Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, food, and fun; but many times, during all the merriment, we tend to forget to look out for the safety of our pets. With all the non-pet-friendly foods potentially getting dropped on the floor or plates left unattended, many pets can find themselves unable to resist the temptation of eating something that could make them very ill. In this episode we explore some of the health hazards for pets during Thanksgiving, and discuss ways of that you can include your pet in all the festivities in a safe and harmonious way, (with pet-friendly treats and all)
Cancer. It's a scary word that no human being wants to hear at the doctor's office. It's also a word that's a scary reality for animals as well. And diabetes is another scary word for either human or animal to hear. The word alone elicits thoughts of insulin needles, finger pricks, amputated limbs, and even comas. Is there a way to prevent such diseases or lessen their effects? Cock fighting is nothing new. Its history spans back to centuries ago. Modern cock-fighting in its earliest form was first discovered in the Philippines in the early 1500's, and has since been practiced by people in numerous countries; but what happens when an area adopts such a practice as their National Sport and depends heavily on its revenues? In Puerto Rico, cock fighting is legal and considered part of the island's culture; in this episode of The Missy Show, we explore how this practice negatively affects the roosters involved and the attitudes of those who perpetuate and justify the practice. We'll also cover the exploding iguana population problem in Puerto Rico and what's being done to help.

In this final episode of October Pet Spooktacular, any scary topic goes. Ghosts, monsters, aliens, cryptids. You name it, we can go there. Plus we'll be discussing the phenomenon known as The Mandela Effect. Have you ever sworn that you can remember a set of facts or circumstances being one way, only to find they've now somehow changed? For instance, some people remember Mandela dying in prison in the 80's, while others remember him the way current history portrayed his life. Then there's the Berestain Bears controversy: Some clearly remember it as being spelled Berenstein, while others remember it as always being spelled Beren"stain". Why are so many people having such differences in memory? Is it a normal error in our mental processing or have some of us slid into other dimesions where history unfolded differently from how we remember things?

Welcome to the kick off of our first October Pet Spooktacular episode of 2016! In this episode, we'll attempt to get to the bottom of the mysterious phenomenons of Crop Circles and Animal Mutilations. Are crop circles simply the creation of mischievous humans with lots of talent and too much time on their hands? Or could they be the result of aliens or some other extra-dimensional forces? And what of animal mutilations? Did you know that in some of these cases, there is no blood found in or around the animals--despite having had eyes, tongue, or sexual organs removed? Unfortunately, the risk of genetic abnormalities are a real possibility some for human infants. But did you know that some of the same chromosomal and genetic mutations can also occur in the animal kingdom? The African elephant has been nearly driven to extinction due to the greed and blood lust involved with obtaining ivory at any cost. And elephants are not the only animals affected. Walruses and Narwhals are also killed for their tusks. At what point does this senseless killing stop? On past episodes, we've discussed the importance of spaying and neutering your pets; but despite the many platforms discussing this importance, the pet population continues to grow. With this population growth, comes the unfortunate situation that leaves thousands of animals housed in shelters, as they await a furever home. For many of these animals, the shelter will be their last stop, as they will be euthanised to make room for more. This situation has to stop. Most of us are accustomed to people having traditional pets such as cats and dogs. People don't even bat an eye regarding hamsters or ferrets as pets; but most people would raise an eyebrow at the thought of pet parenting a cow, pig, chicken, or sheep. Why? Because these animals are typically thought of only in the capacity of their usefulness, (such as being a source of food, milk, or clothing). When it comes to hoarding, what comes to mind for most of us, are the documentary shows, showing people with severely cluttered homes, piled high with clothing, papers, and a myriad of other items most people would consider, junk. But were you also aware that there is a such thing as animal hoarding?
