This week, we're joined by Sven Hellsten, the business development director for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) at Ericsson, working to connect 5G using satellites for truly global connectivity. We discuss how the technology is progressing rapidly, in a few years we could be seeing the mass standardisation, with a 'satellite roaming' feature on smartphones for an extra cost. Satellite connectivity could help with a variety of use cases, from sharing a picture in a remote part of the world, to helping with emergency communications and journalism in areas with limited networks. EIA is a global competition where any university student can innovate an idea that will utilize technology to solve global challenges. This year, students were asked to 'Impact our sustainable future'. The finalists are Teams Benoit (Indonesia), Schrodinger Energy (Nigeria) and Saptkrishi Scientific (India). The winners, Benoit, had the brilliant idea to create flexible solar panels using plastic waste. We're taking our show on the road by visiting Kista Mobility Day where Ericsson and other tech companies and initiatives were showing the latest connected inventions on the streets - right in an area covered by our 5G test networks!
