In Part II of our series encouraging people to leave town and go touring on our motorcycle, we invited the best long distance tourer in America. 1000 mile days are likely not your goal. A 250 mile day can be perfect with a little planning. Jim Owen just completed the 2017 Iron Butt Rally with his second win. This is an amazing acomplishment. anyone who has ever had a 1,000 mile day knows what a challenge it can be. When you are required to string 11 days of 1,000 per day together to win the IBR it requires drastic measures that are each very well planned. Jim takes a systematic approach to the Iron Butt.
We take his systematic approach and break it down to help us all learn how to truly enjoy motorcycle touring solo or two up. World record holder and long distance motorcycle rider Carl Reese calls in from a corn field in Nebraska while on tour with Deena Mastracci! He gives us special insight about how he prepares for long distance touring and what he does when he is on the road. Where to stay? How many miles per day is enough? What special preperation does he do?
Deena Mastracci joins the conversation as a relatively new rider. She won an award in 2016 for the highest mileage acheived by a new rider in their first year! Deena is a nutricianalist and shares special insight about what she eats and drinks during a long day in the saddle. She also tells us what her gear choices are for extreme hot weather touring. Norm Nelson has ridden from the Southeast to Alaska twice on a 1958 Harley Sportster 25 years apart! He is the highest finisher in the Motorcycle Cannonball over the last three events. Riding a 1911 Reading Standard in 2016 he goes deep inside his planning and packing as well as the mental preperation side of touring. Norm has also ridden a 2009 Piaggio BV250 scooter over 80,000 miles and many of those miles are on the Interstate!

He won his Gold on a Harley-Davidson XR750 besting Harley's own factory team on their XG 750's and the Indian Teams as well! In the last 12 months Pegram has competitively raced Supermoto, flat track at X-Games, driven the AudioSport R8 and won, and road raced at MotoAmerica! As a driver and a rider Larry Pegram has but one goal and that is to have fun!

Danny Walker has had but one goal as a team owner/manager in MotoAmerica. That goal is to see his contracted riders advance to the world stage in World Superbike and MotoGP. His Broaster Chicken Honda Team is headed to MotoAmerica at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca without Jake Gagne because Gagne got the call to ride for the Ten Kate team in World Superbike there in place of the late Nicky Hayden. We hear his thoughts about that and more in this episode of Talking Motorcycles. His hope is that Gagne will be signed full time by Ten Kate following the Laguna round. What qualities does he think Jake has that can make him a star on the world stage?

Riding Into History is in it's 18th year and it is happening May 20th at World Golf Village in St Augustine, Florida. The concourse features over 400 of America's finest vintage motorcycles on display. They have a history of Grand Marshall's and this one is no exception!

American Flat Track begins a stretch run of 5 Mile events at the Law Tigers Arizona Miles presented by Indian. This is the stretch of the season in 2016 where Bryan Smith began his stretch run to the Championship last year.
This special edition of the show will be co-hosted by Scottie Deubler and Bubba Blackwell. Scottie is now in his 9th year as "The Voice of Flat Track". Kenny Coolbeth has acheived much success on the Mile tracks. This season as the defacto leader of the Harley-Davidson Factory Team. He will be riding the XG750R Harley all season long. What will be his prediction for the outcome of the season within a season of 5 Mile events in a row?
Bryan Smith is the most successful Mile campaigner in modern era history. He will embark on a new era at Arizona on the Indian FTR750. He acheived much success on the Howerton Kawasaki and was always a solid pick for the win at any Mile on that bike. Questions will be answered this about the reliability, power and handling of the Indian on the Miles starting at the Arizona Mile. Everyone knows his style is perfect for the larger race tracks. What we don't know is how the Indian will perform on the Miles but we will know that soon.
Sammy Halbert has been on fire for the start of 2017 in American Flat Track. An altercation at Woodstock Georgia forced him to the backrow of the restart and we watched him march the Harley XR750 from last to 6th when Kevin Clark's double checkers were shown. How did he see the on track contact with Jared Mees? Will he ride the Kawasaki 650 or the XR750 on these 5 Miles?

The Suzuki ECSTAR Championship at Road Atlanta is the first "Stand Alone" event for MotoAmerica in 2017. Following a successful outing with MotoGP at Circuit of the America's, the tractor trailer rigs have rolled into the rolling hillsides of Road Atlanta!
In this episode of Talking Motorcycles we take a look backwards to the Round 1 in Austin and review what happened there. We then begin to look ahead to this weekend in Atlanta and beyond. There are many story lines developing already in 2017 and we will advance two of those in this episode.
The Latus Motors Racing Quicksilver Lubricants Team has begun 2017 much as they ended 2016. They are exceeding everyone's expectations, except perhaps their own, as they have the Bazaaz Superstock 1000 points lead and are beating some very good Superbike teams in the process. Bobby Fong appears to have brought his A Game in 2017 and we check in with him in this edition of the show.
Danny Walker has embarked on a new adventure in 2017 with a switch to the all new Honda CBR1000RR. Walker reduced expectations pre-season by discussing that this will be a development year for the team with the switch to Honda and the lack of parts availablity in the early season. They have great chemistry with Scott Jensen leading the charge in developing the new Honda big bore and their experienced rider Jake Gagne. COTA may not have produced the results they were hoping for but Walker is a proven winner and one of the most determine team owners in the sport. We look forward to checking in with DW pre-Atlanta!

Riding motorcycles is dangerous. Recent fatalities as well as life threatening and life changing injuries remind us all of this. Jumping from airplanes, climbing mountains, driving race cars and thousands of other human activities create risk factors that many of us are willing to accept.
Motorcycling is a juxtaposition. The joy of riding is in a special catagory that cannot be found doing almost anything else. Every person who rides or races motorcycles is also aware that it can take everything in an instant. At some level, every person who swings a leg over a motorcycle accepts the hazards in exchange for the outright joy riding provides.
The recent passing of Charlotte Kainz, Kyle McGrane, Jamison Minor and Zaden Florez has been a brutal reminder of the risks/reward ratio. Many of us have said goodbye to family members and friends who passed "doing what they loved to do". Fans nationwide have experienced the sadness of having witnessed a fatality at a live racing event.
How does a rider deal with the realities of racing? As a parent, should I encourage my children to persue their dreams of racing? What do we say to our 16 year old son or daughter who informs us over dinner that they want to obtain their motorcycle license and ride a motorcycle on the street? How do these losses affect the downed riders' fellow competitors going forward? From every standpoint the losses have impact whether you are a competitor, event promoter, a family member, a sanctioning body or a fan. While there may be more questions than answers, we push on in our quest for understanding.

For the third year in a row we end and begin our year with a one on one personal interview with the 2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden.
Nicky Hayden finished 5th in his first season as a full time World Superbike competitor. Following a 13 year career as a MotoGP rider who won the 2006 World Championship, Nicky chose to make the move to World Superbike with the single goal of ultimately winning the World Superbike Championship and becoming the only rider in history to win both World Championships. We will discuss the first season and get his thoughts in depth.
There will be time to discuss some individual races in this inauguaral first season and hear how close he came to acheiving his beginning of the year goals. 26 starts, 4 podiums and a win are the numbers but only tell part of the story. We get the rest.
With a new Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade to ride and a new teamate in German Stefan Bradl, we will probe his take on the 2017 season ahead and discover how he views the season ahead.

Bryan Smith is the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track Harley-Davidson GNC1 Presented by Vance & Hines National Champion and he joins us to answer many questions about the season and the event at Santa Rosa. We will hopefully get in in-depth look at the heart of a champion who managed to complete the turn four pass to close the deal. As this was a real victory for Kawasaki as well, we will talk about that aspect with Bryan and delve into how he sees 2017 working out for he and the team on the Indian FTR750.
Ricky Howerton, Jeff Gordon, Joe Esparza and the rest of the Crosley Howerton team brought their final iteration of the Kawasaki 650 twin to the show. This event and this championship are the culmination of three years work developing the ground breaking motorcycle. Ricky will share his thoughts on that plus the entire 2016 season. We also talk to Ricky about the new Indian FTR750 the team will field going forward.

We asked Glenn Stasky to join us on this show in an effort to learn more about aftermarket lighting for our motorcycles. The number one quote from automobile drivers after contact with a motorcycle is "I didn't see him". We discuss the benefits of truly standing out in traffic. Any number of hazards exist on the sides of the road and in the road to motorcyclist. Animals and people can walk right out in front of us at night as well as potholes in the road and a full range of items on the road that have fallen from trucks. Seeing these things early give us precious time to think and react. Great lighting can give us that time.
Glenn brings much technical information from a riders perspective that we believe is invaluable. Our goal was to avoid turning this into an infomercial and to make this show an educational tool for all of us who value excellent roadcraft. For BMW riders, we discussed how the Clearwater Lights systems interface simply and easily with CANbus.
Al Ludington, of V8R Performance in Daytona Beach, joined us to discuss the degree of difficulty in installing aftermarket lighting. In additiona to selling and installing Clearwater Lights, his shop converts Mazda Maita's from their standard 4 cylinder engines to V6 and V8 power. As it happened on the day we did this show, Al parted company with AMA Pro Racing rather unexpectedly. We discussed the temporary break in his career in professional motorcycle racing and what the future may hold for him.

Less than a week from now on September 25th at the Ramspur Winery Santa Rosa Mile presented by Triumph, Indian will return to AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National competition with their factory effort. They have tasked "Smokin' Joe Kopp with racing the all new FTR750 for the first time. We find out how that happened and how Joe feels about the motorcycle and his chance at history!

Wayne Rainey is joins us for an indepth sit down conversation about MotoAmerica after their second season. In the process he makes a very big announcement concerning their spec tire partner for 2017 and beyond.
We discussed their first year accomplishmets and moved into the things they have been able to do in their second year. Two big items on his agenda were discussed indepth. We also discussed the things that are on his to-do list going forward. With only the Yamaha Superbike Challenge of New Jersey remaining in year two of the new sanctioning body, it is an appropriate time to take a look back in the rear view mirrors and Wayne did that openly and honestly in our interview.
Few individuals could have brought more to the KRAVE partnership than Wayne Rainey for his chosen role with the series. Having been a two time champion in AMA Superbike and a three time champion in the 500cc World Championship Rainey understands the needs of the paddock. He also has his experience as a team owner in the World Championship to draw from.

Norman Frederick Nelson is a retired Delta pilot and Naval avaitor. He will need all of his navigating and riding skills to win the 2016 Motorcycle Cannonball riding his 1911 Reading Standard motorcycle named "Steady Freddie" Norm named the bike after his father, Fred, who recently passed at 105 years old. The Reading Standard is 105 years old. Norm's plan is to ride steady and smooth while navigating the difficult coast to coast route that is the 2016 Motorcycle Cannonball. He finished third in his first Cannonball, Second in his second attempt and hopes to win in his third attempt!
Cris Sommor Simmons is in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. She is an author, motorcycle journalist and motorcyclist. She is again competing in the Motorcycle Cannonball on her 1915 Harley-Davidson three speed. We look forward to a great conversation when she returns to the show!
Patrick Simmons is one of the lead vocalist and guitar players of the Doobie Brothers. He has written many of their biggest hits and number one classic hits. From the beginning of his musical career and success with the Doobie Brothers he has been a natural ambassador for motorcycling. Patrick is a lover of vintage motorcycles, especially Harley Davidsons and is about to compete in his third Cannonball on his 1915 Harley Davidson. We will discuss his 50 years with the Doobie Brothers who are still going strong. Mostly we will talk about riding vintage motorcycles.

In this edition of Talking Motorcycles with Barry Boone powered by Crosley Brands we go LIVE with all three podium finishers from the 2016 Springfield Mile II! Cory Texter parted company with Richie Morris Racing and fired up his privateer effort riding the Kawasaki Vulcan powered twin to a strong third place performance at Springfield. Strong right out of the hauler, Texter served notice early in Qualiying Practice that he was going to be a factor in this one! We get his thoughts fresh off the box at Springfield.
Bryan Smith rode his Crosley Howerton Kawasaki to the lead with a holeshot and let 24.7 miles of the 25 mile Harley Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance and Hines Main Event. He never put a wheel wrong and did what Smith does by running up front from the initial start leading every lap but the one that counted. Did he know what Coolbeth's plan was? Would he do anything different if the race was ran again today? His goal for 2016 was to win every mile. This is his second Mile runner up finish of the year. This race was critical for his AMA Pro Flat Track GNC1 Championship quest. Following the New York round he was protested by Jared Mees Racing and AMA Pro certified the protest to be justified causing Smith to loose all money and points from the round. Winning the event was Springfield Mile II was his plan and he came up a little short though Mees had a mechanical that created a 17th place finsih. Now all await the Appeals Board deciision that comes by Sept 13th.
Kenny Coolbeth rode the Zanottti Harley-Davidson XR750 flawlessly hounding Smith every lap at ever corner for the race. In turn three on the white flag lap he held the throtle open and charged up into the high groove to make the winning pass. We will discuss that pass and the race with the veteran Coolbeth who is always strong on the Miles on his XR-750!

With three rounds in the record books we go on the record with Michael Lock, the CEO of AMA Pro Racing. Round 3 from Circuit of the America's was a juxtaposition in many ways. International media loved what they saw and have already written extensively about the event. Many fans and some teams were not as pleased with track conditions they were presented with and issues with timing and scoring which caused delays in the program.
We are looking forward to bringing you the thoughts of the new CEO at this point in his history. Michael Lock never shys away from the tough questions and challenges the series faces and the opportunities the challenges present for improvement.

Michael Barnes has become the oldest winner in the 75 year history of the 75th Daytona 200! There were many fancy transporters and well funded teams in the event. Barnes arrived with his Yamaha in the back of a pickup truck and took home the lions share of the $175,000 purse and a new Rolex plus Yamaha contingency. His story is one we can't wait to hear!
Arthur Kowitz was a true privateer when he went up against the factory giants in AMA Superbike in the 80's. In the 75th Daytona 200 he became the oldest known rider to ever qualify/start and finish the 200! In between he has done many things on the racetrack but most notable is his influence in the electric motorcycle road racing sport! Art joins us with his story in this edition of Talking Motorcycles.
Kevin Elliott is the President of the American Sportbike Racing Association who conducted the Daytona 200 at the World Center of Racing. Our Third Annual "Night Before the Daytona 200 Show"
This show was LIVE from the Bahama Breeze across from Daytona International Speedway before a LIVE audience. Three generations of Daytona 200 winners joined us on this show. It was heard LIVE by tens of thousands of listeners on WNDB AM1150/FM93.5 who were in Daytona for the 75th Daytona Bike Week. Thousands more heard it around the world on the WNDB app. Without a doubt we made history in this epic "Night before the 200 Show".
5 time Daytona 200 winner, Mr Daytona, Scott Russell joined us and remained onboard for our Q & A with Danny Eslick and Dick Klamfoth.
Danny Eslick went on the record about being denied the opportunity to win his third consequetive Daytona 200. His comments were straight forward and insightful.
Dick Klamfoth won the 200 in 1949, 1951 and 1952 on the sands of Daytona Beach. His description of a lap on the beach was truly amazing.
Scott Russell asked great questions of Eslick and Klamfoth and told a story that you have likely never heard before about being arrested in 1997 on the night before he set pole and won the Daytona 200!
History was made as Barry Boone introduced Klamfoth and Russell. The joy was palpable as well as the respect between these two greast championship riders. Russell remained on board for to co-host the entire show.
There is no way to describe the convergence of history as three generations of Daytona 200 champions told their timeless stories.

The story of Bruce Rossmeyer is finally told. He made a name for himself in the motorcycle industry and the community where he lived and worked that lives on today. These ladies ride to every event on their own motorcycles and record many touring miles in doing so! They ride to their national Convention from the four corners of the USA!
Frances Lemen bought her first motorcycle in 1959 at 22 years old. It was a BMW airhead and she has put big miles on 4 of those! She still has a 1975 BMW R90/6 with 1973 Toaster Tank bodywork that has had three speedometers. The cool thing is she still owns it. Frances joins us LIVE to discuss her riding history, the historical importance, the present and the future of the Motor Maids and her involvement in it.
Lee Ann Stephenson calls us LIVE to give her account of how she became a motorcyclist, how she became involved in the Motor Maids and why she sees it as a vital link for women riders in America.

Geoff Bodine is a winner. He holds the distinction of being the winnest driver in Modified Stock Cars in history. He won the cup series race in Martinsville giving Hendrick Motorsports their first win. It came at a critical time for the upstart team. He is an International Race of Champions championship winner. Bodine also won the Busch Clash, the Winston Select and was the 1994 Busch Pole Award winner plus the 1986 Daytona 500!
Daytona was also the place where Geoff was involved in one of the most violent crashes in American stock car history. It happened in the Daytona 250 NASCAR Truck Series race February 18th, 2000. His thoughts on that will be compelling. We expect to hear things about Geoff Bodines life on and off the track that you have never heard before.
He is a participant in the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America and a long distance touring motorcyclist and he joins us for this special show!

Michael Lock is the newly named CEO of AMA Pro Racing. Lock was a strategic consultant to AMA Pro Flat Track in 2015 and as of November 1st he takes the handlbars.
Lock most recently served as COO of Automobili Lamborghini Americas, where he was responsible for developing the business and image of the famous Italian brand. Before joining Lamborghini, Lock spent nearly a decade at Ducati, including a key 8-year period as CEO of Ducati North America. Lock also held the position of CEO at TriumphMotorcycles USA where he established the United States subsidiary of the British marque in 1994.
With an extensive background in the automobile industry and motorcycle industry he brings a wealth of experience to the CEO position at a critical point in AMA Pro Flat Track history. Many challenges lie ahead and with those comes opportunity. We go inside the thoughts of the new CEO in an attempt to gain insight into his vision for the future of the sport. Many rules changes appear to be in the offing and promotors have been asked to step up their game. Brad "The Bullit" Baker wins the Superprestigio in an epic battle with Marc Marquez. The factory Harley-Davidson rider put his mad skills to work on the perfectly prepared Superprestigio surface and put on a text book clinic to show the world just how good he is. From the opening practice session he demonstrated complete control over the field. Baker joins us LIVE tonight to discuss his victory as well as the overall experience of representing the USA in Barcelona! We will also get his thoughts on the 2016 AMA Pro Grand National Flat Track season ahead. Daytona is just around the corner.
Jared Mees finished 3rd to give the USA two spots on the victory podium in Spain. Mees was recently crowned the 2015AMA Pro Grand National Champion in Las Vegas. Both of those results will be the focal point of our discussion with Mees. Jared and his wife, Nichole, recently announced that they were assuming the role of promoter at the Lima Half Mile National. We will discuss how that came about and what their plans are for the event going forward. The new Dunlop flat track specific tire was rolled out at DuQuoin in 2015. Mees rear tire was virtually worn out while the rest of the field had lots of rubber left. This created a controversy that continues even now. We get Jared's take on the topic.

Steve McLaughlin is in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. That induction could have been for a number of reasons. Steve joins us to discuss the 2015 AMA Pro Grand National Flat Track Season Finale in Vegas and the inaugural Superprestigio of the Americas.
As a third generation motorcycle rider/racer, Steve has been on all sides of the sport of motorcycle racing. He roared on the scene as a fast amateur and went on to be a multi time winner at Daytona International Speedway. One of the most memorable races had to be his victory in the first official AMA Superbike race at the World Center of Racing. That race was a race long duel with Reg Pridmore. McLaughlin was riding the underpowered but lightweight airhead BMW R90S Butler and Smith airhead.
His family history of creating motorcycle race events and series ultimately led to his creating World Superbike working closely with "Big" Bill France!
Considering his lifetime body of work and success in racing we are wondering how we will get through all the topics in just one show. For certain, we will discuss his interest in Grand National Flat Track as promoter of the Charlotte Motor Speedway round, Sacramento Mile and the Flat Track Finale and Superprestigio!

His prize 1958 Harley-Davidson Sportster has been his choice for two coast to coast rides to Alaska including all the way up the Alcan Highway. The interesting thing is those two trips were 25 years apart!
Norm has competed in two coast to coast Motorcycle Cannonball twice. In his first effort he finished third. His second try resulted in a second place finish. In 2016, Norm Nelson will compete in his third Motorcycle Cannonball. This time he will be riding a 1911 Reading Standard 500cc Single cylinder, single speed motorcycle that is little more than a bicycle frame with about 5 horsepower.
All motorcycle road racers would like to say they have won at the World Center of Racing, Daytona International Speedway. Norm Nelson has 7 wins at Daytona. Six of those victories were on a 1950 Norton Manx!

JD Beach is the newly crowned MotoAmerica Supersport Champion and he joins us LIVE! The versatile rider is a National Number AMA Pro Flat Track GNC1 flat track racer who just happens to be one of the best road racers in America as well. With eight wins in 2015, JD convincingly won the championship in a crowded field of fast competitors on great equipment. The Graves Motorsports Yamaha team gave him a great ride and he was on point all season!
Jake Gagne is the 2015 MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 class champion! Riding for Danny Walker's Roadrace Factory Yamaha team, he was the class of the field. What's in store for 2015? Europe? Many believe Jake is one of the most talented racers in the world. We have many questions and he will have answers!
Danny Walker came on the show pre-season and told us his goal was to win the Superstock 1000 championship with Jake Gagne on a Yamaha R1. We look forward to hearing Danny's valuable insight and his outlook for the road ahead. The team took on a major challenge with three riders on 600's in addition to Gagne.
Yve Assad has a beautiful vision. She "creates with light" every time she picks up a camera. She tours many miles per year on her vintage BMW airhead traveling the two lanes of America in search of images that captivate. The Stayin’ Safe experience combines the pleasures of motorcycle touring with real world, real-time advanced skillscoaching. Regardless of which tour you choose, our programs are similar in that they offer riders of nearly every motorcycle type a fun opportunity to enjoy some of the best riding roads and attractions in the country while also learning advanced visual strategies and techniques for smoother cornering and safer riding. With a target ratio of three or four participants to each tour leader/coach, we conduct our instructional tours primarily on mountain roads, in rural settings and smallish towns with limited riding on divided highways and in urban environments (although we do have custom programs available for this type of riding).
Using one-way radio communication, coaching commentary is provided during the tour in real-world riding situations. This approach enables riders to apply new visual strategies and to sharpen cornering and braking skills en route in real time. In addition to the real-time coaching, our tour leaders/coaches conduct “chalk talks”, creating a virtual classroom along the roadside. These breaks provide opportunities to illustrate concepts, discuss techniques and address any questions participants may have. Our training tours are not fast sport rides and all riding sessions begin slowly. When conditions permit, we do sometimes enjoy an “adult” pace. At times we will ride at the pace of the slowest rider, but never at a faster pace than each rider is comfortable with.

Keith McCarty joined Yamaha in 1977 and currently oversees the company's US racing operations. He will be inducted in theAMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in October.Yamaha's Keith McCarty will be inducted to the AMA Motorcycle Hall onOctober 17 in Orlando, Florida, as part of the 2015 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame induction ceremony held in conjunction with the annual AIMExpo at the Orange County Convention Center.
Keith McCarty's first job as a motorcycle mechanic was for US Suzuki in 1973 for rider Mike Runyard. In 1975-76, he wrenched for AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Tony DiStefano, winning two 250cc AMA National Motocross Championships. When the motocross schedule didn't conflict, he worked with the Hall of Fame duo of Erv Kanemoto and Gary Nixon in road racing.
In January, 1977, McCarty began his long career with Yamaha as the mechanic for AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Bob "Hurricane" Hannah. McCarty has remained in Yamaha's racing division ever since, working as mechanic, supervisor, department manager and, most recently, division manager for all of Yamaha's US racing activities.
Cameron Beaubier and Josh Hayes join us with stories and examples of who Keith McCarty is and how he has impacted their lives and their careers. They are but two talented riders of many that Keith has aided and assisted in their growth and personal development as professional motorcycle racers.

Shelina Moreda of Petaluma, California returned to road racing in America at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the TOBC racing team. She has just returned from racing the Suzuka 4 Hour Endurance race in Japan and now is back in the paddock racing with the MotoAmerica series in the USA. This mega talented rider has raced many types of motorcycles including the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series. She has done many things in road racing and we are excited to have Shelina on the show to catch up with this vibrant rider. She has joined Michelle Lindsay's TOBC racing team is planning to complete the balance of the 2015 season!
Michelle Lindsay should write a book about her life experiences. It has been an incredible year for her and the TOBC Racing Team. They began the year hoping to compete at Pikes Peak but the sponsorship deal collapsed and she continued to move forward. In an amazing turn of events, the TOBC team won the Daytona 200 to begin the year! The 200 winning motorcycle is now in the Barber Vintage Motorcycle Museum. The team is continueing to find success in MotoAmerica with Taylor Knapp and adding Shelina Moreda as a team rider is considered by many to be a great move. We look forward to a lively conversation with Michelle in this episode and will discuss her future plans for the team!

Bryan Fuller is a Master Builder, Designer, TV Personality and Author of how-to-build books through his own publishing company, Full-Bore Publishing. Bryan is the host of Velocity Channels' new show "Naked Speed".
In 2005, Bryan decided to set up his own shop and moved to downtown Atlanta, where his wife had family. Having been born in Jacksonville, Texas, Bryan stayed true to his roots, naming his first Atlanta based build the “Texas T”. That year, he competed and placed 4th place overall at the AMD World Championship of Bike Building for Freestyle. He then won the coveted GM Design Award in 2010 at The SEMA Car Show with the “Impaler” and the 2013 Birmingham World of Wheels Best in Show with a one-of-a-kind Cadillac hearse, named the “Thundertaker”. During this time, Bryan continued his TV career as host of "Two Guys Garage" and made several appearances designing and competing with his own designs on episodes of "Biker Build-off" and "Cafe Racer TV".
Bryan is the new host of "Naked Speed" on the Velocity Channel, a show dedicated to the design, build and ride of unique custom motorcycles. In the winter of 2014, Bryan released his second of a series of how-to-build books, “Full-Bore Welding” published by his own publishing company, Full-Bore Publishing. He also unveiled his most ambitious custom car to date at the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada; a 825 HP all-wheel drive 1932 custom Ford roadster called the “Double-Down” Deuce.

Paul kicked off his Endless Road Tour in September 2012 with nothing less than setting his first world record! He completed 100 Saddle Sore 1000's on 100 different motorcycles! That means 100 times he road 1000 miles in 24 hours on 100 different bikes. In addition he is an Iron Butt Competitor in the Ironbutt Rally with you top 10 finishes riding in the event where must complete 1000 miles per day for 11 consecutive days! It is "The World's Toughtest Motorcycle Competition".
In 2005 Paul was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system.He was told that a cure was a million miles away. So Paul set out to ride the million miles and bring it back!
He has delivered keynote speeches at the IBA Nationals, seminars at AMA VIntage Motorcycle Days, Americade and other events sharing his passion for long distance touring and his personal techniques for riding further than most think possible. Amanda Campbell has been around Hillclimbing her entire life. At the age of three she started racing in hillclimbs. She finished second in the amateur National Championships in the 125cc Class in 2002 and won the Women's Class in 2010. In 2009 she joined her husband in the AMA Pro Hillclimb Series in the Pro Sport Class on her CRF450. She became the first female to podium in the pro ranks with a second place finish her first race. Her career accomplishments were two second places in her first season and two third places in her second season. In 2012, she dedicated her efforts to the series by becoming involved in every aspect of the sport, from official duties to managing the Series and events to social media to marketing and to promoting the sport and the Series.
Vinny Nuzzolilli, out of Monson, Massachussetts, started racing 1998 at the age of 4. He joined the AMA Pro Hillclimb Series in 2010 at the age of 16. He has accomplished 21 top 3, including 8 career wins. He has won two Unlimited ClassNational Championships, in 2012 and 2014. He suffered a severe leg fracture in the next to last round in 2013 that put him out of contention for the Championship. As reigning Champion he looks to add to his resume of wins and podiums and go after a third Unlimited Class Championship in 2015. He competes in both the Xtreme Class and Unlimited Class on a CBR 636 and CBR 970 fueled by nitromethane.

Talking Motorcycles proudly presents another episode as a part of our AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Series.
David Aldana, 1999 Hall of Fame inductee, became famous early in his career for his "all or nothing" mentality as a professional motorcycle racer. He was a rookie expert in AMA Grand National competition in 1970. He went on to place 3rd in the Championship winning three Grand Nationals along the way. In total, David won 4 Grand Nationals in his flat track career. He competed in nearly every form of motorcycle racing including motocross and road racing. During his road racing career he was a factory rider for Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda. In 1981 he teamed up with Mike Baldwin to win the SUZUKA 8 HourEndurance Race in front of 10's of thousands of fans. Suzuka was at that time, one of the most prestigious road races in the world and the one race everyone wanted to win. Known for his black leathers with the white skeleton outline in the front, Aldana was and continues to be a fan favorite world wide.
Brian Slark, 2012 Hall of Fame inductee, was one of the people who gets credit for the creation of motocross in America. He was at one time the importer of the Rickman Metisse. Brian assisted Hall of Famer, Dave Mungenast in the creation of a vintage motorcycle museum in St. Louis. He then helped create the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds, Alabama. Today Barber is considered the premier vintage motorcycle museum in the world and Brian oversees the restoration work in their shop as Technical Director. If you have a Clymer Service Manual published from 1971 through 1984, the teardown work was likely performed by Brian Slark.
Both of the legendary men will be on hand at the 16th annual Riding Into History event this weekend!

World motorcycle traveler Clement Salvadori returns with another great road book. This time, he brings enthusiasts 30 stories covering 50 years of travel by motorcycle to odd spots around the planet. Readers can follow him through war-torn Vietnam to the sybaritic pleasures of camping out in a South African wilderness area, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, from 1957 to 2010.
While the motorcycle is always at the heart of these stories, far more important are Salvadori's impressions of the countries he rides through and the people he meets along the way. He artfully injects history, sociology, politics, and economics into the mix, and comes up with fresh and vivid descriptions of the many places he has been. Daytona Beach, FL (April 28, 2015) - Troy Bayliss won three World Superbike Championships on a Ducati. In 152 starts, the Australian had 94 podium finishes and 52 race victories. In 2006, as a substitute rider in place of the injured Sete Gibernau, he brought Ducati a MotoGP win at Valencia.
Retirement means different things to different people. For Bayliss it meant establishing Troy Bayliss Events and promoting a variety of major events including the wildly successful Troy Bayliss Classic in his home country. This year, over 8,000 people were treated to world class flat track racing featuring Grand National riders from the USA.
The 46-year-old Bayliss will be competing in five AMA Pro Flat Track Mile races in 2015 on the Lloyd Brothers Ducati and we look forward to hearing his thoughts in this special edition of Talking Motorcycles with Barry Boone.
Nathon Verdugo, Public Relations Manager at Ducati North America, will join us to explain the factories involvement and what it took behind the scenes to bring this together.

The bonus is that Patrick will be joined on the show by his wife Cris Sommer Simmons. She has been a major player in motorcycling for many years and recently released her third book on the subject. The Cannonball Diary documents her coast to coast ride in 2010 on a 1915 Harley-Davidson affectionately known as Effie. She is the recipient of numerous industry awards and honors and has encouraged women around the world to get out and ride. In addition to her 1915 H-D, Cris also owns several modern motorcycles.

Our 2nd Annual "Night before Daytona" radio show is being co-hosted by Dan Johnsen, formerly Director of Flat Track for AMA Pro Racing.
This show will feature 2 Grand National Championship winning riders who will be competing at Daytona Flat Track in 2015. Defending GNC Champion "the Jammer" Jared Mees and "Jersey" Jake Johnson will appear in this episode. They finished 1st and 3rd in GNC1 for the 2014 season and their insight into what it takes to win Daytona and the title should be of interest to us all.
In addition, we will introduce the new on-air personalities who will be covering Grand National Flat Track on FansChoice/TV and Public Address for the 2015 season. Scottie "Hollywood" Deubler will anchor their show, 7 time Grand National Chris Carr will be providing color commentary and Dani Medin will be working on the floor interviewing riders as well along pit road.

Terry Vance won 14 National Motorcycle Drag Racing Championships. Retiring as one of the sports all time most popular riders in 1988, Terry and engine builder Byron Hines then focused their talent and energy on growing Vance and Hines. We get an update on the state of the V & H union in this show.
Vance and Hines won two Daytona 200's and many championships in American Road Racing. Their eye for talented riders, organizational skills and mechanical expertise quickly proved that they were one of the top teams in road racing year after year.

The Roadrace Factory is entering the 2015 MotoAmerica season with new rider announcements and Danny Walker joins us to discuss the exciting rider lineup for the season ahead.
Jake Gagne will head up the teams efforts for 2015 aboard the all new Yamaha R1 in Superstock. Jake's training has ramped up in the off season as he prepares for his return to the Roadrace Factory.
Tomas Puerta (Columbia) brings high expectations for the RRF team in 2015 riding the R6 Yamaha in the Supersport Class. Puerta was the AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike Rookie of the Year.
Ben Young will be returning to the American road racing scene after a season abroad in the British Superbike Series competing in the 1000cc Superstock class. Young will be bringing with him the sponsorship of Tim Hortons.
Cameron Peterson, the South African 2013 Super600 Champion will be working to adapt to not only his new Roadrace Factory team but the race tracks utilized by MotoAmerica in 2015.
This four rider package will mean much adjustment for the Roadrace Factory team led by Danny Walker. We go inside the mind of one of the most talkative and dynamic team owners in the sport to get his thoughts on the season ahead. Organizing the team around this four rider lineup requires much energy, dedication and money. Talking Motorcycles welcomes Crosley Radio to our family of supporters. In the process of booking Bo Lemastus of Crosley on the program as a guest, we decided to join forces! Crosley has been in business since 1920. Most of their history is intertwined in American radio history and the fit feels perfectly natural to have them as part of this show.

Following a successful 9 year career as a pro racer with 9 National victories, Roland Sands picked up what he started as a teenager...creating custom motorcycle designs. His motorcycle designs and apparel line is an amazing combination of a simple classic old school designed around modern motorcycle technology. Roland has become a leading trendsetter among constructors and we talk to him about his roots as a builder, his career as a professional motorcycle road racer, his love of flat track and his involvement at the Del Mar "Short Track by the Beach" event in this edition of Talking Motorcycles with Barry Boone.
Brian Bell of IV League Flat Track joins us to inform of his vision of flat tracks future on the West Coast. He has ressurected some old school concepts in an attempt to establish Del Mar as a serious event. His career as a professional motorcycle road racer spanned 4 decades. With 71 National road race victories Rich Oliver is the third winningest rider in American history!
Rich is a 5 time AMA 250 National Champion. He is a WERA 250 Champion. In 1996 and 1997 he was undefeated with 20 wins straight!
Rich Oliver has been a Formula USA 500 cc National Champion and was a factory rider for Yamaha in Superbike and Supersport. His race experience includes Superbike, Supersport, Battle of the Twins, Formula USA and World Gran Prix 500 and 250!
In addition to all of that, Rich Oliver is a Two Stroke engine builder, compenent designer and fabricator as well as Race Team Manager, rider coash and trainer for up and coming riders. His Rich Oliver's Mystery School recently completed it's 15th season!
His work as color analyst for SPEED as well as Sonoma Raceway and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has earned him the respect of fans worldwide.

Bill Gately, owner of the Bonneville Performance team is on a mission to bring the Triumph brand to the forefront in the chase for the Grand National championship in the GNC1 (formerly Expert) class. The big twin Triumph has had much success in the colorful history of Grand National Championship flat track racing. Gately has a plan for making modern era history with the British marque.
Tonight on Talking Motorcycles with Barry Boone, Gately reveals who will twist the throttle for the team in 2015. We go inside the details behind his plans for '15 and how he arrived at his decision to bring this rider on board.

The Hart Racing Team has assembled a talented group of individuals for the 2015 AMA Pro Grand National Championship season and you hear it here first!
James Hart, flat track team owner will again be joined this season by Dan Thompson of Hot-ShotMotorworks. Thompson has been designing and developing the Kawasaki twin utilizing state a state of the art dyno and now creating software specific to that powerplant. He has been building flat track powerplants since 1977. He and James Hart have worked together since 2013 and feel they have the package to deliver a championship winning motorcycle to their two new riders for 2015.
Hank Scott won of 17 Grand National Main Events is a Dirt Track and AMA Hall of Fame member. In the 70's and 80's, Scott won on mile, half mile and short tracks. He has come on board the team as rider coach and trainer for both of the teams riders for 2015.
Briar Bauman has an impressive resume. As an amateur he won the coveted AMA Horizon Award, won three main events in his first season competing in GNC 2 and was awarded Saddlemen Seats Rookie of the Year honors in his first season in GNC 1 in 2012. Following two seasons with the Werner-Springsteen team, Bauman has signed with Hart Racing in 2015. In this episode we discuss his expectations for himself in 2015 and how he plans to acheive them.
Jake Johnson was a man close to retirement at the end of 2013. Riding for the Lloyd Brothers Ramspur Winery team in 2014 he was a title contender through the final race of the season. We discuss this turn around and what it means to be signed with Hart Racing for 2015. Is this the year Johnson wins his 3rd Grand National GNC 1 Championship?
Following a most successful but brief career in professional road racing in America, The Rocket Rispoli made the move overseas to compete in the British Supersport Championship taking multiple American Championships with him. His resume is impressive in both AMA Pro Flat Track and AMA Pro Road Racing. James is the only competitor to win the Supersport East, West and National Champinship as well as the coveted Young Gun award.
Following his 9th place finish for 2014 in the British Supersport Championship he has re-signed with Team Traction Control for 2015 to compete again in British Supersport. He will contest the full season aboard a Yamaha.
We discuss his experience in flat track and road racing in America as an amateur as well as a pro. In this epside we will discuss many topics including his thoughts on road racing in Great Britain vs America, the benefits of flat track, sponsorships and his outlook for 2015. Now that he has ridden all the tracks on the tour, is he ready to win a championship?

David McGrath - AMA Pro Road Racing's former Senior Director of Competition joins us tonight for a revealing episode!
Daytona Beach, FL (November 05, 2014) - David McGrath has a broad background in the sport of motorcycle road racing in America. Prior to coming on board with AMA Pro Racing as the road race director and later as the SeniorDirector of Competition, McGrath accomplished much. He was a rider/racer for a number of years before hanging up his leathers in 1999 and then used his experience to help others. He spent time at Vance and Hines as director of R & D, worked with Dunlop in tire development and also served eight years with American Honda in R & D development as well as Crew Chief.
Coming on board at AMA Pro in 2010 just two weeks before the Daytona 200 was a big undertaking that ultimately led to him becoming the Senior Director of Competition.
Now that AMA Pro Racing no longer sanctions road racing, McGrath, along with several other key staff, has been released from his position from the road racing side.
McGrath will discuss the past, present and future of road racing in America from his unique vantage point. We look at the various decisions made along the way that were both good and bad for the sport that he loves.

Bruce Brown's legendary On Any Sunday was an instant hit and quickly became an iconic film about motorcycles and motorcycle racing and more importantly the people who ride them. On Any Sunday is etched into the fabric of our lives without question.
Now...Dana Brown, son of Bruce, is set to release On Any Sunday...The Next Chapter on November 7th. The screening was an overwhelming success by all accounts and anticipation runs high as the release date draws ever closer. We go behind the lens with Dana Brown and will learn much about his vision for the new film as well as the future of motorcycling from his perspective. Dana has lived the movie life and the motorcycling life and brings to bear all that experience in this soon to be released film.
Dana has teamed up with some amazing people in this epic film and we will discuss those who have made the movie possible.

Mert Lawwill won the 1969 Grand National Championship. In 1970 Bruce Brown produced On Any Sunday featuring Mert's bid to repeat the feat. Did Mert know he was to be the star of that epic motorcycle film? He tells us all about that in this episode. On Any Sunday made Mert and a host of other flat track riders household name amongst motorcyclist and a wider audience as well.
When Mert moved from Idaho to California to race motorcycles, little did he know how it would shape and mold his future. Racing at the Agajanian produced events at Ascot Park taught the man much about many aspects of racing. He discovered that many of the competitors were modifying frames so Mert began the process of frame modifications that ultimately led to him being not only in the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame but the Mountainbike Hall of Fame as well. His bicycle suspension has won a World Championship! Is Mert the father of the Mountain Bike?
Winning the Grand National Championship and being in both of those Hall of Fames would be enough for most people but not Mert. We will discuss his contribution to mankind with the creation of Mert's Hands. The prosthetic hands and the soon to be released prosthetic arms will perhaps be the primary thing he will be remembered for.

The heavy hitters of flat track join us tonight on Talking Motorcycles!
The 2014 AMA Pro Grand National Championship has arrived at it's final date for the season. The Pomona Flat Track Finals is at hand and the chase for the championship comes down to three riders. Two of the heavy hitters in Grand National competition are on the show tonight!
Jared Mees has a 13 point lead coming into the final round. His Rogers Racing HD has performed beautifully all season long and Jared is riding at the top of his game. He will join us in this episode to discuss his strategy and plan to capture the title.
Bryan Smith is in a slight deficit coming into the final round. But for an untimely oil leak on his Crosley Radio Villa Esparza Kawasaki at Calistoga he may certainly have the point lead for this weekend. Missing the Dash for Cash at Calistoga also took a bite out of his championship plans. We discuss his thoughts on the Pomona track, his Kawasaki as well as the competition he faces in this final round of competition.
Gene Romeo, like so many others, followed the trail from Ascot to the Grand National Championship and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Fittingly chosen as the Grand Marshal for this weekends Flat Track Finals at Pomona, we discuss his history in the sport and his take on the race this weekend.

The 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball is in the record books! Buzz Kanter of American Iron Magazine will join us to with the the story of their adventures. Norm Nelson, rider for Cannonball Team 23 had a brilliant ride and finished the epic 4000 mile journey from Daytona Beach to Tacoma, Washington with a perfect score. They will be credited with second place out of a field of 100 riders but that definitely does not tell the entire story. Norm will give us his perspective on the thrill of near victory and the agony of defeat. The 1926 BMW needed every bit of its 12 horsepower considering the big headwinds out West and the climb over the Rocky Mountains. Fate definitely played a role in the outcome for Team 23. Hear all about it as Norm shares his feelings and philosophies on this years event!

Last week on Talking Motorcycles we discussed the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball just one day prior to it kicking off at the Daytona Beach Resort. 97 riders on their pre1937 vintage machines began their 4,000 mile journeys to Tacoma, Washington last Friday morning. Buzz Kanter of American Iron Magazine will be calling in to provide an update on their efforts in this years event. Norm Nelson is one of the best. He once rode his 1958 Harley-Davidson Sportster from Jacksonville, Florida to Alaska. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of that ride he did it again riding from St. Augustine, Florida to Alaska at 70 years old. He has won the vintage race at Datyona International Speedway 6 times on a Norton Manx. When the Historic Motorcycle Society chose Norm to ride in the event last year he nearly won it. In 2014, Norm and Team 23 are set to do it again hoping for a win. Norm will join us on this episode to discuss the ride just two days before they depart!
Buzz Kanter, Publisher/Editor in Chief of American Iron Magazine will be competing in the Motorcycle Cannoball for the third time. This will be my third ride across the US on a motorcycle much older than I am. Rode a 1915 Harley twin on the first Motorcycle Cannonball in 2010, a 1929 Harley JDH on the second one in 2012, and will be riding a 1936 VLH this time. Interesting mixture of excitement, anxiety and anticipation right now.
Buzz Kanter and Norm Nelson typify the spirit of the Motorcycle Cannonball. Both are excellent motorcyclists who will tell their stories as to why they ride in this grueling yet rewarding event that covers 4000 miles of American roads from coast to coast.

The young lions of the 2014 AMA Pro Supersport season roar in to Talking Motorcycles in this episode!
Kaleb De Keyrel is on a mission. Following a 14th and 12th place finish at Daytona to start his season the youngster from Minnesotta has not been out of the top 5 and has earned two podiums with third place finishes in the last round at Barber Motorsports Park. Currently 5th in points in his second full season in Supersport, the early talk about his tremendous talent appears to be rooted in fact as the season progresses. We will get to know this young man better during this episode!
Dustin Dominguez is having a solid year in Supersport. He recorded his first win of the season in Race 2 at Barber. He finds himself tucked in in third place in the championship battle as Alexander and Gillim remained tied for the series points lead. Dustin is only 12 points out of that battle. What will be his focus and game plan going forward in the highly competitive 2014 AMA Pro Supersport?
Hayden Gillim finds himself in the best position of his road racing career. Gillim has earned two wins and has been on the podium in every race except Race 2 at Daytona where he had to settle for 6th. Tied for the series points lead with Corey Alexander who has proven to be a formidable competitor, Hayden has a plan for the balance of the season and we will see exactly what that is in this episode. We will discuss with him the prospect of riding a 1000cc machine this coming weekend!

What makes a man jump two running helicopters on a 375lb Harley-Davidson XR750 dirt track racer? Why does a man perform wheelies on a motorcycle with no front wheel?
Bubble Blackwell is "The American Daredevil" of the old school variety in the modern era. Bubba saw Evil Knievel for the first time when he was 8 years old. The fire was lit. As an adult, the man has jumped buses, cars, semi-trucks, helicopters and more on his stars and stripes Harley in America, Japan and Mexico.
50,000 people watched Bubba jump 20 automobiles and take the World Record away from Evil Knievel.He jumped 14 buses in front of 17,000 people in Nashville, Tennessee. When Jay Leno contacted Bubba about doing a stunt on live TV via the Tonight Show, Bubba said yes. On October 22, 1989 Bubba Blackwell did that show and established yet another record by jumping 14 semi-trucks on NBC
In Vegas, Bubba jumped 15 tour buses with his XR and became the only daredevil to break all of Evil Kneivels records on the same type of motorcycle using the same size ramps. Amazing. Hear his story tonight on this epic episode of Talking Motorcycles.

On May 3, 1914, Erwin (Cannonball) Baker of Indianapolis, Indiana rode a 1914 Indian 7 horsepower motorcycle from San Diego, California to New York City. He did that ride in only 11 1/2 days breaking the previous record and earning the name Cannon Ball from a New York journalist who was obviously impressed with the record ride. The name was to remain a part of Erwin Baker for the rest of his life through today.
The Cannon Ball Project retraced the route taken by Baker in 1914. Don Emde utilized the actual written notes of Baker’s to recreate, as close as possible the original adventure. The Daytona 200 winner, who by the way is part of the only Father/Son team to ever win the historic 200, invited close friends to join him on the great adventure.
Tonight on Talking Motorcycles, Emde and Tom Seymour of Saddlemen Seats, Saddlebags and Luggage will reveal inside information about the ride, what inspired them and how it felt to complete the retracing of one of the most famous cross America rides in the history of our country.
