The sermon on Psalm 15 addresses who can dwell in God's holy presence, emphasizing the need for a righteous and blameless life. It explains the Old Testament context of God's holiness and lists characteristics of a holy person, such as integrity and truthfulness.
In today's sermon, Pastor Ross introduced the new series "Heart of Worship," which explores worship through the Psalms. He explained that worship is about expressing deep devotion and adoration for God, not just through singing but with our whole lives. Using Psalm 27, he highlighted five facets of worship: seeking God's protection, offering praise, praying, desiring God's presence, and following God's path.
The sermon addresses human tendencies to panic and excessively prepare during uncertain times, using historical examples like the Great Depression and COVID-19. Drawing from James 5:7-12, it emphasizes that Christians should wait with active patience, like a farmer, rather than with passivity or grumbling. Believers are encouraged to trust in God's judgment and timing, allowing their faith to foster patience, compassion, and hope.
The sermon, part of the "Faith in Action" series from the book of James, emphasizes that faith in Jesus should influence every aspect of our lives, not just be a one-time acceptance of His sacrifice and resurrection. It calls believers to let Jesus' presence transform their relationships, decision-making, and finances. In relationships, avoid slander and judgment, showing Christ’s compassion instead.
Today's sermon emphasizes that true faith should impact every part of our lives. It contrasts the destructive nature of worldly wisdom, characterized by selfish ambition and bitter envy, with the pure and peace-loving wisdom from heaven. Focusing on James 4:1-10, the sermon explains how selfishness causes internal, external, and spiritual conflict, described as spiritual adultery against God. James calls for submission to God, which brings internal nearness, external peace, and spiritual humility.
This morning's sermon continues the "Faith in Action" series, focusing on James 3:13-18. It contrasts two types of wisdom: the worldly, marked by bitter envy and selfish ambition, and the heavenly, characterized by purity, peace, and mercy. The sermon emphasizes that true wisdom is not just intellectual but demonstrated through humble and godly actions. When off the right path, believers are encouraged to seek God's wisdom, which is accessible through a relationship with Jesus. By relying on Jesus, we can transform our lives from worldly folly to divine wisdom.
Pastor Ross spoke today on how a genuine faith transforms how we live each and every day. He walks us through three main points of how genuine faith transforms who we are and questions us to look inside to see how our faith has transformed us.
Pastor Marty spoke to how favoritism is inconsistent with our faith in Jesus. He speaks on James 2:1-13 showing the command James gives us to show no favoritism as all are equal in God's eyes. He then gives us four different ways to apply this to our lives.
Pure religion, the sermon argues, involves two main things: listening intently to God's word and living it out obediently and intentionally. It emphasizes the importance of actively engaging with God's word and allowing it to transform behavior, leading to a life that reflects Christ's teachings and character.
Pastor Ross's sermon today focuses on the idea that while trials often bring temptations, God isn't the source of these temptations. Drawing from James 1:13–18, he emphasizes that temptations originate from our own desires. However, by anchoring ourselves in God's truth and remembering His unchanging nature and love demonstrated through Jesus Christ, we can overcome temptation and endure trials with love and obedience to God.
Pastor Marty introduces the new series on the book of James, emphasizing James' background and his aim to challenge believers to integrate faith into every aspect of their lives. He focuses on James 1:2-12, which urges believers to find joy in trials because they produce perseverance, maturity, wisdom, perspective, and ultimately lead to rewards in eternity.
Today we dive into our final sermon in our series. Pastor Ross brings us into the intimate moments surrounding Lazarus' resurrection, inviting us to ponder our own relationship with Jesus. The message resonates deeply as it unveils Jesus' declaration of being the resurrection and the life, offering not just a future hope but a transformative present reality. As the sermon draws to a close, Pastor Ross extends a heartfelt invitation for each listener to consider where they stand in our belief in Jesus.
Jesus, walking with his disciples, describes himself as the true vine and God as the gardener, with his followers as the branches. He stresses that their main task is to abide in him. Abiding means finding identity, growing in communion, and obeying his commands. It's about recognizing dependency on him for life and purpose.
In the midst of uncertainty and chaos, Jesus offers peace, promise, and comfort to his disciples. He assures them of his identity as God in the flesh, promising them a place prepared in heaven. Jesus emphasizes that he alone is the way to God the Father, the embodiment of truth, and the source of eternal life.
Emphasizing the qualities of a Good Shepherd – guiding, protecting, nurturing, and sacrificing for the sheep – the sermon calls on us to recognize and follow Jesus as their true Shepherd. We are encouraged to respond to Jesus' call, submit to his authority, recognize his voice, and follow him as their caring and sacrificing Shepherd.
Todays sermon delves into John 10:1-10, where Jesus uses a shepherd and gate metaphor. Initially, the religious leaders don't grasp the analogy, prompting Jesus to clarify that he is the gate for the sheep. The sermon unfolds in two parts: Jesus as the Door of Protection and the Door of Opportunity.
This week focused on Jesus as the "LIGHT" of the world, referencing John 1:1–5 and John 8:12. The sermon highlighted Jesus as the eternal light that brings life and encouraged followers to seek truth in Him, trust Him for everlasting life, and live boldly by shining their light to others.
Jude urges believers to contend for the faith by being vigilant against false teachings, staying prepared through discipleship and prayer, and actively engaging in a mission of mercy towards others. The sermon emphasizes the importance of maintaining faith, living in anticipation of God's mercy, and extending that mercy to those who doubt or oppose.
In this sermon, Pastor Ross emphasizes warning signs highlighted in Jude 1-16. He warns against ungodly influences and false teachers abusing God's grace, denying Jesus as Lord, and living fruitless, rebellious lives. The call to action is to turn to Jesus, repent, obey, and surrender.
During this weeks sermon Pastor Ross talks about the value of serving in the Church. We get the opportunity to hear from multiple leaders in the Church about their area of ministry and the different opportunities for us to serve.
The sermon centers on serving on a mission for Jesus, referencing the Great Commission and 1 Peter 4:7–11. It emphasizes urgency, prayer, and the call to love deeply, practice hospitality, and serve faithfully. The goal is to reach many for Jesus, aligning with the church's commitment to serve the local body, community, and the world.
Pastor Ross emphasizes the church's mission to connect people with God and stresses the importance of growing with others in Christ, drawing from Acts 2:42–47. The key principles include full devotion, radical generosity, constant togetherness, and daily evangelism. Believers are encouraged to embrace these principles for community growth through opportunities like Life Groups.
The sermon initiates a series on Hope's mission, focusing on connecting people with God. Drawing from Ephesians 2:13–18, Pastor Ross underscores Christ's role in reconciling and unifying believers, breaking down religious and cultural barriers. The sermon emphasizes Christ as peace, unity, and access to God. The congregation is encouraged to engage in worship, rooted in the Word, faithful in prayer, and seeking Christ in communal worship
In this sermon, we explore the distinct images of Jesus portrayed in the four Gospels, emphasizing Luke's perspective on Christmas and Jesus' mission. Luke, a physician and companion of Paul, meticulously presents Jesus as both fully human and fully God. We dive into key verses, such as Luke 19:10, where Jesus declares his mission to "seek and to save what was lost."
In this sermon Pastor Mark takes us through the gospel of Mark and we see how Jesus is a God who serves. Jesus came as a servant to save us and we need to reflect to see how we can allow Jusus to serve through us.
In this sermon, the focus is on the upcoming Christmas season and the celebration of Jesus as the Savior. The sermon introduces a series called "Pictures of Jesus," emphasizing the unique portraits of Jesus presented in the gospels. The sermon explores the book of Matthew, highlighting two aspects of Jesus as King: the King who Reigns Forever and the King who Saves.
In this sermon the focus is on the concluding portion of the Lord's Prayer from Matthew 6. Pastor Ross highlights the significance of seeking God's protection and deliverance from temptation and the influence of the evil one. The sermon emphasizes two key ways in which the Lord leads believers away from temptation: first, through the process of renewal in Christ, and second, through the support and encouragement of the body of Christ.
In this sermon, Pastor Ross discusses the theme of daily dependence on Jesus. The sermon emphasizes the importance of constant connection to Christ, being pruned by God, and being rooted in the Bible as essential elements of true dependence. The sermon highlights the significance of producing spiritual fruit, referencing Galatians 5:22-23, and emphasizes that true dependence on God leads to a transformed prayer life.
This sermon delves into the importance of genuine confession, focusing on the specific portion of the Lord's Prayer: "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." Pastor Marty explores the concept of confession by referencing Psalm 51, a thorough and genuine confession by David after moral failures. He outlines the seven ingredients to a genuine confession.
In this sermon Pastor Mark describes the act of surrendering to the Lord. He reads through Phillippians 2:5-11 to show how God comes before all and every knee will bow to Him. We need to acknowledge who God is and who we are not and relinquish the control that we strive to have. Pastor Mark encourages us to surrender all to Him as surrendering is a natural response to something greater.
In this sermon, Pastor Ross begins by emphasizing the importance of starting prayers with adoration, revering God for who He is and what He has done. He references the Lord's Prayer, which Jesus used to teach the pattern of prayer. He delves into Psalm 145 written by David, highlighting attributes of God, such as His greatness, grace, compassion, goodness, trustworthiness, and righteousness. He also emphasizes the importance of looking back on God's provision, recognizing that God constantly moves in generations, and encourages the congregation to participate in responding to God's work. Pastor Ross reminds the audience that through adoption in Christ, they can address God as "heavenly Father" and proclaim His good works in their lives.
In this sermon titled "Amen," Pastor Ross, discusses the importance of prayer and how to pray effectively. The sermon emphasizes that prayer is personal communication with God and a vital aspect of a Christian's life. The main focus is on Matthew 6:9-13, where Jesus provides a model for prayer. The five key aspects of this model are: Adoration (showing deep love and respect for God), Submission (surrendering to God's will), Dependence (relying on God for all needs), Confession (admitting sins to God), and Protection (seeking God's guidance and intervention). Pastor Ross encourages the congregation to incorporate these elements into their prayers and to set aside specific times during the day for prayer.
In Pastor Ross's sermon on Matthew 6:19-34, the central message revolves around the significance of undivided allegiance to God's Kingdom. He emphasizes the need to prioritize seeking God's rule, living obediently, and demonstrating generosity in our lives, ultimately treasuring God above all else. The sermon highlights the contrast between healthy eyes, which represent a generous and God-centered approach to wealth, and unhealthy eyes, characterized by greed and materialism. It underscores that one cannot serve both God and money, calling for wholehearted devotion to God. Additionally, the sermon encourages trust in God's provision and emphasizes that worry and anxiety are unnecessary, as God will care for our needs just as He does for the birds and flowers.
In this sermon by Pastor Ross, the focus is on understanding that living for Christ goes beyond mere actions; it's a reflection of a heart surrendered to Him. Pastor Ross begins by emphasizing the importance of the heart as the first domino in our spiritual journey, where everything else falls into place when our hearts are loyal to Jesus. He discusses topics like adultery and lust, highlighting Jesus' teaching that even lusting in one's heart is a form of adultery. The sermon also touches on divorce, emphasizing the sanctity of marriage and discouraging divorce except in cases of sexual immorality. Jesus addresses the issue of taking oaths, encouraging honesty and integrity in our words without the need for excessive oaths. The sermon further explores the idea of not seeking revenge but responding to hatefulness with love, even towards enemies. The overarching message is that true righteousness begins in the heart and is manifested through our actions, aligning with the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.
In this sermon by Pastor Ross, titled "The Righteous Way" and based on Matthew 5:17-30, Jesus is depicted as teaching about two kingdoms: God's Kingdom and the Kingdom of the world. He emphasizes that followers of Jesus, while living in the world, should understand that they are not of the world and must obey His commands and rules. The main passage highlights Jesus' intention to fulfill the Law and the Prophets, emphasizing the importance of obeying and teaching God's commands. Jesus contrasts His teachings with those of the Pharisees, emphasizing that true righteousness surpasses outward appearances and extends to the heart. He provides examples of how anger and lust in the heart are equivalent to murder and adultery, highlighting the need for reconciliation and guarding against sinful desires. The sermon encourages listeners to live in obedience to Christ with both their actions and their hearts.
Pastor Ross delivers a sermon based on Matthew 5:13-16, focusing on the concepts of being salt and light in the world as followers of Jesus. He begins by emphasizing the importance of maintaining purity and not compromising one's faith, drawing parallels to the properties of salt in preserving and flavoring. Pastor Ross highlights that our influence and impact on the world are essential, and compromising our faith can lead to losing our "saltiness." He also explores the idea of being the light of the world, emphasizing that our good deeds should shine for others to see and ultimately glorify God the Father. The overarching message is that as Christians, we are called to have a positive influence and bring glory to God through our actions and faithfulness to Christ's teachings.
The characteristics, known as the Beatitudes, reflect a transformed and spiritually rich life marked by qualities like humility, meekness, righteousness, mercy, purity, and peacemaking. The sermon underscores that these traits aren't a transactional list. If you go do these things I will bless you - Rather these qualities or characteristics are true of the blessed, If you have experienced the grace of God these will be true of you. The ultimate model of these traits is Jesus himself, who embodied them perfectly and suffered to grant his followers these blessings. Jesus introduces the concept of these "Upside Down Kingdom" to his disciples, challenging cultural norms.
Pastor Mark's sermon centers on Matthew 5:1-2, 7:28-29, and 6:5-15, introducing the new Sermon on the Mount sermon series. The passages mark the start of Jesus' ministry and the unveiling of His Kingdom's principles. The sermon emphasizes that the Sermon on the Mount outlines the blueprint for living as Kingdom Citizens, challenging established norms and presenting an "upside-down kingdom." Pastor Mark underscores submission to Jesus as King, illustrated by the Lord's Prayer as an allegiance oath.

In Pastor Mark's sermon on faithfulness, he delved into the meaning of faith and the importance of embodying this fruit of the Spirit. Drawing from Hebrews 11 and other biblical examples, he highlighted the flawed yet faithful individuals throughout history, culminating in Jesus as the perfect example of faithfulness. Pastor Mark emphasized that God's faithfulness to us should inspire our response of obedience, not out of our own efforts but through surrender to Him. He reminded the congregation that the fruit of the Spirit is produced in us as we walk in step with God, showing faithfulness through our obedience to His Word. By taking simple steps of love, forgiveness, and selflessness, we can reflect God's faithfulness and make a positive impact on those around us. The sermon concluded with an exhortation to draw near to God and encourage one another in the journey of faith, knowing that He who promised is faithful.

He concludes by sharing the story of Horatio Spafford, who found peace in God despite experiencing immense loss and tragedy, reminding listeners that Jesus sacrificed His own peace so that we could find true peace.

It is a section of Paul's letter to the Corinthians, in which he is addressing the issue of the resurrection of Christ and its importance to the Christian faith. In the passage, Paul reminds the Corinthians of the gospel he preached to them, which they received and on which they stand. He emphasizes that this gospel is of the utmost importance and that the Corinthians should hold fast to it.Paul then goes on to remind the Corinthians of the key elements of the gospel: Christ died for our sins, he was buried, and he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. Paul also notes that Christ appeared to Peter, then to the twelve, and then to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at once, before appearing to James, all the apostles, and finally to Paul himself.Overall, this passage is a reminder of the centrality of the resurrection of Christ to the Christian faith and a call to the Corinthians to hold fast to the gospel message that they received.

When we are faced with a challenge or crisis, it's hard to remain calm and not panic. It is during these times that we must make an emotional decision to show faith and not to revert to our old ways.
Sometimes it's in the "smaller" sins where we fail to show grace and mercy. How can we be more aware of our response to friends, co-workers, strangers, etc. when they sin against us in our daily life? Especially knowing the high cost that was paid for EVERY ONE of our sins to be forgiven.

Part 2: A Grace Awakening https://rockfordres.org/media/sermons/the-prodigal-son-part-2
Part 3: The Challenge of Grace https://rockfordres.org/media/sermons/the-challenge-of-grace
Psalm 88 is one of the darkest of all the Psalms. Heman, the author, is calling God out and not sparing his words. He is angry, he is upset, he is confused, but most of all, he is deeply discouraged because God is silent. It is challenging to find some redeeming lessons from this Psalm, but if we examine it closely, we will learn about ourselves and God.
In Psalm 77, the Psalmist is confused by God. He begins wondering if God has changed, and then he comes to a point of decision to look at the past good deeds and God. When he changes his perspective, his whole view of God and life changes also. He begins to meditate on the goodness and faithfulness of God.
The Psalmist shows us that even when life gets hard, we can be assured that God loves us. He uses the phrase, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever” over and over within Psalm 107.
The Psalmist is struggling with the wicked prospering and bad things happening to good people. What is God’s plan? How can He allow this to happen? Why should I live a Godly life? These are some of the questions he wrestles with as we often do.
When life gets hard, it’s easy to begin to question God, or even the reason for life. Such is the case for Psalm 39, a Psalm of David. We will learn from David how to process our feelings in a healthy way.
In Psalm 102, the writer is overwhelmed with life; physically, emotionally and relationally. He cries out to God and in the process, he begins to reflect on the power, eternality and love of God.
David was one of the greatest kings in Israel. But, in Psalm 3, we see him running from his son, Absalom, who has usurped the throne. David cries out to God for help and protection. We see David process his thoughts and find a new encouragement as he encounters God’s presence.
Would you say you have an optimistic or pessimistic view of our world? Why do you think you lean one way or the other?
Who was the most encouraging person in your life? How did they encourage you? Can you share a moment or event where they impacted you life in a positive way?
If you could pick one household chore that you would never have to do or worry about ever again, what would it be and why?
In Jesus’ day, the Scribes were experts in the law and taught others to understand them. So in Luke 10:26 when Jesus turned his question back on him the scribe easily answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”
If you had a limitless supply of money, what are the top three things that you would do?
As you think about how you worry, are there times when you’ve moved from proactive concern to unhealthy anxiety?
To the best of your ability, recall what your initial interaction (that you can remember) with church was like. What was your impression?
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have reached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. – 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness? Would someone close to you agree?
Idolatry Leads to Enslavement...Please Read Judges 10:6-16 Every time Israel worshiped the idols of a nation, that nation ended up oppressing them. Aram [North-West), Sidon [North], Ammon and Moab [East], and the Philistines [South]. God dealt with their idolatry by selling them into the hands of their enemies. [10:7]
We see that the Israelites are sorry for the consequences of their sin, but they are not really sorry for the sin. They finally relent so God raised up a deliverer—judge. His name is Jephthah.
How did you celebrate the Christmas holiday when you were a kid? What are some of the things you have brought over to your family holiday tradition?
Have you ever been caught in a lie? Did you come clean or did you try to continue the lie? Did you get caught?
“It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.” — Hebrews 11:17–19
Q In the story of Esther, King Xerxes had a bit of an anger problem. When was the last time you got really angry? How did things turn out?
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. – 2 Timothy 1:7-8
“The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.” — Genesis 12:1-4
God told Gideon that he was going to accomplish the unthinkable feat of rescuing Israel from Midian. When was the last time you were faced with an “impossible” task that ended up being accomplished?
The Bible tells us that the rainbow was given to mankind as a promise from God. When was the last time you saw a rainbow? Describe it.
Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures.” — Genesis 9:12-15
Have you ever been in a dangerous situation when you feared for your life? How did you survive?
“It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.” — Hebrews 11:5
