Thanksgiving relationship advice from Kim Iversen

"The girl I've been seeing for the past couple months has nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. She doesn't have much family and the family she does have lives out of state, and she can't afford to see them. My family is huge, and we always have a big thansgiving dinner. I'm thinking about inviting her but I dont know if I should because she might think we are more serious than we actually are if I introduce her to my entire family, so I don't want to give her the wrong idea, but I also don't want her to be alone on Thanksgiving."

Ray Davies was the lead singer, chief songwriter, and rhythm guitarist in the Kinks, one of the most long-lived of the British Invasion rock groups of the 1960s. In effect, the Kinks had always been merely a backup group for Davies, who wrote and sang nearly all their songs with only the occasional contribution from his brother Dave, who played lead guitar in the group. At various times, Ray Davies made noises about dissolving the group and going solo, but for years the closest he came to it was taking solo credit for the soundtrack to his 1985 film, Return to Waterloo (which he wrote and directed), even though the music sounds as much like the Kinks as that on any regular Kinks record.

During the '90s, however, the Kinks gradually became inactive and Davies pursued other projects, starting with his semi-fictional 1995 memoir, X-Ray. He supported the book with a series of concerts subtitled Storyteller, where he played classic Kinks songs, read from the book, told stories, and showcased new songs. The Storyteller concerts sowed the seeds of a number of projects, including the music cable network VH1's recurring series of the same name. Davies himself released a book entitled Storyteller, filled with short stories, and a similarly titled album that captured one of his solo acoustic concerts. That record was his first solo effort since Return to Waterloo, and was released in the spring of 1998.

Born in Kansas in 1966, country singer Martina McBride got her big break when Garth Brooks, for whom her husband worked on a sound crew, gave her an opening slot on his concert tour in 1990. She became highly successful and her songs topped country charts for the next fifteen years.

Born Martina Mariea Schiff on July 29, 1966, in Sharon, Kansas. Growing up on a dairy farm alongside two brothers and a sister, Martina became interested in country music through her father's local band, The Schiffters. Martina eventually joined the band, playing keyboard and singing with other members of her family at local gigs around town. After graduating from high school in a class of nine students, Martina headed to a local college before realizing that she was more interested in a career in music. In 1987, Schiff met local sound engineer John McBride, and the couple became engaged shortly after meeting. They moved to Nashville in 1990 to pursue careers in music.

John found work as a member of Garth Brooks' sound crew, and Martina performed odd jobs for a while, including selling T-shirts at Garth Brooks concerts. She finally caught the attention of Brooks in 1990, and he offered her a chance to be his opening act if she could land a recording contract. With a demo recorded by her husband, she finally signed with RCA and began touring. Her 1992 debut album, The Time Has Come, was followed by her 1993 hit album The Way That I Am. The album's her first hit single, "My Baby Loves Me," jumped to No. 2 on the music charts, followed by "Life #9", which also made it into the Top 10. Her song "Independence Day," about domestic abuse won her Video of the Year by the Country Music Association in 1994.

The next year, McBride released Wild Angels, and the title single became her first No. 1 single. That same year, she was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Her next album, Evolution (1997), became a Top 10 hit and a double-platinum record. It also brought McBride a string of hits, including "Valentine," "Happy Girl," "A Broken Wing" and "Wrong Again." The project finally pushed McBride into the spotlight, and earned her critical acclaim; she earned her first CMA award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1999, and was selected to perform for President Bill Clinton.

Brooks & Dunn is an American country music duo consisting of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, both vocalists and songwriters. Founded in 1991, the duo signed to Arista Nashville that year. They have released 50 singles, of which 20 went to No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs charts and 19 more reached Top 10. Two of these No. 1 songs, "My Maria" (a cover of the B.W. Stevenson song) and "Ain't Nothing 'bout You", were the top country songs of 1996 and 2001, respectively, according to the Billboard Year-End charts. The latter is also the duo's longest-lasting No 1 single on that chart at six weeks. Several of their songs have also reached the Billboard Hot 100, with the No. 25 peaks of "Ain't Nothing 'bout You" and "Red Dirt Road" being their highest there. Brooks & Dunn also won the Country Music Association Vocal Duo of the Year award every year between 1992 and 2006, except for 2000. Two of their songs won the Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal: "Hard Workin' Man" in 1994 and "My Maria" in 1996. All but two of the duo's studio albums are certified platinum or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America; their highest-certified is their 1991 debut album, Brand New Man, which is certified sextuple-platinum for shipments of six million copies.

The Barenaked Ladies are a Canadian rock band, formed in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario. The band quickly developed a cult following in Canada, with their self-titled 1991 cassette becoming the first independent release ever to be certified gold in Canada. Their debut with Reprise Records, Gordon, featuring the singles "If I Had $1000000" and "Brian Wilson", was released in 1992.
The band's style has evolved greatly throughout their career, and their music which began as exclusively acoustic quickly grew to encompass a mixture of a wide array of styles including pop, rock, hip hop, rap, etc.[citation needed] They are most commonly billed as an "alt rock" band.

"One Week" remains the band's most successful single. Other well-known singles include "It's All Been Done", "Pinch Me", and "The History of Everything" (the theme song to the sitcom The Big Bang Theory).

THE DOLLYROTS ANNOUNCE JULY/AUGUST TOUR DATES - NEW ALBUM DAYDREAM EXPLOSION OUT ON JULY 12 ON WICKED COOL RECORDS/THE ORCHARD

LOS ANGELES ALBUM RELEASE SHOW JULY 13 AT THE HI HAT
PLAYING VANS WARPED TOUR 25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA

The Dollyrots continue to bring their trademark melodic pop-punk to the masses with a new album and tour run this summer. The duo’s upcoming new album Daydream Explosion will be out on July 12 on Wicked Cool/The Orchard. Hear the brand-new track “In Your Face,” released today on all streaming platforms, or preorder the full album now and get both “Everything” and “In Your Face” as instant downloads.

Pre-order Daydream Explosion here: https://orcd.co/daydreamexplosiondollyrots

Daydream Explosion is the band’s sixth with longtime producer John Fields (Jimmy Eat World, All Time Low.) The new album bursts out of the gate with the one-two punch of “Animal” and lead single “Everything.” Follow-up single “In Your Face” is a midtempo rocker with a wallop of a chorus, while stylistic variations are all over this collection of 14 brand-new songs. “Watching The Storm Go By" is a '60s girl-group homage so spot-on it includes a spoken interlude worthy of The Shangri-Las, while the lounge vibes on the verses of "Flippy In My Red Dress" are balanced sweetly by the revved-up chorus. Album closer "Daisy's Song" is an affectionate ode to Kelly and Luis' now two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. “Their songwriting has reached a consistent level of greatness.” – says Wicked Cool founder Stevie Van Zandt

The Dollyrots’ songs have long been a staple in rotation on Little Steven’s Underground Garage, but the band’s recent work really perked up the ears of Underground Garage/Wicked Cool founder Stevie Van Zandt. The alliance with Wicked Cool, which began with the singles “Get Radical” in 2018 and “Everything” this spring and is a return to a label after several DIY, fan-funded releases since 2012.

The band recently wrapped up a west coast tour run and will be on the road again this summer. Look for them back in California for their album release party presented by Little Steven's Underground Garage at the Hi Hat on July 13 and The Vans Warped Tour 25th Anniversary Celebration at Shoreline Amphitheater on July 20. They will embark on an east coast tour kicking off on July 30, full list of dates below.

The Dollyrots’ 2017 album Whiplash Splash debuted on both Billboard’s Heatseekers chart at #13 and Billboard’s Independent Albums chart at #31. The band’s 2016 live album/DVD Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles debuted at #15 on Billboard's Heatseekers album chart, and Barefoot and Pregnant garnered their first chart appearance, peaking at #7 on Billboard's Heatseekers. Highly successful crowdsourcing campaigns preceded both chart appearance, this followed the group's 2012's self-titled LP, two albums on Joan Jett's Blackheart Records, and a 2004 debut through the venerable Lookout!/Panic Button Records.

-Tour Dates-
6/14 - Midwest Punkfest XI - Bloomington, IL

Sitting next to us today is Reid Mihalko @ ReidAboutSex creator of SexGeekSummerCamp.com and we talk about how to talk about love and sex in a meaningful way, in a world where its sometimes difficult to talk about HOW to talk about it. Were our parents equipped with the tools? OR: has society castrated us to believe that we need to accept the things we don't like for the ones we love? Reid explains why we need to "Say what you're not saying." We get deep with this one, so strap in (with your seatbelt) and prepare for a conversation about the birds and the bees. There's an expert sitting next to us! www.reidaboutsex.com/convo
