I'm super excited to show off this guest for a few reasons. First of all, this person is a heart-centred personal and business development coach. This person also has a background in athletics and hospitality and resort management, is a motivational speaker and they've also hosted their own TV show, which I'm sure we'll talk about shortly. But most excitingly, this person is our very first dude on the show.In this episode of The Recovering Perfectionist podcast, I chat with James Gardiner - the VERY FIRST dude interviewee on the show!We talk aboutJames focuses his coaching on understanding personality, brand DNA, how to create a strategy and implement said strategy, and positioning. He sees over and over again that if there's a misalignment between a person's truth and how they're showing up, it will manifest itself in business guaranteed! Some core ideas we discuss:* The importance of having boundaries and showing up authentically and being honest about what you want and how you want to live and who you do and don't work with. * You have to roll up your sleeves and do the deep work, right? You need to get in the trenches, and it's to get to really unpack the truth to get to your real truth. And in business or in or in life. You have to roll up your sleeves and dive in. You know. And the reward is magic. Yes, it's brilliant when you get it * Everything is a work in progress? It's not like, 'ok we've done that work now we can move on with the rest of our life and never talk about it again". * The middle lane analogy: And so that middle lane will always evolve as we evolve. And what we need to do is just adjust the scope of the lane as we move forward in life. And as we attract new business associates or venture out or go into relationships, you know, it ultimately has to serve us. * Once we get crystal clear on on what it is we want the 'how' will become clear too * Practicing failure on whatever scale you can. Learning that you can ask for something and be rejected...and no one's going to die. And it's going to be okay. * The idea about being magnetic, which means you're also going to be repellent. And the more repellent you are to certain people, the more attractive you are, to the right people - whether it's friends, relationships, business, network, clients - but it's really scary to take that first step to be, you know, not all things to all people. * There's a lot of males out there that are in this kind of purgatory - they want to be more emotionally accessible and they walk that fine line between the bro club and having really heartfelt discussions or being vulnerable * Showing up as the TRUE YOU in whatever situation (whether in an interview, whether on stage, whether in a Starbucks, or at the gym, having a beer with a friend etc.) * Being a conscious warrior - going all in with * The difference between being a 'recovering perfectionist' and being amazing at what you do * External validation and how to stop seeking it

Advice from a non-perfectionist who coaches a LOT of perfectionists! How perfectionism is fear in a fur coat and fear stops you moving forward.Jenny Cole is an Executive Coach, Consultant & Cheerleader⁃ Jenny is a Recovering Principal who worked in education for a long time but burned out trying to do too many things at once⁃ She coaches women who are perfectionist but has never identified herself as one⁃ Women are often juggling so much - careers, caring for families, very busy etc⁃ She was curious about perfectionism⁃ Perfectionism is ‘Fear in a Fur Coat’ - women who are perfectionist are frightened⁃ Imposter syndrome: we're so afraid of making a mistake and of 'being caught out'⁃ We gloss over this fear with beauty and order and doing⁃ Social Media perfectionism is its own issue⁃ The concern is that some women attach self-worth to the quality of what they do - everything they do has to be 100% perfect⁃ Anxiety, being too busy, and procrastination, lack of confidence⁃ Turn our thoughts into action⁃ If we think it has to be perfect, we put it off or it takes too much time, we won’t take risks, we won’t do something if we can’t do it perfectly⁃ All behaviour is learned - if you try and squash your perfectionism, it will show up somewhere else⁃ Give yourself tiny little new behaviours⁃ Catching the thoughts in your head - tell a different story⁃ Accountability buddy⁃ perfectionism naturally builds failure⁃ lower the barJoin The Recovering PerfectionistsAbout JennyI am a busy professional woman. After finishing her studies, Honor had an opportunity to work with women who had Post-Natal Depression* Then at around the age of 30 she experienced burnout and all she was offered was medication * She went on her own healing journey and uncovered her perfectionism and how it was manifesting * Perfectionism comes from the way we’re parented and also the way we’re socialised to be the good girl, be polite, be neat etc. * There’s a lot of pressure to fit into these roles and when we step outside of these roles, we don’t really know what to do with ourselves * Mini goals - break down the big goals into tiny steps and just focus on one at a time * 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing * Grab Honor’s free Perfection eBook

Habits - taking small sustainable action (breaking big goals down into sustainable stepsINTROSuzanne Culberg is a weight loss coach who doesn’t do weigh-ins! She helps women press the reset button on their life, establish new habits and chunk down their goals into doable bite-sized parts so they can feel good about the progress they are making.* Suzanne had 2 kids and a FIFO husband when she decided to enter online business in the weight release area * She was still 150kg but really wanted to know what was actually going on, beyond the calories in and out * We understand habits as an adult, such as brushing our teeth or having a shower * When we go to make a change, we compare ourselves to what we want and it’s too big of a jump * If we discount the power of small steps, we set ourselves up for failure * Choose a minimum baseline - 5 minutes, 3 days a week - it’s about consistency, sustainable and habit rather than outcomes * Celebrate what you're achieving as you're achieving it! * Everybody is different - when we’re feeling motivated to make a change, it’s easier to do stuff so we pick too many * The process is more important than the outcome * Add things in, don’t cut more out * Don’t wait for motivation… be a GPS - where do you want to go (not away from)

Brooke fell into Bookkeeping and then woke up a few years ago and realised she wasn’t happy, despite looks on the outside. She was halfway through her life and didn’t want to be on autopilot any more. There’s a lot of talk about being in alignment and being your authentic self. After completing training with the Institute of Intuitive Intelligence, she thought bookkeeping was behind her - but now realises that she has so much positive change to bring to this industry and the people who work with bookkeepers.Key points from our conversation:1. Work out what you actually are (and not being what you need to be for everyone else) 2. Familiarity vs courage 3. Start saying ‘no' and set boundaries that work for you 4. Walk away from what is no longer serving you 5. 1. There’s a ripple effect when you start living in alignment - how important your high vibe is - it streams across the whole family atmosphere 6. Know that you have a choice to change your life - it’s simple but not easy 7. Encourage everyone to get in touch - stillness, silence, solitude… we don’t give ourselves times to hear what’s actually going on 8. Drop down out of your head and into your heart

Now she’s a book coach and works with people to write their books which helps people to understand more about their modality and craft⁃ One beautiful autumn morning she wanted to go for a run (or do something that felt good for her heart)… but her head was saying ‘what sort of serious business woman goes for a run when they should be working..?'⁃ Believing, as many of us do, that 'THEY will know that you’re not serious about your business’⁃ She found so many excuses and never ended up going for a run⁃ Then 24 hours later, she actually gave herself permission to go for a run… she realised that she had nothing to prove and nothing to defend to anyone⁃ Surrender and trust that you can write your book⁃ Surrender what is not in your control⁃ Write down on paper - real reasons - what’s in it for YOU and for your readers⁃ Top tips⁃ Structure before creativity (your creativity needs structure to thrive). Anyone who's ever spoken to me probably knows of my intellectual affair with Lisa Murray (Lisa doesn't know it, but I am eternally in her debt for opening my eyes to the beauty of energy, play and intuition in my business). Lisa's spoken at my monthly event and we rub shoulders in the online and real life world in some of the circles we know and love.

I met Karen at a recent speaking event I went to in Brisbane. I was a little awe-struck in a kind of 'I want to be like you when I grow up' kind of way. A naturally charismatic, eloquent and interesting woman - and a bloody good speaker - I giggled like a schoolgirl when she said to me 'it's like I'm talking to myself ten years ago' (at least thats what I did later on in my car when no one could see or hear me). Epic compliment.
"Oh, you still just work in a shop?" and a million other asinine questions non-retailers ask people who work in retail after ago 17. People are loving the show but also asking for more of moi!
I have long been a complete #fangirl of Trish Everett’s. From following her around on social media, to casual Skype chats about one thing or another, I lap up pretty much everything she put out into the world. In early 2016, my husby and I completed her signature program, Sweet Talk - an online couple’s communication course LIKE NO OTHER. When you do a communication course, you expect to ‘learn’ about open language, body talk and active listening. Sweet Talk was SO MUCH MORE. Anyone who’s ever spoken to me for more than 5 minutes will probably have heard me wax lyrical about Trish and Sweet Talk and the immensely deep shifts I felt during and since the course. Trish took us through processes to uncover our relationship styles (eek), our behaviour (double eek) and our needs (eeeeeeek!) and one of my biggest takeaways was about Personal Responsibility… that is:- Owning your own stuff- Not owning everyone else’s- Standing in and honouring your own truth- “I am powerful” (not just responsible)- The Cereal Bowl of Doom- Setting boundaries, moving them and respecting others’- What actually ARE my needs- How do I communicate my needs- How can I meet my own needs- Why do I ‘have to’ do this- Who am I doing all this for?
Trudi is such an incredible ball of energy, confidence and interesting information, I couldn't wait to chat with her. When she contacted me a few weeks ago, with some ideas for the show, I was so excited!
Karen is on a mission to remove the stigma and taboo from intuition. We had the most incredible conversation about my intuitive journey (which I literally haven't even packed the bags for, I'm so close to the beginning).

I've had a serious BIZ CRUSH on Swapna since I first came across this Queen of Content! She's diverse, she's clever, she's great fun and does business HER WAY!
Since I worked in the corporate world, for a management consulting firm, I've been obsessed with Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), a personality typing tool. When I first found out about it, it really helped me to get my head around, not only my own preferences and behaviours, but also those of people around me and how best we might work together.
I absolutely LOVE Anna's no-B.S. approach to raw and real parenting, nurturing your children AS WELL AS yourself and the space she holds for mothers to own their struggles, their wins and whatever is going on for them at the moment.
Emma was one of the first people I had anything to do with in the online business world. Early on, her 7-day challenge helped me articulate my brand, my message and my client charter (in was sexier terms than that) and just this basic interaction was inspirational - the little extras she offered were nurturing, creative and personal.
The first time Lisa and I chatted - a fifteen minute call turned into an hour and we could have carried on for hours! I was totally intrigued by Lisa's impressive history and we totally bonded over some personal stuff, including 'The Motherhood Thing' and what that had meant for each of us...
Jasmine and I totally geek out over online tools and systems, and this episode is no different... I thought I was pretty tech-savvy... and then I met Jasmine.. This woman takes it to the next level... cray cray and endless possibilities... I just want to hand her the keys to my biz systems and tell her to wake me up when it's done...

We planned to talk about events... what we actually talked about was soooo much more...

"God I wish I worked with you when I first started my business" is the eternal mutters from my mouth to Ale. We have done some AWESOME sessions together which have refined and clarified my ideal client, my client journey and how it all intertwines with my values and beliefs... She's incredible at what she does, with a very impressive career and life history.. she tells us
