This week, Ben Hall continued through our sermon series "Grace Unveiled" exploring 2 Corinthians 5:11-17.

In Grace Unveiled, the gospel is seen as the antidote for the meaninglessness and loneliness that exists within an individualized culture. Rather than being influenced by the spiritual and cultural forces around them, the people of God find themselves increasingly influential. This happens as they engage Jesus’ tangible presence, believe His relevant promises and surrender to His transformative power.

Not only by reading the Scripture was Jesus declaring that he was the Messiah, he was also telling the people what his mission was. And Jesus’ mission was to bring good news to the poor, and healing to the broken-hearted, and liberty to the captives, and sight to the blind, and freedom to the oppressed, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour, that is the year of jubilee when debts are forgiven.

And Jesus' mission is our mission.

This week, Steve Sundby begins with a quick overview about what SBC might look like in the next few months as we ease into getting together in person according to the steps outlined in BC's restart plan announced by Dr. Bonnie Henry last week.

Then he continues our sermon series: The Stories Jesus Told, preaching on the story found in Luke 11:1-13, about the late night visitor. Steve reminds us that we can boldly ask, seek and knock for God's Presence in our lives.

He encourages us to try a couple of things this week:

Ask, what of God do I need this coming week? Confidently ask Him for his Presence, and see what He'll do. Take a little time to just be with Jesus, and see what transpires.

This week, we continue our sermon series, The Stories Jesus Told, looking deeper into parables shared by Jesus as recorded in the book of Luke.

Today, Steve Karadimas preaches on the story of two people who go to the temple to pray. He invites us to reflect as we approach God: am I approaching God more like the tax collector, or more like the Pharisee?

This week, we continue our sermon series: The Stories Jesus Told. For the next several weeks, the preaching team will take us through parables told in the book of Luke.

Today, Steve Sundby preaches on the story of the good Samaritan. He challenges us to be a neighbour to those that God puts in our path that have a need, to "go and do likewise" as Jesus said. He asks us to consider three questions: Are you willing to go into your day with a sacrificial servant's heart? Are you willing to go through your day noticing the people around you? Are you willing to stop and act?

This Sunday's sermon is the final one in our current series: Vision for a Post-Covid Church. We have been talking about what SBC may look like when we begin to gather again.

This week, Steve Sundby considers how we may shift in the way we do church: What if sermons were more than transferring information? What if coffee with someone could transform your life? What if your children were used by God to start a revival? What if we gave up Bible studies and just read the Bible together? What if we dreamt not just for ourselves, but for our city?

In this week's sermon, Steve Sundby considers the questions: What if going to church was less important than being the church? What if God wants to move not just in the church, but through the church? What if the church modelled a Jesus way of making disciples? What if the church was like a fleet of food trucks? Welcome to the fourth Sunday in our 2020 Advent series: The Cast of Christmas! Each week, we have taken an in-depth look at a character from the Christmas story to discover who they were, how they used their gifts to serve God, and how they can be models for us during this time.

In today's sermon, Steve Karadimas shares about the angels in the Christmas story: how they delivered God's powerful message to each of the key characters, and how God is continuing to do that in our lives today.

As we go forward into our week, let's consider Hebrews 13:1-2: "Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!"

We look forward to worshipping online with you on December 24th, broadcasting live at 4 pm and 7 pm on our livestream, to celebrate the arrival of Jesus in an uplifting Christmas Eve service for the whole family! The livestream will remain on the website if you'd like to catch it later, too.

Lessons for the modern church from the book of Acts.

Thanks for checking out the first sermon in this series. We are going to delve in and learn about the early church in the Book of Acts. We invite you to return and listen in next week.

A church that saw thousands come to know Jesus in a single day. A church where prayer brought about the miraculous. A church of ordinary, everyday people that God used to literally change the world. There is much we can learn from the early church about being a twenty-first century 6:8 church.

Let’s open the Book of Acts and see what God wants to do through a bunch of ordinary, everyday people today.
