can cause us to reach back and try and hang on to something that doesn't belong in our future season.

One of the journal prompts for this week asks the question “What are you clinging to out of comfort and familiarity?

I want to invite you to take some time to think about and pray about this question. Ask God to bring to your mind anything you are holding on to that is no longer meant for you.

This doesn’t mean that what is no longer meant for you is something bad. It could be something that has brought you great joy. But for whatever reason the season has run its course and is keeping you from having room for what’s next.

Oftentimes we can equate letting go, or something no longer being part of our life, as a negative thing and that’s just not always the case. But when we frame it that way in our mind then it causes us to feel resistance because our feelings around letting go are negative and we view it as a loss.

So what if we intentionally have a reframe and step into the belief that change is part of the natural cycle of life? And that when things naturally fall away it opens up space physically as well as emotionally, spiritually, and energetically.

Just like clutter around our house and in our vehicles drains us even when we are unaware that is because our senses are taking it in every time we see all the “stuff” taking up space. So just as we can clear up some of that in our physical spaces and feel lighter it’s the same way in all the other areas of our life.

Everything we take in and allow to take up space in our lives is affecting how we live. We are being weighed down by things that we are not called to carry.

So take some time to ask yourself the question. “What am I clinging to out of comfort and familiarity? They keep your heart and mind open and expect the spirit of God to speak to you.

The season of Autumn is a powerful reminder that there is beauty in letting things fall away. Trusting that “the letting” go opens up our hearts and hands for new growth.

I can remember sitting at a coffee shop with someone and her talking to me about me singing and leading worship which I had done most of my life. And I said out loud something I had felt in my heart for a long time… I had a fear of really letting go of control and leading in worship in a greater way because I was afraid of where it might take me.

The season of Fall is layered with lovely texture and colorful leaves.

And even though at times the change might appear to have happened suddenly the reality is that what is now becoming visible to our eyes has been happening for a while.

I remember several years ago when I entered a new season of spending more time creating art I had many people in my life ask me “Where did this come from”?! And it wasn’t just a question in passing a lot of times…it was someone looking me dead in the eye waiting for an answer…so it got me thinking about this question… I mean I could see why many were asking…creating art in a few different ways was definitely where a lot of my energy was going. And I do think in the world we live in with social media when we share our life online people have a glimpse of things that in the past unless you did life on a daily weekly basis …they had no clue.

So as I looked back at my life I could see creativity sprinkled all through it. Did it look exactly like what I was putting my hand to in this season? No, but I could see that creativity looked different in almost every season and layer of my life. I could see that when my children were younger and my days were filled with feeding children and homeschooling my creativity was in full force around my everyday life. As a family, we lived out the seasons of life creatively. Sometimes it felt like creativity in the midst of complete chaos, but I think we are all hard-wired divinely from our creator with the desire and gifts that wherever we find ourselves we are designed and gifted to bring order and beauty in the midst of chaos.

I mentioned how I could see how creativity looked different in different seasons and looking back I could see that it was life inviting me into another layer of learning and living. My circumstances in my family or my work in the church offered me new experiences to learn and grow. And as is the case for most of us…we are so caught up in the moment of the season we are in that oftentimes we aren’t even aware of all that the layer is holding for us. It’s sometimes only in looking back that we see how we were being formed layer by layer.

And it’s in the looking back for me I become well aware that God has always been faithfully answering the true desires of my heart. I see that what I sometimes thought was part of the plan actually wasn’t or it was for a season.

It was a layer.

A layer to be built on.

A layer to stand on and continuing building on

The thing about layers is that sometimes we think a particular layer is our life forever…

Or we can believe a layer in our past was the best ever and life is all downhill from here.

Why would we ever believe that lie?!

It reminds me of how when you have a break up with someone you’ve been in a relationship with and you’re in that in-between time of feeling the loss and not fully moved on and experiencing the next…

So you text or reach back out (knowing it needed to end)

But all you are focused on and remembering are all the good times.

The beautiful moments

The special memories.

Let’s not do that with the layers in our lives.

Let’s be people who remember to honor and celebrate

But also let's be people of hope

That believe and trust a God

That grows us from glory to glory

And invites us to an abundant life.

The layers of life are a delicate ebb and flow of dying and rebirth and growth.

Layers of letting go and growing.

I’ll end with a thought from the Autumn journal

The layers of life

Layers of dying and rebirth

A falling away + a growing

Woven together into our journey

The layers of life

Hi you! Thanks for being here!

I asked a question in my Instagram stories this week after sharing a quote from the Autumn Journal which said

“Like autumn leaves changing around me

May I stop resisting change

Allowing a miraculous transformation

Bringing forth brilliant beauty.”

and the question I asked was “Do you tend to surrender or resist change in your life?

And overwhelmingly the answer was that most of us tend to resist change

Why is that???

What are we so afraid of what’s on the other side of change?

I really think it’s the uncertainty of not knowing what to expect because there is usually beauty on the other side even in the midst of hard.

And if we’re honest there’s hard on the front side of change.

But somehow we are comfortable with the hard we are familiar with.

That’s what’s so interesting …I’m not even talking about change we might not want…I’m talking about any kind of change.

What is it that for so many of us in our humanity rises up and resists change?

Resistance is a real thing.

Here we are at the start of a new week…

I’m starting to see glimpses from some of your posts on Instagram that the season of Autumn is revving up visually. And that’s what we’re talking about today.

Colors hold such power for our senses.

And I love how we are so uniquely drawn to different colors and shades.

There are particular colors that aren’t necessarily my favorite but when I see the joy and confidence it brings to someone wearing the color. It’s as if I can sense and experience their love for the color and it is beautiful to me in a new and fresh way.

I love a range of colors colors but if I was forced to choose a favorite to the horror of some I would choose the color of black. I’ve actually had people tell me that black isn’t even truly a color…

I love deep black furniture, black blouses, and pants and there’s absolutely nothing like a pair of black boots. Ha!

And I’ve always loved black. I know it’s more common now but back in the 80’s when I chose black velvet for my Bridesmaids I really confused a lot of people haha

I guess for many it is a basic solid base color …bland and not exciting and I feel the exact opposite of that…

It’s rich and deep and interesting...

I love it.

But I also like hot pink and I love orange. The colors are interesting. And we tend to gravitate toward certain colors because of how they make us feel. We want to surround ourselves with them. With our clothing choices and the things we have in our homes. Like wall colors and blankets…

Colors not only speak to our senses but they speak to our souls so we find comfort in surrounding ourselves with colors that bring us joy.

The season of Autumn is a color wonder of transformation. There is something so magnificent and magical as we see the leaves change colors and transition through a season right before our eyes.

There is visually so much change in this season…change that even though parts of the process hold such beauty ultimately it leads to the falling away and death of something beautiful. We’ll talk more about that in Winter but for now, we will just on accepting that change is part of life.

And that change will often be visibility noticeable. This is always the case. But in the seasons that change is obvious it brings a level of vulnerability.

Things are changing and that change can’t be denied by anyone in view of your life.

But the Autumn seasons in our lives aren’t the whole story. They are an essential transformative part of our journey but they are only a part of the larger story.

When you are in the middle of the change it’s hard to focus or see anything else but the parts of your life falling away. Resist the urge to allow this season to define who you are. Because you are just passing through this season and your next season will appear differently.

You were created to grow and change and bring forth healthy new growth in your life. Don’t resist the season you find yourself in. Take a deep breath Unclench your fist and allow the dead things in your life to fall away knowing that in time you will enjoy the beauty of new life and growth.

Have a color-filled week friend :)

So I decided to open the back door to allow the natural light in and I plopped down on the couch with my bible and journal and decided to open up to the weekly focus in the Autumn journal. The words on the page felt very timely as I was reading about the season inviting us ‘home” and reminding us that change is exciting and beautiful and needed for future growth.

All of a sudden I realized there was a direct beam of sunlight shining on the pages I was reading and writing on. Y'all immediately my eyes well up with tears and I felt like God was giving me the biggest hug and reminding me that wherever I am…he is there.

So fast forward to this year, actually I was tempted to cut it last year too. But this year it has really been something I wanted to do and I started people that after the summer I was going to cut it. And I realized I had been putting it off for so long because I was scared. This was surprising to me because I’ve always been the person to cut my hair at the drop of a hat. I would have people say something like it and was always like it can grow back. I’ve had long and short hair and everything in between my whole life and love it all. Thankfully I married someone that does too!

One of the thoughts I wrote was “We can’t be loved until we are seen + known…

And I was thinking through why in our humanity that is something we often times resist as much as our soul yearns to be seen and know

We cover ourselves and hide.

I think one reason we can do that is similar to some thoughts I shared in last week's episode… we are afraid that who we are will be judged and not measured up.

And when we are talking about being known and seen by other humans…there’s a good chance that you will experience both of those things.

We are officially welcoming the season of Autumn this weekend.

I love the correlation between the natural seasons and the seasons of life.

I’m pretty sure that most of us have a preference as to which natural season is our favorite. I’ve always thought about and talked a lot about seasons but creating this seasonal journal this past year it has me diving even a little deeper.

And some of that deeper has come from the feedback I’ve received from some of you as you’ve walked through the seasonal journal. I’ve heard from several of you how you have experienced a season this year that wasn’t a season you particularly love and you found yourself walking through it differently as you intentionally allowed yourself to be present in it. You intentionally showed up differently looking for the beauty of the season…and were pleasantly surprised to find it.

So that got me thinking…

Genesis 3:6-10

These verses are always so sad to me…

Reading how they hid from God.

And sad because I can see how we can still do that today…

The enemy of our souls is always looking to kill steal and destroy us.

And that plays out in many different ways in each of our lives.

The accuser plays on our weaknesses and is relentless with distractions to keep us from living the life we were created for.

The greatest ploy and plan is no different than that we read in the book of Genesis.

A plan to clothe us with shame and separate us from God.

I’ve missed sharing with you in this space the past month but it’s also been good.

Even though I was working and finishing up artwork and writing for the Autumn Journal besides the podcast I took a break on a few things for the month of August. One of those was Instagram. Besides popping in to check out any cuteness that my daughters might have shared of the grands. Scrolling for the most part ceased and I’ve got to say. It felt nice… and refreshing for my soul and my nervous system ;)

So the morning of day 2 my husband and I were sitting with the 2 oldest and were talking with them about how intentional God was when he created them. And how incredible it is to be a woman. How God took from Adam's side to form her goes to explain the meaning of the word that GOD originally spoke when referring to woman.

He called her “ezer kenegdo” which means alongside, or counterpart. We talked about why I have the word EZER tattooed on my wrist… to remind me that the root word for ezer is a rescuer or an ally a warrior that is a skilled companion and partner.

In a world that is trying to equate being a female to wearing a dress and makeup. I want to make sure they understand that God has a reason he designed us the way that he has. And it has nothing to do with our personality or style preferences, but everything to do with our purpose.

As I was writing these thoughts and prayers out I found myself writing a thought that immediately popped into my mind…

Eve was living in scarcity when she believed a lie.

I then wrote out a question - What lie am I believing that is altering my destiny?

Here Eve was living in paradise and scripture tells us that the God of everything that was and is came and walked with her and Adam and yet …

Instead of standing fully in the abundance of all that God is she found herself in a scarcity mindset that opened her up to believing a lie.

Having a scarcity mindset over an abundance mindset can play out on many different levels in our lives.

In our humanity and desire to control entering this rest can be challenging.

We can have this never-ending need to feel productive…

Even in our relationship with God.

We can sometimes think the more we ‘do’ the more we will experience and bring to life

Yet, the mystery is the beautiful dance we must learn and get in rhythm with is ‘the being’

You are worthy of rest

And you are loved. Before you ever do one single thing.

Sometimes it takes a sabbath for us to remember this truth.

So here I am purposely wading through puddles walking barefoot through a parking lot ….basically living my best life. (haha)

And I’ve got to tell you… it felt good.

It felt good to instead of getting frustrated and resisting getting wet

I walked straight into it and chose to follow whimsy and get wet!

We talk a lot about living life intentionally here on the podcast and that’s such an empowering thought and intention on the one side…

But life doesn’t always…match up to our expectations of how the days and weeks are going to look.

So do I still believe we should live intentionally absolutely …

We just need to make sure that intentionality continues when we have no choice but to enter the storm in front of us.

This season is more than likely going to bring a summer storm or two your way.

And you might not have a choice of whether you have to walk through it but you absolutely have the choice in how you are going to walk through it.

I would love to remind you today whether you started this Summer season in the middle of a storm or understand there is more than likely one on the horizon …my hope and my prayer is that you will intentionally take off your shoes…

And you will recognize the ground your feet are touching is sacred.

And you are not walking through any storm alone.

Just as I felt the hard pavement underneath my wet feet that day as I made my way through the parking lot.

Reminding me with my senses I am alive and I am supported.

I hope you are reminded of that truth today as well.

So you can hear me saying I’m excited about moving into this next season thinking wow it must be nice to just flow excitedly from season to season connecting with God and journaling about how he is working in your life haha

Here’s the truth that I want you to hear. I haven’t “felt” excited...

I’ve continued to feel stretched in my life and felt tired and questioned what even matters YET!!! And here’s the really important part I want you to get…

And yet I have been excited about entering summer because that is where I have set my intention and my hope and my heart.

But I didn’t stop there…because I do know that my thoughts are just the starting point.

I intentionally put action to faith.

I say it often and I’m saying it again…we make things so much harder than they have to be…

You were God’s idea

He has a plan and purpose for your life…to bear fruit in the world he has placed you

And that happens naturally when we are in a relationship with him.

No striving….just being.

What a beautiful sacred space to live in.

It’s no secret if you’ve been around here long that I love Matthew 11 and I love how it reads in the Message Bible.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

This scripture is one that I literally take in so slowly line by line

Statement by statement…

Just breathing in this message that Jesus shared when he was physically walking here on earth is such a life-giving invitation to real living.

I talk a lot about rhythms here on the podcast and in life, we have these rhythms between work and rest. I was thinking the other day when I was writing for the summer journal about how seasons are like rhythms….

Just this week I was talking to my husband about how God had so incredibly confirmed something I was working on with the Summer journal. As I walked him through the steps and events that were all so supernaturally threaded together. I told him it’s such a weird mix of blown away and normalcy (kind of like that word supernatural that I just used.

Because it’s so are you kidding me that just happened to this is life being led by his spirit.

I was writing in ink so I was taking a few minutes gathering my thoughts on what I wanted to say to each of them before putting my pen to the card and instead of focusing on words praising them for the great job they did at their performance (which would have totally been speaking in faith at this point haha since the performance hadn’t even happened) and it would be the first performance for the younger granddaughter so her parents weren’t even 100 percent sure she’d make it to the stage. (which she did!)

But instead of focusing on the performance I found myself telling each of them how proud I was that they show up at class each week and learned about dance and work hard at practicing what they are taught.

So even though in person I could go on about how proud I was of their performance on stage … what I really wanted to reinforce through the words they would hopefully read a few more times after the performance was how proud their Grandfather and I were they were faithful in the showing up week after week.

As I picked up my journal to begin writing at some point one day it felt as if I could literally feel the breath coming back in my body as the words flooded the page with recognizing my dependence in getting still in God’s presence and allowing his spirit to strengthen all that I am.

My being still …reminding every part of me that he is God…

Over everything.

Every thought racing through my mind…

Pulling my thoughts out of the past and the future

Into the very moment, I am in

Right here

Right now

That’s where he is …

And where his peace and presence

Surrounds and strengthens me.

It’s the Monday after Easter weekend and I wasn’t planning on recording a podcast today but I shared something with my family yesterday when we gathered to celebrate Resurrection Sunday together and woke up this morning feeling like I wanted to pass it on…

Maybe because it’s the day after…

You know the feeling I”m talking about…like the day after Christmas or any big event when you wake up after days or weeks of preparation and anticipation. And I always experience a little of that after Easter except it’s like a holy hangover haha

And I always have the thought after any focused celebration that this should be our normal. This is why I talk about living intentionally all the time because it can be… we just have to be intentional about living the life we are called to live and not the one that is fighting for our attention.

So back to the conversation, I was having with my husband, Ron… I shared the experience again and he looked at me and said “Wow, that word feels like it’s even more for today. And I wholeheartedly agreed…

It’s probably not accurate to say it’s more powerful or accurate for today but rather our perspective had more clarity to see and truly understand felt more powerful.

Many of us have experiences of past relationships that ended and we find ourselves remembering only the things we miss about the relationship.

I remember doing this so many times after breaking up with someone because for whatever reason knew the relationship didn’t need to go any further and felt good about the decision and yet days and weeks later I found myself romanticizing what was and only remembering the things I enjoyed or what worked in the relationship and ignoring all of the reasons I ended things in the first place.

Now I’m not wanting to imply that everything in the past that has ended needs to be framed as it’s over and gone and wasn’t a great experience in your life. I’m just wanting us to be honest when looking back that even though you are grieving a loss there were most likely parts that you knew weren’t part of your future and didn’t love then but now that it’s gone you aren’t remembering that.

Experiences can be good and still have been for a past season and it’s time to move on.

So how do we show up in a new season that we in many ways don’t feel we’re ready for?

We don’t do it alone…

As human beings love is most often equated to feelings and actions that make one deserving of love

When those ideas couldn’t be further from the truth...

You are loved simply because…

You are loved because you are you

Because your life was God’s idea.

There’s nothing you can do to earn it…

The unbelievable, unconditional, never-ending love that he has for you.

All you can do is receive it…

And experience it.

For sure I can see where I would have preferred making other choices but I can also see that without those choices and outcomes, I wouldn’t have chosen for myself…

I wouldn’t be who I am in this very moment.

Who I am today

How my relationships are today

How I think and process life today

All the layers of life I have lived through have made me exactly who I am today.

What you see in me today is

56 years of layers woven together

I can still remember walking from our car to the church door (which wasn’t that far) and feeling the pain in my face from the bitter temps and the cold air hitting up against it. It was like nothing I had ever experienced.

I now realized what others that knew were trying to tell me …there is a different kind of winter to experience.

And I was getting ready to experience a very cold WINTER.

I guess what I’m leaning into… it’s a deeper reliance and relationship with God and confidence and faith and trusts in him than any understanding I might have. And realizing whatever understanding I have is still lacking…

And at the same time standing in the truth that in God there is no lack.

I’ve talked about and thought a lot about this idea of living our lives on autopilot. I don’t have the statistics right in front of me but it’s amazing how much of our day and how we think and act is just an automated response to how we’ve been living.

It’s just how we are wired...when we repeat certain thoughts and actions they become so ingrained in us that we don’t even think about the details anymore. We’ve all experienced getting into the car to go somewhere and that we go to frequently and arriving and not even remembering the process of getting there.

Even though we are wired for these habits to become so ingrained in us we are also wired for change. And FALL is all about change and that’s what i want to talk about today...3 things we can learn in this season of FALL.

Hey, hey everyone! Happy September!

It’s been a while and it feels good to be back. I didn’t intentionally go into Summer thinking I would be taking a break from the Podcast but I did go into Summer with intention of following my curiosity and creating some sweet Summer moments.

And surprisingly one of the sweetest moments for me has been walking at sunrise most mornings. Who am I?!? LOL! I’m laughing because sometimes it still even feels a little strange to me even though I’ve been a morning person for a while now ...I WAS SO NOT a morning person FOR SO LONG!!!! So add on getting out the door and walking first thing in the morning ...I’m hardly recognizing myself haha

For those that are new here… Some stomach issues got my attention a few years ago and began a journey of healing that has gone deep and wide in my life. I feel like I’ve researched and studied enough to have earned some kind of degree and I’m still learning and healing.

One of the things that I kept hearing talked about was Circadian Rhythm ( which is the 24-hour cycle that is part of our body’s internal clock. So I adjusted my life to start shutting things down as the sun is going down. And for someone that has been a night owl most of her life, this was definitely a mental struggle. I still have my struggles some nights but for most of the time my body has gotten into this rhythm and I actually enjoy my evenings in a different way.

These changes made me realize that when I lived most of the moments in my day in the same forward motion from the time I woke up till I finally faded exhausted or watching something… there was no differentiation in my day. Which in some ways can make our days feel like they are all running together more.

The older I’ve gotten the more I’m amazed at the things that have been right there in plain sight my whole life. Things that are so familiar that we don’t even see them anymore…

One of those things has been the seasons we experience, the days we work and the days we rest and the hours of each of our days. Our incredible creator God knew exactly what he was doing when he set everything in motion.

So here we are at the start of a new month... a month that feels somewhat like a transition month officially moving from Summer to Fall and hoping the weather is cooperating with that season change haha

As I was thinking about that...I was reminded how so many times we can feel like we are in a transition in our lives…

That space between what’s next but not yet …

That space that for so many of us is hard because we want what we want when we want it.

If I had to choose one word to describe transitions it would be… trust.

Trust is an easy word to talk about and much harder to actually live out.

It’s easy for me to say, “I trust God,” after all I’m a Christian and that’s what we do…

Or is it?!?

I’ve been challenged with this issue of trust…

And have recognized how easy it is for me to say and think I am while simultaneously trying to control everything.

That’s Not trust... That’s control.

I want to live what I say I believe.

I want to trust God has a plan even when I don’t see it.

I want to trust he is for me when I don’t feel it at the moment.

I want to trust that he will never leave me even when I feel lonely.

Because this is what I believe that sometimes my flesh wants me to doubt.

I know I’m not the only one that feels like life is one big transition right now.

Like the whole world has been flipped upside down like a board game of LIFE and even when it appears to be flipped back all the pieces have been scattered and tossed around.

Some of us are scrambling trying to once again organize all the pieces…

Some of us realize ...that particular way of playing LIFE is over.

As weird and unsettling as this can feel at times

It’s a strange mix of grief and hope

And if we will open our hearts and eyes

We are able to see God in ways we never have

Our hearts and minds weren’t designed to consume news reports 24/7.

We weren’t designed to carry a device in our hand or pocket at all times.

It’s changing who we are.

There’s so much beauty in the connection we can have in the world with technology but we have to establish daily rhythms that help us live the life we were designed to live. We were created for communication with our Creator. He desires to speak to us in so many ways that we can’t see or hear because of all the noise we are letting in.

As hard as it can feel sometimes I believe we can hold the tension of grief and hope in the days.

We can weep with those who are weeping and we can look to the future and trust that God has a plan and it is good.

I’m excited about this next season...even though like most of you I don’t clearly see all the details in front of me.

One of the beautiful things about this time… although you might have to look and dig a little deeper some days...but there is such beauty and joy and kindness is the most basic and simple things.

Let’s be those that see those beautiful simple things and spread them instead of the latest news.

Who’s with me?

God use us to speak about and to spread your goodness and love in this world. Help us to not let the noise of the world drown out this never-ending hope that we have in you. We love you and we are trusting in you always!

Becoming One Podcast on Apple

Becoming One Podcast on Spotify

Hi Everyone! I’m doing something a little different today on the podcast. I’m actually sharing an episode from a podcast that my husband and I started this past December called, “Becoming One.”

Marriage and relationships are something we find ourselves talking about a lot with each other as well as when we teach and share. Our hope is to create a space for real talk around the relationship of marriage as well the original intention God had for this sacred union from the start. We also think it’s a great resource for those of you that are listening that aren’t married right now, but desire to be in the future.

The reason I wanted to share it with you today is to let you know about a marriage challenge we started and invite you to join us if you’d like. We really believe this challenge can transform your marriage.

So hope you enjoy listening and jump in the challenge with us!

Several years ago I started seeing 4:14 and at first it was here and there and then it was literally all day, everyday. As I mentioned, that is the birthday of my oldest daughter and I mentioned it to her and we would share with each other that we kept seeing it.

For those that are listening that don’t know me well...I’m not one to be hyper spiritual about things.  (I realize that can be someone's perspective haha and that some of you might think of me in that way)  but I’ve been around people that are always having dreams and visions and seeing signs in every single thing and that’s not me.

And I know the whole thing about once something is in your mind you start seeing it (ex of car) but whatever the reason I was seeing 4:14.

With the welcoming of spring i want to invite you to some good old spring cleaning...and I’m not just talking about purging your pantry but I’m inviting you to

Spring cleaning... spirit, soul and body!

What is it about spring that makes you want to throw open the windows and get moving?!?

I think it’s the sunshine and warmer days that gives us an energy boost. I always say Fall is my favorite until Spring comes around.

I admit I’m not exactly a lover of cleaning but I am a lover of growing so if I’ve got to do a little cleaning to make room for some growth then I’m here for it!

Ok, so I’m pretty sure we all know what Spring cleaning looks like in our homes but what does that look like for the rest of our lives?

How can we declutter our lives... our spirits, our souls, our bodies?!?

To keep it simple and in ways we are familiar with I’m going to stay with this idea of “spring cleaning” as it pertains to our homes

I wanted to expand on a couple of things I talked about in the previous episode where I shared the passing of my Mother.
You might not be grieving someone you loved passing away, but you might be grieving the loss of a job or a dream...
the loss of a relationship or the feeling of regret over lost time. Whatever the loss is for you, I invite you sit with it and lean in and learn all that you can from this time and let the presence of God through the process transform you.

Would love to connect with you in our private community on Facebook that was created just for you!

Happy new year friends!

Here we are in the first full week of 2021 and I don’t know what the view is from your lifes window right now...but it’s already looking pretty eventful from my view haha

As usual for this time of year lot of talk about goals and resolutions and word for the year...and if you’ve been around a while you know my thoughts about these things...you have a word rise up in you for the start of a new year GREAT…. You have ZERO positive or productive words rising up… still great!

You alive you’re here…

And that’s what I want to talk about today.

Having a word and a focus is great but it can never do for you what you need to do for yourself.

And there are some questions that have risen up in me that I feel really compelled to share with you…

Questions instead of declarations might seem a little odd at the start of a new year but hang with me…

Not sure how it is for you... but for me personally I typically don’t struggle with high risks and dreaming big.

And that has taken me to certain levels in my life…

And with each new level of growth and busting through comfort zones it doesn’t take much time to realize I’m still dealing with “controlled growth”

Pushing myself to feel just enough discomfort while still holding tightly to the reigns of control.

What is it we’re scared of?

Because I, like you can write down all the lofty words and goals at the start of the new year but do we really want to ask and answer the questions within ourselves to even have the possibility of obtaining these things?!?

And i used the word goal which means “the object of a person’s ambition or effort. An aim or desired result”

But instead of the word goal i prefer to word desire.

Desire is it me is so much more personal.
Desire is something I feel in my core.

The dictionary def of desire is:

Def of desire:

A strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.

And as a believer in Christ, I believe that the GOd of the universe is the one that put those specific desires within me!

Psalm 37:4-6 Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Commit everything you do to the Lord.

Trust Him, and he will help YOU!!

But can i let you in on something I have found to be true over the years.

As I have trusted God and walked out the desires of my heart

They have taken different shapes …

The core desire has remained the same but exactly what that looks like has changed and looked different than what I expected it to look like.

Which leads me to the next question…

Do you trust God with the desires in your heart?

I mean really trust him????

And i get it

Trust can feel super scary

Trust means letting loose of the tight grip of control that

We are under the illusion we actually have ;)

Trust means going all in and trusting God with the results and the outcomes…

And the last question…

What are you protecting yourself from?

Rejection, hurt, pain,

What is it?

Because trying to protect ourselves is what we are doing when we hold back and don’t fully surrender to the life God created us to live.

I mentioned in one of the precious episodes when I was talking about being pregant in the natural and being pregnant with purpose that a lot of the discomfort we experience in life comes from holding in and hiding inside of us what was never meant to be contained.

Those seeds of all that you were created to being forth in the world are meant to come forth out of you.

Your life has the ability to bring forth an expression of the glory and goodness of God that only you can.

What is on the other side of that self protection for you?

What freedom have you yet to walk in because you’ve been more consumed with the opinions of everyone around you more than the one that gives you your very breath!

I read this verse in Isaiah this morning and to me it went right along with these thoughts…

It said “

I will walk the blind by an unknown way and guide them on paths they’ve never traveled. I will smooth their difficult road and make their dark mysteries bright with light. These are things I will do for them, for I will never abandon my beloved ones.

I love how that verse starts out stating “I WILL WALK”

He’s wanting to take us somewhere we’ve never been, a path we’ve never traveled.

2020 was a year of clarity and growth for me in so many ways which was wonderful and yet with that comes new levels of trust…

New levels of unknown ways on paths never traveled.

But here’s the thing that I want to remind you and I of today…

He’s the one that will guide us and make dark mysteries burn with light.

Are you here for that?!?

I know this year has held different circumstances for each of us . for me it has been such a mix of beautiful + challenging moments.

I wanted to end this year with something that God dropped in my spirit in the last couple of weeks that made such a BIG difference in my life this past year .

My faith is always so stirred up when I read about Mary’s encounter with the Angel and the Holy Spirit coming upon her and her response in this encounter…

I admit it…

I’m one of those women that loved being pregnant!

The last 3 of my 5 children were born within a 4 years span and one day my husband mentioned to me that the old saying lots of women say that “you’ll know where you’re done having more children” well he was thinking maybe that feeling doesn’t happen with everyone so I might not want to look for that to be the determining factor!

When I say I loved being pregnant some people assume I had a very enjoyable pregnancies and easy births. Which could be true compared to some hard and complicated birth stories that others have experienced.

But I had the normal 1st trimester I feel like I want to puke all the time (even though I never did) just felt like it...nothing smelled or tasted good and had an energy level of negative 10

Most of those symptoms subsided as I moved further along in the pregnancy only to then add in random weird food cravings and swollen ankles and i can remember with my 4 pregnancy having to constantly rub my stomach because of the burning I was feeling because of the stretching of my stomach which later made since at delivery when the little girl we had been told we were having was instead a handsome, healthy 10 pound baby boy!

So when I say I loved being pregnant and having babies it’s not because it was always comfortable or convenient and easy

I loved it because of the excitement and expectation of what was to come from all of the uncomfortableness and pain that had an ultimate purpose.

I’ve always been amazed how similar giving birth in the natural is to giving birth to purpose in your life.

Galatians 4:19 Paul wrote... Oh, my dear children! I feel as if I’m going through labor pain with you again, and they will continue until Christ is fully developed in your lives.

Most often the greatest gifts that come out of our life come out of pain and struggle.

And The struggle most often times comes from us growing. We can’t grow and stay the same. And sometimes that is super uncomfortable. We get used to knowing how to show up and feel in certain situations and when we start growing sometimes we don’t fit in the same things we used to…

Just like in pregnancy when you go to put on those favorite comfy jeans only to realize you can no longer button them…

It can feel the same in your life as you grow stronger in who you are in Christ and who he specifically designed you to be that you find you no longer fit comfortably in some of the relationships and spaces you originally did.

And that’s not a negative thing… growth is good and natural. We were made to grow.

The discomfort comes because we have gotten comfortable and now we are feeling the stretch. Just like your body goes through an amazing miraculous stretching to support and hold and nourish and birth a baby. Your spirit and mind goes through a very similar process in giving birth to a seed that God has planted within you to bring forth into the world.

And that seed is unique to you. Out of all the fingerprints in the world, there is no one with the exact print as you! You are one of a kind design. A masterpiece. His masterpiece.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that “we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us a new in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

This time of year brings our focus to the birth of Jesus and the young teenage girl Mary that said yes to carrying and giving birth to the Messiah.

Her saying yes was saying yes to a stretching of her life as she knew it in every way!

She would be talked about

Judged

Ostracized by those who didn’t understand or believe in God’s plan for her life…

Yet she said yes.

And chose to trust God over her own feelings and fears and the feelings and opinions of others.

How about you and I say yes again this season.

You might be thinking I’ve already said yes...me too..

And I have to say it again every. single .day

Maybe you want to say yes, but you’re not sure what you’re saying yes to…

Start with the simple prayer of whatever you have for me God all those things you prepared for me before I ever took my first breath those things…

I’m saying yes!

And then keep your heart and spirit open and trust the Holy Spirit to lead you that next step and then the next one…

I’d love to speak a prayer over us…

Father, thank you for the gift of life that you gave to each of us listening today and also the gift of life that you give us through your Son.

May the spirit of Christ and the life he brings shine bright in us this season.

May we each say yes to all that you have planned and purposed for us knowing that we can trust with our lives.

Help us to stay committed to growth and be willing to be stretched and feel uncomfortable know your the plans you have for us are good and are exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ever ask or think.

We love you and we are looking to you... always!

As I was praying + playing in my journal on a rainy Fall morning recently, I found myself doodling leaves and writing these words...

“What needs to fall away in my life?

What dead thing that is barely holding on needs to be released and fall away?

Change is good...

And a natural part of growth.

Don’t resist the things falling away.

Appreciate them for what they brought to you in their season and celebrate the change that their falling away is bringing to you.”

👉🏼Are you sensing or desiring the need for some things to fall away during this season?

Did you know that God had a plan and purpose for your life before you ever took your first breath on this earth?! AMAZING RIGHT?!

In today’s episode, we are talking about Destiny and the one that God has planned for you!

We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it.
Ephesians 2:10

In today’s episode we’re looking at 1 Corinthians 2:16 which says “The unspiritual self, just as it is by nature, can’t receive the gifts of God’s Spirit. There’s no capacity for them. They seem like so much silliness. Spirit can be known only by spirit—God’s Spirit and our spirits in open communion. Spiritually alive, we have access to everything God’s Spirit is doing, and can’t be judged by unspiritual critics.”

Which lead me to the question are you living life from an unspiritual state or from God’s spirit within you?

As believers we can hear from God. He wants to communicate with us Spirit to Spirit.

He is speaking are we listening?

Guys! There is a reason we are told in scripture to guard our hearts and mind. We have a choice in what we allow to stay in our thoughts.

We have a choice in what and who we listen to. We can not expect to listen to news report after new report and spend way too much time scrolling through social media seeing and hearing opinion after opinion and think it’s not going to affect us!

You can go find the information you need to find, make the decisions you need to make and move on.

Let’s not allow the enemy to blind us and distract us from what God is doing in the midst of all of this uncertainty.

As I was thinking about what I wanted to share today I was reminded about something from my days in Tennessee. Summers were hot and winter was cold!  We did enjoy the occasional falling of snow even though it typically didn’t last that long unless it was a major winter storm blowing through.

So I do have some fun memories of playing in the snow, some of the funniest memories are about all the times as kids we would stay up late watching the latest news reports and praying fervently that school would be called off because of the “forecast” of snow. That was the great thing about being surrounded by ridges, hills and mountains. Just the high probability of ice or snow could close things down for days and we were thrilled to be blessed with the gift of SNOW DAYS!

I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught, yield to fear, or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!

Did you know  There’s a reason you think and feel the way you do, You were wired to experience and move through life in a certain way.

God designed each of us internally with a unique personality, thoughts, feelings and dreams and desires

Those qualities are the true seeds that God placed inside of you when you were being formed in your mother’s womb.

Hi everyone!

Hope you’re doing well. :)

I don’t know what day it is that you are hearing this episode but today is the first day of JULY and it’s my birthday month! It’s funny that I’m stating that on the first day of the month because I don’t remember the last time I had an actual “birthday party” I do typically have a birthday meal and celebrate with the fam, but I’ve never been about the party, but what I am about it intentionally taking in life by looking back, looking around, and looking forward.

I had the thought a few weeks ago about sharing a thought from my journal page for the month of July and wanted to invite you along in the July journal journey.

This leads me to the topic of today’s episode. 3 tools to hear God more clearly.

When I typically write or share about tools that help us connect and hear God more clearly, there are a few particular practices that come to mind. Practices that I’ve talked about many times through the years and will continue to talk about.

But today instead of talking about those specific practices which are definitely part of the bigger picture I’m narrowing the focus down to 3 specific tools you need to help you connect with God, your creator in an easy, simple, powerful way.

The Definition of tool is a device, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function.

And a means to an end.

I love that ...a means to an end…

Because even though at any moment we can choose to connect to God. He is omnipresent which means he is always present everywhere at the same time! How cool is that?!?

I can remember as a child trying to wrap my mind around that one!

Even though we have access to the Father at any time we also live in a time that we have access to the world on a device that most often can be found in our hand or somewhere close by. And as beneficial as that can be at times it can also be the biggest distraction in our lives as well as the biggest obstacle in connecting to God intentionally.

So you ready for tool number one?!? Here we go…

The 1st tool you will need is A writing tool ( meaning a pencil, a pen, a crayon...whatever you can get your hands on ;) And I’ve talked about his before but there are actually studies that show that sequential hand movements, like those used in handwriting, actually activate large regions of the brain that are responsible for thinking, language, healing, and working memory.

The 2nd tool is a piece of paper. And when I say paper that can be the nice think lined kind OR it can be parts of a recycled paper grocery bag that you have. What kind of paper you use is totally up to you. You don’t have to have a fancy journal, a regular old classic sheet of notebook paper works just fine. As a matter of fact, sometimes the fancy-schmancy journals hold us back. Because they are so perfect looking we don’t want to mess them up with words that might not make sense and misspellings and mistakes.

And last but not least tool number 3 is your words.

I do want to add there are times when I feel the need to start out with someone else’s words...It might be a day where I’m needing some help in opening up so I might borrow some of David”s words from the book of Psalms. And I will write it out and typically by the time I’ve written that out my own words are showing up.

I know you might be listening and thinking. Another person talking about journaling...or this is sooo basic.

And you would be right! It is! And isn’t usually everything that is true and healthy and so needed in our lives?!? Hahaha

We tend to overcomplicate everything we put our hand to haha

This is in no way offered up to you as another practice to check off some man-made religious checklist or another task to get done on your never-ending to-do list.

Not at all. And I keep sharing these things because I keep sharing them with myself!

And I will continue to share and remind myself because I have seen the good that comes from this practice of putting pen to paper as well as the “not so good” that comes when I don’t make the choice to do so.

God is ALWAYs present but are we?!?

Journaling has probably been the biggest tool I use that has impacted my spiritual growth. It’s a simple way I can get still and show up for a God that has already shown up for me.

From the title, you might have been expecting something different than the simplicity of the 3 basic tools I mentioned. And that was purposeful because Guys, It really is that simple.

I’m excited to be diving deeper into areas like this in new SHE IS content that is coming soon!

I’ve never felt more passionate about sharing this hope of awakening to who we are in Christ and this unique God-designed destiny that is within each of us.

Each of us is here in the moment of time I believe for such a time as this.

And, seriously I would love for you to join in with me on my July journal for my birthday month. Even if you don’t want to commit to every day, even if you committed to a few times a week or even once a week is better than nothing! But if you do take a pic and share and tag me and use the #julyjournal

Ok, that’s it, have a great week ya’ll.

I’m guessing that many of you were like me and a few months ago thought by the time we got to Summer our world would be looking a lot different. And in some ways we would be right...it is definitely looking a lot different these days. The hope for somewhat “normal” Summer Days has dimmed which leads me to my thoughts today. How can we navigate a “not so normal” Summer with Intentionality?!? Would love to hear your thoughts! Email me at Susan@susanbeth.com or shoot me a DM on Instagram @susanbmorris
