“I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground.” —Isaiah 44:3

To my beloved fellow-workers and pastors in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina is dedicated this story of our experiences together.

"Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come fr om the presence o the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of al things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time" —Acts of the Apostles 3:19-21

Jesus

Visible

Image of

Unseen God

Jesus

Firstborn

Of the living

And the dead

By him all things made

In Heaven and on earth

All pow’rs and all thrones

Seen and unseen realms

Jesus, Firstborn Son

Pre-Eminent One

Jesus

Beloved Son

Firstborn

Of the Church

Jesus

Before it all

And all things

He holds in one

The fullness of our God

In his human form

Through him reconciled

All things to himself

Jesus, Firstborn Son

Pre-Eminent One

Humanity

Hostility

Enemies

And evil deeds

Humanity

Futility

Disobeying

The Eternal King

But the King’s now reconciled

Through his flesh and blood

So that we

Would be his body

Made to be

Blameless

Holy

Yeah, we’ll be

To his glory

Gospel King

Reconciling

Jesus, Firstborn Son

Pre-Eminent One

Jesus, your Kingdom

Is all of creation

Jesus, Firstborn Son

Pre-Eminent One

LYRICS

We give thanks to the Father!

He qualifies his sons and daughters

With all the saints in light

We share the hope and treasure alike

Delivered us from the dead

To the Kingdom of His Beloved

O Christ, our redemption!

O Christ, the forgiveness of sin!

We've heard this Gospel truth

Understood and trusted in you

We give thanks that it's come to us

To bear the fruit you're growing in us

May we

Learn to be

Walking

In a manner that's worthy of you

Since the first day, we have seen

God's grace taught and received

Our faith remains in Christ

Loving the saints in the Spirit of Christ

We ever rejoice to see

The Gospel bearing its seed

All across the earth Bringing sinners the new birth

May you be

Filling

And strengthening

Our hearts with unshakeable joy

Jude (ESV)

[1] Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James,

To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

[2] May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

[3] Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. [4] For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

[5] Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. [6] And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—[7] just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

[8] Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. [9] But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” [10] But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. [11] Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion. [12] These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; [13] wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.

[14] It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, [15] to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” [16] These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.

[17] But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. [18] They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” [19] It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. [20] But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, [21] keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. [22] And have mercy on those who doubt; [23] save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

[24] Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, [25] to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. (ESV)

[Verse 1]

Who is the way, the truth, the life?

Who is the Holy Word of light?

Who is the vision to our eyes?

Who is the love that will abide?

[Chorus]

Only Jesus, only Jesus

Who is truest life?

Only Jesus Christ

Only Jesus, only Jesus

Who is lifted high?

Only Jesus Christ

[Verse 2]

Who is the purpose of our days?

Who is our hope that doesn't fade?

Who is our courage and our strength?

Who is the fullness of our faith?

[Bridge]

You are the way, the truth, and the life

You are the blood, the water, the vine

You are the word and You are the light

1 John 4:1-6

[1] Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. [2] By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, [3] and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. [4] Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. [5] They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. [6] We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (ESV)

Isaiah 5:11–12 (ESV): Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after strong drink, who tarry late into the evening as wine inflames them! They have lyre and harp, tambourine and flute and wine at their feasts, but they do not regard the deeds of the Lord, or see the work of his hands.

Psalm 19

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

[1] The heavens declare the glory of God,

and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

[2] Day to day pours out speech,

and night to night reveals knowledge.

[3] There is no speech, nor are there words,

whose voice is not heard.

[4] Their voice goes out through all the earth,

and their words to the end of the world.

In them he has set a tent for the sun,

[5] which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,

and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.

[6] Its rising is from the end of the heavens,

and its circuit to the end of them,

and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

[7] The law of the LORD is perfect,

reviving the soul;

the testimony of the LORD is sure,

making wise the simple;

[8] the precepts of the LORD are right,

rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the LORD is pure,

enlightening the eyes;

[9] the fear of the LORD is clean,

enduring forever;

the rules of the LORD are true,

and righteous altogether.

[10] More to be desired are they than gold,

even much fine gold;

sweeter also than honey

and drippings of the honeycomb.

[11] Moreover, by them is your servant warned;

in keeping them there is great reward.

[12] Who can discern his errors?

Declare me innocent from hidden faults.

[13] Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;

let them not have dominion over me!

Then I shall be blameless,

and innocent of great transgression.

[14] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be acceptable in your sight,

O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. (ESV)

I feel my roots

Down under

Can't you feel

Them rumble

I'm seeing stars

Form on

A new night

That unfolds

Oh, my heart's

Been breaking

Just to feel

This full

And my skin's

Been aching

Just to feel

This warm

I finally see the clouds

Openin' up

I see the sky

Atlantic Sun

I see the sky

Atlantic Sun

You know, I've tried

To find some hope

'Cause I know

We're not alone

We are not

On our own

We're just anchored

Below

I finally see the clouds

Openin' up

I see the sky

Atlantic Sun

I see the sky

Atlantic Sun

We're not alone

Just anchored below

All around

Monochrome downpour on

Dampened clouds

I wanna see them open up

I can't feel you now

Lost my mind in my own thoughts

Tired of looking up

To not see you shining down

I just want to know

You're in my heart

I just want to live

Like you're always around

I'll keep running back to you

I'll keep running back to you

I'll keep searching for the truth

I'll keep running back to you

Some days I don't

Feel like you're the Sky's Sun

You're just behind the clouds

Waiting for lighter days to come

But you're not just a Sun

You're down deep in the ocean

You're in my air

You're in the stars that shine at night

I just want to know

That you're around

I just want to know

That you can still shine

I'll keep running back to you

I'll keep running back to you

I'll keep searching for the truth

I'll keep running back to you

I want to see the clouds open up

I want to see the sun rising up

So I can feel you

I want to see the clouds open up

I want to see the sun rising up

I want to see the clouds open up

I want to see the sun rising up

I want to see the clouds open up

I want to see the sun rising up

I tore two hearts apart

And walked away with mine

Watched my mistakes coagulate

I think I bled all night

I knew when I was driving

I'd make *her cry

*They say broken hearts can heal over time

After I thought of it all

Over and over again

I found a way to fall

I found a way to be whole again

I'm not staying in here in my sorrow

I'm tired of feeling this weight that I've put on myself

I'm not just gonna sit and let the blood flow

I'm not gonna let myself coagulate

No, no more

I'm still bleeding

That's why it still hurts here

I want my joy to rest in the fact that you're in my chest

You're still leading me

But you know I get lost in fear

I'm always bleeding

It's just cuts are revealing

After I'd seen her heart

Open and *broken again

I want *your blood to run

I want you in *our veins again

I'm not staying in here in my sorrow

I'm tired of feeling this weight that I've put on myself

I'm not just gonna sit and let the blood flow

I'm not gonna let myself coagulate

No, no more

I'm not staying in here in my sorrow

I'm tired of feeling this weight that I've put on myself

Lying on the concrete I feel safe to be

Down where you're all I see

I feel my roots down under

Scraping through the shadows

They're not listening

But still, my heart tries to speak

Right when I feel they've come so close

I start to crumble

But my heart'll keep

It'll keep beating so slow

Like a poem missing a soul

A song missing the pull

'Til you're here again

'Til you're singing

My poem's missing your soul

My song's missing your pull

You're here again

And you're singing

Who's the one in control

'Cause when I try to write my own soul

It all falls apart

I'm reaching out from this cold, dark hole

Right where I built her home

Turned myself straight into stone

See as fire falls down

Burn my dreams to ground and shake

As I start to crumble

But my heart'll keep

It'll keep beating so slow

Like a poem missing a soul

A song missing the pull

'Til you're here again

'Til you're singing

My poem's missing your soul

My song's missing your pull

You're here again

And you're singing

To the end, you take me from my shadows

Day has come, I'm past all my past now

This is my epilogue

This is my epilogue

To the end, you take me from my shadows

Day has come, I'm past all my past now

This is my epilogue

Not my epitaph

Like a poem missing a soul

A song missing the pull

'Til you're here again

'Til you're singing

My poem's missing your soul

My song's missing your pull

You're here again

And you're singing

Eyes open

To every single delight

The subtle little lusts of life

Eyes open

The longings of my fickle mind

Pleasure for a moment of time

I’ll turn away my eyes so I

Don’t fall again

Yeah, that’ll do the trick this time

This will be mine

This is my birthright

Eyes closed

Replays of my darkest times

Projections of my life’s demise

Eyes closed

I thought this wouldn’t be my vice

My heart is overwhelmed by mind

My life became a fortress

Of solitude, not bliss

Yeah, that was the great lie

This was never mine

I have no birthright

Those tombs

One day it’ll be my time

To leave my lie of “life” behind

One tomb

Is empty, but it’s not mine

Death had seemed to lost that time

The Sun

Piercing through my closed eyes

Bringing me from death to life

This is my Birthright

This is my Birthright

Now I lift up my eyes so I

Won’t ever forget

Who I’ve sought All this time

Not my own sublime

Christ is the Birthright

Let no one look down on you

By their man-made rule

Don't stay on types and shadows

Their pseudo-hallows

Christ has it all for you

Hold fast

To Christ

He's made you new

Be fed

By the Head

He'll nourish you

Let no one disqualify you

Insisting on their rules

What you can't think or do

Ignoring Christ's rule

Just wait on what he'll do

Just wait on what he'll do

Hold fast

To Christ

He's made you new

Be fed

By the Head

He'll nourish you

Hold on

To his hands

He'll take care of you

He'll stitch

Us together

He'll grow us, too

So, grow with a growth that's from God

Grow with a growth that's from God

Grow with a growth that's from God

Grow with a growth that's from God

Circumcision

Not by your hands

But his incision

You're buried with him

But that's not the end

You have been raised with him

He made a clean cut

The old self and the debt

Nailed it to his cross

And now

You're rooted

Built-up and

Established

In him

You have him

Walk in him

Abound in

Thanksgiving

You're rooted

Built-up and

Established

In him

You have him

Walk in him

Abound in

Thanksgiving

Triumphant in him

Over them

Rulers and judgment

They have no say

He's disarmed them

God, in our Christ, wins

Fullness of God

Fully in his flesh

You, too, are filled by him

And now

You're rooted

Built-up and

Established

In him

You have him

Walk in him

Abound in

Thanksgiving

You're rooted

Built-up and

Established

In him

You have him

Walk in him

Abound in

Don't be deceived

By the Christless life

That's not your life anymore

Anymore

  • We ought not disrupt the unity of the contents of this book. G.K. Beale writes, “The contents of this vision...are closely linked to what has gone before (i.e., in the book Revelation).”
  • Jesus' kingship is a present reality, not something that is exclusively a future reality. G.K. Beale writes, “This kingship (i.e., of Jesus) is not simply a future reality, but something which began at the resurrection (i.e., of Jesus).”
  • Chapters 4-5 are another reminder as to how abundantly worshipful the book of Revelation is. The ultimate view of Jesus is one that leads us to worship him.
  • Revelation summarizes the full story of the Bible.

3:6(ESV): “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

  • This line is repeated at the end of every one of these mini-epistles to the seven churches. Just as these churches were commanded to learn what God would say to all the other churches in this book, we, Christians today, ought to learn from what was send to them as well.

3:10 (ESV): Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.

  • This seems to be a word about the final judgment (hence, “the whole world”). It echoes of 1:7, which says, “Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him”.

3:19 (ESV): Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

  • The original context of this verse is for Christians in the Church. Of course, there is some extent a transferability to calling all people to hear Jesus’ voice and respond to him. However, this verse must be understood as it was originally intended. While this book contains oracles of the Final Judgment, as I demonstrated it does in verse 10. Revelation also contains moments of disciplinary action by God the Father to Christians. God disciplining Christians is not a final judgment, it’s not the end of the world, it’s a work of sanctification.

3:5, 12, 21 (ESV): “The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess … I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. … I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.”

  • Every call to overcome sin, death, and the Devil in this life is promised with the reward of eternal life and ruling with Jesus forever. The call and promise are both given by Jesus. This is why we must persevere, or, as it says in this book, “patiently endure,” to the end!

Apocalipsis 2-3

VIDEO: https://youtu.be/M3tXXSzPUCM

Jesus: // Visible // Image of // Unseen God // Jesus: // Firstborn // Of the living // And the dead //

By him all things made // In Heaven and on earth // All pow’rs and all thrones // Seen and unseen realms // Jesus, Firstborn Son // Pre-Eminent One //

Jesus: // Beloved Son // Firstborn // Of the Church // Jesus: // Before it all // All things // Held in one //

The fullness of our God // In his human form // Through him reconciled // All things to himself // Jesus, Firstborn Son // Pre-Eminent One //

Humanity: // Hostility // Enemies // And evil deeds // Humanity: // Futility // Disobeying // The Eternal King // The King’s now reconciled // Through his flesh and blood // Jesus, Firstborn Son // Pre-Eminent One //

So that we // Would be his body // Made to be // Blameless, Holy // We’ll be // To his glory // Gospel King // Reconciling // Jesus, your Kingdom // Is all of creation // Jesus, Firstborn Son // Pre-Eminent One

10/25/19 • Providence Road Church Youth • Speak and act as those who are under the law of liberty.

James 2:1–13

[1] My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. [2] For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, [3] and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” [4] have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? [5] Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? [6] But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? [7] Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?

[8] If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. [9] But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. [10] For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. [11] For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. [12] So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. [13] For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (ESV)
