Few men have been able to remain so grounded as Warren Buffet. His family privacy and success I truly admire.
As time went by I wondered why I would be resentful or lack the empathy I once prized in me. Maybe when we deny our basic needs long enough and our loved ones lead us to believe we aren’t entitled to basic needs if their needs from us are not met first the end result is resentment and bitterness. I think the toughest part is when we point out how much we have given of ourselves and stop giving we see our self sacrifice ultimately rendered us less respectable to our loved ones. Accepting that reality has been painful. I’d rather see my needs met by me than ever resent someone I love for being unable to read my mind. They don’t get off the hook for taking whatever they could take without reciprocity we just are not going to let them get away with it again.
My Father was a WASP (white Anglo Saxon Protestant). His father was educated in Kent England at Seven Oaks. My father’s mother - my grandmother - Alice was a daughter of the American Revolution. Her family came over on the Mayflower.
Disconnecting the sensation of what fear does in our bodies from the thought really does help arrest thinking that is not productive. We all do it time to time yet knowing we can only control what we can control and replacing those catastrophic thoughts with lovely thoughts and memories works. Have a lovely Friday.
Challenges with toddlers can include their sudden impatience with being confined. Maybe it takes a little anticipating but a dialogue about what it is the new “walker” hopes to accomplish includes them in a solution as to why one moment or another isn’t an option. Maybe it is or isn’t better than “because I said so”
