On this episode of More Than Therapy, Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI has a discussion with Hannah Spanke.
Hannah Spanke, the host of F**k Yourself Happy, is introducing a special edition of the show that will focus on her personal experience in the sex industry. She has been a sex worker of many different types for nearly a decade, and she wants to provide an honest and complete tell-all about her journey in the industry. She starts off with a fair trigger warning for those who might find the subject matter uncomfortable and then dives into a recap of her journey, starting from the beginning and continuing until now. Sex work is one of the oldest industries in the world and yet it is often assumed that it is something one would only do out of desperation. This assumption is pervasive, and yet, people are fascinated by it. There is a dichotomy between how people view sex work and how they actually consume it. People have a natural understanding that it is not something someone would choose for themselves, but it is something people are drawn to and engage with in some capacity. It is both intriguing and taboo. This conversation is about the idea that people are quick to be interested when it comes to somebody else's story, but they rarely consider it when it comes to themselves. The speaker then goes on to briefly explain their childhood, which included a mother who struggled with drug addiction and a father who was a single dad from the time the speaker was five years old. The speaker then emphasizes how their father was their main influence and how they now understand that everyone is doing the best that they can with what they have. The speaker reflects on their experience growing up with an emotionally unavailable father and how this affected their development. They recall a particular experience when they were nine years old and had a sit-down conversation with their father. This conversation had a lasting impact on their understanding of the world and their identity. They recognize that the stoic and toxic masculine model their father presented was not the ideal role model for them and that it led to trauma and dysfunction. They emphasize the importance of having a positive role model in order to foster healthy development and understanding.

On this episode of More Than Therapy, Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI, interviews Jacquie, who states:
"What if I told you that you may be living with an emotional abuser and that it might be you? Abusive Brain Chatter is that voice in your head that acts as a bully to keep you from taking risks or becoming who you were meant to be. We'll learn the ABCs of Abusive Brain Chatter from our guest, who is a life coach and writing a book on the subject."

NAME: Healing Abusive Brain Chatter, How She Left Her Emotional Abuser with Jacquie ElliottDATE: 2023-02-02--------------------------------------------------SUMMARY:Mrs. Elliot is a life, spiritual and relationship coach who specializes in helping people explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences in order to gain self-understanding and awareness. On this episode of the Mortar Therapy Podcast, she speaks about abusive brain chatter, and whether or not one can be standing with an emotional abuser, or if they themselves are the emotional abuser based on their abusive brain chatter. Mrs. Elliot explains that the mind is a very interesting thing, and one must be mindful of what they tell it. She then introduces her ABC program, which is an innovative way to address trauma, especially emotional trauma. It is designed to help people recognize their negative self-talk and work on replacing it with positive affirmations. The program focuses on building self-compassion and understanding, as well as developing a healthier relationship with oneself. Ultimately, it helps individuals take control of their own minds and emotions to achieve a more balanced state of mind. The speaker used to talk to themselves with negative thoughts that were learned from their parents and school. One day, they were in bed with a remote control in one hand and a box of Frosted Miniwheats in the other, watching TV and binge eating. They realized at that moment that they needed to start a journey of self-healing and growth. Through twelve Step programs and the help of a spiritual center, the speaker was able to be kinder to themselves, make amends with themselves, and ultimately open a successful business that they were able to sell. The speaker is a life and spiritual coach who helps people overcome negative thoughts and feelings that are holding them back from reaching their goals. As part of her work, she has looked into the amount of thoughts people have each day and found that 80% of them are negative. She has made it her life's work to help people combat this negative brain chatter and find a more loving and understanding voice within themselves. She believes that until people can access that higher power, they won't be able to make the changes they want to in their lives. The speaker was discussing how the realization that the negative self-talk they were using was a form of emotional abuse was a pivotal moment in their life. They defined emotional abuse as bullying and belittling oneself, as well as dismissing compliments and negatively commenting on one's looks. They then highlighted the importance of awareness, writing down one's self-talk, and then believing in a higher power to be able to cure the brain chatter. They shared how they needed to rely on a higher power on their own journey, and how they got on their knees and asked for help.--------------------------------------------------TIMESTAMPS: 0:00:--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/morethantherapy/message

Spirituality and religion often provide a sense of security and social structure and those beliefs can be a strong coping mechanism through trying times. Being an active member of a close-knit religious community can provide structure, support and sense of acceptance, all of which are beneficial to mental health.
Lack of spirituality can interfere with interpersonal relationships, which can contribute to the genesis of psychiatric disturbance. Psychiatric symptoms can have a religious content. For example, the loss of interest in religious activities is a common symptom of depression.

Sam says "I'm a passionate coach, consultant, speaker and facilitator who comes alive in service of those who live to serve others. My practice serves mission driven leaders, healers and helpers in their work to heal the world without harming themselves. Since 2013 I've coached, taught and consulted with leaders and healers in community clinics, acute care hospitals, mental health programs and a pandemic response center on their path toward elevated impact greater fulfillment, and enhanced wellbeing for themselves, their teams, and the people they serve.""As a mission-motivated empath, a first generation college graduate, and the child of two beautiful and complicated humans who left home in their early teens and survived by the skin of their teeth, I've always had a deep sense that my purpose was to be of service to others. Thanks to my own experiences of perfectionism, inherited beliefs from my parents that life has to be hard to be meaningful, internal pressure to make something beautiful from the hardship they experienced, and naturalized norms of burnout just being "part of the job" in mission-driven work, I'm all too familiar with the struggle between being a whole and happy human and having the impact we feel we're meant to have in the world. My clients are walking a similar path. They are leaders, healers and helpers who get out of bed in the morning to be of service to others and have unwittingly eroded their own thriving in the process. I know that it’s my calling to coach mission-driven leaders like me in health care and the caring professions. Though the social impact sector is infamous for cultures that normalize privileging everyone else’s needs above our own and valorizing burnout as a sign of mission commitment, our mission can only endure as long as our own wellbeing does. The COVID crisis and the resulting impacts on both our mental and emotional health have forced us to recognize that supporting resilience is literally a matter of life and death. We can’t afford to consider investing in our own growth and thriving a luxury for when times are stable. Without it, we operate completely from the toxic combination of our self limiting beliefs and unconscious unhelpful habits, harming our own wellbeing, the wellbeing of those who look to us, and our ability to effectively serve our community. Both our individual wellbeing and our effectiveness as leaders HAS to start with us leading ourselves. This is the wild, messy, exhilarating and invaluable work of balancing our being with our doing. This is work I'm committed to doing for myself. And this phase of my life is about helping mission-driven leaders, healers, helpers, and the organizations they work in do the same.Mission doesn't need to mean martyrdom. Helping doesn't have to hurt."#burnout #lifecoach #mentalhealth #wellness #recoveryhttps://samshapirocoaching.comHosted by Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI of The More Than Therapy Podcast located at 201 W Main Street Suite 316, Durham, NC 27701.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/morethantherapy/message
"As someone who was caught in a cycle of abuse with someone who had an ICE addiction who lost the plot at one point and things became life-threatening for myself and for my children, so I am no stranger to this topic. Three things I advocate for on my podcast are for women to put their safety, sanity and well-being first by tapping into the right support to remind them that everything can be figure-out-able no matter how complex the challenges are that they are going through. Although my wake-up call came that I possessed the keys I needed to be free from a domestic violence situation, people fall victim to all sorts of destructive cycles that ultimately hold them back and stop them from moving forward and achieving their hopes and dreams. It is easy for us to become victims to all sorts... victims of circumstance, victims to oppression, victims to abuse, victims to substance abuse, victims to self-sabotage. For me what I discovered is that under the layers of being a victim, whether it was to someone else, something else or by my own limiting beliefs, I ultimately held the keys that I needed to be set free." - Sandy Johnston

I was determined to overcome my anxiety, depression and to finally live the life I'd always dreamed of.
Years later, I now host a podcast that impacts hundreds of thousands of people in countries all over the world.
At this stage, I've helped grow the podcast into a multi six-figure business, and I've recorded well over 1,000 episodes.
I've also given hundreds of speeches, trainings and coaching calls with people all over the world.
The main thing that changed was ME.
I focused on learning what I didn't know (unlearning a lot too), and my life started to shift.
I love talking about Consistency, Commitment, Habits, Mindset, Confidence, Fear, Relationships, Limiting Beliefs and everything in between.
I believe in a heart-driven but NO BS approach to holistic self improvement, and I look forward to teaching even more people about what it really takes to get to the next level!

David R. Edwards worked his way through school eventually achieving a BA in Business and MBA in Healthcare Administration. He served mostly lower income people on 3 continents over the last 35 years and is familiar with the challenges and unfairness of life. In 2018 while working with doctors, dentists, counselors, and community health workers he had an epiphany. The core challenge most people have is to generate the personal drive to direct their own life, enduring principles to guide, and the most current science-based tools to assist them through a bumpy and messy life. His first book “New You! Who Knew?” is an attempt to put in writing an easy to digest and implement guide that builds confidence, esteem, and self-compassion in balance.

"We know that trauma is stored in the body, but how do we begin to build awareness around what that looks like as it shows up in different ways? In this talk, Brenda Hershey will elaborate on the signs and symptoms and break down the science behind why mind-body methods for recovery and resilience are ESSENTIAL. Furthermore, she’ll share integrative tools to strengthen the mind-body connection to foster a sense of safety and security in one’s body again, which is often lost when dissociating and numbing out."

"As a licensed therapist, I have spent my entire career focused on Care Partner's and our Elders. It is one of the most challenging path's for an individual, getting close to mortality and saying goodbye to loved ones. That being said, it is an opportunity for deep growth and our society does not give enough emphasis to this emotional journey. I want to bring it forward in conversation as an effort to respect our Elders. Plus, we have specific skills and knowledge that will allow each individual to support the caregivers in their lives. I work with Caregiver's themselves individually, as a family, and through a group program. I also train fellow professionals who may not have this training as part of their education but it shows up in their client caseloads or in their employees. The number of people who will be Elders is growing and I want us to be as prepared to support those caring for them as possible. Caregiving impacts everyone - grandkids, adult children, spouses employees, and professionals. I bet you already have a caregiver in your life!"

Ann has developed the ability to sense inside her body, and release physical tension stored in her connective tissue, using solely the focus of her mind. She has x-rays to show the physical changes resulting from this inner work - including changing the alignment of her eye sockets, the straightening of her neck, the centering of her lower jaw, and the growth of her tooth roots. She has also grown 1/2 an inch at the age of 55.
Ann wants us all to know that we have this incredible power within us, it just takes going further with practices that you may already be doing.
As many of you may know, changing what is on our inside, changes what we see on the outside, so it is Ann's belief that we can not only change our personal world, but also our collective world.
Ann has a YouTube channel where she shares her journey, explains the connection between the physical and the spiritual, and will be posting videos of how to change the pressing issues of our time. Her book, A Pathway to Insight, details her journey and breaks down the steps she took to attain what she calls Insight, or the ability to see within the body.

"I held just about every job suggested for my personality type (ENFJ, Enneagram 2W3) iykyk . . . until I finally realized what I wanted to be: a therapist. (Yep, therapist is ALSO a suggested career path for this type. Playing right into the stereotype, no?)
While I knew this decision would change my professional life, I had NO idea—-let me say it again, NO idea—how much I would change and be impacted by this journey.
While getting my M.A. in Psychology of Marriage & Family Therapy, I found a wealth of knowledge that I so desperately needed in my own life. I was married to a man that I loved and truly adored. But there were some really hard, confusing, sad parts of our relationship we just couldn’t seem to figure out. I felt helpless to fix it and needed help knowing even where to start. I was beginning to lose hope that we could make it work.
But as I continued to study, there came so many aha moments:
Step by step, as we applied the tools and put in the work (therapy), the tears dried up, our intimacy grew, and the laughter returned!
I joke that my master’s degree saved my marriage--but it’s not so far from the truth. . .
And now that I’ve seen that this stuff works—I want to share it! I just can’t keep it to myself when there are others just like us who started off saying So THIS is Love!! and now were wondering, So this is LOVE??? I wanted to share all this really helpful knowledge with others! And it needed to be hopeful, joyful, and even fun. It does not have to be as painful as many people think it has to be! (You can even learn one skill before leaving this website!)
I’m still a Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of California. But with all these stories to tell and people I wanted to impact, I created this space outside the therapy room for group programs, relationship & dating coaching, video series, workshops, and more!
When I’m not going on and on about relationship things, you can find me in the water, near the water, staring at the water, or chasing a good sunset. If you can’t find me there, I’m on a trip somewhere exploring new places and new experiences. Oh and my new obsession: pickleball!! (Don’t judge a sport by its name!) I’ll never turn down a good cup of coffee, or a good laugh with friends. . . or strangers. . . really anyone who’ll laugh with me. . ."

Felipe Blue, LCS, CSI of More Than Therapy discusses with Amy Stein about moving from surviving to thriving.
Amy’s mission is to educate and empower others to be their own best healers by reconnecting with the innate intelligence of their body with Mother Nature. Reminding themselves that they get to choose what is best for their body. Amy does this by teaching them how to re-awakening to their intuition as true healing only occurs when we address the whole package. Her approach is a mind-body-spirit one which uses the “power of the plants”, mindfulness and breath to assist you in transforming into whom you are meant to be. Her coaching calls are called Mind-Body-Spirit-Breath Sessions.

Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI of More Than Therapy discusses with Susan Jane about trusting your intuition. 🙌
Susan has spent over 35 years encouraging people to connect, develop and trust their intuition to enable them to make confident decisions in line with their true core values. “But life hasn’t been that simple. My life changed dramatically when my 20-year emotionally abusive marriage ended. I had to reconnect and rediscover who I was and what I really wanted. How do you make the right decisions in life when, for most of it, other people had made them for you? There was only one choice to make. I had to trust who I was and the decisions I was going to make. Yes, it wasn’t going to be easy and certainly not simple but it can be done once you learn to trust. My strength lies within, as I rely strongly on my intuition to guide me towards my goals in life. I have learnt to trust this power and teach others to do the same through the tools I have developed over my lifetime. It is time to enjoy your journey and start trusting in yourself."

LPC Chris and Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI discuss mental health and relationships.
Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety can influence whether someone feels able to interact and connect to others. This means that developing relationships and socializing in traditional ways can be challenging for some people.
Toxic relationships cause feelings of low self-worth, helplessness, fear, anxiety, depression, insecurity, paranoia, and even narcissism. “Toxic relationships are dangerous to your health; they will literally kill you. Stress shortens your lifespan.
Healthy relationships involve honesty, trust, respect and open communication between partners and they take effort and compromise from both people. There is no imbalance of power. Partners respect each other's independence, can make their own decisions without fear of retribution or retaliation, and share decisions.

Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI interviews...
Dr. Kelli Palfy, began her professional career working in adult and youth corrections. Here she noticed a disproportionate number of males in the prison system. As an RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) officer, she took an interest in investigating sex crimes and went on to specialize in sex crimes committed against children internationally. Here, she began to see that males were victims of sexual abuse too, and that there were very few resources available to them. She wondered if this was why so many males ended up in prison. As she combed through video evidence, she witnessed first-hand the grooming tactics commonly used by sophisticated pedophiles. After leaving the RCMP, Dr. Palfy obtained her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Alberta. She wanted to support male victims, and sought to better understand the reasons why males don’t commonly disclose sexual abuse. She is now a trained trauma therapist and public speaker on the topic of male abuse. Dr. Palfy currently runs a small private practice where she works with male survivors of sexual abuse, first responders and couples using Emotion-Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Approach, plus Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Male sexual abuse occurs more commonly among infants, youth and adults than was previously suspected. Despite knowing this, disproportionately few males seek support. Many remain silent, protect their families, and cope through isolating or numbing, themselves, misusing substances and engaging in sexual promiscuity or hypermasculinity.
ME^N TOO: UNSPOKEN TRUTHS ABOUT MALE SEXUAL ABUSE is for male survivors, their supporters and helping professionals. It is a psycho-educational book intended to support and educate the public and male survivors. In this book I discuss the different types of offenders, how they chose and groom their targets and common responses to sexual abuse. I also provide facts about parental and sibling abuse, and through the stories of 13 male sexual abuse victims I discuss what research shows about why boys and men so seldom seek support. It is written from their perspective, with the wisdom of retired police officer and psychologist, Dr. Kelli Palfy. Through their narrative accounts, Dr. Palfy offers: • Male victims - Healing through recognition of both their positions as victims and the impact of their abuse. • Parents and teachers - Strategies to identify common yet sophisticated predatory grooming tactics, plus ideas on how to better protect children from abusers. • First responders and helping professionals - information to better recognize the signs of traumatized people, examples of male abuse explaining when it began, how it was maintained and why the victims remained silent for so long. For the sake of our boys and men, discussions about male sexual abuse need to increase. Male victims need to feel safe asking for support. ME^N TOO highlights the many unique barriers boys and men face as they contemplate their road to recovery.

Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI and LPC Chris discuss therapists in relationships, the good, the bad, and the super ugly. If you’ve been asked out by a therapist, don’t run away just because you assume you’ll be overanalyzed and judged on your date. Therapists can be great romantic partners. Give therapy a chance.
Fifteen reasons to date a therapist:
Therapists are great listeners, and intentionally do so without judgement.
Therapists keep secrets. If you’re looking for someone trustworthy, a therapist is trained in confidentiality.
Therapists offer good advice and can help you make wise choices if you’re looking for input into a difficult situation.
A lot of people are in therapy. If your date is good at what he/she does, he/she has job security.
Therapists are acutely aware of emotional needs and the human condition. It’s safe to be vulnerable around them.
Therapists want to see positive change take place and are proactive when it comes to problem-solving.
Therapists are good communicators. Not only do they listen well, they help people acknowledge their own weaknesses and make healthy decisions. Game-playing and cryptic comments won’t help clients, so neither are part of their communication arsenal.
Therapists might seem like intimidating dates, but they aren’t holier-than-thou. Rather, therapists are aware of their own weaknesses, insecurities and shortcomings. You’ll soon realize that your therapist significant other could be just as confused as you are at times.
Therapists are safe and consistent. When other people have crises, they call your date for wisdom, stability and security. Others trust that he/she will be there for them even when they make poor choices or little progress.
Therapists are interesting. Instead of small talk about the weather, your date can offer interesting facts and tidbits about human behavior. Even while keeping cases confidential, therapists still have plenty of entertaining stories to share.
Therapists are available to those who need them. Your date will understand that in certain situations, it’s important to always be available. While this may be annoying for therapists’ partners, it’s encouraging to know that your therapist date is prepared to drop everything for you when times get tough.
Therapists are emotionally strong. They help clients process heartbreaking stories all the time. If you need a shoulder to cry on, your partner will be capable of sharing the burden.
What would be your reason to date a therapist?

Books: Lupita and her Magical Dreams
Lupita and the Magic of Mexico
BIO:
I was brought to the United States at the age of 2 years old. We came here in search of
a better life and in hopes of achieving the American Dream. I grew up in the public-
school system, went to East Carolina University to study Psychology and then to
Central Law School. At the end of my studies, the most important thing I learned was
that our Latino culture and family needed to be celebrated. I realized that I needed to
reconnect and unite with myself and with my family in a way that celebrated and united
our two cultures, so I began to learn more about myself and used my dreams to guide
me. The process of using my dreams to guide my life led me to writing my first
children’s book, Lupita and the Magic of Mexico. My passion for writing and uniting
families through my book filled me with the determination to write my second book,
Lupita and her Magical Dreams! This book features the significant role dreams play in
our lives at an early age.
In writing these books I learned that love has no borders and that stories can unite us in
a magical way. My passion is to inspire those around me by my example and my
mission is to provide guidance in the art of Dream Interpretation.
Book Information

home city and find that the magic they were looking for may not be tied to one place at
all!
Lupita and her Magical Dreams
Have you ever woken up terrified from a scary dream? Lupita has, and she's

scary dream. Her journey begins in bed and before you know it, she is flying through the

Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI discusses acceptance (finding himself reflecting on this skill/concept) at More Than Therapy located at 201 W Main Street Suite 316 Durham, NC 27701.
Whenever life gets tough, there is a natural tendency to want to avoid it. Practicing acceptance helps reduce stress and fear. You can learn how to cope with just about anything - as long as you know how.
Fear plays a big factor here. You might pray that the problem goes away without having to do anything. Or, you spend too much time trying to create a certain outcome.
It makes me thinking of that saying "What you resist persists."
Avoiding something it doesn't make it go away, instead the thing you’re trying to avoid just lingers. You start worrying about the "what ifs" rather than living in today.
Resisting takes up a lot of energy. The more you worry the less serenity you will have. In this blog you’ll learn how practicing acceptance can ease your anxiety in any situation.
What is acceptance?
Practicing+Acceptance+Blog+for+Recovery+and+Relationships.png
Acceptance means facing reality as it is without trying to change or control it.
This takes continued effort and patience. It’s more of a practice than something you achieve immediately.
Practicing acceptance decreases negative thoughts and worry. When we stop fighting what’s happening we can learn to embrace it.
Practicing Acceptance
When something challenging happens, don't assume a negative outcome. Nothing has actually happened yet.
Letting go is hard for most of us. Even the thought of having to let go of someone or something precious to us often triggers fear.
Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real which means what you fear rarely happens!
Instead, focus on staying present in the moment. Bring your thoughts back to what's really happening not what you’re worrying about. Being in the moment is a quick way to get a reality check - which can lessen anxious thoughts.

Felipe Blue, LCAS, CSI has a discussion with his former professor, mentor, and long time friend, Dr. Tracey Phillips regarding counselors transitioning to coaching.
In order to ethically offer coaching as a licensed therapist, you must: Treat coaching clients as therapy clients, and abide by all state laws and rules governing your license, including but not limited to mandated reporting, dual relationships, and record keeping. Offer coaching under a business separate from your therapy business. Educate clients and potential clients about the limits of coaching as a service, and how you will proceed if it becomes clear that they need therapy. Additional considerations: Whether you want to become a coach as your sole profession, or offer coaching services in addition to therapy. Your coaching qualifications. Your coaching niche and scope of practice. Whether or not you need to start a new, separate business. The laws and rules of your state regarding your professional license. The relevance of your profession’s ethical code in regards to coaching (you can consult your national professional association for free legal advice). The need for specific and separate client contracts and paperwork. Defining the boundary between therapy and coaching for yourself and clients. Developing a policy for identifying therapy needs as well as referral procedures. Separate and/or additional liability insurance.

Love is our deepest longing. Just as the body needs food the soul needs love--it is nourishment, spiritual nourishment. Without the food, air, and water, the body will deteriorate; without love the soul starts shrinking. And everybody is living with a very small soul for the simple reason that they have not loved. And why have they not loved? If you inquire into the question you will be surprised, because for the whole of their life everybody is trying to get love. But people are trying to get, not to give, and the law of love is that you get only when you give. Giving comes first, getting is only a consequence. - Osho -
❤
How often do you nourish your soul?
Is it easy for you to give and receive love?
How easy is it to stay focused on all our needs--physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual?

It was by no accident that John Giordano chose addiction treatment as his life’s work. Growing up the son of a heroin dealer and trying to cope with the trauma of being molested as a young boy, he fell hard into drugs and alcohol. Over thirty-five years ago, at the urging of his family, John entered rehab. He emerged a changed man - committed to helping others afflicted by this terrible disease.
His new path required new knowledge. He has since earned many degrees and certifications including Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Criminal Justice Specialist, Master in Neurolinguistics Programming, Certified Practitioner of E.M.D.R, Certified Sentence Mitigation Specialist, Certified Mindfulness and Powerful Mind-Body Awareness Therapy Skills, International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and in 2008 he was honored with a Doctor of Human Letters from Sinai University in Jerusalem Israel.
As he began his career in addiction treatment he became increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of care he observed in treatment facilities. John decided to set out on his own and with only $300 he opened an addiction treatment facility that evolved into the highly awarded G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment in North Miami Beach, Florida which eventually sold for $45,000,000.
John has authored two books “How To Beat Your Addictions And Live A Quality Life", “Proven Holistic Treatment For Addiction & Chronic Relapse” and was a contributing author for ‘Molecular Neurobiology of Addiction Recovery: The 12 Steps Program and Fellowship’. with the esteemed Dr. Blum and Dr. Gold. He has also contributed to over 73 scientific research papers. Research Gate ranks him as one of the top researchers in the world.
John’s achievements have not gone unnoticed; he is one of the media’s most sought after addiction expert. Mr. Giordano has appeared on countless notable national and local TV programs such as CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, FOX Mornings with Mike and Juliet, Tom Brokaw NBC News, ABC News, CNN Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Geraldo, and “Interventions” on A&E as well as many other national and local TV and radio shows.
Giving back to his community has always been the core principle of Mr. Giordano’s. His efforts to better his community have also been recognized. Florida State Congresswoman Carrie Meek presented Mr. Giordano with the distinguished “Martin Luther King Award” for his work in the community. He was also awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Homeless Community of Dade County and the Humanitarian Award from South Florida Public Television Station, WPBT.
In addition to his daily responsibilities; John has provided counseling and trauma recovery services to law enforcement officers and Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. He is a state and federal expert witness and also the Chaplain of the North Miami Police Department. As a 10th-degree black belt and National Karate Champion, he also trains law enforcement officers and Green Berets in self-defense and negotiation techniques.

Felipe Blue, MA, LCAS interviews Ashley Gilmore of Gilmore Counseling about her upbringing, her therapeutic approach, and her views of Black women being "Superwomen" and how this may be detrimental to their wellness and recovery. While Black women, women of color and women in general are increasingly visible in leadership roles across many professions, in academia, business, medicine, and law, real gains in high level leadership roles and economic parity remain illusive and fragile. There remains a dearth of women in educational leadership positions. For example, while women comprise 80% of the teaching force, less than 30% of educational leaders are women--13% of these are Blacks, 6.5% are Latino, and 3% are Asian.

We understand that anger can be a challenging emotion to experience and manage.
You can speak to a highly trained therapist who will listen to your experiences and help you to find a way to effectively manage your anger going forward.

Sex During the Coronavirus Pandemic: What's Safe, and What Experts Don't Want You to Do
The distinction matters, because safe sex during the pandemic depends on your current relationship situation and, well, why you're having sex in the first place.
If you were to conceive a baby while one partner had COVID-19 (remember, people can be asymptomatic, so you may not know if you have it), it does not appear that the virus is transmitted via sperm or eggs, so the resulting embryo shouldn't be affected, says Dr. Surrey.

As a reminder, feeling grateful for the positive aspects of our new normal doesn't mean you're grateful the pandemic happened in the first place, so there's nothing wrong with enjoying the extra time you have to spend with your partner.
" the tensions are putting huge tolls on relationships because people feel like they're seeing a new side of their partner."
Whether your relationship was already doomed before the pandemic or the pandemic is showing you things about your partner and relationship that you can't unsee, now is a sucky time to go through a breakup .

F. Khristopher Blue of More Than Therapy interviews Aubrea Ageda, a social worker in Durham, Wake, and Franklin County, NC discuss the impact of grief, a focus more recently due to the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and seven others. The 7 Stages of Grief Shock and Denial When someone first brings you that bad news, it can be difficult to believe. You want to just shake your head and say, "no way." You may start to feel numb. The shock and disbelief are actually suspending your pain, and this may last for several weeks. This doesn't mean the loss didn't impact you. It's simply the first stage in the grief process. Pain and Guilt Once your shock starts to fade, you'll notice the pain. This is when it first starts to hit you that your loss is real. The pain may be extremely difficult to handle, and it may feel physical as well as emotional. You may even start to feel guilty about something you could or should have done for the person (even if it's illogical). Anger and Bargaining Next, many people feel angry. You may feel angry with your religion, with someone who was taking care of that person, with the person responsible, or the person themselves. It may be completely unreasonable who you feel angry with, but you seek out someone you can blame for the loss. You may even attempt to bargain to bring that person back. Depression, Reflection, and Loneliness Depression, reflection, and loneliness usually come later. When many of your family or friends are starting to overcome their suffering or starting to think you should be overcoming your own suffering, you may feel depressed. It can hit even harder than the initial pain, because you're truly coming to terms with the loss. You're not feeling the pain as much as feeling the change to your life. Maybe you've lost someone you spent a lot of time with or the person you always told secrets to. This material loss can cause depression, reflection on the way things were, and loneliness as you realize those times are gone. The Turn Finally, just when you think there can't possibly be anything good coming ever again, you'll start to feel a little better each day. It may be so slight that you don't even realize it at first, and you won't feel happy all at once. What you may feel is a little less pain, a little less sadness, and more of being okay. Reconstruction and Working Through This is where you'll start to work your way through the aftermath of losing that loved one. Maybe you have to take care of some financial troubles either caused by the loss or the grief. Maybe you need to just put yourself back together. This is the stage where it all begins. Acceptance The final stage is the one you'll be in for the rest of your life: you start to accept the loss fully and begin to move on with your life. That's not to say you ever "get over it," but that you start to feel okay. You're able to think and talk about your loss without feeling the despair or intense pain. It may make you sad to think about, but it may also make you happy, because now you can remember the good times.

When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure. Quote by Peter Marshall
--
During some periods of our lives, the difficulties that we face can seem insurmountable. And during these times, it is easy for us to "long for life without difficulties." However, as Peter points out, the hardships that we face are what strengthen us, define us, and help us to grow into the person we were meant to become.
Like a sapling, we begin a bit frail, in need of nourishment. As a young boy, I needed the support of my parents and those around me to help me through difficulties that lay before me. However, over time, the hardships in my life began to strengthen me, they allowed me to grow strong roots that helped me to rise up above those difficulties. And so it is that the things that test us in life, serve to make us stronger, just as the oak trees that we see outside.
And similarly, the beauty we find in diamonds could not be seen, if not for the incomprehensible amount of pressure involved. Our inner beauty, like diamonds, is forged in the furnaces of adversity, tempered by the hammer of trials and obstacles, and molded by our own triumph over those very difficulties that perhaps we once feared.
There is sure to be difficulties in our lives. If we accept this fact, the hardships will be fewer and less intense, for acceptance of difficulties allows us to relate to them in a much more positive way.
Today's Challenge: Find acceptance and growth in the difficulties you face.
Questions to consider:
How do you see difficulties in your life?
Do you accept them as learning or teaching situations or wish they would go away?
Have you grown more as a person when dealing with difficulties or when life has been flowing smoothly?
For further thought:
Sometimes things which at the moment may be perceived as obstacles--and actually be obstacles, difficulties, or drawbacks--can in the long run result in some good end which would not have occurred if it had not been for the obstacle. Quote by Steve Allen

There’s so much talk about education, or the lack thereof that our kids are receiving from our public schools. I myself have spoken on the subject and while I feel that there is definite need for change in that space, another area is being neglected as well. Parents seem to have forgotten that part of their job is to educate their children on the issues that aren’t covered in school and that are also of particular relevance for people of African descent. Our heritage is one strong in the oral tradition that teaches not only our history but important life lessons and I say it’s time we remembered that. So here’s my list of things that every Black child should be taught by their parents: 1. Respect and reverence for their elders 2. How to save and invest money 3. Manners and etiquette (this includes conflict resolution) 4. Entrepreneurship 5. Black Pride/Ancestry (sorely lacking here, I’ll save further thoughts on this topic for another post) 6. How to be responsible and keep your word

A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.
Mahatma Gandhi
Today's Meditation:
Our thoughts ultimately shape who we are and what we become in life. This idea might be frightening to some; after all, no one really wants to accept the blame for bad and negative in their life. But if we look at it in a way that enables us to define our destiny, then we become empowered. We recognize that we have the ability to accomplish whatever we want to in life--that we are not defined by our age, our job, or our past, and see that we will not be able to better ourselves through any special works, acts, or deeds. We become whomever it is that we wish to become... plain and simple.
Several years ago, I was at a retreat in which every morning I was tasked to write down a wish, a prayer, or desire on a piece of paper and then carry it in my

As a relationship counselor, I am often asked "why did my partner Cheat"? Often an affair is a symptom. A spouse cheats because there is vulnerability, either in your partner or in your relationship. Problems can occur if your relationship has become dry, if you are not interacting with each other, if the sex life is nil or there's been some changes were a lot of their attention is going outside of the relationship.your partner may be hungry, and seeking to fill the hunger through other means. Whether it be through cybersex, through a motional intimacy with coworkers are through having an affair. To get to the heart of the reason for the infidelity, consider cheating to be the symptom and not the illness.

Most men have no idea what the true power of sex. Most of us use orgasm as a means to nearly release tension in the body, to get out of the heads of ourselves for a few minutes and relax our restless brains. We often use women, porn, or other men to distract ourselves from the deep, unfulfilled long inside our hearts that we have fully surrendered to love. Most men have battled with sexuality and with the shame and the disorientation that runs rampant through this modern world.
