Besides Jen being much happier than Truta and Shaylee about Croatia beating England yesterday, it's Throwback Throwdown on #TheShowKC! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert and Colbert mentioned that the Rock had a different nickname growing up, Dewey. This led to the discussion of what your nickname is and why is that your nickname! We play a few rounds of Beat the Buzzer!
Jen revealed on #TheShowKC that she was a trailer park lifeguard for a summer and described her bad sunburns from that job! We wanted to know your terrible sunburn stories! We played Gen X vs. Millennial! Today though, Shaylee the Millennial took on a Xennial, the generation between Gen X and Millennial!
It's Tuesday on #TheShowKC and we opened up the Vent Line today for all your first world problems! A round of Urban Myth was played, as was Beat The Buzzer! And today we learned Truta's true feelings about United States soccer player Alex Morgan!
The trio gives kudos to Salvy for his selection to the All-Star team...but how much of an honor is it this year? And is he the most qualified? We talk Sporting KC and the rough patch they've encountered lately. This leads the group to the best stadium food. Pretzels? Peanuts? BBQ? Brats? What food do you like at the ballpark? Jen talks about her 5K from yesterday and Truta mentions his firework show as we find out what happened on the 4th of July! We play Man on the Street with special guest star, Tiny from Xscape! It's Throwback Throwdown day and Truta's pick made Shaylee give him the rap name Casper for when he goes into a rap battle with B. Rabbit!

Jen also stated she has visited the store in Tonganoxie that a winning lottery ticket was sold and Joey wanted to play rec basketball and eat mozzarella sticks with LeBron James!

Jen loves Chris Pratt but a few episodes in, she is not a fan of Parks and Recreation, this still hurts Joey's feelings! #TheShowKC wanted to know what are things that are universally loved that you just do not like! The day started with talk of Big Slick and the record breaking year the charity had for Children's Mercy Hospital. Unfortunately, the professional team that plays at Kauffman Stadium didn't have nearly as good a night as the celebrity softball event. Sporting KC continued their dominance over the weekend, with a game that even Mike Kellar could have appreciated. Too bad he's wrapped up in Lord Stanley's Cup and couldn't be bothered to watch soccer. After some kudos to a longtime KC player, the podcast ends with a fun Q&A session with Truta about PA Announcing for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Truta found a great story of an astronaut who forgot an SD card at home that he needed for work, his work was in space! #TheShowKC was stretched and ready for a round of Think 'N Sync!

Jen asked people on the street the tough questions and it was up to listeners to guess what the response was going to be in a game of Man on the Street!
The internet is wondering whether an audio clip is saying the name "Laruel"or "Yanny." #TheShowKC also pondered and invited people to weigh in one what name they are hearing! It's Gen-X vs. Millennial day on #TheShowKC, and it was up to a member of Generation X to take on Shaylee the Millennial! We received a call from a woman that won a gift certificate to Smitty's Garage from Jacqui Lucky and the winner described it as a "man magnet." Off air we discussed some of the best places to meet good looking singles in Kansas City and Truta's answer made us bring it to #TheShowKC!

It was a wild day on Monday Funday with topics and conversations that bounced from one thing to another. We started with NASCAR at the Kansas Speedway this weekend and a semi-breakdown of the action courtesy of Mike. On a football note KC's new quarterback, Pat Mahomes, has embraced his new role and has been showing up at all of the big city events. Mahomes was seen at the NASCAR race, a recent concert and other great places. We talk some Royals, a little Sporting KC and some golf. Then, a big discussion about the Supreme Court ruling that national sports gambling is open to the states. And an ever bigger discussion about karaoke closes the show.
TheShowKC is back for a new week today! Jen said that her brother purchased a boat over the weekend, which led to the topic of items you know were expensive but decided to purchase! Truta is really excited for the upcoming Royal Wedding, even if his invitation was lost in the mail and Jen found a list of rules that the Royal Family have to follow! A round of Think 'N Sync was played, #TheShowKC might not have got the most correct answers but they did for the first time have two members of #TheShowKC shoulder shrug 'N Sync!

It's Thursday and that means it's Throwback Throwdown on #TheShowKC! Big Slick is coming up in just a few weeks, Jen, Truta and Joey are all very excited that Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Horrible Bosses, The Lego Movie) is coming to Kansas City. Shaylee wasn't familiar with him causing #TheShowKC to wonder what people are big in your eyes, but not in everyone else's eyes! We had some great calls and texts on the topic! Justin Timberlake is accepting applications to work for him, yes, please! And speaking of JT, a round of Think 'N Sync was played!
TheShowKC talked about NASA and Uber working together to create a flying car which led to a conversation on bad drivers which led to people calling in and telling stories about getting pulled over for going just a couple of miles over the speed limit, turning into a different lane and an excessive blinker situation! It's Gen-X vs. Millennial Day on #TheShowKC! Shaylee the Millennial took on a member of Generation X in a graduation/high school theme of Gen-X vs. Millennial and she may have got her diploma!
During Jen's Impossible we learned that music is a great way to relieve stress, #TheShowKC determined the Vent Line must be a close second! With being in the middle of graduation season, #TheShowKC discussed all things graduation! For a chance to win tickets to see James Taylor, a round of Trick or Trending was played!

Mike is back from Marine camp! He got the chance to head out to the bases around San Diego for an intensive week-long training course with the Marine Corps. In today's Monday Funday, we talk a lot about Mike's experience with the drill sergeants, his shooting skills, a farting roommate, and why they called the ambulance for him! In Chiefs news we talk about DJ going to Oakland. Sporting KC won a flat game over the weekend. And the Royals finally get a series victory!
Inspired by a story that happened in Colorado, #TheShowKC wanted to know what the grossest thing you ever witnessed in public was! Jen ran a 5k with her family for Girls On The Run on Saturday and for part of the 5k, she was carrying her seven-year-old! A round of Think 'N Sync was played and #TheShowKC might finally be getting the hang of this game!
May the Fourth be with you today! Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy called into #TheShowKC today! Our friends at Variety KC are excited that the first all inclusive exhibit is having it's grand opening this morning at the Kansas City Zoo and Danny Duffy will be there to take part in the festivities! In honor of Star Wars Day being today and the first leg of the Kentucky Derby taking place tomorrow, Jen created a game of if the name is a Star Wars character or a Kentucky Derby horse!

Jen discovered Truta has not tried Slim Chickens because if he did he would feel like he was cheating on Raising Cane's. This led to a discussion on what brands or places you are so loyal to that you feel you are cheating when you use something similar! #TheShowKC tried to match each other's thoughts in a round of Think 'N Sync!

It was a role and a character he would reprise in numerous TV shows and commercials from the History Channel to Geico. But did you know Mr. Ermy was a Kansas boy? Born in Emporia and raised in the Kansas City area, Ermey lived around this part of the world until age 14. R. Lee Ermey passed away Sunday, April 15th 2018 at the age of 74. The first half hour has Truta trying to figure out a child's tongue twister based on Sixpence None the Richer...which we figure out later was "sing a song of sixpence." Entertainment News brought us the story of the Oscar Stealer. Someone brings up being voted Most Likely To Succeed. We wonder if anyone on The Show made those lists. Both Jen and Truta's schools did not do them, and Joey didn't make the cut. One texter's kid was voted Most Likely to Join the Army -- and he's going to when he graduates! Jen's dad was voted Most Likely to use a flip phone, and that has us reminiscing about our first cell phones. The Vent Line opens with thoughts on people who don't use their blinkers, people who take enormous amounts of selfies, and the WIND! Haha - that was a good one. Nobody on The Show likes the Bachelor, but we heard last night's finale was particularly cringeworthy, so we dial up our Bachelor expert - Natalie Rush from the afternoon show who fills us in all of the Arie goodness. Another cold day in KC but #TheShowKC had things heating up with talk about speeding and getting pulled over. We found out Jen was once pulled over 14 times in a 6 month period. And got out of a ticket every. Single. Time. WHAT? It wasn't just enough for us to get on her case, though, because Jen's Dad called in to give her a piece of his mind as well. Remember, Jen's Dad was the Under Sheriff in KCK for a long time. He knows the drill. After that, it was your stories of getting pulled over (and out of tickets). Sadness all around on #TheShowKC today as Truta actually had to come to work after Johnson County cancelled his jury duty call, and Shaylee was mourning her Vikings after they lost to the Eagles in the NFC Championship. We catch up on last night's SAG Awards. There are a ton of concerts coming to Kansas City: the least of which is Billy Joel at Kauffman Stadium in September. We have tickets to give away all week long. Truta nearly got Shaylee busted on Friday as they were on the way to the Billy Joel announcement. Don't ever listen to your passenger -- especially if they tell you to make illegal turns! Shaylee watched an 80's movie over the weekend, so we got to quiz her on Better Off Dead. Truta doesn't like the movie much. In all access, P Diddy draws attention to the fact that the world has forgotten he was also on stage with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson during the ill-fated "Booby"bowl half time show. And guess what? So was Nelly AND Kid Rock. What?? We didn't remember anything about those guys. Jen takes her microphone on the street to help us play a game for Billy Joel tickets. Julia Luetje is a 10 year old with a bright future. Julia came up with the idea for the "Storm Sleeper" - a pillow that provides a cover for the head and a bluetooth speaker to drown out the sound of storms. Julia entered Frito-Lay's Dreamvention Competition along with 13,000 other kids across the U.S. However, Julia's Storm Sleeper got her selected as one of the five finalists for the $250,000 grand prize. Julia came by to tell us about her other inventions, coming up with the Storm Sleeper and what lies ahead.

A new phone scam demands $2,000 from people in order to prevent a woman's fingers from being "dismembered." Jen says she would let them cut the girl's fingers off since she doesn't have two grand to hand over. People suck when they don't use their turn signal, this is what we discovered in Jen's Impossible Question. Billy Joel is going to be a father again - at age 68! The cast debates their Halloween costume. Killer clowns are trying to grab people in Florida (of course), but a kid defended himself from the clown with a selfie stick. Truta wants to invent a selfie stick that can double as a weapon. A college girl "contaminated" her roommate's water bottle with h20 from the toilet. Ugh!! Watch your cups. Stuff we talked about on #TheShowKC: a woman running for Congress says she has been abducted by aliens on multiple occasions; Jen's "Soothing" Impossible Questions; there was a great "Rob Burgundy" moment during a football game over the weekend, when the announcer straight read the teleprompter, including stuff he wasn't meant to read out loud. This lead Truta to revisit his all time favorite news blooper clip about the gay/blind mountain climber. Our friend Casi Joy finally got married over the weekend, and we revisit the wedding present that The Show cast sent to Casi and Bryan: the "illumi-bowl"...a light up toilet bowl seat! Who wouldn't want to turn their toilet into a nightlight? It's Payback a Friend day and we want to help someone pay their debt in concert tickets. We helped Renee pay off her debt to Kim by sending them to the Janet Jackson concert. Luckily Kim accepted this form of payment and the two are actually going to have a great night hanging out together! Lots of celebrities are getting hit by cars now. We think it's an epidemic to get publicity for their projects. As of the 17th of October there are only 69 days until Christmas. This Is Us has been a huge show. Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge grew up in Leavenworth and cut her teeth singing in clubs around the Kansas City area. On Sunday she will sing the National Anthem prior to the Chiefs-Steelers football game. There was a lot of ground covered on #TheShowKC today. Fall was here in a big way this morning with the chilly air. Jen is still crying over This Is Us...and apparently, everyone else is, too! We woke up to news that Hugh Hefner had passed away on Wednesday and track celebrity reaction for you. Truta is bowling Thursday night for a fundraiser (7p, No Other Pub in the Power and Light District), while Jen goes to the hockey game at Sprint Center. There are teenagers out there who could not care less about driving. We talk to some parents whose kids have had no desire to get their license -- and then some who can't wait. Then, Jen's dad called to weigh in on the whole teen driving issue (he is a teacher). Jen is not going to get a flu shot this year, she doesn't like them. We debate who will get one this year. Listeners call in to play Playboy or No Way, where we ask you what celebrities appeared in Playboy. Truta once went to a Playboy party, but neither saw Hugh nor got any numbers. That's about right. And you know what that coffee does to you... sends you to the bathroom a lot, just like Jen discusses in the Impossible Question. Who got voted off of Dancing with the Stars last night? (Spoiler alert!) What does it take to be basic? Truta wants to know what it means to be "basic." The crew and listeners reveal which TV shows they are most excited to see return. Truta remembers what it was like to record (and re-record) your outgoing answering machine message. Shaylee has a problem...she saw a guy once and didn't feel a connection. Billy Brimblecom is a childhood friend of Jason Sudeikis, the SNL and movie star. After losing his leg to cancer, Billy founded Steps of Faith, a foundation which helps amputees without health insurance get access to costly prosthetics. On November 12th, Jason Sudeikis and some of his other famous friends will host a fundraiser for Steps of Faith, a night of comedy and music called Thundergong. Billy tells us all about it. Then, we dip back into the archives for a conversation with Counting Crows drummer, Jim Bogios. It was a year ago - on the exact same night, no less - that Counting Crows took the stage with matchbox twenty, much as they will do again Wednesday evening. Finally, Larry the Cable guy is an ardent - if not downright obnoxious - supporter of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team. So much so, that he was credited with leading the charge to fire the school's athletic director after the team's dismal start to the season. Larry joins us to talk about a positive aspect of football, a donation drive for his Git R Done Foundation that will put the winners in a suite with him during the Nebraska-Ohio State game.

Those credits will bump fans up further in the line to buy concert tickets when Taylor's tour is announced. This would lower the status of those who don't -- or can't -- share stuff online. Today on KC Closeup: Brad Eastman was a normal guy on a run, training for the Walt Disney Marathon, when something in his body felt "weird." That weird sensation was his body telling him that something was wrong. When Brad made it to the doctor, an MRI showed that he had a brain tumor. Brad underwent surgery, chemo and other treatments, and today will run in the 15th Annual Head For The Cure 5k at Corporate Woods. Brad's story contains many wake up calls for people who ignore some of the warning signs the body tries to pass along. In the second part of our show, Independence, MO Mayor Eileen Weir calls in to talk about this year's Santa Cali Gon Days festival, starting up this Friday in the historic Independence Town Square. As the festival celebrates its 45th year, it will take on the theme of Main Street 1849. Mayor Weir tells us all about it. Have a good one!

When it was decided that Governor Brownback would move on as an ambassador and people began to pay attention to the 2018 election, Jack discovered that the Kansas constitution does not actually spell out any rules for who can run for the top position. No age limit, no nothin'. So Jack has decided to run for Governor. We talk with him this morning. In one of Truta's favorite stories we find out about the wedding crashers who left the gift of $1 -- and now the married couple wants to meet the crashers! We get a Bruno Mars review from a friend. An awful story from Ohio about a carnival ride came up in entertainment news, and we find out that his Bullwinkle impression is as bad as, well, every other impression he does. Phone topic time: Truta's friend tried to get out of a party by blaming her kids; after leaving a message with the made up excuse, she thought they hung up the phone and proceeded to rip the person giving the party. After a while, she looked down and noticed the phone never hung up! Uh oh. When did you text the wrong person? Or e-mail? Or call? Great stories this morning. Bieber did something stupid again and Shaylee reveals all in the All Access, plus Dancing With The Stars is looking for a great new competitor! Check your basement for water! On KC Closeup for July 23, 2017. First, a local story that ties into a major political headline this week. Senator John McCain was diagnosed this week with a glioblastoma - an aggressive brain tumor. This same disease affected Matt Anthony's brother, Chris in October 2000. As part of his legacy, Chris and Matt founded the Head for the Cure 5k run/walk in 2002. This year, as the run celebrates its 15th year, not only is the event bigger than ever, but the returns are the greatest they have ever been. With more than 20 Head for the Cure events across the country, the foundation is poised to pass the $10 million mark some time in the next year -- all of it benefiting the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of doctors and institutes across America who mission is to lead clinical trials and research into brain cancers. In the second half of the show we meet Gabe Maloney and his service dog, Stanley. When Gabe and Stanley were thrown out of an Independence business because a clerk and a police officer did not recognize an outward disability in Gabe, he didn't get mad - he just got an idea for an Eagle Scout project. #KCCloseup #KCPride #HeadForTheCure #ServiceDogAwareness
A humid day on #TheShowKC. The Juice is about to be let loose and we have Joey pouring free OJ in Westport to commemorate. Sad news about Chester from Linkin Park, who took his own life yesterday on what would have been the birthday of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. Jen's Impossible question had important things for Truta to remember now that his birthday is coming up. We try to answer the question, What happened to Josh Hartnett? Joey and the girls head outside to pour Free OJ now that the Juice will be free. And Joey begins to stretch for his race against Jen. Dressed as a shark, Joey will try to beat Jen on a tricycle. There was great build-up to the event....and then, the race actually happened. Jen is so tall she doesn't fit on a tricycle. Joey was really unable to get the pedals going. We make an announcement about Christmas in July and what you can win from #TheShowKC over the next couple of weeks. Jersey Shore is back! Shaylee had the details in All Access. A quick look at news and Truta needs a talent. Why? He has tickets to see one of his favorite bands, Coldplay, in August. It seems like every night they've been pulling a fan up on stage to perform with them. Well, apparently you have to be talented and ready to go just in case this happens at a concert. Truta pulled an Amelia Earhart and went missing from Jen's watch party last night. The girls apparently had a lot of food and are now convinced Earhart lived! Jen's Impossible Question had to do with clean desks at work. Truta didn't quite like Baby Driver as much as Jen. He felt there could have been more action. There were some big concerts this weekend and #TheShowKC cast members break down the shows they saw. We started talking about riders -- the silly things artists ask for in their contracts with venues -- and Jen made us guess the artist based on the rider. The girls recap the Amelia Earhart documentary. Caller Damien plays the Whisper Challenge with us...will the girls stay the champions? Amelia Earhart dominated the conversation today, as it is all over the world. Researchers think she was alive and captured by the Japanese. Jen went from total skeptic when #TheShowKC began today, to believing somewhat, to now hosting a watch party for the documentary this Sunday. We also talk about baby names - did you know Amelia is #2 on the 2017 list of most popular baby names? Since when? We actually had the mom of an Amelia call in. Each cast member of The Show draws a Big Brother contestant...and it's a very #BB-esque punishment this season. Jen goes deep into the recesses of each cast member's social media for a game of "Who Tweeted It". Why are they trashing the place and throwing chairs in the pool?? Can we not have nice things, people? With the weekend about to start we ask how you are #Blessed. We heard from Ashley, a teacher, who is taking time off to potty train her kid (wha???) and even heard from people with connections to Children’s Mercy Hospital - the perfect thing for this Big Slick weekend. Our buddy Paul from B&B Theatres called in to talk about movies opening up this weekend...Cars 3, Wonder Woman and 47 Meters Down are still hot and the big, new film is Transformer: The Last Knight. The Show cast plays a round of Big Slick Password and Truta is dismayed when the girls actually had more opportunity to win than the boys. It was an unfair advantage! Next, one of the guests we’ve been waiting for… Sarah Chalke (Roseanne, Scrubs) called in to talk about driveway RV birthday parties, human centipede, shot putting, mall walking, and of course, Big Slick. Big Slick Week continues on #TheShowKC today, and it's a huge morning! Comedian Samm Levine (Freaks N Geeks) called in and agreed that Will Forte is THE sexiest Big Slicker on the softball field. Then, our very own Voice contestant Casi Joy came into the studio. Casi is singing the National Anthem and O Canada at the Big Slick Royals game Friday night. She even brought her puppy in to hang out, which made the girls happy! Then we played the Beat Shazam game and Casi scored her first victory. Last time wasn't quite so good for her. A little All Access news from Shaylee and then we get an in studio visit from ANOTHER big superstar: David Cook! Not only that, The Show got an exclusive, premiere sneak peek at David's new single "Gimme Heartbreak" which is available Friday at all music stores and services. After David we talk about the boy who went missing - but was miraculously found on his roof by a TV helicopter. Jen doesn't believe the story to be true. Truta thought it sounded like Balloon Boy from years back. Bachelor in Paradise news in Jen's celebrity report and then Truta breaks out a survey that says the Chiefs have the worst fanbase in all of the NFL, which we know to be false! What?? You yell "the floor is lava" at someone and then count down from 5. The other person has to get their feet off the floor before you get to zero. Eric Stonestreet gave us a little insight and scoop into the Big Slick event. We are talking to James Van Der Beek, Sarah Chalke and other celebs through-out the rest of the week. We ripped off Jimmy Fallon's new game: Think Fast! Jen and Joey took turns asking each other random questions and they had to answer as fast as they could and the more wrong the better. In the All Access we talk Kate Winslet and Leonardo. Jen's neighborhood is getting run over with solicitors. We find out early on in the show that Joe Buck does indeed ruin everything. Truta had a bad skinny dippy experience in college. Queen Bey had twins and the world exhales. We ask how you passed the time while your power was out? Comedian/Actor Will Forte (SNL, Last Man On Earth) called in to chat about this week's Big Slick event, his softball prowess and how his sexiness affects the game. How can Coldplay be as bad as the Chainsmokers? We find out in Shaylee's All Access. Back to the ticket giveaways as we have tickets to see (the) Lorde next March at Sprint Center (right before Christmas). We play the Google Predicts game and this time Jen did the googling while Truta tried to guess. It got cringeworthy real fast. Shaylee watched the Breakfast Club over the weekend and gives us her review today in the weekly movie report. After asking a few trivia questions we determined she did indeed watched the show...and liked it! CBS has unveiled the new cast of Big Brother and we reveal our favorites and break 'em down in the entertainment news segment. Truta played a joke on the girls and told them he was out all night drinking following the previous night's Media awards. Shaylee believed Truta was drinking til 5:30 in the morning and came straight to the show. Well...not so much. He had McDonald's and was in bed by 10:30. It turns out nobody knows where chocolate milk comes from - people think it's from brown cows. Wow. Entertainment News had some Real Housewives info and news of Aisha Tyler leaving The Talk...and consequently not coming to Big Slick. As it is, while a lot of people didn't realize chocolate milk did not come from brown cows, 40% of 3rd-5th graders did not realize burgers came from cows. Say huh?? Chase and Holly from Charlie Hustle t-shirt company stopped by to unveil some news about their Big Slick shirt and show off their new line of American tees, just in time for 4th of July. We have our B&B Theaters own Paul Farnsworth in to talk about the big movies for the weekend, including Cars 3, Rough Night, 47 Meters Down (the shark movie) and the Tupac film. Comedian Joe Lo Truligo (Brooklyn 9-9, Super Bad) called in to talk about coming to the Big Slick weekend. It's survey time and this time Truta's asking the cast about the Hottest TV Dads, just in time for Father's Day. Truta initially thought the story about a blimp crashing in the woods at a PGA event was about Tiger Woods getting high and crashing something. Jen announced the Lorde concert in Entertainment News. In entertainment news we enjoy Miley Cyrus singing karaoke with jumbled lyrics. There's a new list from Cosmo about the 50 "Old" Movies Young People Must See. We go through the list to see if we can add some to Shaylee's list. We play a round of Trick or Trending to give away some Lady Antabellum tickets. Speculation is that Beyonce has already given birth -- and rumor says she and Jay-Z built a maternity ward on the side of their house. We debate "push presents" and grandma showers then get into the real debate: what will be the Song of the Summer? Contenders include Chainsmokers w/ Coldplay, Ed Sheeran "Shape of You", and Bieber's "Despacito" -- which is a fav of Truta and Shaylee. The internet lost its collective mind when it discovered Sasha Obama's real name is Natasha. We got some great calls from Peanut, Tater, Orbit, Jenkins and more! Great stuff. Shaylee does not know the Talking Heads. Jen's entertainment news has Ryan Seacrest and Idol updates. We talk the new Mummies exhibition at Union Station. Someday nothing goes right on #TheShowKC. We thought this might be one of those days. Truta is watching a dead cockroach in the stairwell that never gets picked up. It's good sign of how clean our building is. Jen and Truta both love 60 Minutes, even though they feel it makes them old. We get an impossible question about stealing from work. The latest on the Bachelor in Paradise saga. Shaylee wonders how soon is too soon to drop an ex from social media. The Google Predicts game makes a comeback and Shaylee (kinda?) won. Jen was watching America's Got Talent and one of the best guys was a radio sales dude from Ohio. We got the idea to see if our sales people had talent, and Ryan came up the winner with his impression of Bob Dylan doing Baby Got Back. We chat about the best and worst states to raise a kid. Friday at #TheShowKC at Producer Joey is in Chicago with a wedding that features a magician and pet adoptions. Wha??? The Show kicks off and Truta is back after spending a day with a sick kid. He almost likes doing the show better at home (he can stay in his undies there). We get to entertainment news and the Seinfeld (non)-hug heard 'round the world. Weird dreams occupied our thoughts. A different kind of #TheShowKC today. Adi is sick with strep throat so Truta handled his part of The Show live from his basement office. Much talk of the wearing (or not wearing) of pants ensues. Jen has an impossible question as alway. We get into the entertainment news and are ready to announce another big concert coming to Kansas City, and it is...Katy Perry! See her in October at Sprint Center. We play a game to see how much (or little) Shaylee and Producer Joey know about New Kids on the Block. The answer is: not much. During the All Access with Shaylee we learned that Phil Collins had been rushed to the hospital overnight after tripping on a chair, falling and cracking his head open. Well, that opened a whole can of worms on Twitter, as the Phil Collins song puns began in earnest. Next up, Graham from One Flag came in to talk about the group's latest development: opening up a contest to find the design of the flag. One Flag's goal is to unite both sides of the state line under one banner. The winning design is worth some great prizes and more info will be out soon on the parameters of submission. Random stories about birds, bats and Shaylee's movie list follows before Jen closes out with another look at Entertainment News and Phil Collins.
From the start, the feng shui of #TheShowKC and the studio was off because Shaylee moved seats in the studios. In entertainment news Jen made us all feel inadequate by highlighting a 9 year old girl who belted out a big song on America's Got Talent. We listened to it and everyone realized we have no talent. Producer Joey is going to wedding where they are going to have a magician, adoptable puppies and food trucks. Is this a carnival or a wedding? Jen found a story of a woman who is having trouble finding a photographer for her big day. Read a little further on and you see why: she wants the photog to agree to a contract where she gets refund if they get divorced. After all, she won't need the pictures if she breaks up with her husband. A real photographer called in and said, "no way." In the All Access with Shaylee, Jen think Ed Sheeran's "Don't" is the same as "No Diggity". Hmmm...check our mashup and see. We play Gen-X vs Millennial and again Shaylee loses. Shayles, however, did know what "Zestfully Clean" meant. We love random calls and texts...Sue from Olathe called to tell us that she had been working out of town and missed our show. More Waboom guy and Mandy Moore comes up. It was finally time to make the big announcement: U2 is coming back to Kansas City for the first time since the early 00's. Today Truta talks with Bill Svoboda, executive director of Kansas City PrideFest, one week before the start of this year's event. With great musical acts, food, health fair, and activities for the whole family, PrideFest has become a great gathering spot for the LGBTQ community and its allies, allowing Kansas City to come together in the name of progress and inclusion. The festival kicks off Friday at Berkley Riverfront Park. Also mentioned in today's episode, it is the final day for the Kansas City Jazz and Heritage Festival. B&B Theatres presents the new movies feature and this week we talk Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Truta compares himself to Zac Efron and The Rock. Casi Joy from the Voice joins us in studio to talk about her upcoming tour and performance in Kansas City. Like Truta, she was late getting going because her alarm failed her. We rope Casi into playing the Shazam game, which is Truta's new favorite game show. For a second it appeared as if no one would get anything right. More entertainment news and then Jen and Truta discuss the new Netflix show The Keepers, which is about a nun. Both Jen and Truta went to Catholic school and both either fainted or puked in church. Another fun, interactive #TheShowKC today... it's the last day of school for Truta's daughter. The girls were bowled over by last night's surprise ending to Dancing With The Stars finale (spoilers in the audio). A woman got locked IN a CVS store when the workers left without checking to make sure the store was empty. We asked, Where did you get locked in/out? Tons of great calls and texts and stories you have to hear! Shaylee's All Access gave us the latest on Katy Perry vs Taylor Swift. Then, in Gen-X vs Millennial, we reminded ourselves just how few movies Shaylee has seen. This opened up the floodgates. The better part of The Show's second half today was spent on the text line and all of the movies Shaylee needs to see. TheShowKC opens and the kids are bored with summer already, partly because Jen gives them homework over the summer. Say what? Sad news about the explosion at a concert in Manchester, England. We got the latest information about the alleged attackers and the victims. The Tuesday "Impossible Question" was pretty tough. It took numerous tries to get the right answer but we eventually got there. In celebrity news, Dancing with the Stars will end its season tonight with a special finale. Then, there was the dude who was very proud of his, uh, sexual prowess. Shaylee's All Access has the latest scoop on the Cash Me Ousside girl, the beef between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, and Abby Lee Miller from Dance Moms. Then, it was time to bring on Jorianne, the Coffee Cup Psychic. Jorianne can see the past, present and future through her coffee cup. Jen thought it would be a good idea to apply Jorianne's abilities to find out how Shaylee's new relationship is going. Plus, we take a call with listener Elizabeth who wanted to get some info about her potential move to Vegas for a job. Another round of entertainment news has more sadness as we learn that Roger Moore, the actor who portrayed James Bond in the most number of films, passed away at the age of 89 following a short battle with cancer. This riles up Shaylee and led to a big discussion about music. Something we can all agree on was that Jen cries a lot and no one was surprised she shed a tear over Titanic...the movie. A new season of The Bachelorette premieres tonight, so we revisit past stupidity from the show by using direct quotes from old Bachelor/Bachelorette shows for The Accent Game. Hump Day at #TheShowKC. Shaylee and Truta were both attacked by birds while coming into the office today. Jen hit a snake. Our record with wildlife is not good right now. The big story is this guy who is suing his date for texting through a movie. She eventually ghosted on the guy and he wants his $17.31 back. We looked to you for the worst date stories and Mallory came though. Then we got caught up in who would play each cast member of The Show if they were to make a movie about us. A random #TheShowKC for a rainy Monday... first, Shaylee was in New York for a special trip to interview some movie stars, which we'll hear about later in the week. Truta DJ'd a Prom - and forgot his suit. From Entertainment News, Kelly Ripa gets a co-host (Seacrest, spoiler alert!), April the Giraffe's baby gets a name, and you get some cheap concert tickets. Vince called in with a story from Comicon. Turns out he found some money, turned it in like any honest person, and was rewarded with some time hanging out with Ron Perlman. Awesome! He even snuck in some beer for Ron to enjoy as well. Then, we got the text of the year. A random texter asked if Shaylee wanted to go on a date over chips and salsa to talk about One Direction. Of course her interest was piqued, so we called this guy up. Turns out he met Shaylee in the chip aisle at the grocery store this past week. Jen and Truta give him a grilling and we'll see what happens now... til another day!
This week on KC Closeup, a look ahead at the upcoming "Star Wars Week" (May the 4th be with you, fans!). To celebrate, Friends of the River is going to set the Guiness World Record for the " Largest Lightsaber Battle." Dubbed "The Battle 4 KC", proceeds will go to benefit Children's Mercy Hospital to help fight Cystic Fibrosis. Stefan White joins us - with lightsaber in hand - to discuss the battle and how a love for a movie universe can help fight CF. In the second half of the show, Matthew J. Taylor calls in to talk about the musical 42nd Street, which runs May 2-7 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. 42nd Street is one of Broadway's enduring musicals and Matthew plays Julian Marsh, the director of the musical with-in the musical. So it's rainy this weekend and you're missing #TheShowKC, right? Well, don't worry. Here's a little extra special package of some of the best stuff we've done over the past week or so that hasn't made the SHOWcast yet! We start off with great celebrity run-ins...when Producer Joey stumbled upon Royals legend Frank White at an event we had to know: what's your celebrity meeting story? We got everyone from Andre the Giant to Kevin Costner. Then, we talk Sharknado 5 with actress Tara Reid, who is in town this weekend at Planet Comicon. The next movie in the Sharknado series makes its debut this August. Last week both Truta and Shaylee the Millennial began watching 13 Reasons Why, the new Netflix series that discusses teen suicide, bullying, sexual assault and other important themes. While a bit heavy, we do believe it is time we started discussing these themes more openly in this country. That includes mental health and mental illness. We do want to pass this along: the number of the national suicide hotline for those who may have these thoughts and feelings you can talk to someone at 800-273-8255 (TALK). Truta and Shaylee reviewed the show and we talked about the letter some school districts are sending home that says parents should monitors kids who watch the series in case it romanticizes suicide. We took some listener calls and then we decided to go for the happy. People started to call in with the good things happening to them. And that's a great place to end our show. See you Monday!
The second day of the week and Shayles was a little tired this morning after a #MargaritaMonday out. There was a huge shake-up on Dancing With The Stars last night. American Ninja Warrior is taping in Kansas City this week and today we chat with host Kristine Leahy. She chats us up about BBQ, the contestants and the Chiefs 2017-18 schedule. Listen for her prediction for this year...hopefully we're playing it back in February. After a successful first run the Whisper Game is back. This time with more guesses and some terrible play on Truta's part. Shaylee takes us behind the scenes with All Access. Truta's daughter lost her iPod and he's teetering on the edge of buying another one. There's still hope someone either found it or took it and may return it. Although Rick Conkling has a story about finding an iPhone in Overland Park, taking it home before he returned it and being charged with a crime!!! OP police cited him for taking misplaced property. What a start to the week on #TheShowKC... first off, after only 9 days, Truta had to come in and admit this morning that Adi had lost her iPod over the weekend. She left it at Walmart. For those catching up, she wanted a phone for her (7th) birthday and got an iPod instead. Well, that didn't turn out so hot. Fun #TheShowKC today! First, Truta's better half celebrated her birthday yesterday and he made dinner. When Jen and Shaylee pressed Truta on what he made he was very proud of spaghetti. According to him, it was the first time he'd ever made spaghetti. Well, that got Jen. She felt like EVERYONE should know how to cook spaghetti. And it got worse when Truta admitted he learned how to cook from YouTube. He's not alone - check out the things our listeners learned from a video. It's been such a fun, exhausting week on #TheShowKC we decided to wrap a bunch of the best stuff up in one big package! A feud is brewing in the @SportingKC locker room and #TheShowKC is right in the middle of it! On yesterday's Show, midfielder Roger Espinoza, when asked to name the dirtiest person in the locker room, threw down @IkeOpara's name. This didn't sit well with Opara, a Man of the People as his teammates call him. In the interest of fairness and equal time, The Show extended an offer to Opara to come on today and refute Roger's claims, which he does vociferously -- in addition to throwing Erik Palmer-Brown under the bus. Severe weather struck the Kansas City area Monday night, bringing hail, severe rain and tornadoes that caused destruction across parts of Oak Grove, Grain Valley and Odessa. #TheShowKC talked with some listeners this morning who had damage at their house or lost power. Jen's Impossible Question for the day taught us something about Truta and his dog that we didn't necessarily need to find out. Jen has become a huge fan of Chance the Rapper - but can't name a song he sings...or raps....or whatever. We get the scoop on your storm experiences from last night. One woman's friend used the hail as ice for his whiskey. Hey, whatever works! We talk to Erin Dietrich, who made a parody video of April the Giraffe. Erin is 39 weeks pregnant and got 25 million (!) views of her parading her pregnant belly around her bedroom while wearing a giraffe head. April the giraffe has taken the online world by storm, with probably millions of people glued to a live webcam of a giraffe about to give birth. Of course, that didn't stop the gang from starting a pool to guess when the baby would be born. Jen's impossible question led us into a bigger discussion about doing your own dental work. After Entertainment News we took calls from people who have done their own stitches, pulled their own teeth, or basically performed surgery on themselves. We give away tickets to JoJo at Liberty Hall in Lawrence with a round of "What Made Us Cry." We all have weird OCD quirks - Jen's usually has to do with the number of social media followers we have. The most mind blowing fact came in the Entertainment News, when Jen told us that Nicole Kidman almost married Lenny Kravitz! What??? Where did that come from? We talk scams after an Overland Park man gave nearly $200k to a girlfriend in Salina, KS. A few listeners reported the scams that have been after their paychecks. Beyonce is pregnant, which is awesome, but her picture that accompanied the announcement was downright weird! There are a few artists skipping the Grammys this year - Drake, Kanye and Justin Bieber. Will anyone miss them? The Bachelor was as good as ever. A new survey says ONLY 38% of women consider their husband sexy; ladies called to answer this: My husband is sexy when he _______. The Hillary Clinton body double has a lot of time on her hands. Another survey says 37% of married women regret taking their husbands' last name. We got calls from some of the more embarrassing new names after marriage. One of our new shows to watch is Tattoo Girls on TLC. It focuses on the Ink Ink shop in Springfield, Missouri, owned by Kelsey, whom we talked to on The Show. Listen as she talks about playing Mom to the girls in the store, how she got into tattoos and the things she won't do on someone's body. John Mayer is coming to Sprint Center in April and we have tickets before you can buy them. The SAG Awards were last night and there were all sorts of awesome speeches. It is Super Bowl week...we love the prop bets! Joel Goedken and his family appear on a new episode of Family Feud (airing 1/30 at 3:30p on FOX 4). Joel came in to talk about the process of auditioning, Steve Harvey, and more. We also got Joel to stick around and play a round of the Accent Game with us as well. Very big news dropped over the weekend...Hamilton is coming to Kansas City! In a few years...and it will be a tougher ticket than Bruno Mars! Truta saw "A Dog's Purpose" last night with Adi and pretty much cried his eyes out while the 6 year old asked him to pass the Snickers. On the heels of their record-tying Oscar nominations, Jen found us someone from La La Land to talk to - he's the guy credited as "Coffee Spiller." This will be followed by the craft services girl from "Hidden Figures" and the boom mic operator from "Fences." Eric the Security Guard told us that his ex sent him a birthday text this morning, leading us to ask Who is Friends with Their Ex? Good stories. Since Shaylee isn't here we pulled in new producer Joey to play (don't tell Shaylee, but he knows a BUNCH more). There's a new commercial that says real men play with Barbies, encouraging dads to play girly stuff with their daughters. Truta's daughter just likes to play Firehouse Subs. Don't ask. Finally, singer Natasha Bedingfield called in to The Show, talking about her July 3rd concert with Train at Starlight Theater. She also talked big booties, failed selfies and writing a song as a birthday present.

A somber #TheShowKC today, after the news broke on Sunday that Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura had been involved in a fatal car crash in the Dominican Republic. After thoughts from the crew, Royals VP/Public Relations Toby Cook called in to share his thoughts on the young ace, the plans for this weekend's Fan Fest, and the ongoing tributes to this rising star. Then, Jill Meyer called us to tell us about her daughter Amelia. The day before her 9th birthday, Amelia had a photo shoot with Yordano as part of a charity calendar. Just a couple of years before, Amelia had been diagnosed with brain cancer. Her meeting with the "Ace" was a happy one and the two bonded. Amelia passed away in October last year and Yordano this weekend. A baseball signed by the pitcher is just part of the tangible memories her mom Jill has. Welcome to a new year of #TheShowKC! The gang was ready to fire after a nice, long vacation from the air. The #Chiefs are going to the Playoffs! Not only that, but we get a first round bye and get to play at Arrowhead! Happy New Year to all. The Show discussed Mariah Carey's meltdown during the New Year's Rockin' Eve show. Carey's camp maintains her monitors did not work, which did not allow her to hear the songs playing and thus did not allow her to perform. The producers said it was Carey's lack of preparation which led to the lackluster performance. Either way, Truta found out there was an alternate New Year's universe where Pitbull, Coolio, Snoop Dogg and Biz Markie shared a stage. Whaa??? We check in with listener Kimberly who was about ready to pop out a baby before The Show's live Christmas party. She finally had little Molly Noel this past week. Mom and baby are doing great! Our friend Andrew Carter from @KCTV5 stopped by to talk about his big holiday news: he got engaged! As with any complex plan, there was the requisite amount of improv to go along with it. Plus, Andrew stayed on to talk about the Chiefs playoff chances as well as a little college basketball. Sticking with the Chiefs topic, there's a guy who bought Super Bowl tickets back before the season began, not knowing if the Chiefs would even get close. John Michaels chatted us up about why he bought seats so early and his plans for Houston. More Mariah Carey talk and we school Shaylee on exactly who is Biz Markie. What a #TheShowKC today! Our morning had to begin with the sad news that TV star, actor, writer, singer, composer Alan Thicke had passed away the previous night. The gang had good memories of the show Growing Pains and Truta even got to interview Thicke one time in Hollywood. Jen and Truta got to see Rogue One on Monday and had some spoiler-free thoughts about it. Then the subject turned to tipping. There is a Facebook post going around that comes from a man who says you will receive the best service ever if you just put 5 dollar bills on the table before you eat, signalling the tip. Then, if anything goes wrong with the wait staff, you deduct a dollar for each mistake, with the money left on table acting as the final tip. We asked you, what do you think of that as a tipping practice? Then, the Holiday Tipping Guide came out and we ran down the people to whom you should be giving a "Christmas bonus." Listen and find out how much your hairdresser is going to make this holiday! We get in a game of Getting To Know You where we talk tattoos. Of course Shaylee had a celebrity design hers. Yesterday Shaylee told us that the security guard at our building offered her "Molly" (aka - drugs). Today we found out it was a big miscommunication and a total "Who's On First" situation. In today's edition, we talk to Larry Bigus, Executive Director of the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. While this organization has been around for decades, this may be the first you hear of it. The Christmas Bureau is in the middle of their busy time because, as the name implies, they make the season a better one for the less fortunate in a locale where people poverty couldn't exist. In the second half of the show, filmmaker Rob Lehr talks about his documentary, Thunderdome, screening today at Screenland Armour as part of the Arts and Crafts Festival. Lehr was involved in a plane crash that caused him to suffer from PTSD. He turned to painting and then nerf gun fights to deal with his depression and pain. In his backyard he built the Thunderdome - a nerf fighting arena with obstacles, sniper towers and more. Learn about the man behind the movie in today's KC Closeup.
So it was happenstance that #TheShowKC came upon a band from Kansas City who loved Christmas music as much as they did. That band is The Snow Globes. Rick, Lindsey, and Barclay. This year The Snow Globes are releasing their 4th studio album and will have shows upcoming at Christ Church and the Living Room Theater. Today the group stopped by the studio to play a few songs and talk about the charity aspect behind their music, perfect for this #GivingTuesday
A couple of weeks ago #TheShowKC talked to Grain Valley director of bands, Reid Atkinson, along with a few students about their upcoming trip to New York City to perform on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Well, the trip was a huge success. In addition to wowing the parade-goers, the Marching Eagles were asked to revive a Today Show tradition of having a band march through the set during the live morning program. Today we followed up with Reid about the trip and to get the scoop on everything that happened in the Big Apple.
What a HUGE #TheShowKC Thanksgiving Special today! First, we checked in with listeners all over Kansas City as to where they are traveling for the weekend. We have friends of the show going to Orlando, Raleigh, Minneapolis, Illinois and even Licking, Missouri! Jen won The Show's Dancing With The Stars draft. Kanye has been hospitalized. What state has the fastest speed limits? Whatever it is, you don't want to speed through Iowa. Kansas City, MO Mayor Sly James joined us in studio for a full half hour to talk about the Mayor's Christmas Tree and the Fund to help our neighbors. We also chatted about football, the streetcar, becoming a nice society, what's ahead for KC and how never gets to go to the movies. Finally, Olympic gold medalist and Blue Valley North grad Jack Sock stopped by - along with his gold medals - to talk about flipping the switch to turn on the Plaza Lights. The Show chose their winner of the American Music Awards trip to Hollywood and she was our best of all time. Cindy and her husband, Mark, are so excited to go! She can't wait to see Sting. Travis Kelce drew the ire of officials during this weekend's Chiefs game by throwing his towel at the ref. Kelce is known for "hitting the quan" after a touchdown, so Truta attempts this dance move. Later on in the show he even watches a tutorial from YouTube. This doesn't help, but it sure does make good video (make sure to check them out on our Facebook and Twitter pages!). The Cubs visited SNL. Tomorrow is Election Day (thank goodness!). A list of the biggest lies spouses tell each other. The Show wants to do the Mannequin Challenge.
From #TheShowKC on Friday: the Cubs are having their victory parade today and millions of people are expected in Grant Park. The TV ratings are in for the World Series Game 7 and Kansas City had the largest audience outside of Chicago and Cleveland. We really love our baseball here! Shaylee is in early to see comedian Colin Kane. Jen is having trouble with people stealing from her at work. We have a K Cup maker in the studio and Jen lives on her morning coffee. Sometime between Natalie's show last night and 5am today, someone ripped open a new box of K Cup coffees and stole most of them. What have you had stolen from you at work? Great listener calls here. There is all sorts of folklore surrounding the Cubs win in the World Series, some of which made us cry. Truta played audio of a guy who cracked open a beer he'd been saving for 32 years to drink when Chicago won it all. We're sure it was skunky. Also, there are many reports of people predicting the win - a guy in his 1993 yearbook said so - and Truta played audio from a 2015 episode of Parks and Recreation set in the year 2017 where they talk about the Cubs winning the Series. Next, Truta survey time. This morning it was the best cartoon theme songs of all time. Comedian Colin Kane came by and we could play about 52 seconds of his appearance. Shaylee still had to pay up for choosing Ryan Lochte in The Show's Dancing With The Stars draft. There will be a big Chiefs game this weekend and most of the players are out with injuries. Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win! After an amazing World Series, the Cubbies finally took home the crown! Ben Zobrist was the hero (especially amongst us Kansas Citians) for his game-winning double and was awarded the MVP. We try and reach our sports analyst, Andrew Carter from KCTV 5, but he was probably sleeping somewhere strange after a wild night in Wrigleyville. Everyone on #TheShowKC picked a song for the weekly Throwback Throwdown...and Truta picked the girliest song of everyone! Jen has a couple of the original seats from old Wrigley field. Her husband's family picked them up in the 70's when the club renovated the stadium. What weird stuff do you have in your collection? Happy Halloween from #TheShowKC! Off the top of the show, everyone dazzled in their costumes (just look at the pictures!). There was Truta as Ken Bone, the debate guy. Shaylee was Minnie Mouse AND helped to dress Jen as a large giraffe beanie baby complete with name tag. You will hear early that Jen got so hot she had to take her pants off. Yikes! It was revealed that this would be a day of surprises and the first did not disappoint: we would be talking to the REAL Ken Bone! So, that happened. Jen takes Truta and Shaylee to task for the Face Your Fears Friday ideas they never pulled off. Truta argued they were just concepts, not actual plans (fake heart attack, anyone?). Renee from Leawood was crowned the winner of the Six Degrees of The Show contest. Renee got Drew Scott from Property Brothers on @HGTV to call-in. With the win, Renee gets over $1,300 worth of Kitchen Aid appliances, and she is donating them to A Child's Hope, a charity to help foster kids. The Show talked to Renee AND, for those who missed it, revisits our call with Drew Scott. The megaphone makes a return as a karaoke tool AND the millennial translator. The girls laugh about a sign that was posted in our bathroom at work. And Truta saw something at the Chiefs game that blew his mind...a self-driving car??
From Friday's #TheShowKC: fall is here with a vengeance (for now). Stephen Baldwin is not amused by his brother's Trump impersonation. Jen accidentally dropped an "I love you" on our building's security guard. We took calls from people who have said "I love you" to someone out of habit. The Millennial Translator was back (in the form of Truta's bullhorn). People felt like things sound cooler when said through a megaphone, so Truta gave some shout-outs to local high schools and a couple of birthdays. Truta got Jen and Shaylee to play a game of "How Does The Story End" about a news anchor in Florida who became....well, just listen. Things got a little loopy on #TheShowKC today...partly because Jen is hopped up on pain meds for her kidney pain. We did manage to get through all of the big headlines from over the weekend: the Chiefs big win in Oakland yesterday, the Cubbies one-run loss, the continuing Trumpster-fire and accompanying SNL laughfest. It was race weekend in KC and our favorite Uber driver, Jeff, called in with a story about picking up Jeff Burton and taking him to Top Golf. Truta found a story that said moms are more stressed out while dads just hang out and have fun. We definitely had some moms unload -- and even got a hard-working dad to chime in with his input!
Sue Vicoey is the co-founder of My Power of One and a force for good in the world. Sue has produced films about the homeless and other humanitarian causes. She and her husband recently embarked on a year-long road trip that involved various acts of kindness and mercy. A couple of years ago, Sue started an apparel company to help spread her message of empowerment. Right now she has a few specials that will assist victims of Hurricane Matthew. Kent coached a baseball team in Iowa and became the real-life inspiration for the movie The Final Season starring Sean Astin. Then, comedian Steve Hytner stopped by to talk about his time on Seinfeld, Zack & Cody and even clowns, which made Shaylee sad. Finally, one of the Property Brothers, Drew Scott of HGTV fame, called in for listener Renee as her Six Degrees entrant. That ended the show on a good note! Today is a special day at KC Closeup as we celebrate Head for the Cure day in Kansas City. The 5k is happening today at Corporate Woods in Overland Park. On today's show we hear from two more people whose lives were touched by brain tumors or brain cancer. Tim Elliott is a lawyer who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008. Patti Simmons' adopted son, Brecken, had his tumor discovered in 2015. Both have teams participating in today's race to raise awareness for brain cancer research. Then we switch gears to another part of the body and chat with Kari Lorenzen, a race director for the Get Your Rear In Gear 5k, to be held September 11th at Zona Rosa as a benefit for colon cancer research. Kari's major message is for everyone to get screened for colon cancer, which is the second deadliest form of cancer yet has a 90%+ survival rate if diagnosed in time.

The movie follows Fujita's friend and fellow NFL alumn Steve Gleason, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. Employees at our parent company received a peculiar e-mail a few nights ago about a not-uncommon scenario around the radio station: someone had taken bottles of water belonging to another person and drank them.
