In this episode Helen chats to an inspirational, energetic and passionate advocate, speaker and campaigner for Father’s Mental Health; Mark Williams.

?Mark developed post-natal depression following the traumatic birth of his son 13 years ago – a diagnosis he attempted to hide and self manage and that went unrecognised for some time.  Finally, Mark received treatment for his mental health and at the age of 40 years of age was also given a diagnosis of ADHD.

Following Mark’s experience he came to realise how little screening or support there was for father’s or other family members involved following the birth of a child so he set up an organisation called Father’s Reaching Out to provide a support network for other fathers.   This work quickly took off and Mark went on to do much more work in this field.

Mark has written about Fathers' mental health in several publications and has appeared on BBC Breakfast, ITV NEWS, Good Morning Britain and Channel 5. His story has been told in USA, Australia New Zealand, Canada, Africa, Asia. He has also appeared in television documentaries concerning mental health including Channel 5's My Secret Past on Postnatal Depression with Jennifer Ellison.

?To date, Mark has spoken around the World at over 150 conferences and events

Mark has also set up many projects and organisations including Fathers Reaching Out and Dads Matter UK and now works as a consultant to help other organisations build better Men's Mental Health groups.

?Marks is the Founder of International Father’s Mental Health Day and won the Local Hero Award at the Pride of Britain Awards and Inspirational Father of the Year in 2012.  In 2016 he was chosen to meet the Royal Family on World’s Mental Health Day.

?In the conversation Mark speaks openly and honestly about his experiences -from growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, to the events surrounding the birth of his son and supporting his wife with post-natal depression; moving on to discuss his own experience with depression and mental ill health, reflecting then on why he was driven to do the work he does now and why this work is so important.

?In 2009 Emily started to write a blog called, A Hunger Artist, about her experience with an eating disorder and has written many posts to date on this topic for the Psychology Today website.

?The scope of the agency’s vision allows them to bring to bear resources to address a broad spectrum of human problems:

In this episode of Mind Matters Matter Hadley had an enjoyable interview with Julie Duffy Dillon, a nutrition specialist and eating disorder therapist.

In today's interview we speak about anxiety and Julie shares her own experiences with this.

We bust some myths about eating disorders.  We discuss how to cope with anxiety, and how Julie helps people with their food journey.

A little about Julie: she is a Fat Positive Dietitian, Eating Disorder Specialist, and Food Behavior Expert who partners with people along their Food Peace journey.  She owns a group nutrition therapy private practice in central North Carolina using only weight inclusive and attuned eating approaches.  Julie supervises dietitians and other health care providers to move them away from weight normative approaches and instead focus on promoting healing and health.

Julie also began specializing in treating Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) in 2005 after noticing the connection with weight bias and eating disorders.  She sought training on the physiology and endocrinology from pioneering experts willing to not focus on weight loss and diets to treat this complicated condition.  This insight has helped women with PCOS to advocate for their physical and emotional health without torturing themselves with diets.  She launched an e-course A Step-by-Step Guide for PCOS & Food Peace in September 2017.

Julie hosts the weekly podcast Love Food - a Dear Abby show for those with eating concerns hoping to rewrite their fate.  Listeners pen a letter to food outlining their complicated relationship.  Julie and sometimes a guest discuss solutions before Food writes back.

Julie has spoken at the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium, and EDRDPro Symposium.  She was also the featured expert dietitian on TLC's documentary My Big Fat Fabulous Life.
